"Dean, what are you doing here?" Sam asked as he did his best to focus on his brother despite the searing pain in his head and the poisonous commentary that Lucifer was whispering in his ear.
"Oh good, Dean's here, now the party can get started," Lucifer stated in a tone that made it clear that Dean was the last person he wanted to see.
"Sammy, what happened?" Dean asked.
"Sam had a little too much to drink and he fell. I think he hit his nose on the side of the table," Cas lied.
"Sam never could hold his liquor," Dean said and then chuckled.
Dean's laugh made Sam homesick as he realized how much he had missed his brother.
"Don't go getting all sentimental on me, your brother has never been good enough for you Sammy, but he is necessary for now," Lucifer whispered, letting his tongue lick the insides of his ear.
Sam instinctively swatted at his ear which made Dean laugh even harder.
"Are you hallucinating bro? Must have been one hell of a party that I missed," Dean stated.
"Something like that," Sam said as he did his best to smile. The last thing that he wanted was for Dean to worry. "It's good to see you bro, but what are you doing here?"
"Dad's missing," Dean whispered as his smile faded.
"So, he'll turn up just like he always does," Sam stated.
"No, dad was on a hunting trip and I haven't heard from him in a few days," Dean repeated.
"What was he hunting?" Sam asked.
"Maybe we can talk somewhere private," Dean said.
"No need, Cas knows all about the supernatural," Sam explained.
"How so? Did you tell him?" Dean asked.
"Don't be mad at your brother, I wouldn't let it go until he told me everything. Sam saved me when I was possessed by a demon last year. He did an exorcism that sent that Demon straight to hell," Cas lied.
"Way to go Sammy," Dean said.
"Isn't it scary how natural that Angel lies, you should dump that bad seed," Lucifer said.
"What was he hunting?" Sam asked.
"A woman in white," Dean explained.
"How can I help?" Sam asked.
"I need my co-pilot…I was thinking that we could retrace Dad's steps," Dean stammered nervously as if he was afraid of the answer.
"I don't know Dean, right now isn't the best time for me. I have a interview on Monday. I've got a girlfriend, a life here," Sam stated.
"How about just the weekend then? Come on Sam, I need your help," Dean stated.
"Go with him Sammy and not just for the weekend. Dump that pathetic, needy girlfriend of yours. Give up this facade that you've created for yourself and go back to being a hunter," Lucifer encouraged.
"No," Sam stated.
"You're a selfish bastard. Dad's missing and you don't even care," Dean stated as he headed for the door.
"Stop him Sammy, you have 24 hours to break it off with that pop tart and join your brother in hunting or Jessica is dead, pinned to the ceiling, burning like mommy dearest," Lucifer threatened.
"Don't go," Sam whispered.
Dean turned around. He paused, all of the color in his brother's face had drained. He was white as a ghost. There were tears in his eyes.
"What's wrong Sam?" Dean asked. His brother had been acting strange all night.
" I'll go with you, just give me some time to break it off with my girl," Sam said.
"You don't have to break things off with her Sam, I can have you back by Monday. I promise that it will just be the weekend," Dean stated.
"No, I can't live a lie any more. I don't belong here, I never belonged here," Sam stated as he headed for the door.
"Maybe you should wait until tomorrow to make that decision when you're not drunk," Dean advised.
"No, it has to be tonight," Sam said as he wiped the tears from his eyes.
"I'm sorry Sammy, believe it or not, I don't enjoy causing you pain, but this is necessary in order for us to be together," Lucifer stated.
Sam grimaced. He wanted to tell Lucifer to shut up, but he couldn't, not with Dean here.
"Hold up Sam, I'll come with you to see Jessica, you shouldn't be alone right now," Cas stated.
"Thanks Cas. Dean, we'll be back in a few minutes, Sam said and then he headed out the door with the Angel.
"What happened? Why are you breaking up with Jess?" Cas asked.
"Lucifer said I had to break up with her and leave with Dean. He gave me 24 hours or she's dead," Sam explained.
"That bastard," Cas commented.
"I just don't know what I'm going to say to her. I can't tell her the truth, that will just put her in danger, and she's not going to believe that I stopped loving her."
"I have an idea. I'll explain on the way," Cas stated as they headed out of the building.
