A week passed in Sutirushiti after the events of Independence Day, but in that same week some things happened.
The Sutirushiti Special Forces had arrested everyone involved in Baron Kurai including Katami on charges of attempted homicide and terrorism. And with the testimonies of the prisoners who were forced to work for them, the debris of the dark ship and airships recovered from the desert, the robotic spiders destroyed and the evidence of information obtained in the new lair that was confiscated, there was no doubt that they would spend a lot of time in prison.
The previous lair in the underground was destroyed to prevent another madman from wanting to use it, after all, the owner of all the chaos had died because of his own lust for power. There was damage in the center of the city from the fight against the baron's soldiers and the spiders that were beginning to be repaired.
Nobita and Doraemon returned to Sutirushiti with the Anywhere Door, specifically to the Situs Hospital, the Nobis ran to hug them both happy and relieved that they were safe and sound. Shizuka and Dekisugi's parents also arrived to thank the pair for saving their children.
The Hospital was in charge of treating the wounded from Baron Kurai's last attack thanks to its partner, the President of Suchimu Corp, who was able to recover his factory thanks to the efforts of the special forces and the police.
Mr. Hirano met with Nobita and his family, apologizing to his parents for getting the pair mixed up in the plan against Baron Kurai, but Nobita and Doraemon asked the Nobis not to blame Olivier for that and and they both blamed themselves, since in the end it was true that they were never forced to agree to enter the program, they wanted to do it, especially Nobita for good reasons.
At their son's request, Nobisuke and Tamako let that go and forgave Olivier, since Nobita's intentions were to help the city. Although in any case the boy and the robot cat were reprimanded for lying and risking their lives without having consulted them. But in the end the pair didn't care as everything ended well for everyone.
Olivier also told the pair about the Mechanical Engine and his father's version of the story, also apologizing to Nobita for having given him a prosthesis that almost left him like a zombie, the boy understood and accepted the apology because in any case, neither Olivier himself knew that part of the story.
Nobita had become fond of his prosthesis even though it was the invention of a villain since he felt that one saved the other, one from being used for evil and the other from a second chance at life, both being helped by a Hirano.
Speaking of the Hiranos, Seiya and Melia continued studying at the school along with Nobita, Shizuka, and Dekisugi. They finally spent their time being children, the plan against the baron and how he spent his time tormenting Sutirushiti did not let them enjoy their youth, so now, everyone was free.
As the STEAM Experiment came to an end, Mia dedicated herself to continuing working for Suchimu Corp, but as the industry's chief mechanic, like Hikaru who was still Dr. Keta's intern.
Today, Mayor Watanabe was with another event downtown that he had scheduled for two events. First, to redeliver the patents to the winners of the contest, because with the mess that happened on Independence Day, everything had been lost, so Dekisugi was finally able to obtain his patent to start with his great dream of carrying out humanity to Mars.
And the second, Steam Squadron was awarded medals of valor also at the same event for their efforts in the mission against Baron Kurai. Sutirushiti finally met those who were in the shadows to save them all, the STEAM experiment program was a success, everyone applauded the guys who were somewhat embarrassed by the praise for the work they did since it was more to avoid that someone evil would do more harm than merit.
All of Nobita's classmates and friends saw him on stage, those who were with him from the beginning like Shizuka and Dekisugi were happy with him, as were those who weren't as close to him as Yasuo, Haru and Tachibana. His classmates have already ended the habit of looking reluctantly at the mechanical boy because of his clumsiness and slowness, to see him as another friend. After all, he saved them too.
Suneo and Gian were also at the celebration but a little further away, the robust boy had no choice but to accept that he could no longer intimidate Nobita, especially after he showed high courage and wasn't the same crying and fearful boy from months ago, so he decided to stop bothering him, but continuing with the pride of remaining another companion to him.
