Sam, Dean, and Cas arrived in Lost Creek, Colorado on November 10, 2005. They checked into the hotel suite. Sam sighed as they entered the room and dropped his bag on the bed.

"We should be out trying to find Dad, not whatever it is that you want to do here," Sam said as he sat down on the bed.

"Sam, we've been over this. The best way to find Dad is to work the cases as they come up. I believe that's what he wants. That's why we found his journal with the coordinates for this town. He wants us to work the family business, and save people. I'm certain of it," Dean stated.

"There's nothing here Dean, one missing kid is hardly news of the supernatural," Sam muttered.

"I don't think it's one missing kid. I was looking through Dad's journal and a rash of missing person cases occur every 25 years. It appears to be 25 years since the last college student went missing in this town. I don't think it's a coincidence, Sammy," Dean tried to reason with his brother.

Sam had been in a foul mood for the last few days. Dean was worried about him. He hadn't eaten in three days and he never seemed to sleep. Dean had tried to get Sammy to talk about whatever was bothering him, but the kid wouldn't open up to him.

"Your brother's right Sammy. There's a case here," Lucifer chimed in.

"Fine, we'll work the case. Cas and I will go to the library," Sam stated as he headed for the door.

"Hold up Sammy, I can make you a sandwich first," Dean offered.

"I'm not hungry."

"It's been three days since you've eaten. Please, Sammy, let me make you some food," Dean pleaded.

"Fine," Sam stated.

"I'll go to the library," Cas stated and then he left.

"How is he planning on getting there?" Dean asked as he pulled the car keys from his pocket.

"Cas likes to go on adventure walks," Sam explained.

"Your friend is a little weird," Dean said as he finished making the sandwich. He handed it to Sam.

Sam took a few bites to humor Dean, but it took every ounce of control not to spit out the food. All he could taste was the individual molecules, but not the sum part. PB used to be his favorite, but now…it was just disgusting.

XOXOXOXO

They were at the entrance of the national forest, ready to start their hike into the woods when the siblings of the missing hiker and some tour guide showed up.

"What are you doing here?" Dean asked.

"My brother is somewhere in that forest. I know that he's in danger so I'm going to find him no matter what anyone says or does," Hailey stated

"Your presence here just makes the situation worse. If you want to help your brother, go home," Sam snapped out.

"My brother's right, although his attitude needs some adjustment," Dean said as he gave Sam a pointed stare.

"We're not going. If it was your brother, neither would you," she stated as she stood her ground in a defiant stance.

"Great, so now I'm stuck babysitting," Sam growled.

"Sam, over here now," Dean said raising his voice.

"What?" Sam asked in a raised voice of his own.

"You tell me," Dean stated.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"I'm talking about this angry attitude of yours. I'm supposed to be the defiant one, not you. So, what's going on? Why are you so angry?" Dean asked.

"I don't know. I'm just angry at everyone and everything. I know I'm being an ass…I just don't know why or how to stop," Sam answered honestly.

"Well, you need to figure it out Sam, because this isn't okay, and this anger burning over the long haul is going to kill you," Dean stated and then headed back to the group.

"Sammy, I need to talk to you about something," Lucifer stated.

"Not now Luci…I just need to get this hunt over with and then we'll talk," Sam thought.

"I'll help you in any way that I can," Lucifer offered.

They were about to head into the forest when Sam's phone rang.

"What is it Cas?" Sam asked.

"How much do you and your brother know about the Wendigo?" Cas asked.

"It stems from a legend about a cannibal that ate other members of its tribe to survive. Cultures believe that eating human flesh gives the creature strength, speed, and immortality," Sam explained.

"That's correct Sam. Do you want me to come up and help?" Cas asked.

"No, Dean and I should be okay, but keep your phone handy just in case," Sam stated.

"A Wendigo?" Dean asked as he looked at his brother.

"Yes, that's what Cas seems to think it is. The 25-year cycle fits with how these creatures can hibernate for long periods," Sam stated.

"Maybe we should look for Santa Claus as well," the tour guide retorted sarcastically.

"Believe what you want, but if your brother's alive, he's probably somewhere dark, hidden, and safe. We got to track this creature back there," Dean explained as he turned towards Hailey.

"So how do we stop this creature?" She asked.

"Guns are useless, and so are knives. We got to torch it," Sam explained.

XOXOXO

They ran through the forest, the Wendigo was hunting them. The creature had already gotten the tour guide by mimicking its voice to sound just like the missing hiker. Dean and Sam had convinced the family to stay put, but the skeptical tour guide wouldn't listen to reason and now he was strung up, bullet holes in his chest.

"That's what he gets for refusing to listen to you Sam," Lucifer stated.

"Dean," Sam yelled as he realized that Dean and Hailey had gotten separated from him and Matthew.

"I think I know where the creature has taken its prey including your brother. There used to be a railroad that went through this mountain, it hasn't been used in almost a century. It would be the perfect place to set up its underground layer," Lucifer pointed out.

"Where is it?" Sam thought.

"I think I know where your sister and my brother are," Sam stated as Lucifer gave him the coordinates. "Stay close," Sam added as he took off towards the location.

Lucifer's coordinates led Sam straight to his brother and Tommy, the missing hiker. Sam felt for a pulse and breathed a sigh of relief. They were all alive.

"Sammy, it's good to see you," Dean stated as Sam cut through his ropes.

"Hurry, Sam…the Wendigo is on its way back now," Lucifer warned.

"We got to get out of here now," Sam said.

