I was watching Season 5, Episode 17, "Boozin' Buddies" and modified the episode a bit on Samantha's part. What happens that pulls the family together when needed?
Chapter 1 – Drinking at the Party
Samantha had tried for weeks to get Tim Collier to notice her at school, but he hadn't yet. She hoped he'd be at the party this evening. Her friends and her were going and she hoped she'd see him there and finally get to talk to him.
Mona and Samantha walked into the kitchen as Tony and Jonathan are getting his famous chili ready for tomorrow's big fight.
I'm telling you, Mona, Tim Collier doesn't even know I'm alive."
"That's because you are trying too hard. If you want a man to pay attention to you, there's only one way… Ignore him."
"That's it?"
Angela butted in, much to the surprise of Mona and Tony.
"Oh, well, there are other ways, but you're only 16."
Tony, stunned at her comment, glances at Angela before he speaks.
"Angela!"
"I'm sorry, it just popped out!"
"Go, before there are any more explosions from Angela's id."
"Okay, Dad, well, I'll be home at midnight."
"11:00."
11:30."
"11:00."
"11:15."
"11:00."
"11:00, but that is my final offer."
"You drive a hard bargain."
Tony kisses Samantha goodbye as she heads to the party.
"Bye, Dad."
"Bye, sweetheart. Be careful."
Samantha, Nancy and Bonnie arrive at the party and stand over in the corner, eating potato chips, hoping to be noticed by some cute guys. As they look around the room, they notice some other girls that they know doing the same thing and looking hopeless doing it.
"Look at that, look. Molly, Sarah, and Emmy, just standing there pigging out on chips, hoping some guys will ask them to dance."
"How pathetic."
As they realize they are doing the same thing, they quickly hide the bowl behind them as Nancy walks over and grabs three beer bottles for them to take.
Samantha is hesitant to take the beer, as she knows her father raised her not to drink.
"Uh, no thanks, I don't like the taste of this stuff."
"Well, just hold it. You'll look cool."
At that moment, three cute guys walk in the room, and they decide to get closer to be noticed. Not wanting to seem eager to be noticed, they slow down and stand in the middle of the room, hoping the three guys will notice them.
It works but surprisingly, one of the guys is interested in Bonnie. They walk off, leaving Samantha and Nancy to themselves.
A moment later, another cute guy walks up to Nancy and says "hey" and she walks off with him, leaving Samantha alone, standing in the middle of the room.
Samantha decides to sit down on the couch as Tim Collier walks up behind her.
"Samantha Micelli, sophomore, Fairfield High School, right?"
"Oh…hi."
"Hi."
Uh, yeah. How'd you know all of that?"
"I just – I asked everybody in here who was the prettiest girl in the room."
Laughing, Samantha lets it slip that she knows who Tim is, even though he doesn't know that she knows him.
"Oh, smooth one, Tim!"
"How'd you know my name's Tim?"
"Uh… you look like a Tim."
"Smooth one, Sam."
As they take their seat back on the couch, Samantha pushes the unopened beer bottle off to the side, hoping to get rid of it.
"I don't blame you for getting rid of that. That's a light beer, right?"
"Yeah, I don't like the taste."
"Oh, me neither."
"Really?"
"Here. Try one of these."
Tim pulls an unopened green bottle of beer out of his jacket pocket and hands it to Samantha to drink. Unsure of what to do, Samantha is hesitant at first but takes the bottle from Tim's hand.
"This is a real beer."
Tim twists the lid off the beer for Sam and clinks his bottle to hers, urging her to drink it with him.
Not sure what to do, Samantha decides to "play it cool" and drink with Tim, hoping he will like her more if she's "cool".
As the party goes on into the evening, Samantha, Tim and her friends are completely smashed. They can barely stand, let alone, walk.
"Hey Sam, would you like to take a drive with me?"
"Oh, I don't think so. We're drunk, Tim."
"Oh, don't worry about it. We'll be fine. We are just driving a little bit down the road."
Her friends continued encouraging her, hoping she'd spend some alone time with Tim.
Giving in to peer pressure, Samantha decided to take the drive with Tim, wondering what it would hurt to spend some time with him alone. She figured he wouldn't drive very far since they were clearly drunk.
Tim and Samantha got in his car, a two-door sports car, and Tim hit the gas pedal to show off to Sam. He was hoping she'd get to like him more because he liked her, a lot. She was cool and seemed like a nice girl to be around.
Tim continued driving down the road as the city turned into the country and the road became curvier. Tim had continued drinking while driving, much to Samantha's displeasure.
"Uh, Tim, you may want to slow down."
"Nonsense. I'm a good driver. I can handle these curves."
Trying to show off more to Sam, he decided to push the gas more and speed around the curves.
"Tim, slow down!"
Tim just kept going faster and faster. At one point, they were almost at 70 mph going around curves meant for 45 mph.
Around one curve, they met a semi-truck, who blew its horn at them, and Tim swerved to miss him.
"Tim, I think we should slow down. You're going too fast."
"Nah, this is fast, watch!"
Tim hit the gas pedal again, pushing the car up to almost 90 mph. As the car took the next curve, it was too curvy, and Tim lost control. The car began to swerve back and forth, hitting the hillside, crashing through the guardrail, down the embankment, flipping multiple times until it finally came to rest upside down at the bottom of a narrow ravine. One wheel continued to spin as everything went silent.
Tony and Angela were enjoying their evening at home and watching television. Jonathan was upstairs working on some homework. It was getting closer to 11:00pm and Tony kept watching the front stoop for a sign of Samantha. He had told Samantha she needed to be home by 11:00pm.
As he checked his watch for the millionth time for the evening, Angela smirked, catching his attention.
"Tony, I'm sure she is going to walk through the door any second now. She's fine, okay? She's out having fun with her friends."
As the television went to a commercial, Angela stood up to use the restroom when the phone rang.
"Oh, I'll get."
"Hello?" Angela smiled into the receiver.
Her smile quickly disappeared as she looked like she'd seen a ghost. Tony glanced up and saw her facial expression change, unsure of who was on the other line. He jumped up and stood beside her as she slowly nodded her head and began writing something down on a piece of paper beside of the phone.
"Uh, yes, thank you. Thank you. We'll be right there."
Hanging up, Tony, curious over the phone call, asked Angela who it was. She was silent for a few seconds as she gathered her composure.
"Uh, Tony… That was… That was Fairfield General Hospital. Samantha was in a car accident."
"Samantha?!"
Tony ran around the room, unsure of where to go first. He bolted to the hall closet with Angela right on his heels as they grabbed their shoes and jackets and yelled for Jonathan to come downstairs.
"Jonathan, come down here right now!"
"What is it?"
"You have to come with us!"
"What for?"
"It's Sam, she's been in a car accident. We must go to the hospital."
Jonathan, stunned at the news, ran downstairs and joined Tony and Angela by the front door as everyone tried to think of what to do. They all hurried outside and got into Tony's jeep as Tony leaped into the driver's seat and took off racing towards Fairfield General. He just hoped he wasn't too late.
