Back in the Encanto, another celebration was in order.

"To the roc!" Someone toasted.

"To the roc!" Everyone cheered.

A big party was set up with the entire kingdom in attendance to celebrate the completion of the roc that would chase off the puss moths once they arrived.

"Alright, everyone!" Remix shouted. "Who's ready to get down?"

Remix turned the tables and played some upbeat music.

"Here's how we party with our peeps!"

(Cue: "Footloose" Glee Cast Version)

Been working so hard

I'm punching my card

Eight hours, for what?

Oh, tell me what I got

I've got this feeling

That time's just holding me down

The warriors even showed the Encanto the way they danced where they were from, and each had their own way of doing it alone or with a partner.

Mace spun his wife and held her in a dip as they danced together in their special way.

"You're so light on your feet, Mace." Brenda said.

"For you, Baby, I'd dance through fire." Mace said, giving his wife a kiss.

Myra and Kade rolled their eyes, seeing their parents going gaga for each other like a couple of teenagers.

I'll hit the ceiling

Or else I'll tear up this town

So now I gotta cut loose

Footloose

Kick off the Sunday shoes

Please, Louise

Pull me off of my knees

Jack, get back

Come on before we crack

Lose your blues

Everybody cut footloose

The new music was definitely a lot different than what the people of Encanto usually played, but it was a time for trying new things. For what was probably the first time ever for most everyone in the Encanto, the people felt like they could just let loose, have fun, and not worry about the Puss Moths harming them.

Garrett and Mariposa set up a long stick as they and some guests began a game of Limbo.

"How low can you go?" people chanted.

"You go, Princess!" Garrett cheered Mirabel as she took a turn, and made it!

"I did it!" Mirabel cheered.

Everyone was laughing and having such a good time. The kids were playing Ring Around the Rosie and dancing with the grownups too.

Pedro picked a pretty flower and gently tugged Kara's dress to get her attention, and presented the little marigold to her.

"Oh, aren't you sweet? Thank you, Pedro." Kara said, accepting the flower.

She gave Pedro a kiss and picked him up to dance with him, making the little boy laugh.

"Who's your new boyfriend, Kara?" Anakin teased.

"Not cute, Anakin. Not cute." Kara responded.

Meanwhile, Tech, not being the kind to enjoy large crowds, mostly stood in the corner, not doing much. This concerned his siblings and his friends a bit. He'd said he had a crush on a girl, but none of them were sure exactly who he was. But then, Hunter spotted someone approaching Tech.

"Hey, is the princess doing what I think she's doing?" Hunter said, elbowing Carmine.

Mila was, in fact, the one who approached Tech. It was clear to her he wasn't going to make the first move anytime soon, and she refused to wait around like a princess in a tower awaiting a knight in shining armor to rescue her.

"Tech, what's a handsome fellow like you doing here all alone?" Mila said.

Tech was nervous for a bit.

"Crowds were never a place I was very comfortable in." Tech said. "It has been that way since I was very small, and just one reason I was not a fan of the circus."

Mila looked at Tech and could sense he was a little nervous.

"You know, my little brother Pedro gets nervous around crowds too. He's anxious. But, what usually helps him to calm down is to have a special friend stay by his side so he knows he won't get lost in the crowd. Just look at him now."

Mila motioned to her little brother, who was laughing as Kara spun him around. Tech looked at Pedro and saw how he looked happy because he was being comforted by someone who wouldn't let him go while they were surrounded by a crowd. It wasn't that surprising Pedro would feel secure with Kara.

Kara always had that effect with children; she'd inherited that trait from her father, who was also sharing a dance with some of the children of Encanto, them laughing as he gave some of them piggyback rides and they were all laughing. He was basically a child magnet.

"Maybe you just need someone to hold your hand in the crowd." Mila said, taking Tech's hand.

Tech froze again as his cheeks turned red.

"Are you… asking me to dance?" Tech asked, putting together Mila's anti-verbal cues, as well as the fact that so many others were dancing with a partner now.

"What do you think?" Mila batted her lashes.

Tech didn't need to give it much more thought. So, he slowly got up from his spot and walked with her. Members of the royal family looked and saw Mila with Tech walking to the dancefloor. None of them could believe their eyes; they'd tried setting Mila up with men before, but this was the first time they'd actually seen her in a man's arms, and she wasn't punching him or telepathically throwing him into a tree.