Dean and Hailey helped support Tommy as they ran down the railroad through the tunnels. The creature was nearing them and they were against a wall. Sam couldn't get the match to light.

"It's okay Sam, you don't need that. I want you to envision the Wendigo on fire and don't lose focus," Lucifer encouraged.

Sam followed Lucifer's advice and the creature screamed out as he went up in a searing blaze of heat as fire engulfed it.

"How did you…"

"I got the match to finally light," Sam lied as he buried the unlit match into his pocket, hoping that the tunnel was dark enough that Dean didn't see what happened.

XOXOXO

Sam watched as Hailey and her brothers were loaded into the ambulance. Another job was done, another monster was dead, and another family was saved. He should be happy, and feel something besides this anger and hatred that was consuming all that he was like the Wendigo itself.

"We need to talk Sammy," Lucifer pleaded, a desperate edge in his tone.

"Not now Luci," Sam stated.

Sam stormed off towards the Impala and got in on the passenger side.

"We need to talk now, sleep, and dream of me," Lucifer commanded.

Sam felt his eyelids get heavier and heavier until he was out.

"I thought that I couldn't sleep now that I'm becoming an Angel," Sam observed.

"You still have a human soul that I know how to lull to sleep if needed. I will not be ignored Sam and when I tell you that we need to talk then I mean it," Lucifer stated in frustration. "Besides, this nap will help to ease your brother's concern for you.

"What do you want Luci?" Sam snapped.

"I want to say I'm sorry," Lucifer stated.

"For what?" Sam asked.

"This overwhelming pit of anger and hatred that you feel, started around five days ago, is that correct?"

"Yes, do you know where the anger and hated comes from?" Sam asked.

"It comes from me."

"Why did you do this to me?"

"I didn't…I never wanted…I tried to keep it from you, but I should have known better. Five years ago for me, five days for you, my torture in the cage started up again. The torture…. gets to me and causes me a lot of anger, a lot of pain, and a lot of hatred towards my father and my brother for doing this to me. I wanted to stay strong for you, but it broke me again, and that essentially means that it broke you as well. I can't keep you from feeling my feelings and for that I'm sorry."

"How long will the torture last?"

"I don't know, it's different every time. Last time it lasted for 365 years my time or 1 year your time," Lucifer explained.

"That's awful. Is there anything that I can do to help?"

"You will help in 4,000 years when the time is right and you release me from this prison."

"4,000 years?"

"It's only 4 years for you,"

"Is there anything that I can do to ease your hatred now and make Hell a little bit easier for you?"

"A hug would be nice, it would ease your anger and knowing that would mean everything to me."

Sam was quiet for a second and then opened his arms.

"Not here, I want a real hug," Lucifer stated.

"How, when you're in Hell and I'm here?" Sam asked.

"I can send my shadow to be with you. Tonight meet me outside at midnight in the full moon," Lucifer stated.

"I'll be there," Sam said as he opened his eyes.

"I'm glad that you finally rested, you needed it," Dean pointed out as he looked at his brother.

"How long was I asleep?"

"About 12 hours. We're almost back to Bobby's" Dean stated.

"Did you have a good dream?" Cas asked as he looked at Sam with concern.

"I don't remember," Sam lied.

XOXOXO

The house was quiet. Dean and Bobby had gone to bed hours ago, and he hadn't seen Cas since they had gotten to the house and his Guardian Angel stalked off. He crept outside and stared at the full moon waiting for the shadow of his Dark Angel to arrive.

Sam gasped as he saw a black shadow with massive wings emerge from the darkness.

"Luci?" Sam whispered.

"It's a part of me Sammy, a part of you as well. Don't be afraid," Lucifer pleaded.

Sam hesitated for a minute but then took a step towards the shadowy figure.

Lucifer's shadow reached his hand behind his back and plucked a feather from its massive wings. It took a step towards Sam and placed the feather in his hand. The feather materialized into an actual feather colored with crimson fading into black and then a tiny amount of white on the edges.

"What is this for?" Sam asked.

"A gift…when the anger and the hatred builds and you need peace, look at this feather and say my name, and my shadow will come to you," Lucifer explained.

The shadow's wings raised one more time and then wrapped themselves around Sam and all of the anger and hatred that had consumed his every thought had dissolved, leaving a peace that Sam had never known behind. They stood that way for a long time, until the sun was beginning to rise.

"Thank you, Luci," Sam said, speaking for the first time in hours.

"Thank you, Sammy, this helps me more than you'll ever know," Lucifer said and then the shadow disappeared.

"What the hell did you do, Sam?"

Sam turned around and saw Cas staring at him with disappointment.

"Anger Management," Sam stated sarcastically.

"If you need peace come to me."

"It's not just for me. Did you know that he is being tortured in that Cage?"

"Of course Sam, it's a cage in the lowest pits of Hell. What did you think it would be like?"

"I don't know, but I had to try to help especially after I felt what he was feeling. Nobody deserves to feel that."

"Don't feel sorry for the Devil. He's earned the Cage. You can not trust him. Always remember what he did to you, what he would have done to Jess had you not saved her," Cas said and then he was gone.

Sam stared at the feather for a long time, he sighed and then headed back into the house. He went to the room that he was sharing with Dean, removed the loose panel of the wall on his side, and placed the feather inside. He covered it back up and climbed onto the top bunk bed as he remembered the peace that his Dark Angel's arms had brought him. Cas had been right, Lucifer had done monstrous things to him, but he had also given him a peace, love and belonging that he had never known. Perhaps the Devil wasn't all bad but had traces of good in him as well.
