chapter 6: CASPER IN DANGER
in the big city, Casper woke up. He hadn't had a good night's sleep in the cardboard box, and already, he was starting to get hungry.
He went to the nearest restaurant, and ordered the same breakfast as yesterday - toast, orange juice, bacon and eggs.
No sooner did he leave the restaurant, however, it began to rain.
Casper quickly pulled his hoodie over his head, and ran towards the shopping mall. Inside the mall, it was warm and dry. "It's much warmer in here." Casper said to himself. He walked around the mall, looking at all the different shops. "I wonder what Mom & Dad are doing right now." he said.
MEANWHILE, in Casper's house, Amber had recovered from fainting, and she & Reg were talking to the cartoon characters.
"So let's see if I've got this right." said Amber, sipping her cup of herbal tea, like she often drunk when recovering from a shock. "You lot come from different worlds seen in tv shows and films, and now you're here in the real world to help us?"
"Exactamente." Agustin said. He sipped a cup of herbal tea. "You know, Mrs Mitchell, I certainly love this infusión."
"Thanks... I think." Amber said.
"It's such a nice place." said Sister Bear, as she was sitting on the far back chair near the window. "I think it's just right." said Brother Bear.
"You sound almost like Goldilocks." D.W. said. Thankfully, nobody heard her.
"Si." said Hiro Hamada. "We're here to help you because we witnessed your son running away from home. He even stole money from your father's wallet."
Reg & Amber gasped in horror.
"WHAT!?" Reg yelled, angrily. "HE DID WHAT!?"
"Honey, inside voice, please," Amber said. "We have guests."
"OOOOOOOH, just wait till we find Casper! I'm gonna give him a good spanking when we get him home! He won't be able to sit down till he's a teenager!" Reg growled, his hands forming shaking fists.
"Now, now, Mr Mitchell," said Sheriff Callie, "let's not resort to violence and abuse. This is a kids movie."
"Good." said Angelica. "I don't want to be a victim of seeing violins in front of me before I'm growed up."
"Huh?" Reg said, looking at Angelica. "I can't believe you got your words wrong there."
"What?" said Angelica. "I AM a toddler in my show, you know. I can't say words properly yet, but I am learning."
"Ok," said Tech, interrupting the conversation, "Can we please move on with the story?"
"OK," everyone said.
"Mr & Mrs Mitchell," Tech said, "it's been brought to our attention that we found out what your son got up to when he ran away. Now, it's time we showed you."
he showed Reg & Amber the footage on his screen; all of which was from the start of chapter 4 of this story.
The first thing was Casper refusing drugs from the man with a scruffy face wearing scruffy clothes.
"Wow." Reg said. "Just as well he didn't take drugs."
"My point exactly." Amber said. "I remember he once told us about when Michael, one of the kids from the big classes in his school, started taking drugs."
Tech fast forwarded the footage to when Casper met a mugger, in the fast food restaurant. They watched as Casper cut the mugger's pointer finger off. All the cartoons in the room gasped, with Buttercup turning Bubbles' face away.
"How horrible!" Agustin exclaimed.
"I can't believe our son did that!" Amber exclaimed angrily. "2 people cut with scissors this week... and it's only Friday!"
"We'll have to catch up with him before he gets into trouble!" Reg declared, gulping down his sweet tea, before heading to the kitchen to get his coat.
"So, Is your son in trouble, or is he the trouble?" Angelica asked for no reason.
"Either he's in trouble..." Amber said.
"Or he will be, when we're through with him." Reg finished grimly.
"But that's nothing compared to what trouble you two will get in." Tech said.
Reg & Amber stopped bustling for a moment, and turned to Tech. "What are you talking about?"
"Well," AJ said, "when kids run away from home, it's not just them that end up in trouble."
"It's not?" chorused Reg & Amber, anxiously. They didn't like where this was going.
"No." Tech said, "It's the parents."
He showed them more pictures on his screen - and those pictures were not pleasant to see, mind you. Buttercup turned Bubbles' face away once again.
Reg & Amber saw pictures of them mourning over their son's dead body, for Casper had been hit by a truck and killed.