Tech held his arms around Mila, and the two of them began dancing. They looked at each other and each thought of how they felt about each other. Everyone else in the Encanto thought Tech was a warrior, but Mila knew he was a former acrobat from a slavery based circus, and sooner or later her family would find out. And once they did, Mila was sure her family would never approve. A princess and a circus boy? According to many royal families' rules, their love could never be.

But in their heads, and their hearts, Mila and Tech were both thinking the same thing as they held each other and felt something neither of them could explain with any amount of science or logic.

Tech:

You know I want you

It's not a secret I try to hide

I know you want me

So don't keep sayin' our hands are tied

You claim it's not in the cards

And fate is pullin' you miles away

And out of reach from me

But you're here in my heart

So who can stop me if I decide

That you're my destiny?

Tech couldn't deny it any longer. He was falling for Mila, but she was a princess. It would be impossible for them to be together if her family knew where he was really from. But, something inside him told him it didn't have to be impossible.

What if we rewrite the stars?

Say you were made to be mine

Nothing could keep us apart

You'd be the one I was meant to find

It's up to you, and it's up to me

No one can say what we get to be

So why don't we rewrite the stars?

Maybe the world could be ours

Tonight

Mila, on the other hand, knew it would be difficult to convince her family that Tech was the one for her. She was the one to ask him to dance, not the other way around, and how many royal families do you know who would approve of their children marrying a former circus performer?

Mila:

You think it's easy

You think I don't wanna run to you

But there are mountains

And there are doors that we can't walk through

I know you're wondering why because we're able to be

Just you and me within these walls

But when we go outside, you're gonna wake up and see

That it was hopeless after all

No one can rewrite the stars

How can you say you'll be mine?

Everything keeps us apart

And I'm not the one you were meant to find

It's not up to you

It's not up to me

When everyone tells us what we can be

How can we rewrite the stars?

Say that the world can be ours

Tonight

But as crazy and difficult as it seemed, both Tech and Mila, as they danced, could only think of one thing. They desired to be together more than anything, and they were brought together for a reason. Of all people whose arms Mila could've fallen into, it had to be Tech for a reason, right?

Both:

All I want is to fly with you

All I want is to fall with you

So just give me all of you

Mila:

It feels impossible

Tech:

It's not impossible

Mila:

Is it impossible?

Both:

Say that it's possible

How do we rewrite the stars?

Say you were made to be mine?

Nothing can keep us apart

'Cause you are the one I was meant to find

It's up to you

And it's up to me

No one can say what we get to be

And why don't we rewrite the stars?

Changing the world to be ours

As wonderful a dream as it appeared, Mila couldn't deny she worried their love could never be. She couldn't hide the secret of her friends' origins forever. And that included Tech. But, there was one thing she knew she refused to miss doing with Tech before her family had the chance to object to their love.

Mila:

You know I want you

It's not a secret I try to hide

Mila slowly leaned closer to Tech, who felt a little surprised at first with the motion she made, but he found himself mimicking her actions.

But I can't have you

We're bound to break and my hands are tied

And before either of them knew it, Mila was pressing her lips to Tech's in her first and most passionate kiss.

No one could believe it when they saw this! Mila's family always hoped she would find someone, but they didn't expect it would've taken letting her leave the Encanto to search for helpers for her to finally find a man she would kiss instead of intimidating.

Tech's family couldn't believe it either. In all the times Tech had met women during their time in the circus, he never interacted with any of them the way he did with Mila. It appeared somehow, something about her just made Tech able to open up and feel more comfortable in a social setting, as well as to give him his very first kiss.

"Guess who's coming to dinner, Abuela." Isabela teased.

"Si," said Queen Alma. "I was beginning to worry our Milagro would never choose a man to wed. And a warrior such as him will make a perfect husband for her."

Tech felt an amazing sensation run through him as he felt Mila kissing him, and neither of them wanted to stop. But, eventually Mila gently pulled away to let Tech breathe. Well, once he remembered how.

"Tech! Don't forget to breathe." Mila said, prompting Tech to take a breath.

"What just happened?" Tech exhaled.