Suneo on the other hand has a hard time admitting it, for a long time he has been one of the most outstanding students, but now he is the one who has been left behind, thinking that he was the one who should receive the glory and not (someone pathetic and slow) like Nobita, it may take him a while to accept the same thing that Gian accepted, since the dwarf considered himself the best in his class for being rich and smart. So for now, the ego will continue but without Gian's help, he will no longer mess with the one he always knew how to humiliate him.
Despite everything that has happened, Nobita continued to improve in class little by little and now he was busy with an idea that he was going to share with his friends, something that he wanted to do years ago but with the low self-esteem he had before, he didn't allow it to himself.
But now life was going to be good for everyone.
A month passes, the snowy and cold season had begun, the streets of Sutirushiti were painted white, everyone was wearing coats, scarves, gloves and winter hats. It had also been a month since the steam city freed itself from the metal monster that had been tormenting it for years and now there was great tranquility, without any threat of any kind.
It was a Friday afternoon outside the Central Theater, Shizuka was waiting for someone while she saw the sign for that day's show (The Story of Vapu, last performance), it was going to be the last time the theater would show that play. She was wearing a coat and gloves over her clothes.
Nobita comes running to meet her, he was wearing a coat, gloves and a scarf placed over his clothes. He doesn't get tired like before, but he does breathe deeply from running and scratches the back of his neck, smiling at her while he blushes. "Hi Shizuka, I'm almost late, sorry"
The girl with the pigtails lets out a low giggle. "Despite everything that has happened, you don't give up being you." Shizuka looks at the poster with a sad smile. "It's a shame that this is the last presentation of the History of Vapu. It really is a moving story and it was nice that they represented it in a play."
"Yeah, according to Doraemon, today is the day that Hanz returns to the future because he accomplished his mission. Whatever it was, and they want to say goodbye to him with the last presentation of the story, I think from what I understood, the deputy manager of the theater will be in charge now."
"I see" Shizuka says startled to what Nobita says "I'm still surprised by the fact that the theater manager is also from the future, but it was thanks to him that we have our memories, in part we thank him for the detail" referring to the necklaces of course.
"I know, we met him with this same story and now we will say goodbye to him with this one. Although, I feel like I lived something similar to Vapu's story with everything that has happened for 5 months" Nobita says, somewhat nervous when remembering everything: The incidents, his mechanical heart, the mission, the entire odyssey came to him as quick flashbacks in his mind as he sighed in relief that he had that second chance.
"But" Shizuka takes Nobita's hand with blushes on both of their cheeks and not just because of the cold. "I'm really glad it had a different ending."
Smiling at each other, they both enter the theater with a new detail: Now the half-heart necklace that they both have was out of their clothes, giving the sign that they were now more than friends.
After the performance of the play and the farewell given to the lanky guy in the theater, the scene changes to the warehouse next to Suchimu Corp. The entire Steam Squadron is gathered there to say goodbye to Hanz, including Mr. Hirano, Dr. Keta, Shizuka and Dekisugi, since a certain mechanic was going to tell them something important. Everyone was drinking hot chocolate from mugs.
"Will you miss my collaboration when I (go abroad) Olivier?" Hanz says with the mischievous smile that characterizes him.
"Not much, but I thank you for the recommendations given for the mission. Likewise, since you are leaving and with the collaboration we did with the special forces and the police, I can now terminate the STEAM Experiment program" The president of Suchimu says that last thing, raising his cup of chocolate and the rest do the same while celebrating and smiling, except for Hanz who preferred to have a glass of whiskey for the cold.
"Weren't you going on vacation, Mia?" Hikaru asks while she acts indifferent.
"And leave the work without supervision now that I am assistant manager of the factory? Not even in dreams, not in this weather, I don't like the cold. I'll take them when winter goes away"
"There are two of us now, the cold seasons are the least pleasant, especially if there is snow" says Doraemon who was wearing a hat and a wool sweater hugging the warmth of the cup in his hands to which Nobita laughs softly.
"With the patent and sponsorship of Suchimu Corp for the spacecraft project, I'm sure that I'll be able to successfully start the first prototype of the spacecraft, the borders between this world and the beyond of space will be crossed one day, I appreciate it very much" says Dekisugi, smiling with his classmates.
