Chapter 11: The Jaune problem Pt.1

Weeks have gone by and things have normalized, kind of…Some of the students got used to Onyx being there while others were still wary of him, how could they not? Combat classes didn't help a lot since he was always paired to spar against hi sister much to his annoyance but he understood why Ms. Goodwitch did it, Pyrrha was the only one that was close to his level and the two barely held back so it was always a show seeing the two of them fight yet it was intimidating for many except for one Cardin Winchester who just believed it was an act.

But things got better for Onyx in Beacon…well, that was until this morning that he decided to actually eat well since he's been holding back, eating a little more than most normal people do to avoid any problems but today? Today his stomach roared like a beast that awakened after a thousand year slumber and he was feeling sluggish.

Team RWBY and O-JNPR were walking towards the mess hall when the young Saiyan roared loudly.

"Someone is hungry" Yang teases with a playful smile on her face.

"I am, I could eat an entire horse and have seconds" Onyx admits.

"You've been eating too little brother, I think it's time for you to stop acting like everyone" Pyrrha shakes her head in disappointment.

"Watcha mean by eating too little? He eats more than everyone, two plates of food!" Nora points out.

"As much as I don't like agreeing with Nora's claims, it's true, he eats more than everyone and he doesn't seem to gain any weight" Weiss grumbles, she had to had a strict diet to keep her figure, Blake, Yang, Pyrrha and Nora Agreed with Weiss on that fact.

"Ruby eats the same amount that Onyx does…not mentioning she's always eating cookies" Jaune points out.

"I have a really but really fast metabolism thanks to my semblance, I get hungry…and cookies are the second best food ever!" Ruby exclaims with a pout.

"What's the first best food ever?" Onyx and Ren ask in unison.

"Strawberry" Ruby answers, drooling a little, Yang had to get a handkerchief to dry the drooling on her sister's face.

Weiss and Onyx facepalmed while Ren just chuckled a little.

"Anyway" Pyrrha giggles a little as she puts her hand on her brother's shoulder "You are eating your normal amount today…or I'll call mom"

"No need to tell me twice, I'm feeling rather sluggish again, I will go for seconds actually" The young Saiyan admits and Pyrrha eyes open wide.

"Oh…" Pyrrha pales a little.

"What's up with that reaction P-money?" Yang asks as soon as they enter the mess hall and watches Pyrrha walk over to the kitchen lady.

"We have an Onyx code red" Pyrrha says loudly.

Both teams see the kitchen lady flinch, turning around to see Pyrrha with wide eyes and slowly nodding. Everybody was confused by their reactions but shrugged it off as they started serving their own food.

Thirty minutes later when everyone was finishing their meal, the kitchen lady came with a big cart, full of food and started putting it in front of Onyx. Beef, sandwiches, lamb, salads, soup, chicken, all of that was for Onyx alone as everybody that wasn't Pyrrha started realizing what was going on…but it got worse as Onyx started eating like a starved beast.

Plates started mounting up as Onyx ate and he didn't seem to be stopping as the kitchen lady came back with a second round of all of the food she had already delivered before. The young Saiyan kept eating, as a mountain of plates piled up at his side, it was a surprise he didn't dirty the table with his pig out and that the plates were basically clean after he finished.

"Oh man…that really hit the spot" Onyx admits as he pats his stomach, feeling full.

"How…?" Blake asks herself, holding her hand on her mouth trying not to puke at the thought of eating so much.

"That was…" Yang tries to find the words to describe what she just witnessed.

"Impossible?" Ruby asks.

"Improbable?" Jaune continues.

"Unthinkable?" Ren adds his two cents.

"Disgusting?" Weiss also joins in, her face scrunching in pure disgust.

"Awesome!" Nora exclaims in awe of someone eating so much.

"All of that, yes" Yang nods slowly.

"Normal" Pyrrha finally butts in, grabbing everyone's attention.

The first thought that they had was that Pyrrha was joking but the serious look on her face made them discard that thought.

"My brother has an extremely fast metabolism due to his genes" Pyrrha explains.

"So that's why you are always having a snack and never sharing!" Jaune gasps, he has seen Onyx munching some kind of snack during all classes.

"And here I thought he was just using hyperbole when he said he could eat an entire horse" Yang laughs nervously.

"No, it's something I share with my master since we share a similar ancestor" Onyx shrugs a little, but this catched everyone attention, specially Weiss' and Yang's

"Now that you mention it, Goku and you look rather similar" Yang admits, remembering Goku when he saved her and Ruby alongside their uncle.

"Do tell" Weiss was now interested.

"My master and I have both this metabolism, also we both have black hair and black eyes" Onyx explains a little.

"Now that you mention it, I've never seen someone with black eyes like yours" Ren admits, he knows about the rarity of certain eye colors but black never popped up.