Then there was a picture of them in court, being sued for being neglectful parents, then, both of them sitting in prison, wearing orange prison clothes, looking depressed.
When Tech turned the pictures off, Reg & Amber's jaws hung, and Amber buried her face into her husband's shoulder, shaking with silent sobs.
"Wow." Reg, said, comforting his wife. "All that because our son ran away?"
"Exactamente." said Esteban.
Reg & Amber looked at each other. They became very worried. If they didn't go find Casper and explain all this to him, they'd end up sued for being irresponsible parents/guardians, and/or in court.
there was only one thing to do - get after Casper.
"We must find Casper." Reg decided. Amber nodded.
Reg put on his coat, and headed outside, followed by Amber and the other Cartoon characters.
They went to where the other vehicle Cartoon characters were.
"Wait for me!" called a voice.
Suddenly, a bright yellow living backhoe digger drove up. It was Scoop from Bob the Builder.
"I remember seeing that yellow digger from the construction site!" Reg said.
"Yes, Reg," Scoop said, "and now, we're off to help you find your son."
"sURE." Said Reg. "We're gonna need all the help we can get."
"So," He called out, "Can we find him?"
"Yes, we can!" all the cartoon characters said at once.
So Mirabel, Agustin, D.W, Arthur, Esteban, Angelica, Brother & Sister Bear and Jack Skellington went with Max, Ben & Gwen, Ginger & Pingu went with Reg & Amber in their car [with Smurfette riding IN Reg's coat pocket], and Aj used his engineering to make Blaze become a car carrier truck, so he could carry Wilson, Roary, Maxi, Buddy, Tech, Jack Hammer, and Daisy Do Right.
Chase rode in his vehicle, Scoop drove down the roads himself, with Sheriff Callie riding on him, and the Powerpuff Girls flew, as did Hiro, riding on Baymax.
Without a second thought, the cavalcade set off to the city.
"Come on! No telling what mischief Casper's gotten himself into!" Reg said.
They didn't know that Casper was walking around the mall, after having his lunch [a burger from a cafe in the mall]. Now, he seemed to betting bored. "It's boring walking around and seeing the same stores over and over again." he muttered, "but it's better than walking around in the rain."
Suddenly!
A big-looking hand grabbed him.
Casper turned, and there he saw a big bulky kid. "Oh no." he muttered. This kid, he saw, was one of the bullies in the school.
"Give us your money." the bully said.
But Casper wasn't scared. 'If I dealt with that mugger before, I can deal with this bully.' he thought to himself.
He whipped out the scissors again, and...
SNIP!
Casper cut the bully's arm, making him let go.
The bully ran away, crying.
Casper ran, feeling very pleased with himself.
Suddenly, he saw some mall cops running after him!
"Get him!" the lead mall cop shouted to his co-workers.
Casper raced through the mall, but soon, the mall cops surrounded him.
"Right boys," said the lead mall cop, "on 3, we pounce on him."
Everything seemed to stop.
Then...
"3!" the lead mall cop yelled.
All the mall cops pounced, but Casper slipped away, leading to all said mall cops getting into a pileup. By the time the pile realized he wasn't there, Casper had already escaped the mall, not even caring he was in the rain.
He found an open mattress van, and clambered into the back, hiding behind some soft mattresses.
"Good," Casper said to himself, "I'll be safe here."
SUDDENLY!
The back door shut, and then, all of a sudden, the van started moving.
"UH-oh!" Casper said to himself. "Now what?!"
The mattress van was trundling along the roads, as the driver was singing along to the radio.
Suddenly, form out of nowhere, a speedster raced by recklessly, taking him by surprise, and making him skid all over the road, and he drove off the road, down a hill, and into a muddy field, where the van skidded, swerved, and crashed into a tree.
Luckily, Casper & the driver weren't hurt - Casper had landed on a soft mattress, and the driver had jumped out the van just before it crashed.
Casper got out the van, and wandered around. "Where am I now?" he said, wandering around the forest. The driver was too busy dusting himself down to notice the stowaway.
