When Damas had told me that he would keep me busy he meant it. For the first week I did nothing but look over old reports on anything and everything in the city. I looked at; water income, eco income, food productivity, trade income, everything and anything that pertained to keeping the city above water. Damas was paranoid of droughts, famine, eco, and economic issues. I guess ruling over a city will do that to you.
"Mar has yet to come back, how long was he supposed to be gone?" Damas said handing me another one of his journals. I groaned and opened the cover of it seeing his very detailed description of everything sprawled across the front page.
"I'm not even sure at this point, my brain is so numb!" I complained. "I think it's been a week now, could be eternity though." I said glaring up at him. It was only eight in the freaking morning and I didn't get to bed until twelve because I was up reading so that today I could get done. I knew I had to be nearing the end of all this shit so I was pushing myself past my limits. My antenna's were begging for mercy, I had been using them as a extra set of hands to write down in a journal of my own to simplify things. I was determined to redo all of Damas's journals to where there was a book on the economy, Eco, water, food, trade and law's of the city. Which was going to take me another week or more to finish in it of itself so I was going to just have to make notes and references. 'Book twenty page 32, Water patterns of the dessert.' I scribbled down the reference for later use.
"Go to the temple after you finish with that book." Damas said clapping a hand my shoulder.
"But I really want to finish up! I know I'm really close to being finished with all this!" I said looking up at him.
"Your right, you're on your last book as we speak."
I looked down at the book I was on and grinned ear to ear, I had already had it half way done. I doubled my efforts now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Before I knew it I was shutting the books and getting up. "Thank god!" I said in relief. "Now I'm going to go take a bath and take a nap!" I proclaimed running for the door.
"Then you'll go to the monks." Damas voluntold me. I stopped myself by grabbing onto the door frame and looking back at him.
I slumped over and rolled my head back with a frustrated sigh. "Daaaammmaasss! Why must you be such a hard ass!"
"If you wish to be future Queen you must be knowledgeable and strong. The monks wish to aid you in sharpening your skills over all." Damas scolded me.
"Damas!" I blushed. "Why must you say that! I'm not trying to be future Queen of Spargus! I don't know if Jak would ever want to go that far!"
"He will one day, now go enjoy your bath then go to the monks." He waved me off.
"And nap!?" I smiled.
"No." He frowned.
"Ahhhh! I hate this!" I growled leaving the room and heading towards me and Jak's apartment thing in the palace. I took a bath that I ended up falling asleep in for like an hour before the sound of Damas knocking woke me up. "Hmm?" I hummed sleepily.
"Don't think me an idiot Jackie, get out of there right now. The monks just called wondering where you were." Damas said through the door. I yawned and crawled out of the tub and pulled the drain. I dried off and put on my cloths consisting of; A white shirt, black scarf, goggles, black shorts, knee high boots and leather fingerless gloves. Once done I stepped out to see Damas lounging on my couch. "Took you long enough."
"I hurried you butt! Don't worry I'll make up for the lost time." I told him pushing out my wings. I walked to the balcony with Damas in pursuit.
"Good, once you come back I expect you to finish up making those improvements to my journals." Damas said with an edge of annoyance.
"Sorry, this way every subject will have it's own book which will be a lot easier for the next generation of rulers. Anyways, tootles!" I said waving to him as I got up onto the railing and jumped off. I heard Damas yell something to me over the wind but I didn't really pay attention to him. I let the freedom of the sky and the thrill of the rushing wind take me over. It was something I could never get used to, in a good way that is. I think I'm addicted or something.
I soon reached the temple and lightly descended in the open roofed room. Seem was already waiting for me expectantly as I kicked up some dust from my wing beats. I pushed up my goggles and gave him a wink. "Ello rubber wearing dudes!" I said with a grin.
"Good day sage, what took you so long?"
"Well, preparing to be a possible Queen is a very stressful job. I couldn't resist a bath and a short nap." I said scratching the back of my head sheepishly.
"You shouldn't need to as often as the rest of us. Being what you are you should be able to stay awake and function just fine for more then twenty four hours." He said turning on his heels and walking into the doors of the temple.
"Yeah but I like sleep and it's a habit you know? Beside, doesn't' mean I still don't need a little of relaxing time." I said following after him.
