Chapter 4
Annabeth
30 minutes later...
I rubbed my head in annoyance and sighed. Ever since Nico and Thalia came, they were arguing, by which I mean screaming at each other. Half way, Seaweed Brain joined in and it became a full fledged Big Three argument. Even the weather outside reflected their mood. And I don't even know what they were arguing about! Right... I can already hear Leo's voice in my head, Annabeth don't know something? The world is endiinngg! Still, maybe it's because I didn't bother listening.
"If only your father is not such a dickhead!"
"He is not! And what about yours? I mean he framed me for gods sake!"
"Death is the ultimate end of all things! Hades is the most powerful!"
"Are we talking about that now? Of course Poseidon is the most powerful!"
"The sky is the most powerful of them all! My father is the King of all things!"
"Does not mean he's the most powerful!"
"Means too!"
"SHUT UP!" I shouted. They abruptly ended the screaming and turned to look at me in an innocent face. I glared at them and they visibly paled. Percy gulped.
I inwardly smirked, but I kept my facade up. "Children, I'm dealing with a bunch of children." I muttered, "This meeting is not for you to argue whose father is stronger! It's about your dreams!"
"Father is still the most powerful of the three." Percy stage-whispered to the others, and he quickly clasp his mouth behind his hands.
"You are so dead." Thalia said, smirking.
"I'll attend your funeral and mourn you for all eternity." Nico deadpanned.
"And tell of your story to the generations to come." Thalia wiped a fake tear.
"Of how the famous Percy Jackson dead by his own girlfriend's hand because he annoyed her."
"If you don't shut up, I'm going to kill you instead of him." I threatened.
"Yes ma'am." They saluted me. Definitely children. I think they inherited it from their Fathers, like I inherited my smarts from Mother.
I just wanted to start when the bedroom door opened. "Boys, was that screaming I heard?" Sally poked her head into our room and asked disapprovingly. I wanted to pull my hair out in frustration. Can't I start without interruptions for once? Is it too much to ask? Apparently, it was.
"Sorry, Ms. Jackson." I replied in a strained voice, "It won't happen again." I glared at the other three, daring them to oppose.
"And control your powers dears, there was a Level 5 hurricane outside when you were arguing." Sally warned, "I don't want to destroy our new house in just one day."
"Level 5?" Percy exclaimed right after she closed the door, "Dam, I thought it was only a little wind!"
"Only you, Kelp Head, only you." Thalia shook her head, "Even I know it was an hurricane!"
"Can we get back to topic already?" I demanded. I was very annoyed right now. It seemed like they realized too so they hastily agreed, not wanting to risk my wrath. A angry Annabeth is one scary Annabeth. I snickered, so true. I motioned them to sit down on the floor and I started, "Percy, can you please share your dream with us first?"
Percy
"Percy, can you please share your dream with us first?"
"Why me?" I pouted. I pointed a finger at my dear cousins, "They had dreams as well."
"Because." Annabeth stated.
"What?"
"Just because."
"Okay, I give up." I sighed in exasperation. She smirked.
"The downside of being Annabeth's boyfriend." Thalia whispered not so subtly to Nico. They then broke into fits of snickering.
"Argh!" Annabeth threw her arms up in annoyance, "Just get on with it!"
"Okay, okay." I gulped. I thought about my dream, or was it dreams? It was confusing and did not give out any information at all, but I believed Annabeth could find some leads.
"So, it started in a typical bad guy dimly lit interrogation room..." I started. I relayed my dreams to them, after 5 minutes of explaining, everyone had different sorts of faces. Annabeth looked thoughtful, Thalia looked excited while Nico looked livid. I wonder why.
"THOSE FUCKING BASTARDS!" Nico exploded, "THEY GAVE FATHER SO MUCH PAPER WORK! CHEATING DEATH!"
We stared at him, "Are you okay?" I asked cautiously.
"NO I AM NOT!" Nico ranted, "EVER SINCE THEM, THERE ARE MORE PEOPLE CHEATING DEATH AND MORE PAPER WORK! EVERYDAY, IT'S FINISH THIS, DO THAT, AND THE PROBLEM WITH CHARON AND STYX DID NOT HELP AT ALL!"