"Dad couldn't pass up the opportunity to support that dream, I'm sure you'll achieve it, Dekisugi" Melia says, smiling at the smart boy who scratches the back of his neck in embarrassment.
"Talking about dreams. I think you have something to tell, right Nobita?" Shizuka tells him, smiling at her now boyfriend.
"Oh, it's true!" The clumsy mechanic approaches a table where his bag was, opening it and searching for something, until he takes out what appeared to be a blueprint, which he opens and spreads on the table, startling everyone with a smile.
"Is that what I think it is?" Seiya says with emotion to which Nobita nods proudly.
What the silly boy had shown was the blueprint of a flying ship with propellers similar to the one in the project from 5 months ago, but with different details, it was his version that resembled the one in his dreams, he himself had made the plan in detail and all. He had already decided, he was going to fulfill his dream of visiting the places he wanted to visit with his grandma, being an explorer, he had also taken out an old map of the continent with the places marked by him and his grandma when she was alive.
"It took me a month to make the plan, I had to ask Seiya and Dekisugi for advice on design and modeling, but I wanted to leave what I wanted to do a secret just for this moment because I want to be the one to bring this to life, it will be my personal project with whom I'll go exploring, it may take me a few years but I want to do it myself, it will stop being a dream and will become a reality."
"You really had it in your pocket Nobita, I didn't even know it" Doraemon says surprised but at the same time proud of his best friend and that all the work of improving himself worked out.
Nobita scratches the back of his neck nervously and smiling with a blush on his cheeks as he sees his girlfriend. "It's just that I often went to Shizuka's house to work on the project plan there to show you today, I wanted it to be a special surprise. The truth is that I've already decided, I'm going to continue being a mechanic like dad."
"Really? I thought you wanted to be a freelance aviator for this very reason" The mechanical cat asks in surprise.
"I know" Nobita changes to a determined face looking at everyone "But what has happened to me in these 5 months made me realize that I have to work hard at what I now know I have been good at all this time. Because of the pressure for trying to find what I'm good at and the low self-esteem I had from being bullied, they didn't let me believe in myself. But I've even been able to save the city together with you, I really appreciate everything you've done for me, how you cared about me, how you encouraged me to get out of that hole that I didn't even want to get out of. I really appreciate that." The silly boy smiles at everyone with a sparkle in his eyes while the rest also smile at him.
"Of course I'm not going to leave my dream aside, I'll be fine as soon as I fulfill it. That is why I'll work on this project from now on, I want this to be a reality, I want to do it for me and my grandma. When I do that I'll return to Sutirushiti to be a professional mechanic, maybe I have a good repair station." Nobita sees Doraemon "What motivated me the most in that was you, Doraemon"
The mechanical cat is startled with sparkles in his eyes. "When I saw you damaged in the Black Airship I thought I had lost my best buddy, and all my thoughts were focused on saving you. And when I did, I felt good, happy to have recovered you. I felt very good to repair you because I didn't want it to be the end of you. Also the other day I had repaired Shizuka's mechanical canary because it was feeling sick, which also made me remember that moment and when I did it well and concentrated, she was very happy."
"I'm going to continue practicing to make others happy with my talent, I want them to feel good and satisfied when something is like new and back with them, whether if it is an engine, a propeller... Or a robot buddy"
"Nobita," says Doraemon, tearing up, to which he hugs him lovingly with everyone moved by that scene. "I'm going to support you in this, pal, rest assured! You're going to achieve your dream and you'll also be a very good mechanic, I feel it."
"Then let us be a part of your dream, Nobita!" Seiya says with encouragement "I know you want to do this by yourself, but now that we have taken a weight off our shoulders, we would like to be even your assistants, wouldn't we, Melia?" The black-haired girl nods enthusiastically at what her brother said.
"I will also support you Nobi, even if I'm also in my own project, we can help each other" Dekisugi says smiling.
