Chapter 65: A Black Deep-Sea Story
In the Underwater Temple...
"Kiato, Kahono." Gio told his two children. "You two make a run for it. Go ask the Magic Knights for help."
"But we've gotten this far." Kiato protested. "Let's fall back for now, Kahono." he pulled his sister in retreat, the siblings watched in horror as their father was batted back by the cloaked kraken.
On the shore...
The Black Bulls Squad were training by the beach, only to have Noelle run out of their place after lunch after she heard the low drone from the ocean once again.
"Rhiannon-sama?" Noelle blinked, seeing Rhiannon near the seashore. "What are you doing here?"
"I'll explain later." the human incarnation of Freyja hushed the water user, just as Asta ran in. "We have incoming visitors."
"Kahono." Noelle gaped, seeing Kiato and Kahono shoot out of the water onto the shore. "What are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same thing, but this is great." Kahono beamed. "We were about to go find you."
"Did something happen at the Underwater Temple?" Asta asked.
"We wanted to ask you guys for help." Kiato spoke up.
"Please come with us." Kahono requested.
In the Underwater Temple...
"They were attacked by a sea monster?" Asta echoed, Gio and the other Temple priests were being taken care of in the infirmary.
"It was probably a guardian of the sea." Gifso explained.
"They've been around since time immemorial and are said to be the Sea God's servants." Kahono added.
"But why would a creature like that attack people from the Underwater Temple?" Noelle wondered.
"Something has disturbed the underwater mana these past few days." Gifso admitted. "Some of the creatures around here have become violet. I decided to dig into this a little further, then I saw it. I couldn't see it clearly because of the disturbance in the mana, but south of the Underwater Temple, there is a place called the 'Void of No Return'. That's where I saw the guardian of the sea letting its rage overtake it, going berserk. I'm sure the disturbance in the mana here is due to the guardian's rage. The Shine Mages tried to quell the guardian's rage with their song and dance, but..."
"They all got hurt trying to defend us." Kahono continued.
"I think I have an inkling what happened." Rhiannon noted. "Noelle. Do you remember when you asked me the reason I was by the sea?"
"Yes." Noelle nodded.
Rhiannon smiled gently, "I'm fulfilling a promise from 500 years ago... to her."
"Since our hime-sama has spoken," Yami sighed. "Noelle, can you do it?"
"If it's Rhiannon-sama's request..." Noelle relented. "I have an idea."
"Kiato, Kahono, go with them." Gifso instructed.
"Grandfather?" Kiato looked at the High Priest.
"That girl..." Gifso replied, realizing who Rhiannon was. "She's the Goddess of All Magic."
Near the 'Void of No Return'...
"It's over there, Noelle." Kahono informed, the group were nearing the entrance of the 'Void of No Return'.
"I thought the stories about the guardians of the sea and the 'Void of No Return' were just fairy tales when I was a kid." Kiato breathed staring down at the dark abyss within Noelle's 'Sea Dragon's Cradle'.
"How deep does this thing go?" Finral gawked.
"Look." Kiato barked, the condensed 'Sea Dragon's Cradle' was being attacked by mutated fish.
"What the heck are these guys?" Noelle exclaimed.
"They're just ordinary sea life mutated by the unstable mana." Rhiannon assured. She let her immense magical aura ripple outwards, forcing the mutated fish to back off.
"Is that even..." Noelle trailed. "They are so many of them." she gasped, her 'Sea Dragon's Cradle' was bombarded by attack from the other mutated fish.
"Noelle, keep going." Rhiannon instructed, only to have one of the fish monster's spears pierce through the water shell.
"Noelle." Kahono stated, she and Kiato putting on their masks.
"Leave this to us." Kiato replied.
"Song Magic: Destruction Beat." Kahono went on the offensive.
"Union Magic: Sea God's Descent." both siblings fought back with their combination spell.
A sudden stab from one of the fish monster's spears broke the water shell, sending Rhiannon, Noelle and Finral flying outwards.
Drawing on the surrounding nature mana, Noelle cast a more fortified 'Sea Dragon's Cradle' on herself and the others.
"What's that?" Finral blinked, the reunited group were met by the appearing kraken.
The kraken stopped its tentacles in mid-swing when it sensed Rhiannon's familiar aura and moved back into its lair, allowing the group passage.
In the underwater chamber...
"Ruins?" Noelle blinked, her 'Sea Dragon's Cradle' dissolving once the group landed on the ground.
"It's been too long, Nushi-chan." Rhiannon greeted the large horned fish that had emerged from the water. "I'm sorry it took this long to return."
In response, Kahono and Kiato began the ritual to calm Nushi-sama down.
"I see." Finral realized when a much smaller version of Nushi swam out from its mother's body. "The guardian was uneasy because of its baby."
"So, that sound I've been hearing was your lullaby." Noelle smiled, recognizing the infant Nushi's cries.
Finally calmed and aided by Rhiannon's 'Holy Bell' spell, Nushi-sama reverted the mutated creatures back to their original forms.
