"What's your word, Sam?" Lucifer asked.

Sam sat outside on the bench in Bobby's wrecking yard. It was dark out, the house quiet, everybody was sleeping, Cas had business in heaven and Sam was conversing with the devil. He had asked Lucifer to help him with his Enochian, wanting to distract him from the torture that was being inflicted upon him.

Lucifer didn't talk about it much, but Sam knew that it was bad. He felt as if somebody was stabbing a thousand knives into his flesh and if Sam felt that, then it had to be a thousand times worse for his Angel.

"What Dean is to me," Sam hinted.

Lucifer took a deep breath. He should have known that's what Sammy would choose. Dealing with Sam's unhealthy codependency with Dean was almost as bad as the cage's torture. Lucifer wanted to be the one that Sam thought about first. Maybe it would come in time, but until then he would have to try to be patient. He had waited for Sam for so long and sometimes he wondered if they would ever have the closeness that would make all of the pain and longing worth it. Besides his brothers had only caused him pain, Sam's brother would eventually hurt him as well.

"Luci," Sam prompted after a few minutes.

"Esiasch is the Enochian word for brother," Lucifer answered as he rolled his eyes.

"Esiasch," Sam repeated.

"Very good Sammy, you'll be speaking Enochian, maybe even better than me, in no time," Lucifer stated.

"Are you upset by my word choice?" Sam asked.

"I'm not upset with you, never with you Sammy."

"Then what was with your tone…I could picture you rolling your eyes in irritation," Sam pointed out.

"You caught that? Of course, you caught that…I'm not irritated with you Sammy. I suppose I'm concerned about your connection with your brother. My esiasch Michael and I used to be very close, like you and Dean, but he betrayed me when I needed him the most. I know that you love Dean, I do, but eventually, he will betray you the same way Michael betrayed me," Lucifer stated.

"I'm sorry that your brother hurt you, but you don't need to worry about Dean. He would never hurt me."

"You don't know that."

"I do Luci…Dean's always put me first, his entire life. He would rather die than hurt me."

"I hope that you're right Sammy. It's my turn to choose a word. Congamphlgh," Lucifer stated.

"What?" Sam asked.

"For me, it's my only source of light in the dark," Lucifer stated as he smiled.

"Stars?"

"No, it's something that you can't see, but I can. It's something that you have that I don't. It's the opposite of my grace," Lucifer hinted.

"My soul?" Sam guessed.

"Yes, the Enochian word for soul is congamphlgh."

"Soul…Congamphlgh," Sam repeated.

"Very good," Lucifer stated.

"Sam, what are you doing out here?" Dean asked as he walked over to him and handed him a beer.

"I couldn't sleep, so I came out here to look at the stars," Sam explained.

"I thought that I heard you talking," Dean pointed out.

"I was praying," Sam stated.

"You still believe in Angels?" Dean asked.

"More now than I ever have," Sam answered. "I know that you don't believe in them, but they are real."

"You know that I only believe in the things that I can see, but don't let me stop you. Mom believed in Angels as well."

"She did?"

"She used to tell me stories about them before putting me to bed," Dean remembered.

"I didn't know that."

"Maybe you get your faith from her."

"I wish that I could have known her," Sam stated.

"Me too," Dean stated. "Get some rest Sam, we're headed out to Lake Manitoc, Wisconsin at the break of dawn," Dean stated.

"I'll be ready," Sam stated.

"Is Cas coming with us? I haven't seen him in a few days."

"He had to visit his family. We'll catch up with him later," Sam explained.

"Goodnight Sammy," Dean stated

"Goodnight Dean," Sam stated.

XOXOXO

"Last week, Sophie Carlton walked into the lake and didn't walk out. Authorities dragged the lake and nothing. She's the third person to disappear into that lake," Dean explained.

"People don't just disappear Dean, other people just stop looking for them," Sam stated sourly. He was in a foul mood, the effects of the torture grating on his senses.

"Something you want to say to me," Dean asked as he pulled the Impala over to the side of the road.

"The trail for Dad is getting colder every day and you have us going to Lake Manitoc for what amounts to an accidental drowning."

"It was no accident," Lucifer pointed out.

"I'm sick of this attitude. You don't think I want to find Dad as much as you do?"

"I know you do. It's just…"

"I'm the one that's been with him every day for the past two years. While you were off at College going to pep rallies with your buddy Cas. We will find Dad, but until then, we're going to kill everything bad and save as many people between here and there," Dean stated.

"Okay Dean, I'm sorry that I said anything. Let's get going," Sam stated.

Dean pulled back onto the highway and sped towards the lake.

XOXOXO

Sam stared at the waters of the lake. It looked calm, peaceful, and serene, but he sensed that there was an angry force underneath the surface.

"She walked out 100 feet that way and then she was just gone," Will, her brother, explained.

