'Dare I ask why it's called that?'
'You could but I don't know the answer' shrugged Ada. 'I wouldn't read too much into it.'
Hecate sighed and fervently hoped that nobody was watching. Really, what things people got up to on holiday. Here she was on a beach in Cornwall and doing something that ordinary people vulgarly called skinny dipping. Near to midnight. She was not opposed to standing near water at night. But this was a bit much and if she hadn't drunk that strangely named drink with a wedge of lime in it, she wouldn't have found herself naked in the sea. Refreshing, Ada called it. She considered it as she stood shoulder deep in sea water. She supposed it was a fleeting sensation with the illusion of refreshment. She wasn't sure if she fully opposed it now that she was here.
'Look at that moon. Isn't it glorious?'
Ada smiled at her and Hecate thought that it wasn't so bad. The moonlight was soothing. They stood and observed the centrepiece of the sky. Ada pointed out a constellation here, a constellation there. Hecate enjoyed the lapping of the waves against her skin, Ada's calm voice telling her the stories of the skies, until a bolshie disturbance caused her the biggest irritation of the last twelve hours.
Teenagers.
'Revolting' sneered Hecate, fingers itching to cast a spell on them.
'Oh dear' said Ada with a sigh. 'I really wasn't planning on seeing more than one moon tonight.'
Hecate felt her mouth twitch and looked at the other woman sideways, not fooled for a minute by the innocent expression. Life with Ada really wasn't all tea and biscuits.
