Chapter 68: Becoming the Light That Shines Through the Darkness

"Chairman Damnatio... please forgive me..." Kabwe choked on his blood. "Please... stop... them..."

"What's wrong, Kabwe?" Damnatio barked into the communicator.

"Will you fill us in on the details?" Julius requested. "Those who worship the devil..." he mused, glancing at the retrieved Devil Believer mask. "Devil Believers? So, your subordinates who actually despised the devil..."

"It's probably safe to assume that they were being used." Damnatio admitted. "Those fools."

"I understand if they wanted to destroy them, but wanting to worship the devil?" Yamim pondered. "Talk about a bunch of weirdos."

"Pardon me." Marx entered the meeting room. "It appears that communication magic came from Tiulyu."

"The Black Bulls are hereby ordered to capture the Devil Believers and rescue Secre." Rhiannon ordered.

After the Black Bulls finished their survey on Tiulyu...

"I'm sure the Devil Believers approached Kabwe and the other Magic Parliament members in hopes of getting information." Julius surmised after Yami made his report. "If that's the case, they must've gotten word that the devil called Megicula is in the Spade Kingdom. And then, they want to join the Spade Kingdom, or rather, join with the Devil. We probably won't know the reason why until we ask them personally. In any case, it's likely the Devil Believers are trying to cross the borders beyond the Forsaken Realm to get to the Spade Kingdom. Yami, I'm counting on you. They might be using something to prevent their mana from being tracked." he reasoned, after Yami reported back that the Devil Believers were nowhere in sight. "We haven't gotten any notable information over here, either. I'm assuming the Devil Believers got through the Forsaken Realm and are trying to go to the Spade Kingdom."

On Breed Mountain...

"Looks like we made it on time." Fuegoleon noted, on Salamander with Cob in tow, Nozel was flying on his mercury eagle beside him. "We would like all of you to listen to us." he shouted to the villagers gathered. "Looks like they're not going to listen." he remarked, seeing the villagers sending their mana to Dazu via their Grimoires. "That's not surprising."

"I'm sure they feel nothing but distrust for us." Nozel added.

All of the sudden, a titanic ice monster appeared from the next mountain over, scattering the frightened villagers.

"Her catalyst magic most likely affects the mana in the surrounding area, too." Fuegoleon reasoned.

"And we're right next to a strong magic region." Nozel pointed out. "That must've summoned a magic beast from there."

"Fire Creation Magic: Ignis Columna!" Fuegoleon blocked out the ice giant's freezing breath.

"Mercury Magic: Silver Bullet." Nozel came in from the side, shooting out his mercury bullets at the ice beast's head.

"Dark Magic: Dark Cloaked Avidya Slash." Yami's energy slash sliced through the ice monster's claws.

"Mercury Magic: Silver Shining Regal Spear." Nozel let Yami use his extended spear as a foothold to jump out of his attack's path, before letting the mercury beam slice through the ice giant's arm.

"Fire Spirit Magic: Salamander's Breath!" Fuegoleon held the ice beast in place.

"Dark Magic: Dark Cloaked Black Blade." Yami ended the fight. "I think you got the wrong idea." he chided the gathered villagers after the altercation.

"We didn't come here to apprehend you." Nozel assured. "We just came to talk to you."

"Roger." Cob saluted after Fuegoleon gave him a nod and opened a portal, letting William, Damnatio and Rhiannon through.

"We don't intend to punish you." William told the crowd. "It appears that you're heading towards the Spade Kingdom, but you haven't crossed the border yet, which mean you haven't committed a crime yet. But, if we just asked you to go home from here, I'm sure you'd refuse. We Magic Knights understand your situation. So please, could you give us a bit of time? We will try to get rid of your doubts."

"As you can see, we do have some royal and noble elites in the Magic Knights." Yami stepped forward. "But it's not as if we're all like that. My Squad has a former convict, someone who got kicked out of their home, a loner, a guy who was disowned by his family, someone who's been alone for a really long time, and we've even got some peasants. Also, I'm a foreigner. So, I get where you guys are coming from."

"What really pushed you over the edge are your differences and the discrimination you faced." Rhiannon took over. "This is one of the reasons why I have been reborn in this time."

"We must apologize for how powerless we've been to help you thus far." Nozel admitted.

"I swear upon the House of Vermillion, I will aid the Lady Freyja in and do everything I can to rid this world of these differences and discrimination. Please, go back to your homes and wait for the day we fulfill our promise. We will shine the light known as hope upon the darkness."

"I am the same as you." William removed his mask. "I have faced discrimination because of this face. But the current Wizard King, Julius Novachrono, did not care how I looked and took me in. He and Freyja-sama accepted me for who I was. Now, it's our turn. We will create a place for you to stay; a place where the sun shines. So please, once... just once I ask that you believe in us."

With William's heartfelt speech, the villagers dispersed.

"Now then." Rhiannon addressed the remaining Devil Believers. "Dazu Tayak, Bow Nocde and the other Devil Believers leaders, you are a complete separate matter. You kidnapped two girls, instigated a riot in the royal capital and you are suspected of killing Kabwe Carillon, Onoby Sinho, and, Siona Caverly of the Magic Parliament."

"You must be judged." Damnatio stepped up, his Scale Magic already activated. "You have committed severe crimes."

"If we're just going to get arrested and be punished, then I'll blow all of you away." Dazu took out a potion she had stored.

"Don't waste your time." Yami grabbed her wrist, forcing Dazu to drop the potion vial.

"Who said anything about arresting you?" Damnatio retorted. "How naive. I told you I'm going to judge you. Therefore, you are hereby exiled from this Kingdom."

"Roger." Cob saluted when Damnatio gave him a look and he opened a second portal.

"Leave the Clover Kingdom immediately." Damnatio ordered.

"We will decide where we will go." Dazu declared. "No one can decide our path for us."

"Do as you please." Damnatio relented, Cob dispelling his portal.

"Asta." Dazu returned the five-leaf Grimoire back to its owner and the five Devil Believers went their own path towards the Spade Kingdom.