This caught the attention of everyone, Silver eyes were the rarest type of color but now they have seen someone with Black eyes, even Ruby was surprised a little when she saw Onyx's black eyes and she has Silver eyes.

"Was he a Faunus too?" Blake asks, wondering if this metabolism and rarity of eyes is a faunus trait.

"Nope" Yang, Pyrrha and Onyx deny in unison, the three actually share a look at that.

"Uh, so you are mixed?" Nora asks.

Now this caught Weiss interest, She knows that Humans and Faunus are compatible with humans in terms of breeding and normally when a human and Faunus parents have a child, the child is either human or the same kind of Faunus as the parent so she wondered if his eyes are also a faunus trait but she quickly pushed it away since monkey's eyes are normally yellow-ish…maybe a genetic mutation and the color of his eyes is actually his pupil considering that Faunus have night vision.

"I don't know" Onyx admits

"What do you mean that you don't know?" Jaune asks, curious about his teammate's response.

"I have amnesia" Onyx says casually.

"Oh?" Blake raises an eyebrow, not expecting that answer.

"Our mother found him outside our hometown with a really bad head injury after she went to visit my dad's grave" Pyrrha tells a little of the story, Onyx nods in confirmation.

"I was, or we believe, four at the time, nasty head injury, blood all over my face and the cold snow of that winter and not knowing who I was nor where I am" Onyx explains a little more.

Nobody was expecting this. Sure, they knew he was adopted by the different details between Pyrrha and Onyx unlike Ruby and Yang who share similarities from their father but they didn't expect to hear he was literally found and in that critical state in the cold winter. Ren and Nora had a grim expression on their faces, this hit too close to home for them, both being orphans and they couldn't help but feel jealous of Onyx.

"What about your parents?" Yang asks, her voice a little shaky.

"No idea" Pyrrha answers "No one ever came for him, when Goku appeared we thought he was his dad, I was scared because I thought I was going to lose my brother but in the end, they just share an ancestor so my brother's real parents are probably not here anymore"

Pyrrha knew with certainty the truth of Onyx's parents since she knows his true heritage…an alien of the Saiyan race and by what her mother told her, the race is basically extinct with Goku's son being the last survivor of the race and even so, he is a half breed so she knows pretty well that her brother's parents are dead.

"Or they left me to die and abandoned me" Onyx says casually.

The word abandoned sent Yang over the edge, she clenched her fist and her eyes turned red, trying to keep her anger in check and closing her eyes so no one saw her reaction. The situation hit way too close home for the blonde brawler since her mother abandoned her and her father only for Ruby's mom, Summer to pick up the pieces until she died.

Weiss felt a little sympathy for her so called brute, she comes from a broken family and she barely remembers when her parents were actually acting like parents with her butler Klein basically raising her and her older sister, she wouldn't fully understand his situation but she can at least understand the feeling of his real parents being absent.

Jaune felt…anger, for an Arc, family is everything and to hear that his teammate was basically abandoned by his own family is blasphemy for the blonde dork. The Arc family is always united even if they disagree on some things, he left home and cheated his way into Beacon after his father and mother disagreed with his dreams of becoming a huntsman like his father and grandfather but he still writes to them, calls them and keeps a close bond with his parents and all of her sisters.

Blake? She had mixed feelings, she basically abandoned her parents for the sake of the White Fang, to follow her mentor and ex-lover for the Faunus cause but now that she is out of the Fang…she cannot face them, she felt like a piece of shit after hearing Onyx's story, she should call her parents or send a letter, to let them know that she is alright and in Beacon. She should be better.

"Why the long faces?" Onyx asks.

"Is just that…" Ruby sobs a little, she was emotional after hearing his story.

"If you ever need anything Onyx…Ren and I are here" Nora's voice is surprisingly soft, Ren agrees in silence with a nod.

"Guys, it's fine, I have Pyrrha and Mom, I don't care who my real parents are" Onyx shrugs but appreciates the sentiments.

"Look, you can have the rest of my breakfast dude" Jaune hands over what's left on his plate that is half a sandwich and some bacon.

"Awesome" Onyx grins. Jaune went from team leader to possible brother in law just by giving him food.

A few days later.

The days went by after that emotional ride and things went back to normal again…with the exception of Jaune, he was getting bullied by Cardin Winchester and his team CRDL and things got worse since Cardin and Jaune are always paired together during combat class due to Jaune being the worst combatant and Cardin being a mediocre fighter.

Today was one of these days as Jaune was facing Cardin, Team O-JNPR was watching Jaune getting handed another losing match while Cardin kept taunting and beating up Jaune in the sparring match.

"Jaune really needs to get some training done…both in weapons and physique" Onyx thinks to himself as he watches the match being stopped by Goodwitch.

