Burn Notice
I wasn't expecting such contrasting views on what happened last chapter. It's very interesting to see thoughts on what happened and on Aizawa himself. Before I address the reviews, I do want to personally thank everyone who has reviewed and those who have been watching and bookmarking the story. Means a lot.
Oxygen Destroyer 1954 says: Wasn't it revealed that the class that Eraserhead expelled were re-enrolled and that it was just a scare to get them to be serious
Guest also commented: Never did like Aizawa, in Canon, he boasted about Logic, but was 100 percent emotional based himself.
Alizyk added: Aizawa never expelled them from UA. They were for short periods sent to general studies and then came back to the hero course.
Mugen-Muse said: Whoops. Imagine Kagura's collapse had given Eraser Head quite the scare. Though I wonder which teacher will be replacing him as Class 1-A's homeroom teacher. Midnight?
Yeah, even Midoriya had called Bakugo stupid for telling him to jump off a roof. The green bean may not have said it to the blond bomber's face, but still.
On one hand, the MHA wiki makes it sound like Aizawa's expulsions are only"on paper" thus they are temporary. The point was to make students feel "death" so that they would take their studies seriously going forward. On the other hand, the time it takes for everyone to be reenrolled might be enough for at least one student to have done something drastic before they could be told. I wonder if Nezu and/ or Hound Dog might have been nearby to watch out for any at-risk students.
Well. I want to first address my take on Aizawa and his expulsion.
Yes there was a class 2-A that existed in canon who came from the Previous Class 1-A… however other than a brief snippet in the anime and the appearance of Mawata Fuwa, we've only seen at most 8-9 individuals for the Second Year students. Now my problem is that, for clarification's sake, that each year, they enroll 40 students into the hero course, 20 in Class A and 20 in Class B… where are the other 31-32 students for the Second Year?
Even taking in account that almost all years are considered junior sidekicks and interns, why do we only see 8 second years and only 4 third years around campus? Could argue that they weren't important to show but they did show the second year students (the few there were), and to an extent, they didn't need to show Yuyu Haya either. Let's not mention the fact that Horikoshi gave even the most innocuous of characters great designs.
I would imagine that Aizawa did expel them on paper and made them stew in their failure to drive the point home. However doing that would have caused irreparable damage to families. For what it's worth, Japan is still Japan in My Hero, and I would guess that some of those students either turned to a life of crime, either out of shame or desperation, or worse, and when those few students did come back, he'd probably think that his "logical ruse" worked and weeded out those he felt didn't have potential when in reality, he provided destroyed families.
And Aizawa is definitely a hypocrite. Looking back at everything, it felt like he became a teacher to prevent what happened to Oboro from happening to anyone else. Also, they're teachers. If a student has an issue, I would think that a really good one would help, not just go "figure it out yourself, I'm going to take a nap". They don't teach children how to use their Quirks in Middle School and Elementary School. If they did, we wouldn't have Toga would we?
Then again, Toga's issue is a whole bag of worms which ended in the worse way.
I feel like if Aizawa was even a third better teacher than he actually was, MHA would have been drastically different.
Also I think the Quirk evaluation is stupid? Technically speaking, unless you're a Hero or A licensed government official, isn't it illegal to use your Quirk? It's why I wrote in the Ingenium Facility, one of many places people can train their Quirks. It's also why I technically skipped it. Other than Kagura, nothing else changed except who is in class 1-A.
It's easy to see how teaching and how teachers from Japan approach students in Anime, Live Action, Manga, Light Novels and in Real Life. You can like the hot mess of a man. As an overall character, I think he's alright, but in terms of him being an actual teacher? Easily in my top ten. You want to see a good teacher in action AND have a good time? Watch the Live Action rendition of Great Teacher Onizuka.
I'll get down from the Soap Box for now. I actually genuinely love the World of My Hero, but I'm not so in love with it enough to not see any inconsistencies.
Chapter 6
After that, I was allowed to go home with my mom. After eating something, I retreated to my room. Checking my phone I saw that the group chat was.. bigger and more active? They must've added some of our classmates to it.
HitoHime: Rejoice, for I live!
Several people are typing…
I giggled to myself watching everyone shoot me messages asking what happened, how I'm doing and the like. It's amusing and heartwarming at the same time.
HitoHime: One at a time, please! I don't even recognize most of you by username or real names yet!
Midoribun: Sorry HitoHime, MomoMaker and FistFury invited a few people from both classes and we had to explain what happened from what we know.
FistFury: Yeah! We didn't see your class at orientation and then we heard your class got cancelled due to an accident?
HitoHime: Yeah, I had an extremely bad reaction to our sensei's Quirk. Every vein in my body constricted causing me to black out.
JetLeg: How is that possible? I've never heard of such a Quirk like that!
HitoHime: You must be Tenya-kun. Look up the Raynaud's Phenomenon. It happened to me on a smaller rapid scale. Not as extreme but enough to cause a black out.
I waited a bit as people were looking things up. I realized I was still in my training outfit from school so I changed out of that and into my pajamas. I was definitely taking it easy.