"You forgot how to breathe for a moment." Mila said. "And, it looks like it's been made official how we feel for how we feel for one another."

Tech smiled a bit. "Hmm. Perhaps we could make sure it truly is official?"

Mila giggled when she realized what Tech was getting at. And Tech kissed Mila again.

Meanwhile, Dolores went back to her patrol to listen for any sign of the Puss Moths.

"Dolores," said Felix, coming up to check on his daughter. "Any signs of los enemigos?"

"Let me check, Papa." Dolores said. She raised a lantern to ask the patrol farther out if there was any sign. All of them raised their lights still, signaling no sign. "Nope. Nada yet."

"Giddyup, horsie! Hyah!" exclaimed Cecilia as Maybelle gave her a ride on her back.

"Alright, Cecilia. Let someone else have a turn." Maybelle said, letting the girl off her back. "Who's next?"

All the kids rushed in, wanting a turn to ride on the horses.

The former circus folks were all very happy tonight, especially seeing as the Encanto was welcoming them to share their traditions with them, and they were getting their own houses soon. It seemed they'd finally found somewhere they could belong after escaping that circus.

Mila walked over to the others, Tech in her right arm.

"Hey, everyone. Having a good time tonight?" Mila said.

The others all said they were definitely having a great time.

"You really did something, Princess." Myra said. "Proving to your kingdom the power of Girl Power. Fight the power! Respect."

"I don't think I could've done it without you guys." Mila said. "You know, you may have spent a long time using your skills for performing, but I'd say you guys proved yourselves true warriors."

That got the circus folk worried though.

"Yeah, but I still feel kinda bad about lying to everyone." Anakin said.

"Technically, we did tell them the truth that we were homeless before we arrived here. We merely left out how we became homeless." Tech said.

"But, Anakin is right." Mila said. "I started this whole thing, and I can't lie to my family forever. Sooner or later, my father will see the truth in the future or Dolores will eavesdrop and blab to everyone. Better I come clean now than wait for everyone to find out and complicate things. Besides, circus performers or not, I don't think they'd be too mad if I just explain that it was a misunderstanding and the real reason you guys were on the streets."

So, Mila decided she was going to come clean at last. She stepped up to where Remix was deejaying, and asked if she could have the floor.

"Hello. Can I get everyone's attention, please?" Mila said as Remix slowly turned down the music.

Everyone then saw Mila was the one who quieted things down.

"First of all, I wanted to say how grateful I am to everyone who came together to put together this roc I believe will solve our puss moth problem for good, and all of you have proven you're each a lot stronger than you realize. And girls, you should let this be a lesson that your gender doesn't determine your abilities. You can be whatever you want. Teachers, doctors, engineers. Anything men can do, women can do too. You all have talents for a reason, and our friends, the warriors, serve as proof of that. They've helped us so much since they arrived. Can we give them a hand?"

People clapped and cheered for the warriors, and then Mila continued.

"Each of these warriors is talented in his or own way, and they've all proven themselves great friends to us, as well as family. They've helped us, and we're helping them by giving them a home. Except…"

Everyone seemed to freeze at that last word Mila said.

"There's something I neglected to tell all of you about the warriors I should've come clean about a long time ago."

However, while Mila was giving her speech, Dolores spotted many lanterns being lifted and being turned on and off to signal something was coming.

And just before Mila could come clean about her friends, the loud horns blew to signal something was coming, which had everyone panicking at first, until Mirabel flew up and whistled to get everyone's attention.

"Battle stations, everyone!" Mirabel ordered, and she got everyone to get into position.

However, it wasn't the Puss Moths that burst into the Encanto. It was a familiar bunch of carriages the warriors recognized all too well. The circus children all screamed when they spotted the carriages, prompting Boba, Omega, Ahsoka, and Myra to grab the younger kids and run to hide them while the grownups all scattered.

The people of Encanto, however, were unsure what was happening, as the carriages stopped and out came an older man dressed like a ringmaster.

"Greetings and salutation, everyone." Palpatine said. "I am the great Sheev Palpatine, and I will cut to the chase. I am on the search for some circus performers who caused a bit of trouble for me by running off in the middle of a big important tour."

Palpatine had his surviving men show a poster of the performers he was looking for, and the people quickly noticed they looked just like the warriors. Mila looked at this man and how quick her friends were to run and hide. She knew exactly who this had to be!