"I guess that is true, one day I would like to test your limits. There is still much that we have yet to learn of you and if you were to come and live with us we could give you access to all Precursor Artifacts. Then you could gain their knowledge. It would be like you are one of them." Seem said full of hope and awe. He really thought I could do great things for this planet and be like a living Precursor to guide them all. I was flattered but I kind of wanted to take care of business and chill with my boyfriend the rest of the time.
"I can still do that not living here Seem. I'm sorry, I want a life no offence. I think with what I've done and been through I deserve this. I don't mean to be selfish, I'll still learning as much as I can but I can't seclude myself in this temple and run around underground messing with old Precursor tech." I said.
"Yes, yes, you have made this clear time and time again. We shall honor your wish but I will not cease bringing it up in hopes that you will change your mind." He admitted. I sighed dramatically and continued following down the stairs. "We have called you here because we have found a old staff gun. It's a beautiful piece of art, truly a master piece crafted at the hands of our creators." Seem gushed. My interest was peaked at this so I was more then willing to do whatever it was that he and his monks wanted me to do.
It was everything Seem promised me and more. Instead of a barrel there was a crystal at the end. I looked it over and pointed it at the old statue of the Precursor. It charged up with dark energy and shot off leaving a nice hole in it's head. Seem and the monks were pretty mad at me for destroying the statue but I told them it was just a meaningless statue now. The whole day they had me test out the staff, in a safer place, and spat out random facts about old artifacts.
Eventually they brought me out this outfit that reminded me of Akashas from Queen of the Damned. You know the white one, the metal rings that went around my elbows and wrist were Precursor metal. The waist and chain holding the top up shared this same trait. It flowed really well and I enjoyed the feel of it as I walked and the handing fabric on my arms. Seem informed me that they made it for me after the Precursors left the planet. I hugged him to me in my excitement, it really was a cool outfit. After that I flew back home and went to bed.
Next morning I flew out of the balcony and flew up to a ledge of the volcanic mountain to escape Damas for the day. I know it was shady of me but I really needed a small break from everything. I ended up sleeping in the sun until just before noon. I was getting ravenous at that point and I had to go so I swooped down into my room and did what I needed to do before going down to the kitchen.
"Well well, the fairy has come down from her perch." Damas said as I was bent over in our personal fridge. I snapped right up and pivoted on my heels.
"I was hungry." I said looking left and right, anywhere that wasn't him.
"I see, once you are done eating I expect to see you in the throne room." He said taking his leave. I slumped over in relief that I didn't get in as big of trouble as I thought I would of. I turned back around and grabbed some grub. Once done eating and cleaning after myself I went to the throne room where Damas had his books and my journal along with empty books for me to start writing in. I sighed heavily and sat down and got to work looking over my reference book and grabbing the first book that I needed and a blank book.
The day seemed to go on forever and I only got one book down. Damas suggested that I went to bed but I refused to do so keeping in mind what Seem had told me the other day. I was on the second book when Damas came into his throne room with two cups of coffee.
"You know too much of one thing is a bad thing." He said handing me a cup. I took the cup not looking up at him and downed half of it in one chug.
"Yes but I have yet to have to much of this." I half mumbled flipping the pages of my journal and grabbed a book of his and brought it to me.
"I would like to disagree but I must compliment you on your dedication to this city and my son." He said sitting down.
"Yeah well I'm in love with that boy of yours and I really do like this city. Wish we could make it high tech and shit but love it none the less." I smirked looking up at him briefly.
"Technology and sand don't get along very well. You've seen what it does to the vehicles but I do share the same wish. Speaking of sand, it's showing that we're going to have yet another sand storm tonight."
"Are you fucking kidding me? That's going to cut into my work for a good hour or more!" I growled, clutching my pencil so tightly it snapped in half. I dropped the now useless pencil on the ground, grabbed another, and continued writing. "I wanted to get this done by tonight!" I pouted, looking up at Damas as I drained the rest of the cup.
"Things happen that will force you to change your plans. Flexibility is a good trait to have when ruling."
"Why don't you say all this shit to your son?" I asked putting my head in my hand.
"Because I know that you will tell him, and I have a feeling your going to be the one running this city."
"How do you know that?" I asked getting back to work.
"Because his mother was the same way." Damas said fondly.
