Author's Notes: I had a very fun idea when I was rewatching the show recently, what if somebody got the name wrong. It wasn't Vampire Slayer as in somebody who slays vampires, but instead a Vampire; Slayer. While I am aware that the original lore may not coincide with my own ideas, I am attempting to create a story in which there will be significant power ups of beings. This means that other characters will have power ups in order to maintain strength hierarchy. Read, review (all criticism is welcome whether constructive or not, I am looking for opinions!) and enjoy as best you can!

Chapter 1 - Rude Awakening

Spike could feel the flames dancing around him, the heat teasing his senses. It took much longer than it should have for him to realise that he was surrounded by fire, and not just the building but literally encased in flames. Knowing that flames were typically bad for him and his kind; vampires, Spike hurriedly patted his body in an attempt to douse the flames before they could damage him.

In his panic he didn't hear the chuckle, nor see the character watching on bemusedly. "Ahhh! Bloody Hell!" The antics of dousing the flames proving fruitless Spike resorted to the ol' classic motto, stop, drop, and roll.

The character's chuckles now turned into a much more intense laugh than it likely intended, something about watching a pale, bleach blonde, vampire in a leather coat roll on the floor making panicked yelps was truly a sight to behold.

Spike again finding his efforts fruitless thought on what else he could try, and then a thought hit him like a stubbed toe. 'How the bloody hell am I not dust by now?' He had been rolling around and patting himself down for at least 30 seconds, he had seen vampires dust in a quarter of that time from much less fire than this. So why was he still alive?

With deep thoughts of 'Bloody' and 'Ponce' Spike considered how foolish he must've looked while rolling around on the floor. Not that there was anybody to see him but still, he was the Big Bad he didn't roll on the floor for anything. He was proud, strong, fearless…

"Vampire." The deep voice startled spike into a small yelp that was hard to determine if it came from him or a ten year old girl. A smirk rose to the creature's face once again because of this funny vampire in front of him.

Quickly clearing his throat and taking a cautious and anticipated stance Spike spoke out. "Hello mate, and who are you exactly? Couldn't tell me about these flames could you? In fact, let's just start with goodbye and you get me the hell out of here. Gotta find my princess before she gets hurt." His northern accent comes out in full force as his Spike creates a wall between this creature in front of him and his own identity.

"Relax, vampire. I am not here to hurt you, simply talk." The creature raised a hand in an effort to silence spikes open mouth before he could retort. "Believe me young one, we have much to discuss." Knowing the vampire would need to feel secure enough for their conversation to go as planned the creature paused to allow the vampire to think on it.

Spike took a moment to reach out with his senses, while still a very young vampire his family had taught him enough to get by in a world of dangerous possibilities. After a short moment Spike sensed something rather gripping about the creature. He couldn't sense it. Not a tingle, not a smell, even looking at the creature was difficult.

"Well it seems like I don't have too much choice in this matter then do I?" Still unsure of what was in front of him Spike stayed in a very ready stance, prepared to run, fight, or both depending on what was needed.

The creature considered Spike's words very carefully about not having a choice in the matter. "Would you choose to talk with me if the option was yours to take?" The curiosity in the creature's voice was surprising to Spike. "Would you stay and discuss what I know needs to be discussed or, would you leave and pretend as though this never happened."

With a wave of the creature's hand the flames surrounding Spike disappeared and a bright light shaped of a doorway opened in the room. "I do not intend to take away your free will, you may choose." The creature gestured towards the light.

To say that Spike was surprised would be an understatement. The last thing he expected was for this creature; who seemed to be able to pluck him from his night out with his Princess, surround him in fire, and be completely imperceptible to his sensThe locked and loaded muscles of Spike were primed to go out that door in a heartbeat should he find the tiniest suspicion of ill intent.

Fighting against his instincts Spike worked hard to truly look at the Thing before him. Almost like a flickering distortion in the air the being's silhouette was cloaked in a nothingness, not dark, but simply non-existence. The billowing of the cloak made Spike's vision blur and shift every time he tried to see the creatures form.

Now that he had focussed even harder a soft hum of white noise was filling his ears, resonating with his brain making it hard to remember information about the creature. Hell it was making it hard for him to remember information about himself.

In that moment Spike made probably one of very few smart decisions in his entire life. "Alright what is it you got to say to me?" Spike spoke with an edge of unease with the new perception of the creature; he knew that if forced to fight he was losing eleven times out of ten.

Taking a moment to once more consider Spike the creature paused before speaking. "Your name is William Pratt, son of Anne Pratt; deceased twice over. You are a poet, a bachelor, and the Lord of the Pratt household." Spike couldn't hide his shock at the knowledge this creature held over his past, even knowing about the turning and dusting of his mother.

"And now, you are a vampire, sired by Drusllia and youngest in the Scourge Aurelian family of Angelus, Darla, and Drusilla." Spike's shock was not lessening in the slightest with the creature's continuous pouring of information, in fact it was just increasing his unease.