"Mr… Palpatine, was it?" said Mila. "I am Princess Milagro Madrigal, and I demand you leave this kingdom at once! There is no one you are looking for here."

"Greetings, your highness. I beg to differ on what you said, however." Palpatine chuckled. "My scouts have searched through many places, and security footage had them heading in the direction of this kingdom from where they were last seen. Now, tell me where they are."

"Those look just like the warriors." said one man.

"Warriors? Ha!" Palpatine said. "These are the finest circus performers I have had, and they are in violation of their contract."

"You mean enslavement!" Mila said. She looked to the others. "Listen up, everyone. That's what I wanted to come clean about. The warriors really came from a circus, but it's not what you think. That man kidnapped all of them and forced them to be his slaves for years! He's a criminal!"

"You mean to tell me our entire battle strategy was concocted by a bunch of clowns?" Camilo said.

"They're more than circus people!" Mila said. "And technically, Comedia and Emeraldi were the only clowns in the bunch, but they have brains."

"Mila, tell me it isn't true that you lied to us." Mirabel said.

Mila looked down and said, "I wish I could, Prima. I'm really sorry I didn't tell you sooner. If you would just let me explain-"

"This couldn't happen at a worse time!" said one man. "The last leaf is about to fall!"

"We haven't collected enough food for the Puss Moths!" Isabela pointed out.

"If Mariverde finds out what we almost did-!" Camilo said.

"Mariverde is not going to find out!" Queen Alma said. "We are going to hide all of this and pretend nothing ever happened. Those circus folk were never here. So, Mila. Tell your friends to come out and leave!"

"No." Mila said, shocking everyone.

"Que acabas de decir?" (Translation: "What did you just say?")

"I said no. I'm not sending my friends back into a life of slavery. I'm not the villain here. These people helped us, and they were on the streets! Don't you remember that? Besides that, the roc will work."

"I never thought I would see the day a princess would put herself before the very life of her kingdom."

"What? Did you not hear anything I just said?!"

"The point is, Milagro, you lied to us."

"If you would just let me explain-"

"Mila, for once in your life, keep your talkative mouth cerrado!"

But instead, Mila angrily spread her wings out and flew up as the ground started to shake, and it got worse as Mila's anger grew.

"NO! I've kept my mouth shut too long! If anyone should be ashamed it's you! All my life, you've constantly told me that because I'm a girl nothing I say matters, that because I'm a girl, I have to let men do all the work and make all the discoveries. Well, in case you haven't noticed, the men would be dead if it weren't for women keeping them in line and stopping them from making stupid decisions. But it seems you are the woman to make all the stupid decisions."

The royal family's castle, as well as the land surrounding them started to crack, prompting some of the warriors to flee their hiding spots to avoid getting crushed.

"Milagro, you are stepping out of line-"

"Or maybe I'm the only one who's actually perfectly in line! I love this family, I love this kingdom! You're the one who doesn't care. I create inventions to help this kingdom, and what do you do? You never let me build them, and you encourage everyone else to reject my ideas because I'm a young lady, and you lecture me because I'd rather make smart decisions than spend my time worrying about what I'll wear and breaking a nail. If this kingdom suffers under Mariverde's hand, it'll be because of you and your closed-mindedness!"

And that was when the cracks gave in! The whole kingdom started to shake and crumble to pieces. People started to run and to scream as trees and buildings collapsed. And in the chaos of it all, Palpatine had his men recapture all the circus performers and placed them all in chains and into the trailers. But it wasn't just performers they targeted. They grabbed Mila and threw her in too! And while everyone else was so busy panicking about the quaking disaster, Palpatine took the chance to flee with his victims.

Eventually, all the shaking came to a stop. And all the people were devastated by what became of their beloved home. Many homes were severely damaged, the castle collapsed, and many of the crops were buried under rubble.

"Oh my gosh!" Mirabel said. "Our home."

People were gasping and crying when they saw what'd become of their beloved home.

Bruno and Alicia picked up the twins once they made sure they were both okay. But, they looked around and realized their firstborn was nowhere to be found.

"Mila?" Bruno called. "Has anyone seen Mila?"

"I think a better question is what happened to that man Mila said was a criminal." Alicia said.