"You know I've never heard anything about Jak...er...Mar's mother before now? What was she like?"
"Oh she was beautiful yet destructive. She really believed that she could do anything that a man can do only better. She was laid back when it came to most things except when it came down to friends or things she believed in. She had this passion in her...She was perfect." He said recalling his lover. "I was devastated when she died after giving birth to Mar. It was actually her idea to name him that, said she just knew he was going to grow up to do great things. If only she knew how right she was."
"I'm sorry about your loss Damas." I said forgetting my work and frustration in the moment of sadness.
"No apologies needed Jackie, just do both me and Mar a favor, don't die giving birth." He said smiling as he looked at the weather tracker.
"DAMAS! Stop saying suggestive things like that about me and your son! We haven't even done that yet!" I scolded him shoving my nose back into the books to hide my blush.
"Oh really? I'm going to have to have a talk with him, or is it you that I'm needing to speak too?" He teased.
"NO! It's not me!" I yelled ducking my head further down.
"Oh so your ready and willing? Good, then I just have to speak to my son." He said nearly killing me. I continued to work on the books getting another two done leaving me with only one more when Damas got on the city intercom and warned people of the incoming storm. I got up rolling my head from shoulder to shoulder and went to the balcony that over looked the city. Damas followed me like he always did when I put up a barrier over the entire city. I know it seems like a lot but I didn't have to have it so strong. At least not right off the bat, I could allow some sand to come in as long as it wasn't bad enough to hurt anyone seriously.
I closed my eyes and pushed out the shield slowly already feeling the sand riding on the wind. I didn't stop until the gun out by the ocean was protected. Once the shield was out I sat down on the rail and closed my eyes. I could feel most of the sand hit my shield as I sat there. The people of the city were still out and about but kept a eye out on the shield or me myself as they did so in case my shield fails. "Your doing a good job, the storm should be dying down in a few minutes." Damas said. I nodded at him and continued to look up at my shield. The storm ended up lasting another three hours despite what Damas said. The second it was safe for me to put down my shield I did and went to my apartment and flopped down on the couch.
The next morning I woke up and finished the last book. Damas put up all his books in his room and I took mine back to my apartment where I put them on a bookshelf. I was givin the rest of the day to do what ever I wanted so I took a bath and slept. The next day I walked to the beach and looked out into the waters.
"Hey there Jackie, what you doing looking out into the ocean with that look on your face?" Sig said standing behind me.
"What look?" I asked turning and squinting up at him.
"That look of contemplation." He specified.
"Oh...didn't realized I had that face but I was thinking of something." I admitted returning to my examination of the rolling waves.
"Oh and what would that be?"
"You know that octopus monster thing? Well I was just thinking that it would be a fun thing to kill with Jak. I could be going in head on while Jak could shot it with the gun." I said smiling ear to ear.
"You're wanting to take on the Kraken? I would say your crazy but I've seen you two take down bigger and meaner things. So your wanting to kill something with Jak? Sounds like a man's dream date."
"Well, I'm bored and I really want to know what's on that fucking Island!" I huffed looking at the island that was passed the Kraken. All who has ever tried getting near it was killed off and I was getting very irritated with him.
"Really? Well, I think that will be one hell of a fight to witness." Sig smirked down at me shaking his head.
"Oh hell yes, if only he would have a slight chance against me. Then it will be really exciting to watch but oh well. I guess you can't have everything."
"I wouldn't underestimate him if I were you. That things got a bad temper." Sig said.
"Don't worry Sig, I'll be fine."
"I don't doubt it, just saying for you to be prepared. Anyways, I'm going to go out and knock a few Maunder heads in. There like cockroaches, they refuse to die but that's what I love about them!" Sig yelled out in utter happiness. I quirked an eyebrow at him before shaking my head.
"Your a loon Sig, your a fucking loon." I said dryly looking out at the ocean.
"If I'm a loon then your just flat out insane."
"I'm not going to argue with that, have fun." I said dismissing him. He didn't say another word and walked off toward the garage. I eventually got back up from the sand and went back to the palace. I was lounging around on the couch when my communicator buzzed. I flipped it open and said hello.
"Hey." Jak's voice said tiredly on the other side.
"Oh hey Jak! How are you?" I asked perking up.