"Was their splashing? Signs of distress?" Lucifer asked Sam.

"Was their splashing or any other signs of a struggle?" Sam asked for Lucifer.

"No."

"Did you see any shadows on the surface?" Dean asked.

"No, there was nothing like that. Why? What do you think is out there?" Will asked.

"We'll let you know when we do," Dean stated as he and Sam headed back toward their car.

XOXOXO

"Do you think it's a lake monster?" Dean asked.

"Nope. Dean is wrong more often than he's right. It's a good thing, he's so pretty," Lucifer chimed in.

"This lake monster theory bugs me," Sam stated.

"Why?"

He paused as he thought about it. He had to come up with something else besides the devil in his ear hated the idea. "Lochness has hundreds of eyewitness accounts, but there's nothing here. Whatever is out there, nobody's living to talk about it," Sam stated.

XOXOXO

"So, it's safe to say that we can roll out Nessie," Sam explained to Dean as he entered the hotel room.

"What do you mean? Dean asked.

"I just drove past the Carlton house. Will Carlton is dead. He drowned in the kitchen sink," Sam explained.

"What the hell? So, if we're not dealing with a creature then what?" Dean asked.

"Who are all the victims connected to?" Lucifer asked.

"Bill Carlton," Sam answered.

"What?" Dean asked.

"This has something to do with Bill Carlton."

"Yeah, it took both of his kids and his godson," Dean pointed out.

"Let's go talk to him," Sam suggested.

"You won't get anything out of him. Talk to Lucas, he's got the answers," Lucifer stated.

"Wait, I think that we would be better off talking to Lucas," Sam stated.

"Why? He's so traumatized, he's not speaking," Dean stated.

"I know, but I also know he has the answers that we need," Sam stated.

"Alright, let's go," Dean stated.

XOXOXO

"How did you know to draw this?" Sam asked as he laid down the drawing that the boy had given to Dean. It was a picture of the Carlton house by the lake.

"Did you know that something bad was going to happen?" Dean asked.

"Maybe you could nod yes or no for us," Sam prompted and then he recognized the haunted look on the boy's face. "You're scared," Sam whispered.

"Scared…it's okay. When I was your age, I saw something bad happen to my mom. I was scared too, and I didn't feel like talking, just like you. My mom…I knew that she wanted me to be brave. I think about that every day. I do my best to be brave for her and maybe your dad wants you to be brave too," Dean stated.

Lucas handed a picture of a yellow house to Dean.

"That's the house, Sammy. The house that holds the answers for you and your esiasch," Lucifer stated.

XOXOXO

"The kid never drew like that until his dad died," Dean said.

"There are cases where trauma sometimes sparks premonitions, psychic abilities."

"Do you think that Lucas is tapping into the monster somehow?" Dean asked.

Lucifer started laughing like it was the funniest thing that he had ever heard.

"No, I don't think so," Sam stated as Lucifer continued to laugh.

"It's only a matter of time before somebody drowns, so if you have a better lead…"

"I got nothing," Sam answered honestly. "We got to find this house," Sam said as he stared at the drawing.

"There has to be at least 1,000 houses that look just like that in this county alone."

"You see this church, I'm sure that there's less than a thousand of those around here."

"Oh, college boy thinks he's so smart," Dean stated sarcastically.

"He's smarter than you," Lucifer stated coldly as his laughing ceased instantly.

"Relax Luci…it was a joke," Sam thought to calm the anger that he could feel festering in his Dark Angel.

Sam was quiet for a minute as he thought back to Dean's conversation with Lucas. "What you said about mom, you never told me that before," Sam stated.

"It's no big deal…we're not going to have to hug or anything, are we?" Dean asked as he looked at his brother.

"Oh, dad…I hope not, it's bad enough that I'm being filleted alive, I shouldn't have to stomach seeing you hug Dean too," Lucifer growled out, each syllable dripped in anger.

"No, we'll skip the hug this time," Sam stated.

XOXOXO

Sam and Dean had located the house in the drawing and now they were questioning the home owner.

"Peter's been gone for 35 years now," she explained when they asked her about the kid that Lucas had drawn. "I never had any idea what happened. He just disappeared. Losing him was worse than dying. He was supposed to ride his bike here after school and he never showed up," she explained.

"Thank you for your time," Sam said and then he and Dean left.

"What if Peter killed him?" Sam asked Dean as they got back in their car.

"He did Sam, and because of that Peter wants revenge," Lucifer pointed out as they arrived back at the Carlton house. They had gotten there in enough time to see Bill Carlton's boat capsize in the lake, but too late to save him. Peter had claimed another victim.

XOXOXO

"I just need to make sure that the kid is okay and then we'll leave town," Dean stated as they pulled up to Lucas's house.