"We will all be with you in this project, because it's the reflection of a beautiful dream and what you want to do" says the girl with the pigtails.
"Yeah, count on us if you need anything, after all, you helped us with the mission" Hikaru says
"Likewise, I think you'll still need to learn to be a good mechanic after you complete it, so if you want, I can give you some extra classes, 807." Mia says, serious as always, and then smiles a little. "I mean, Nobita."
Everyone is surprised to hear that the mechanical girl called the boy by his name and not by his number, in the end, she ended up being just another friend, as if she were an older sister. Nobita tears up with emotion for the support of everything and smiles enthusiastically, he was going to be very busy from now on, but that will be worth it and he will work hard since now he went from being the little disaster mechanic to being a new version of himself.
The day ends with everyone saying goodbye to Hanz, and when leaving the warehouse which would be closed indefinitely since the program had come to an end, everyone began to leave with their coats and gloves while a light snow began to fall in the evening in Sutirushiti.
While Nobita and Shizuka were talking to Seiya and Melia who were waiting for Mr. Hirano to lock everything, Doraemon sees how Hanz was far away, there was a doubt he had since they met again, so while he was waiting for his buddy, he runs to catch up with the theater man. "Hey! Wait a minute!" the robot cat shouts, approaching the lanky guy.
"Oh, we've already said goodbye. I have to go back to the future and give my report, anyway you can go there to visit me whenever you want. What's wrong, my hearing-impaired friend?" Hanz smiles at the mechanical cat.
Reluctantly ignoring yet another ear joke, Doraemon looks at him with a confused face. "Could you tell me what your mission as a verifier was? I mean, since your mission is already over, you can tell me without problems, and if it helps you at all, I won't tell Nobita about that"
"You better not do it, humans from the past wouldn't understand what humans from the future think." The theater man pauses "The metal monster. My job was the end of Professor Matsuyama"
Doraemon is startled when he hears that "I guess you don't understand that, I mean, you are a babysitter robot, your job is to take care of a human child and take him to a good future. Mine also involved a human, but so follow his path of misfortune... Or even make it worse. We are in a new timeline friend, before my... Acting as an extra character, Baron Kurai was only going to end up imprisoned for many years and the mission ended up being quite a success, almost.
Hanz looks carefully at Seiya and Melia "There was an irreparable loss, it was too much for the owner of Suchimu that he had to give his factory to another person because it reminded him of what he loved. This new timeline was sponsored by the Time Police! Changes for good and fun for me"
"I see, so you helped make it easier for everyone. But to bring Professor Matsuyama to an end? You knew all of this was going to happen? Even the Nobita's incident?" Doraemon remains thoughtful remembering the day of the incident. "What or who was the factor that changed it?"
"Always have a door at hand, a handkerchief for the salty rain and a chair to wait in. That's what you told me when you left that day. Did you know that was going to...?" But when he was going to ask more Doraemon was already alone. "Well, I guess I'll never know, he's always been a mysterious stranger."
But Hanz was on top of a tall building after disappearing from the robot's gaze. "This is when the curtain falls on this server, they no longer need me here. Having united a child with a heart was the icing on the cake." He says while watching Nobita say goodbye to Seiya and Melia "You went through a lot of pain, drama and misery, but thanks to that, the result was much better than I expected, you saved the future of the Hirano and matured I can't say that to you or the robot cat. Anyway, enjoy the results, heartbroken child."
At the same time that Hanz disappears from view of the past, Doraemon turns and watches as Nobita takes off his scarf to give it to Shizuka because it was a little colder, for which Shizuka thanks him by giving him a kiss on the cheek, so that later the couple of lovers hold hands smiling at each other. Which makes the mechanical cat smile too. "Although, one day I'll also have to return to the future when my role ends. But I'm sure I can do it peacefully knowing that everything will be better for Nobita."
The mechanical cat approaches Nobita and Shizuka and then moves away from the warehouse and thus returns to their homes with a bright future waiting for them like the energy of an engine.