"Those people clearly came to their senses and left." Queen Alma said. "Now, we must continue to gather food for the Puss Moths."

"How can you think of food at a time like this?!" Mirabel said. "Besides, look at this place! Our crops are buried, our home is a mess!"

"Isabela, do you think you can make enough plants grow in time?" Alma said.

"Si, Abuela." Isabela said. Except, when she spun around to make plants grow… nothing happened. "Huh?"

She tried again, and nothing happened again. So, Luisa tried to lift some of the heavier pieces of rubble, but found them to be really, really heavy! The other Madrigals tried using their powers, only to find, to their horror, none of them were working!

"My gift! It's gone!" Isabela cried.

"So is mine!" Camilo exclaimed.

Everyone started to panic more.

"Milagro! What did you do?" Queen Alma called. "Where are you?"

Mirabel didn't know why, but something inside her snapped.

"Abuela, that's enough!" Mirabel said. "Mila may have lied to us about the warriors, but I can't stand here and watch you blame her for every problem that happens anymore! Mila's true gift was always the fact that she's always coming up with new ideas. You're always telling us to use our gifts to help others, but when Mila comes so happily to share hers to help everyone, you tell her 'shut up, leave the smart stuff to the men.' So which is it, Abuela?"

"Mommy? Daddy? Grandpa?" called a familiar voice.

And out came Gabby. But she wasn't alone. Lamenta, Turha, Kade, Myra, Ahsoka, Diamond, and Carousella all came out too, looking for their friends and family. It appeared Palpatine missed a few performers.

"What are you still doing here?" said one woman. "Shouldn't you have left with the rest of your lying circus clan?"

"Um, we're okay, thanks for asking." Myra said sarcastically.

"What happened to the others?" Ahsoka said.

"A bunch of really big guys put big heavy chains on them," said Rosella. "And then they threw them in the big carriages."

"What?!" the kids gasped.

"How could you all let Palpatine take them?!" Ahsoka said. "Do you have any idea what we all went through because of him?!"

"That doesn't change the fact that you and Mila lied to all of us." Queen Alma said.

"Excuse me, Your Majesty." said Lamenta. "But, Mila was actually going to come clean tonight. She was about to tell you what really happened, but then Palpatine jumped in and ruined everything. Yes, Mila lied about us being warriors, but she didn't lie about us being homeless."

"Yeah," said Carousella. "Do any of you have any idea how exactly we became homeless and why were on the run all together?"

"No," said Alma. "If you must, enlighten us, niñas."

And so, the children did explain to everyone. They told the whole kingdom about how Palpatine was a criminal who'd been kidnapping people for years and trafficking them across the world, forcing them to be performers, and placing shock collars on them so they couldn't escape or disobey him. And many of the children were born into the circus life and had shock collars placed on them when they were babies. Over the years, when Palpatine realized his performers were getting too old to perform, he had them executed.

For years, the performers, young and old suffered, being forced to learn all kinds of acts for the circus, never having any time to rest, little to eat, and the children never got proper schooling… at least not until Garrett and Mariposa were kidnapped and added to the bunch, one of them being a certified teacher. And even though the performers had powers of their own, Palaptine's men were very powerful, and part of the shock collars' design blocked their powers. But during a private meeting, the performers all agreed they'd had enough of Palaptine's tyranny, and so they concocted a plan to destroy the collars and escape.

"Even though we escaped, our problems weren't totally over." Myra said. "We didn't know where we were headed, we didn't have a ton of money to get to our old homes even if someone else didn't move into them by now"

"The only thing we could do was look for jobs, and then we met Mila. We thought she was a talent scout, and she thought we were fighters probably because she saw us taking down a gang that was trying to rob the restaurant where we met her." Ahsoka continued. "And we didn't realize the misunderstanding until we got here. But then that whole thing with the roc happened, and we realized we could be warriors."

"Mila saw something in all of us." Carousella said. "She didn't see us as slaves. Mila actually tried to help all of us, and now our families are being forced back into slavery because you chased Mila off, and you're too much of a bunch of cowards to fight against the bullies you know as Puss Moths."

"If you want us to leave, then fine!" Goldie said. "Those Puss Moths can take you all for all I care! But we're gonna save our families, even if that means we'll just be back on the streets."