GhostyGal: Are you sure you're okay? My name is Reiko Yanagi of class 1-B
HitoHime: I'm well enough to be at home. Also pleasure to meet you Yanagi-san
TungstenKid: I'm Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu, and yes I get a lot of jokes about my name. Also from Class 1-B.
FunGal: I'm Kinoko Kimori, also from Class 1-B, I went to middle school with Itsuka!
HitoHime: Please tell me you got some tea on Itsuka.
FistFury: Hey!
FunGal: You bet I do ( ꈍ ᴗ ꈍ )!
HitoHime: This is going to be the start of a beautiful friendship!
"Aizawa is no longer our teacher?!" The words hit me like a punch to the gut. The thought of him being gone felt wrong, like the natural order of the world had been upended.
"It seems that Aizawa-sensei had too many complaints about his methods over the years, and even though you recovered well enough, it was enough to get him moved to a different department," Momo explained over the phone. I was forced to stay home an extra day to ensure my body and Quirk were fine. Momo had called me to let me know after classes. "We won't find out who our new teacher is until tomorrow."
"That sucks… they didn't fire him, did they?"
"No, they have him teaching third years. From what I understand, Aizawa-sensei does get results when it comes to teaching, but he's been using his harsh methods to cope with his trauma."
A faded image popped into my head, perhaps the embers of the past still trying to help. A cheerful teen with blue hair. The name Oboro whispered in my mind. "He's an underground hero; he should've gone to therapy. It's not like he's someone like Hawks or Best Jeanist. They're out in the open, so they have to be seen holding it together."
"Would All Might and Endeavor need therapy?" Momo mused.
"Who'd be brave enough to even talk to the walking inferiority complex that is Endeavor?" I bit out. Before Momo could reply, I kept going. "You know his son is in our class, right? Twin hair color boy?"
"Todoroki Shoto-kun, he was at the recommended student exam." Shoto-kun? Better nip this in the bud.
"Momo, no, you can't fix him." I heard my friend squeak, and knowing her, she was blushing. "I took one look at him when I entered our class and could smell the trauma. His eyes were subarctic, and that scar on his face tells more than just a 'training accident.' He doesn't need affection; he needs a reality check."
"W-Well, couldn't the same be said about Iida-san?" I felt flummoxed by the counter. I let out a sigh. "I'm sorry, Kagu-chan, that was-"
"Was perfectly fine. Even Tensei, his brother, admitted that his brother is too in love with their family legacy. His family has actually warned me about him several times." Warnings that I ignored until now...
"I don't want you to get hurt, Kagura, no more than you'd want me to get hurt. Tenya is... too much."
"I'll definitely need to sleep on it." Unlike Momo's interest in Shoto, I had months of pining over tall, blue, and himbo. I let out an unladylike snort.
"Kagura?"
"Tall, Blue, and Himbo..." I heard Momo snort over the phone. "See!"
"We were having a moment, and you had to make a joke!" We talked a bit more before both saying our good nights and headed to bed.
The next day, I walked into the classroom feeling a mix of apprehension and determination. The news about Aizawa-sensei still lingered in my mind, but I tried to push it aside. I was greeted by the usual buzz of chatter among my classmates, but the atmosphere felt slightly off.
As I made my way to my seat, Mina hurried over to me, her face a picture of guilt and concern. "Kagura, can I talk to you for a second?"
I nodded, and we stepped aside. Mina's usual energetic demeanor was subdued. "I wanted to apologize for what happened," she said quietly. "You warned me, and I didn't listen. Because of that, you got hurt. I'm so sorry."
I could see the sincerity in her eyes. I took a deep breath, feeling the weight of the situation. "It's okay, Mina. We all make mistakes. What's important is that we learn from them. And hey, I'm fine now."
Mina's eyes welled up with tears. "Still, I feel awful. I promise I'll be more careful next time."
I gave her a reassuring smile. "I know you will. Let's just focus on moving forward, okay?"
Mina nodded, wiping her eyes. "Thanks, Kagura. You're the best."
We returned to our seats and waited. The new teacher entered the classroom. Everyone fell silent, curious about the person who would be taking Aizawa-sensei's place. He had brown, spiky hair and brown eyes. He wore a dress shirt and black dress pants and shoes, though over his left arm was a blue band with a strange symbol on it. A gold ring with a red circle that was bisected with a black line.
"Hello class, I'll be your homeroom teacher for the next three years. My name is Hub Hikari and it's nice to meet you all." He introduced himself with a warm smile that, to be honest, made him look even more handsome. "Before we begin, why don't we open up with a few questions. I can tell quite a few of you have some questions. When I call on you, stand and state your name so I can get acquainted with you all."
Why…why did this man look and sound so familiar. Why did that name sound so familiar?...and Why did I have a feeling that the Goddess had a hand in this?
Another short chapter. I swear, I'll get enough strength to write more, but we're entering a bit of a story where more of the lore is popping out and we'll be getting more and more interesting characters.
