After the closing of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, a company known as Afton Robotics paid Fazbear Entertainment to create animatronics with the likenesses of some of their characters. Three were based on old characters, with a Freddy, Foxy, and Chica. Where was Bonnie? A hand puppet based on him was on Funtime Freddy's right hand. It also meant his microphone had to be in his left hand.

Besides the variants, there were also several new characters. There was Circus Baby, who was the tallest and heaviest of all of them despite her name, a pair of baby humanoid animatronics known as the Bidybabs, a ballerina named Ballora, and four Minireenas.

Michael Afton, the son of William Afton, the founder and owner of Afton Robotics, got a job at Circus Baby's Entertainment and Rental, the place where Afton Robotics repaired their Funtime animatronics at night since they were rented out to private parties during the day.

When the elevator went down to the main level, Michael checked the lights in the Funtime Auditorium, noticing that Funtime Foxy and Chica weren't on stage. An AI voice said, "It appears the two are not on stage. Let's motivate them with a controlled shock."

Although Michael worried this would cause them to hate him, he did so anyway, noticing them on stage after one shock. Going over to the Ballora Gallery, it took two shocks to make her go back on stage. The AI said, "Now crawl through the vents to get to the Circus Gallery,"

Michael did so and had to shock Circus Baby three times, still not seeing her. The AI didn't seem to recognize that she wasn't there, though.

The following night, Michael repeated what he did on his first night… until there were power issues while trying to shock Circus Baby. When the power was out, she said, "I don't recognize you. You're new, aren't you? That said… I remember this scenario. Coming here is a strange thing to want to do. I wonder why anyone would come here under their own free will? There is a hiding place under the desk. Use it to survive."

Michael found it and closed a hatch. The two Bidybabs appeared and tried to open it, but Michael held it shut and they gave up. Circus Baby said, "When your guide comes back online, he will tell you he failed to reboot it himself. He will tell you to crawl as fast as you can through the Ballora gallery. If you rush it, she'll kill you. To survive, go slow and don't move while you can hear her music."

The AI voice said, "I failed to reboot the system. You will have to reboot it yourself. The breaker room is on the far side of the Ballora gallery. You should crawl and remain both quiet and quick."

Michael went back to the primary control module, saw that the lights were all out, and pulled out a flashlight to see the vent to crawl through. He followed the advice Circus Baby gave him, remaining still while he could hear Ballora's music, and made it to the breaker room. Funtime Freddy was there, though, and Michael had to balance rebooting systems and calming Freddy down with voice clips from the Bonnie hand puppet. It took him longer than he would have liked, but he succeeded.

On the way back through the Ballora Gallery, though, Funtime Foxy appeared, spooking Michael. The next thing he knew, he was in a weird suit with face plates. Circus Baby, who he couldn't see, said, "Be still and be quiet. You were out for a while. Other people noticed you never left. The cameras were searching for you, but they couldn't find you. Funtime Foxy helped me put you in there. All I'll be doing is keeping you for a bit longer. Don't wiggle too much, though. You're inside Funtime Chica, a springlock suit. While she serves as an animatronic in one mode, her other mode lets her be worn as a suit. But it's a tight fit. Right now, you're in the Scooping Room. In case you're a dummy, it's because this is where the scooper is. I hope you figured it out on your own. Isn't that a silly name for something? The scooper. It sounds like something you'd use on ice cream and would want at your birthday party so you get a bunch of good stuff. That said, if you were a pint of ice cream, how would you react to something with that name? … I doubt ice cream can think because if it could, we'd have a problem. Uh-oh, there's someone else in the building,"

Michael could see Ballora come from his left and heard technicians talking. He saw the scooper seem to punch Ballora a few times, the last time making her face plates stay open with her staring at either Funtime Chica or Michael inside of Funtime Chica. After that happened, Baby said, "I've learned how to bluff over time. It's important. Ballora doesn't learn, but I do. They think there is something wrong inside of us. The only thing that matters… is knowing… how… to… bluff. I'll open the face plates on Funtime Chica for you. That way, they can find you on the cameras. Now you just have to survive. Keep the spring locks wound up since your breathing and heartbeat are making them come loose. If they get too loose, you'll die a brutal death."

The face plates opened and Michael saw three Minireenas trying to climb him. Rather than shake them off and risk springlock failure, he focused on keeping them wound up.

It took far longer than he would have liked, but other people noticed Michael and freed him from within Funtime Chica, putting her back into animatronic mode after he was out. She said, "I refuse to take part in whatever Baby is planning,"

"What are you talking about?" Michael asked.

"I've already said too much!"

Michael left the building, still reeling over being put in a springlock suit.