Annabeth looked taken aback at his response, but she quickly composed herself, "So, you know what his dreams were about?"
"Yeah, unfortunately." He muttered the last part.
"Great!" She clapped her hand excitedly, "Care to explain?"
We looked at him expectantly. Nico squirmed uncomfortably under our gazes, and sighed, "Fine! Fine!"
"Well, it started in about 990 AD if I remember it right." He pondered a bit, "Yep, 990 AD."
"The period when the city of Lund of Sweden was founded!" Annabeth exclaimed, "It started so early?"
Nico glared at her.
"Sorry, please continue." She said sheepishly, "I'm just a bit excited to learn new things."
"Nah, it's fine. Expected after all." Nico waved it away, "Anyway, there was this family of Mikaelson. They were a family of nine, the father was a mortal Mikael, mother was a legacy or daughter of Hecate, Esther. They had seven children, oldest called Freya, and the youngest Henrick."
"Why do we need to know their family?" Thalia whined, "There are some many names!"
"Because this family is the center of all these." Nico said flatly.
"Oh."
"Go on, Neeks." I said, "I want to get full marks on the test tomorrow!"
"Professor DiAngelo is giving out lessons!" Thalia laughed.
"On history." I smirked.
"Oh just shut up." Annabeth snapped, "This is important!"
"Because of Esther's blood of Hecate, Greek monsters constantly attack their village, but the most often were werewolves." Nico continued, completely ignoring us. "One night, Henrick got attacked by a werewolf and got killed. Mikael went into a rage and ordered Esther to learn the spell that can make him and all the children immortal, unkillable."
"The gods hate that." I pointed out.
"They were definitely going to punish them." Thalia agreed.
"Esther tried to stop Mikael and explain the situation with the gods to him, but he didn't care. He beat her for speaking against him and forced her to learn the the." Nico said disgustingly, "When she was studying the procedures, it was the period of The Mating."
Thalia and Annabeth got a horrified expression on their faces, "Even though I did not witness it, I already want to puke." Thalia shuddered.
"After I read about it, I got nightmares for a week straight!" Annabeth added.
"May I ask what are you talking about?" I raised my hand and asked, confused.
"The Mating was the time when werewolves breed with mortals." Nico said helpfully.
Okay damn. That was revolting. I mean who would like to have children with those mutts anyways? They were smelly and brutal. And the image of them having that? Plain horrifying. I made a face at that and shuddered, "Ewwwwww."
"Because a werewolf killed Mikael's youngest son, he had a grudge to all werewolves, so when he found out about the human-werewolf hybrids, he declared war on them, not the original werewolves because he knew he could not beat the original ones." Nico carried on, "After that, he found out one of his sons, Niklaus, was actually a human-werewolf hybrid! It was very surprising to him, because she was a descendant of Hecate and she slept with a monster mutt."
"Please don't plant that disturbing image into my brain." Thalia covered her ears with her hand.
"But he was more angry and betrayed than surprised." Nico said darkly, "He started yelling and beating Esther more often and gave her less time to rest. He ordered her to place a binding spell on Niklaus to lock his werewolf side away. After that, Esther continued to learn the immortal spell."
"Unwillingly." Thalia emphasized.
"Unwillingly," he agreed, "After 5 years of studying, Esther finally finished the spell preparation. It was a very complicated and difficult spell."
I gasped dramatically, "Oh my gods! My hard work for five long years! I'm finally able to turn my children into immortals!"
They stared at me weirdly. "What?" I demanded.
"Unwillingly." Thalia repeated.
Annabeth sighed, "Nico, just continue and ignore them."
"You wound me, Annie!" Thalia sniffed.
"Don't. Call. Me. Annie!" Annabeth snapped with gritted teeth.
"Anyway, the process to turn the children into immortals was brutal so I am not going to there," Nico hurriedly said, not wanting another argument to occur. "And as you all expect-"
"The gods did not like it." We all finished together.
"I should have just guessed it." I rolled my eyes.
"Let me guess," Thalia leaned forward, "My Drama Queen of a father ordered some gods to curse them."
"Correct." Nico said darkly.
"And we have a winner!" I cheered.
