"Let's go," Sam said as he left his room with his bag. Sam didn't have a lot of belongings, he never had. He supposed it was a benefit of living life always on the run.
"Is he coming?" Dean asked as Cas followed them out.
"Yes, I need Cas," Sam stated.
"Does he even know how to hunt?" Dean asked.
"No, but we can teach him," Sam stated.
"Sammy…"
"He's coming, that's nonnegotiable if you want me to go with you," Sam stated.
"Fine, but he'll stay behind at the hotels until I feel that he isn't a liability that will get us killed," Dean stated.
"That's fine with me," Cas stated as he climbed in the backseat of the impala.
XOXOXO
They had driven through the night and had just entered Jericho, California as the sun rose. They checked into the hotel and got two connecting rooms.
"Get some rest Sammy, tonight we're going hunting," Dean stated as he laid down on one of the king-sized beds.
Sam lay down on his bed and closed his eyes as he listened to the faint snores coming from his brother.
He should be tired, he had been awake for a little more than 24 hours, but he wasn't. After trying to force sleep for a little more than a half hour, he got up.
"Come in," Cas called out as Sam tapped on the connecting door. "Can't sleep?" Cas asked as Sam walked in.
"No, I'm not tired," Sam said.
"Hmmm, I wonder…" Cas thought out loud.
"What Cas?" Sam asked.
"Angels don't sleep, not ever. We don't need to. I'm just wondering if your restlessness is another symptom," Cas stated.
"Why do you think Lucifer did this to me?" Sam asked.
"You're his true vessel, his other half. He hates humans, always has, so he probably didn't like that his other half was a human," Cas explained.
"It wasn't like that Sammy, well…maybe it was a little bit, but I had other reasons too," Lucifer spoke up for the first time since he had left school.
"Then explain it to me," Sam stated.
Cas stayed silent as he sat down on the bed, knowing that Sam had to have this conversation with Lucifer.
"It's true that you are my true vessel, my other half. It's also true that I hate humans, but you've always been an exception. No…I didn't want to change you because you were human, I let you keep your human soul, after all. I wanted to give you a gift Sam. I wanted you to have more power than any other, maybe even more power than my dad. You, my dear Sam, will be everything good that he has ever created, and the abomination that I created as well. When the transformation has finished you will be human, demon, and archangel," Lucifer explained.
"Wait a minute…did you say true Vessel…do you want to possess me?" Sam asked.
"No…" Lucifer chuckled. "I'm not going to possess you Sam, that's what I do with other humans, but you are different. You are my opposite in every way, my other half. With you, it will be a partnership. A bond so deep, that you are the only being that I can ever love. I know that I have to earn your trust…especially after tricking you into taking the drug, but I will Sam. In four years, you will free me from this cage and you will say yes to me," Lucifer stated confidently.
"No…I could never," Sam stated horrified.
"I'm sorry Sam, but you will. You won't be able to resist. Our bond will grow with time, and four years from now, the gravitational pull between us will be unbreakable, so strong that you will do anything to be with me, just like I will do anything to be with you," Lucifer said. "I've given you a lot to think about, so I'll be quiet for a few hours, but I'll be there to help you hunt. It might be fun to hunt other monsters," Lucifer said. He chuckled once more and then it faded into silence.
"Cas…do you think that I'm an evil abomination?" Sam asked.
"I won't lie to you Sam, not ever. Some Angels indeed believe that you are an evil abomination because you are Lucifer's true vessel, however, I don't believe that. I never have and I never will. I've been with you since you were born Sam, I've seen you grow up…you care about others, you love deeply, even monsters, like Amy."
"You know about that?" Sam whispered.
"I was there when she killed her mom to save you. I know that you let her go because even though she was a monster, you knew that she was good. You know that not all monsters are evil. I believe that you are Lucifer's other half because you are his opposite. He is the embodiment of evil and you are the embodiment of righteousness. Don't ever believe that you are anything but good, Sam Winchester," Cas said. He stood up, took a step close to Sam, and then pulled him in for a hug. Cas's massive wings spread out and then wrapped themselves around Sam, bringing an overwhelming sense of peace to him.