Cardin makes a comment towards Jaune and Onyx can't help but narrow his eyes, he was getting Verde's flashback all over the place with Cardin to the point he wanted to send Cardin through couple walls with a kick but alas, he needed to keep his annoyance in check.

And things really didn't get any better from that point forward. During lunch, his sister and Ruby kept stealing glances at a rather depressed Jaune while Nora tells a story. Both ask the blonde dork if he was okay because he clearly wasn't showing any okay signs even if he said the contrary, everything pointed to Cardin bullying him and the two voiced their concerns to the point that Jaune even asked when did Cardin bullied him.

Everybody in the table shared what they witnessed, even Weiss did! Like when Cardin passed by and dropped his books, or when activated his shield in the middle of the door frame making him get stuck and finally the locker incident when Cardin shoved Jaune into a locker and rocked him out of the academy.

"I didn't land far from the school, actually just by the courtyard and it was quite the soft landing, no crash, like if someone flew me over to the ground" Jaune says with a fake smile and a confused look.

Onyx coughs a little while looking away, of course it was a soft landing because he sensed Jaune flying above him and he ditched the class to help him, flying over to the locker and guiding it down to the courtyard. Pyrrha of course knew better than everyone and silently mouthed a thank you to her brother.

"Jaune, you know if you ever need help, you can just ask" Pyrrha assures Jaune gently that she was there for him, she was already developing a crush on the blonde dork.

Onyx rolled his eyes because of course Pyrrha was developing a crush on Jaune, he treated her like every other person, she wasn't the invincible girl but just Pyrrha Nikos, his partner and that tugged the strings on her sister's heart. To be honest, Onyx was happy for Pyrrha…if only Jaune stopped going after Weiss like a sad lost puppy and looked to his side.

"Oh! We'll break his legs!" Nora stood up with a maniacal grin as she shared her diabolical plan.

"Count me in" Onyx comments off handedly.

"Guys, really it's fine! Besides, it's not like he's only a jerk to me" Jaune makes a small pause "He's a jerk to everyone"

"Ow, that hurts!" The cry of pain of a girl makes everyone turn around.

They see a Bunny Faunus getting her bunny ears getting tugged on by Cardin as the rest of his team laughs, Blake sneered at the sight of what was happening while Onyx's eyes narrowed dangerously to the point that he stood up and walked over to table where Cardin, the girl and Cardin's team were.

Pyrrha started panicking a little after seeing the expression on Onyx's face, it was the same expression when he got into a fight with Verde years ago. Weiss raised an eyebrow, interested in what Onyx would do while being unimpressed by Cardin.

"Let her go" Onyx tone wasn't that of a suggestion but an order and this catches team CRDL attention.

"Or what?" Cardin says with a cocky smirk as he continues tugging the girl's appendages.

"I said let her go!" Onyx yells as his ki flares, grabbing Cardin's arm and squeezing it hard.

Cardin's cocky smirk fades into a grimace of pain and this makes him let go of the girl's bunny ears and she quickly scurries away while giving Onyx a small thank you. The rest of CRDL gets ready to fight Onyx but seeing what was about to happen, Yang, Blake, Pyrrha, Nora and Ren quickly move behind their friend and teammate. Jaune uses this opportunity to walk away, not wanting to get in trouble.

"Go ahead, make my day" Yang taunts CRDL as she cracks her knuckles.

"Do anything to my brother and I'll make your lives a living hell" Pyrrha snarls.

Onyx powers down and takes a deep breath after noticing he was making quite the scene and lets go of Cardin's arm.

"Don't let me catch you doing that again next time Winchester" Onyx warns Cardin, who was muttering curses under his breath.

The young Saiyan turns around and walks away alongside her sister and friends back to their table.

"I can't stand people like them" Pyrrha's tone was full of venom

"He's not the only one" Blake points out, Pyrrha nods in agreement

"It must be hard to be a Faunus" Yang sighs, feeling bad for the girl and Onyx

"You got that right" Onyx scoffs, remembering all the treatment he got.

They watched Jaune go away silently but none of them noticed the dark look in Cardin's eye, the devil-ish smile he had as he glared at the retreating figure of the blonde dork…Cardin was planning a new game and he was going to enjoy it.

The next day, during class of Doctor Oobleck, Onyx felt like he was the only one who got the title of Bartholomew Oobleck right. The hyper professor went from side to side explaining the history of Remnant but especially the uprising of the great war and the Faunus to the point of Doctor Oobleck asking the class if anyone was the laughing stock or discriminated against by their Faunus heritage. One student raised his hand while the girl with bunny ears, who Onyx learned that she was a second year student named Velvet while doctor Oobleck did the attendance list, raised her hand in fear.

"Yeah, it's pretty much common" Onyx says, raising his hand without a second thought.