They went to ring the doorbell, but Lucas opened the door. He was hyperventilating.

"Upstairs Sammy, she needs you," Sam heard Lucifer prompt. Sam ran up the stairs, water was pouring down them, stemming from the bathroom. He kicked in the door and could see her drowning in the bathtub. He tried his best to pull her above the water, but the spirit holding her down was strong.

"Don't give up Sammy, you're stronger than anything or anyone," Lucifer encouraged.

Sam pulled her up and out of the bathtub, falling to the cold, hard tile. The water drained. She was safe for now.

She got dressed and sat down at the table across from Sam.

"Can you tell me what happened?" Sam asked.

"I'm losing my mind. I'm going crazy."

"No, you're not. Tell me what happened," Sam encouraged.

"There was this voice," she whispered.

"What did it say?"

"It said, come and play with me."

Dean entered the room with a photo album. "Do you recognize the kids in this picture?" Dean asked her.

"No, except that's my dad right there. He must have been around 12 in these pictures."

"Chris Bar's drowning must have been connected to Bill Carlton and Jake," Sam stated.

"What about Chris? My Dad? What are you talking about?"

"Lucas, what is it?" Dean asked as he turned to see the boy staring outside. They followed him down the path to the forest and then stopped. He looked up at Dean, pleading for the man to understand what he couldn't communicate.

"Better start digging Sammy," Lucifer prompted.

"You better take Lucas back up to the house," Sam stated. He went back to the car grabbed a couple of shovels and returned to the spot that Lucas had shown them. They stuck their shovels in the ground over and over until they hit metal. Sam reached his hands into the dirt and pulled up the bike.

"Who are you?" They heard Sheriff Jake ask. They turned and saw him holding a gun on them.

"Put the gun down, Jake," Sam pleaded.

"How did you know that was there?"

"What happened? Did you and Bill kill Peter? Drown him in the lake and bury his bike?" Dean accused.

"You can't bury the truth, Jake," Sam stated.

"I don't know what you're talking about," Jake denied.

"Dad," Andrea called out.

"You killed Peter, and now you've got one pissed-off spirit that won't stop until it's killed everyone close to you, Andrea and Lucas," Sam stated. "Everyone you love, it's going to drown them and drag their bodies God knows where, so you can feel the same pain that you inflicted on Peter's Mom," Sam stated.

"Listen to yourself, you're insane."

"The man doesn't want to listen, just leave him to his misery," Lucifer stated.

"I don't really care what you think about us, but if we're going to bring down this spirit, we need to find the remains, salt them, and burn them into dust," Dean pointed out.

"Tell me that you buried Peter somewhere, that you didn't just let his body go into the lake?" Sam asked.

"Dad, is any of this true?" Andrea asked.

"No, don't listen to them. They're liars and they're dangerous."

"Something tried to drown me. Chris drowned in that lake. Dad, look at me. Tell me that you didn't kill anyone," she pleaded.

"Billy and I were at the lake and Peter showed up. We always bullied him because he was the smallest one, but that time it got rough. We were holding his head under the water. We didn't mean to, but we held him under too long and he drowned. We let the body go and it sank," Jake confessed.

"We need to get you as far from this lake right now," Dean stated.

"It's a little late for that. Lucas went to the lake while the grown ups were talking," Lucifer commented.

"Why didn't you let me know sooner?" Sam thought to himself as he ran towards the lake.

"That insufferable man called you insane. He called you a liar and dangerous and you did nothing, so I had to. He deserves to lose everything," Lucifer commented in a tone that sent chills down Sam's spine.

"Sammy, what's going on?" Sam heard Dean call after him.

Sam got to the pier and dove in the cold waters of the lake. Dean was close behind and dove into the lake as well.

"Lucas, he's here somewhere," Sam told Dean as his brother pulled him to the surface.

"How do you know?" Dean asked.

"I just know. You have to trust me, and help me find him," Sam stated.

"I trust you. I'll help you find him," Dean stated as they both went back under the water to look for the boy.

Jake could see the angry spirit standing in the water and he knew what he had to do. "Peter, if you can hear me, I'm sorry," Jake stated as he entered the water. "I'm so sorry. Lucas is just a little boy. Please take me," Jake pleaded with the angry spirit. He disappeared into the water.

Sam reached the surface with Lucas in his arms. He pulled the child up on the land, but Jake was gone. They weren't able to locate him in the depths of the water.

XOXOXO

It was the next day and Andrea and Lucas had brought them lunch to take with them on their way home.

"Andrea, I'm sorry," Sam stated.

"You saved my life, you saved my son. I can't ask for more than that. Dad loved me, he loved Lucas. No matter what he did…I just have to hold on to that. Thank you both," she said and then she kissed Dean. They got back in their car and drove away.

"How did you know that Lucas was in the water?" Dean asked as they hit the highway.