So, without another word, the children all started to take off, no one making a sound.

"If anyone wants us to stay," said Ahsoka. "Speak now, or forever hold your peace."

Still no one said anything.

"Butterflies as the symbol of this kingdom?" Myra said. "It should really be the opossum, which plays dead instead of fighting back, much like you all apparently do."

And off the children went, not knowing how long it would be until they saw their families again.

As if on cue as the night hit, the last leaf began to fall.

Mirabel looked around at the Encanto at all the damage that was created. People were beginning immediately to clean up what they could. Without the royal family's magic, this would make quite a few jobs, including gathering more food, very difficult. But, something else was eating at Mirabel. She was a princess, and it was her job to protect her kingdom, but… she was also a member of the family, and so was Mila. Mila was her cousin, and as such, Mirabel should've been there for her and listened to what she had to say before judging her.

But now, Mila was gone, in the hands of a slaver, a hardened criminal, all because Abuela made Mila angry, which was likely the cause of the magic being destroyed. The kingdom was created by a wish of a miracle made when Queen Alma lost her husband, but now it was destroyed when she mistreated a member of the family. Mirabel could've stepped in and insisted Abuela listen to Mila, but she didn't. Mirabel blamed herself for everything. She decided she needed to find a way to make things right. If not for the kingdom, for what remained of the two cousins' relationship.

Mirabel dug through the rubble of the castle, looking for anything salvageable to use.

Instead of tools or anything else useful, Mirabel found a picture frame. An old one from her and Mila's coronation, and in the picture, they were hugging and laughing, looking so happy. What happened to that loving bond the two girls had?

Mirabel:

I have to find a way

To make this all okay

I can't believe this small mistake

Could've caused so much heartache

Oh why, oh why?

Mirabel hugged her picture and cried.

Something is wrong, it's plain to see

This isn't how it's meant to be

And you can't see it like I do

It's not the life that's meant for you

Oh why, oh why?

Mirabel looked around and could see the rest of her family was sad too. Especially Mila's parents and the twins.

Losing promise

I don't know what to do

Seeking answers

I fear I won't get through to you

Mirabel looked at the picture again and knew she had to do something. She didn't know what, but she had to try. Anything to get her cousin back, if only to tell her how sorry she was for not protecting her when she needed it most.

I'll try

And I'll try

I'll try

And I'll try

"Oh, Mila. What have I done to you?" Mirabel said.

Mirabel decided something had to be done and it had to be done now! She immediately ran to her grandmother with something to say.

"Abuela, we have to go after Mila!"

"Mirabel, we don't have time to chase after anyone. We must gather as much as we can before Mariverde arrives."

"But the roc. That was Mila's idea! It can work, but she's the only one who knows how to actually operate the entire thing!"

"Mila's idea would have failed like they always do-"

"You don't know that!" Mirabel said. "Mila has so many great inventions that have worked. Like this Multi-Scope. It works. Sure, her inventions had problems before, but she didn't let that stop her! And you belittled her, but she didn't let that stop her either. She kept trying until she made a breakthrough. And she's right, her inventions could've helped us! She could've invented a system that would lift all this rubble out of the way! Or her idea to rebuild the support system for the altar could've stopped us from losing the first batch of food to begin with. Mila could've even invented some enormous bug zapper to help us fight the Puss Moths ourselves!"

"Milagro was not a proper princess. She was rebellious, chased away every potential husband, and chose to kiss a circus boy! She did not care about this family-"

"She loves this family, I love this family. We all love this family. It's you who doesn't care or listen. Mila was right. You've led this kingdom without a husband for years, so why can't women of this kingdom do things without men at their sides? And why does it matter that Mila's true love is a circus performer?"

"Mama, Mirabel is right." Bruno said. "Mila deserved better than the way this whole familia treated her. She is a very intelligent and capable woman with many amazing ideas that could've helped so many people. And now, she is being forced to be a slave! Do you think she deserves that?"

Queen Alma, for once, was silent.

"Wow." Mirabel said. "So you'd send your own grandkids to be enslaved like animals to hardened criminals when your bossing them isn't enough."

Mirabel decided to head over to Mila's workshop and see if she left anything behind that could be useful for rescuing her.