With an unemotive face the creature continued. "I know who you are, William The Bloody, Master Pratt, Spike. And I am here to give you a choice and some information." Spike opened his mouth in order to say something but was rapidly silenced by another raised hand. "Please, young one, wait until I finish talking before you ask any questions. Use that Oxford education of yours to be patient."

This creature knew everything about the vampire both William and Spike; and it was frightening Spike down to his core. Every single one of his cells was vibrating and itching under his skin. Taking a deep, unnecessary, breath He remained quiet and patient as best he could given the situation. Giving a small nod to continue the creature smirked before nodding back.

"Once upon a time the World was overrun by monsters, demons, and beings of all kinds. The few humans of the world struggled to survive in this harsh environment, whether it was by demons or each other, death was inevitable for the human race. That was until three men did what they believed was right, they kidnapped both a demon and a girl. Using the power of dark magic they were able to instil the essence of that demon into this girl. Their goal was to create a warrior that would fight against the demons, the forces of evil and the creatures of darkness. They created, The Slayer."

Spike felt his body tingle with goosebumps at the mention of this Slayer girl. He felt drawn to the name alone, like he had to find them and….do something. Shaking off these thoughts he once more returned to the creature's story.

The eyes of the creature glowed slightly brighter seeing Spike's reaction to the name 'Slayer'. "This Girl battled every night defending her family, her friends, and strangers. Proving every night that she lived up to her name. Only, it was once her family had died at a monster's hand did she realise that her connections were weakening her from her duties. Unable to continue losing people she found herself disconnected from all other humans. Istead, she went out, hunting all forces of evil continuously. This drove her to the very edge of humanity, the demon in her taking over her body and her soul, lessening her human aspects more and more as her existence continued."

The creature briefly paused to give Spike some time to consider and think over his words. "However, she wasn't just hunting the monsters, she was feeding. Draining the life essence of her kills. The demon essence inside her craved more with every feed. The blood she was taking in only proved to fuel her strength and her animosity."

With a shocked gasp Spike broke through the story the Creature in front of him was telling. "You don't mean…. You can't possibly… The first vampire was created to fight evil?" The creature gently sat cross legged on the ground in front of Spike. "Do not speak hastily, young vampire, my story is not quite finished."

With a soft nod of apology Spike too sat down, the student in him wanting to learn about the history behind this 'Slayer' who kept sending shivers down his spine.

"The Slayer spent years, more years than she should have been able, fighting, feeding, and defending the human race. Never once did she question her cause, or her ideals. It wasn't until one creature got lucky and she was seriously hurt that she even stopped for more than one night. And it was once she stopped she came upon a realisation. Her power was not her own, the demon in her was taking over her body more than she even realised. She could even feel her soul slipping away.

And much like any fighter she knew that one day she would get into a fight that she wouldn't walk away from alive. And it was only a matter of time before some creature had itself a very lucky day." Once more giving Spike a moment to reflect on his words the Creature paused. "I will field one question now, but choose carefully as it will be the only one you get until I finish."

Spike's mind was racing with thoughts and questions as he regarded everything that had been said. 'One question… One question… that isn't enough. I have to know more. There is so much information I don't have.' After a few minutes of silence Spike looked like he got a stick up his ass, standing upright as stiff as a board Spike came to a conclusion on what his question would be.

"What is your name?" Spike asked with a politeness present only in a scholar. The creature was taken aback by this question, especially with all of the information it had just given to Spike; the last thing he expected was questions about himself.

With a hearty laugh that could vibrate the world itself the creature stood up and bowed slightly to Spike. "My given name, in a language you could understand, is Gibraltar. I am a guardian of sorts. And I, along with my siblings, have aged far beyond our time. We have stood far before the Humans arose and it has taken its toll on us and the universe. We believe that it is time for new guardians to rise up. And so, we created The Powers That Be. A near omnipotent collection of beings that are being trained to defend the dimensions as we know them. Of course, I say being trained, when in reality they have been manipulating humanity and the forces of Good since Humans first arose. It was their idea to place demon essence inside the Slayer, in order to fight evil there had to be some evil." Gibraltar gave Spike an opportunity to mull over his words. "Does that sufficiently answer your question, young one?"

Spike was dead silent. For the first time in his life he was beyond words. The open mouth and the wide eyed expression were a give away to his true emotions. 'What the bloody buggering fuck.' Before him sat a being who had been around not only before the creation of humans but seemingly the creation of everything. And he had the audacity to demand something from it earlier. What a git.

Spike cleared his throat before speaking, "uhhh… I ummm… It sure does. I have so many questions though." Once more a laugh ripple out from the creature vibrating with Spike's bones. "While I am certain that you do, I will finish my story before indulging in those queries. Please, sit with me and let me tell you a story.

The Story of The first Vampire Slayer.