"I'm not sure…maybe instinct. I just knew," Sam stated, hoping that his brother wouldn't press him anymore.

"Thank God that you did. You saved that boy's life."

"I think that it was more Jake. I don't think that we would have found Lucas, if he didn't enter the water, and we couldn't save him," Sam stated.

"We can't save everybody Sammy," Dean stated.

"I know," Sam stated, but he wondered if it would have turned out differently if his Dark Angel wasn't hell bent on punishing the man for what was a stupid insult. He knew that he and Lucifer would have to talk.

XOXOXO

"Lucifer can you put my soul to sleep. You and I need to talk," Sam thought to himself a couple hours later. They still had several hours of driving before they would be home and he didn't want to delay anymore.

"Of course Sammy, close your eyes and think of me," he whispered hypnotically and then he was on the beach staring out at Lake Manitoc. He looked behind him and he saw a picnic table where Lucifer was sitting, waiting for him.

"Lucifer, we need to talk," Sam said as he sat across from his Angel.

"You're angry with me for not telling you about Lucas sooner," Lucifer stated.

"That boy could have drowned and he was innocent of any blame," Sam stated.

"Sammy, that boy was never going to drown. I knew that," Lucifer stated.

"What?" Sam whispered as he looked into the eyes of Lucifer.

"I don't punish the innocent. It was all about calculation, humans can be so predictable after all. I told you about Lucas, but I told you when I knew that he had already entered the water. I knew that you would jump into the water after him. I knew that Dean would follow, Andrea and Jake would come to the shore. I made sure that Jake saw his victim, and when he did, he went into the water and offered himself up as sacrifice to the boy that he murdered. He was the one that deserved to be punished, that deserved to die, so I made sure that it happened," Lucifer stated.

"He was just a kid when Peter died. He didn't mean to kill the boy. He didn't deserve to die," Sam stated as tears came to his eyes.

"I don't care about Peter. I care about you. The man insulted you, he disrespected you in my presence and for that, he will burn for all eternity," Lucifer growled.

"You overreacted. I'm fine, it was just words."

"You're missing the point. Of course, you weren't hurt…you're powerful and that insolent man is a cockroach by comparison. You shouldn't have let him disrespect you," Lucifer stated as he grabbed Sam's hands, his eyes pleading with him to understand.

"Not everybody is going to like me and that's okay."

"It's not okay with me and it shouldn't be okay with you," Lucifer stated as he rubbed small circles into Sam's hand.

"You can't go around killing everybody that's mean to me. Can you please just let me deal with it my way?" Sam asked.

"I'll compromise with you. I won't get involved if you stand up for yourself," Lucifer offered.

"I'm not going to kill them either," Sam stated.

"You don't have to kill them, but I want you to do something. For years and years, I've watched others mistreat you, your dad, Dean, those bullies at the schools that you went to, other insignificant humans and I can only count maybe three or four times, out of hundreds where you actually stood up for yourself. You stay quiet to keep the peace, but even worse then that, you stay quiet because you agree with the insult or you think that you deserve it," Lucifer stated.

"I…"

"You can't lie to me Sam, anymore then you could lie to yourself. I've been with you since you were born, even if you couldn't hear me until recently. I've seen it all, I've heard your thoughts and the things that you think about yourself is far worse then anything those strangers could say to you. I'm done with it Sammy. I will not let others mistreat you any longer, even if I have to kill the entire human race. I will not stand idly by while they tear you down to nothing. I will remind you every single day of how amazing, brilliant, powerful and beautiful that you are until you love yourself the way that I love you," Lucifer stated and then he brought Sam's hands up to his lips and he kissed them.

"I'll try to stand up for myself more, but it may take some time for me to see myself the way that you see me," Sam whispered as the tears slid down his cheek.

"I can be patient for you Sammy," Lucifer said as he wiped Sam's tears away. "Of course, I still reserve the right to punish those that hurt you in any way after they die of natural causes or whatever," he added as he smiled.

"Luci…."

"Yes?"

"Does standing up for myself also pertain to you?" Sam asked.

"I haven't treated you with anything less than the love and respect that you deserve," Lucifer stated defensively.

"I know that, but when you insult Dean, you may as well be insulting me. All of the snide comments that you've been making, it hurts me."

"I will try to keep my comments about your brother to myself," Lucifer stated.

"Why do you hate him so much?" Sam asked.

"I don't hate him anymore then I hate the rest of humanity, excluding you of course. I'm jealous of Dean," Lucifer stated honestly.

"Because it's painful for you to see me close with my brothers when you and your brothers don't get along?" Sam asked.

"Yes, partially, but it's more than that. He has the relationship with you that I want."

"I think that you and I could get that in time. You are very important to me," Sam stated.

"And you are my everything," Lucifer stated and then he kissed him.