"HORRIBLE! That Krew had it in for us even in death! He had us poisoned Jackie, POISONED! Now we need to win this stupid combat racing championship or were all dead!" Daxter yelled so I could hear him.
"Poisoned...dead...COMBAT RACING!? JAK WHY DIDN'T YOU TAKE ME! I COULD OF HELPED! WHERE THE HELL IS SAMOS?"
"We don't know, said something about retirement. No one has heard word of him since then. Calm down Jackie, we're fine. This racing isn't so tough." Jak assured me.
"Yeah, okay then. If that's the case then you won't mind me coming down to cheer you on then." I said.
"No, stay home and.." Jak tried to protest but I hung up the phone and ran to the balcony. I jumped over the rails and free fell down until I was just a few feet off the ground. I flew up past the rooftops of Spargus and flew directly to the city's garage.
"Oh Kleiver?...Kleiver?" I asked coming into the back of the garage.
"He's not here..." Vegor said hopping onto the work table.
"Oh...hello Vegor. Where is he?" I asked looking around.
"Haven city, decided to go and compete in the combat racing. Of coarse he left me here, alone..." Vegor sighed.
"Great, was going ask him to let me borrow a ride so that I could get to Haven city. What about Sig?"
"Well, according to this..." He said taking out a small watch like device that had a small moving yellow dot on it. "He should be coming in right about now." He said just before the gates opened.
"Sig!" I yelled waving my arms about as I got infront of the car.
"Woah! You lost your marbles Jackie? You know I could of hit you, sand can be slippery!" Sig said standing up sourly.
"Yeah yeah, look! I need to go to Haven city. Jak got poisoned by Krew and is now competing in the races. I want to go and be his back up and see if I can't just cure him. You down?" I explained rasing an eye at him knowing he wouldn't say no to a challenge.
"The combat racing? As in more then just doing laps around a track? Of coarse I'm in! Those yellow bellys don't know a thing about real combat racing like we wastelanders do! Come on and get your six in here!" He said sitting back down and patting the passenger seat.
"No body cares about me..." Vegor sighed in dejection.
"Shut up, if Damos had his way you would of been trialed to the arena. Luckily I stepped in and saved your ass. Come on Sig, punch it like you mean it." I ordered pointing out towards the desert. Sig obliged making the sand fly behind us raining on Vegors pitty party.
"So whats the plan once we get there?" Sig asked as were tore up the land shooting straight for Haven city.
"Fuck up EVERYTHING! We're not going to be there to win, being last across the finish line is going to be cool with me. We need to be focused on taking out the competition. Blow out the flames so that Jak doesn't have to take the heat." I explained.
"Sounds like a plan to me! Don't think we'll ever be rolling in last place though!" Sig said.
"Whatever happens happens, what eco does this one take?" I asked.
"Red eco, why?" He asked looking at me.
"Cause," I smirked reaching a hand onto the booster button. I focused a large amount of Red energy before shooting it into the vehical through the button. "I'm not a very patient woman today." The vehicle tripled in speed making Sig yell in his suprise.
"Holly leaping lizard! Warn me before you do that! Geez!" He screamed at me.
"Sorry...now let's see how fast we can really go." I said unbuckling myself. I climbed up onto the back of the vehicle.
"Jackie! Your going crazy on me!" Sig said flicking his eyes back onto me then the road several times. I paid him no mind as I allowed my wings to come out. Then through my hands I ejected blue eco into the vehicles system. It sputtered and slowed to a stop.
"Damn it Jackie, what did you do!" Sig yelled at me.
"Motifiyed this snail." I smirked as the tail pipes glowed a briliant blue. "Hit the gas Sig." I ordered. He shook his head and did as told.
"WOAH! Now that's what I call speed!" he said, hooting. "At this rate, we'll be there by tomorrow morning!" he exclaimed, looking up at the sun.
"Lets speed it up a bit shall we?" I asked fluttering my wings causeing a white blur to form behind me. Our speed increased some more. I was at my max right now. I couldn't give us another inch. My hair was pushed straight back not even getting a chance to flutter back in my face. I closed my eyes and meditated to keep the flow of eco steady. It had been so long since the last time I had actually used this much at a time.
Pretty soon it was just me alone in the dark thinking of only one thing. Getting my boyfreind cured and back home.