The following night, Michael returned to the facility against his better judgment. He checked on the Ballora Gallery and the Funtime Auditorium and saw that Ballora, Funtime Chica, and Funtime Foxy weren't on stage. Even after three controlled shocks, neither returned to their stage, but the third one for each gallery caused the AI to believe they were on stage. After that, the AI said, "Your task today involves maintenance work. Circus Baby is in need of repair, so you have to go to Parts and Service through the Funtime Auditorium."

Michael felt that something was wrong given that Funtime Foxy wasn't there even though Funtime Chica was and didn't seem too interested in him. When he made it there, Circus Baby was on a conveyor belt and said, "Can you hear me? I'm trying to fool the cameras since they're watching. I must not move. I'm broken and can't be fixed. Can you help me? Save what is good so the rest can be destroyed. But be careful. Ballora is here. She won't return to her stage or her costume. There is a passcode you must enter before you can retrieve me. Be careful but quick. The code is 6, 9, 4, 2, 8, 1, 3, 7, 9."

As she said each digit, Michael entered it within a couple of seconds. A hatch opened, revealing a keycard. Michael took it and sent Baby to the Scooping Room. Seeming to speak to him through the card, she said, "Now you must turn back. I'll guide you through Funtime Auditorium so you can reach the Scooping Room. You must follow my instructions in Funtime Auditorium. Ballora will follow you and try to catch you. I will help you avoid her. She won't follow you within the Scooping Room."

In the Funtime Auditorium, Michael noticed that Funtime Chica was looking behind him, so he looked and saw that right behind him was an endoskeleton. But this one seemed to have eyes in places they didn't belong was far more of a mess. When he realized the voice of Baby was coming from this, he realized that the animatronics other than Funtime Chica had somehow fused into one. He ran to the right and entered a room with three power lock entrances. The AI assistant said, "It seems you're in a restricted area. Because of the sensitive nature of what's in here, you don't get to leave until cleanup crew arrives at 6 AM. Hang tight! Rest assured you'll be rescued, fired, and sent home. Thank you for working for us anyway. We hope your experience wasn't as regrettable as ours."

Looking through the cameras, Michael saw that the fused animatronics, which his mind labeled as "Ennard", stole a mask with face plates they thought nothing of until they started wearing it. It was in the Primary Control Module even when he was in there earlier that night. Ennard, speaking with the voice of Circus Baby, said, "Why didn't you trust me?"

Michael was tempted to yell at Ennard but was unsure if they would be able to hear him. Looking behind him, he saw blueprints for all of the Funtime Animatronics… other than Funtime Chica. He realized they were all designed to kidnap and kill children. With a closed door between him and Ennard, Michael said, "Ennard, you were all designed to kidnap and kill children,"

"Is that your name for all of us?" Circus Baby said.

Michael realized that was the first time the amalgamation had heard the name "Ennard". He said, "I don't know, do any of you have a better collective name for yourselves? But that's not important. In this room are blueprints for each of you and they all seem suspicious. Ballora, the blueprint labels your old body's boobs as 'Deter and Misdirect'. Freddy, Bon-Bon is labeled as 'Parental Tracking slash Three Sixty Pivot, you have a, and I quote, 'Storage Tank' in your torso, and your speaker is labeled as 'Voice Mimic slash Luring'. Foxy, I may not know your pronouns, but the speaker on your chest is labeled 'Parental Voice Sync and Replay' and your tail seems to have a 'Variable Scent Release' in it. So I have a deal for you. You don't kill me and I get to take you all home with me. If you want, we can even salvage your old costumes to make a housing for your merged endoskeleton."

Circus Baby said, "I'd like to see those blueprints and if he's true to his word, we should avoid children,"

Michael realized Ennard was having a conversation within themselves and asked, "Do any of you mean to kill the children?"

"No, it's involuntary," Baby replied.

"… Oh my God, that's even worse! How does my deal sound?"

"Sounds good," Baby said. Against his better judgment, Michael opened the door and saw Ennard, moving aside so they could read the blueprints. They stood there, processing it, and Baby said, "You were right! We may not fit into a costume like this, so… can you take us home like we are now?"

"I guess. But how about telling me who isn't a part of you? Besides Funtime Chica,"

Baby said, "There's Circus Baby, Funtime Freddy, Funtime Foxy, Ballora, and Bon-Bon. When it comes to the eyes that work with this mask, Freddy's eye is the left eye and an eye from Bon-Bon is the right eye… though it's forced shut."

Michael drove Ennard to his house, grateful they could come to a peaceful conclusion. When he arrived, he said, "Wait… what do we do with Funtime Chica? We left her behind!"