Annabeth shot me a look but Nico beat her to it, "It was not funny at all, Perce." He warned, "The gods made their lives very miserable."
"Since when hadn't the gods screw some people's lives?" I shot back.
"Well true." He sighed.
"What were the children's name anyway." Annabeth interrupted, "You never told us."
"I didn't?" Nico scrunched up his face, "I thought I did."
"You didn't." Thalia confirmed.
"Okay." Nico thought for a moment, "What were their names again? Oh yeah!" He snapped his fingers, "I'm gonna say it from oldest to youngest-"
"Just get on with it already!" I groaned.
"Fine. The ones that were turned immortals were Freya, Finn, Elijah, Niklaus, Kol and Rebekah." Nico stated, "Anyway where was I?"
"The gods were dickheads and cursed the children." I said helpfully.
"Ah yes. So anyway, Thunder Pants upstairs ordered Apollo to curse them if he did not want to loose his immortality."
Thunder rumbled outside, "Yeah yeah whatever." He rolled his eyes. He turned grim, "Apollo followed his father's orders-" he spat out the word orders as if it was a curse, "and cursed them to eternal night."
Annabeth gasped. She obviously knew what that was. "That's cruel!" She exclaimed.
"You lost me right there." I scratched the back of my head, "What the hell is that?"
"That, Perce" Thalia said grimly, "means the sun is fatal to them."
"Huh?"
Annabeth whacked my head with a book. Where did she get the book anyway? "Seaweed Brain, she means if they go under the sun, they would die, turn into dust." She explained.
"Oh!" I realized, "That really is cruel." I said sadly.
"Thankfully, Apollo took pity on them," Nico continued, "And gave them a way to survive under the sun."
"I really hate it when they pity me and give me some 'help' which turns out to be more of a nuisance than help." I grumbled.
"Just shut up, Kelp Head, no one wants to hear what you want to say." Thalia raised an eyebrow, "At the pace we are going, I bet 10 drachmas we can't finish before lunch."
"You're on." I smirked.
"What was the damn way?" The ever curious daughter of Athena asked, ignoring the children of Zeus and Poseidon.
"Dam." Thalia whispered to me and I snickered.
Nico started to mimic Apollo's voice, "Should the ones I cursed and the ones after them wear lapis lazuli rings enchanted by the legacies of Hecate, they may step into the sun unharmed."
We bursted into laughter after that. I heard thunder rumble outside and I could imagine his hurt face and voice saying "You wound me, cuz!" while pointing at his heart.
"Should the ones blah blah blah-" Thalia giggled, "And the next thing we know is Apollo speaking in Shakespearean English. Thou shalt stay in the sun should thou wear the lapis lazuli rings enchanted by the legacies of Hecate, Goddess of Magic, Crossroads and Mist."
I dissolved into another round of laughter. "I can totally imagine him saying that." I chuckled.
"Actually I think it's pretty possible since his Arrow of Dodona is Shakespearean." Nico deadpanned.
Annaebth sighed in annoyance, "Can we please continue? I really wish I have my knife right now."
"Maybe you should just list out the names of the gods that cursed them and what was their curse?" I suggested, "It takes up less time."
"Sure." Nico thought for a moment, "Apollo, eternal night. Hades, need to drink blood to survive. Demeter, fatal to white oak wood. And that's about it, I think."
"What are their abilities and how to kill them?" Annabeth asked eagerly.
"They all have supernatural speed, strength, senses, vision ans hearing." He listed them out, "And they have this ability to compel people with their eyes, but it's just a type of mist manipulation.
"As for killing them, we can do it be putting a white oak stake through their heart and put them in sunlight without lapis lazuli ring protection. Second generation can be killed just by putting a wooden stake through their heart, sunlight, vervain poisoning and beheading." He continued.
"Vervain poisoning?" Annabeth inquired.
"Yep, vervain are bad for them as you can guess, it can burn them and weaken them. If it gets into their system, they can die." Nico explained, "Normal wooden stakes through the heart cannot kill the first generation, we call them The Originals, but it can put them into a coma."
"What is this species' name anyway?" Thalia demanded, "I keep hearing first generation, second generation, but I never know first and second generation of what?"
"The mortals call them, vampires." Nico replied gravelly.