Meanwhile, Mila was crying as she was in chains, and her magic was gone, so she couldn't use that to help her friends escape. And to make matters worse, Palpatine's trailers were now filled with the same technology placed on the shock collars, so if even one person tried to escape, he could shock everyone at once.

"Anyone got any bright ideas?" said Hunter.

"I don't think we're gonna be able to escape this time," said Anakin. "No doubt Palpatine knows how we escaped the first time, and he's upped his security since we left."

"At least he didn't get to the children." Brenda said. "As long as their free, they'll have a fighting chance."

"And what makes you think Abuela is going to let them stay in Encanto?" Mila said. "No one did anything to rescue any of us when Palpatine captured us! That kingdom is just full of cowards who won't do anything to stand up to bullies like him!"

"I'm going to say that's your anger talking." Obi-Wan said.

"Say what you like, but it's true. Abuela just doesn't love me like she claimed she did. The kingdom's better off without me. Now they don't have me to invent things that interfere with their old-fashioned lifestyle. And I'm better off without them."

"You won't miss your family… at all?" Padme said.

"What do you think?" Mila said.

But Mila forced herself not to cry.

Mila:

Why should I play this game of pretend?

Remembering through a secondhand sorrow?

Taken from home with all of my friends

Oh, don't the tears just pour

Mila forced herself to look for reasons she was better off where she was. She reminded herself how many times her family and the people of Encanto would tell her that her inventions were ridiculous, guaranteed failures unless a man worked on them, and that because she was a princess, her only job was to get married and produce more heirs for the throne.

I could curl up and hide in my room

There in my bed, still sobbing tomorrow

I could give in to all of the gloom

But tell me, tell me what for

Why should I have a heavy heart?

Why should I start to break in pieces?

Why should I go and fall apart for you?

Why should I play the grieving girl and lie

Saying that I miss you

And that my world has gone dark without your light?

I will sing no requiem tonight

Back in Encanto, Bruno looked at a picture he managed to find of Mila when she was little, and he glared at his mother as she was ordering the people to keep working.

Bruno:

She gave you her love, you threw her away

Leaving these broken pieces here with us

All that time wasted, no more to say.

So I can sing no requiem

Mirabel, on the other hand, gathered what tools and portable devices she could find in Mila's workshop and packed a bag. Luckily, Mila left behind plans for a horse-drawn carriage. She just needed to borrow her uncle Bruno's horse since his was the fastest.

Mirabel was determined to find Mila and apologize to her for everything.

Mirabel:

I'll find you soon, search high and low

I won't stop looking 'til I find you

You meant so much and I miss you

And I will sing no requiem tonight.

Everyone:

Why should I have a heavy heart?

Mila:

Why should I say I'll keep you with me?

Why should I go and fall apart for you?

Why should I play the grieving girl and lie

Saying that I miss you and that my world has gone dark without your light?

I will sing no requiem

Tonight

Mila could only see the Encanto as the villains now. They rejected her, ridiculed her, and left her to be enslaved. What kind of friends were those?

'Cause when the villains fall, the kingdoms never weep

No one lights a candle to remember

No, no one mourns at all

When they lay them down to sleep

So, don't tell me that I didn't have it right

Don't tell me that it wasn't black and white

But other thoughts crossed Mila's mind too. The times her parents hugged her and kissed her when she was scared or hurt, the time Tia Julieta let her and Mirabel help her make arepas, or when Luisa scared away some big boys picking on Mila. Even the times when she was little and she would let her and Mirabel sit in her lap while she told them stories about her youth. But Mila was angriest at her grandmother, and she figured she might as well stay that way forever.

After all you put me through

Don't say it wasn't true

That you were not the monster

That I knew

But Mila couldn't hold back her tears anymore. No matter how mad she was at the Encanto or her family, she couldn't stand being trapped in this horrible prison, not knowing if she would ever see her family again.

'Cause I cannot play the grieving girl and lie

Saying that I miss you And that my world has gone dark

Bruno:

I will sing no requiem

Mirabel:

I will sing no requiem

Mila:

I will sing no requiem tonight

Everyone:

Oh, oh

Oh, oh

Oh, oh

Oh, oh

Mila broke down into more tears as it appeared she was doomed to live the rest of her life enslaved.