"Dreadful, simply dreadful. Remember students, it is because of this kind of ignorance that breeds violence!" Doctor Oobleck takes a sip of his coffee for like the twentieth time during class "I mean, I mean, I mean, just look what happened to White Fang!"

Onyx's face darkened at the mention of the White Fang to the point he snapped his pencil, loudly. Pyrrha had a worried look while Oobleck took a deep breath. Qrow gave a warning to the Beacon staff about what happened during that tournament and many understood what Onyx did was in self defense but for Oobleck, he understood that Onyx still held a grudge.

"Do you need some air Mr. Nikos?" Oobleck asks.

"No, I'll be fine" Onyx takes a deep breath in and out, calming down.

"Very well" The doctor nods and continues with the class.

The class went as much as they expected, discussing the event of Fort Castle and things didn't went well to Jaune who was sleeping during class only to be awakened by Cardin with a paper football and making him exclaim but this sentenced Jaune to answer what was the advantage of the Faunus over general lagune's forces.

Of course Jaune didn't answer correctly even if Pyrrha was trying to help Jaune by making signs and Cardin just chuckles at the failure of Jaune. Oobleck scolds Cardin and asks for the answer but the Bully instead uses it as another way to insult Faunus by saying that animals are easier to train than a soldier.

"You're not the most open-minded of individuals are you, Cardin?" Pyrrha says with a little venom as she glares at the bully.

"What? You got a problem?" Cardin scoffs.

"No, I got the answer, It's night vision. Many faunus are known to have nearly perfect sight in the dark" Pyrrha answers the question that Doctor Oobleck asked.

Onyx knew this very well…because he didn't have night vision, sure his sight was better than most humans but not as good as many other Faunus…another thing that made him different to his kind…he was starting to think he got a bad hand in life.

"General Lagune was inexperienced and made the mistake of trying to ambush the Faunus in their sleep. His massive army was outmatched and the general was captured" Blake continues the explanation with a condescending tone and then turns her head to glare at Cardin with a smirk "Perhaps if he'd paid attention in class, he wouldn't have been remembered as such a failure"

Cardin snarls as he slams his fist on the desk, standing up looking for a fight but Onyx does the same and stares daggers on Cardin, ready to fight too.

"Mr. Nikos and Winchester! Please take your seats" Oobbleck scold the two of them and notices Jaune laughing at his bully but it was a bad choice "Winchester and Mr. Arc can both see me after class for additional readings and Mr. Nikos, stay to, I want to have a talk with you too"

Onyx and Cardin scoff in unison and sit back down while Jaune just slumps on his chair. The class moved on as normal and when the class finished, Doctor Oobleck gave Jaune and Cardin an essay to complete for the next class.

When The two are dismissed, Oobleck sits on his desk and motions for Onyx to sit across him.

"Coffee?" Oobleck asks as he pours himself a cup.

"Please" The young Saiyan nods as he grabs a chair and sits across from the doctor.

"Mr. Nikos, I can't help but notice that you have a problem with Mr. Winchester" Oobleck points out the very obvious as he hands Onyx a cup of warm coffee, really black coffee.

"Cardin is just a jerk and has been bullying my team leader for weeks while also bullying some other Faunus around the academy" Onyx scoffs as he takes a sip of the coffee, he avoided to grimace because how bitter it was, no wonder the Doctor was really that hyper.

"Maybe that explains why Mr. Arc grades are so low" Oobleck comments, trying to find a logical reason.

"That and…well, Jaune has a lot to learn, he has heart but he lacks discipline" Onyx admits, praising his team leader yet pointing out the flaw he had while keeping in secret his lack of training.

"Is that so? I shall believe you, the Arc family is known to produce quite the huntsmen and huntresses so time will tell for Mr. Arc" Oobleck admits and takes a pause to drink his coffee "Nevertheless, I asked you to stay for a project of mine or rather, investigation, regarding your power"

"Ah…You want to know more about Ki, isn't that far from your doctorate field?" Onyx raises an eyebrow, it is the first time any of the teachers are interested in Ki and knowing Oobleck, he wants to turn it into a study subject.

"Nonsense! This is History in the making young man, you are the first student that doesn't utilize aura or has any but was trained in a different type of energy and I'm more than capable to understand how your Ki works compared to aura, I did get my major in Aura after getting my doctorate" Oobleck chuckles.

"Uh…okay but sure, We can discuss it later on" Onyx decides to agree at the end.

"Exceptional! Well now, don't let me keep you here, go on Mr. Nikos" Oobleck's tone is static as he fixes his glances.

"Thank you for the coffee Doctor" Onyx says after finishing his cup and leaving.

Time flew by and the night finally arrived, the young Saiyan noticed the awkward silence and tension between his sister and team leader. Onyx could tell that something happened between the two, something bad that left her sister stealing some glares at the dork of a leader they have.

The adopted brother could tell many things from those glances, some hurt, some anger, some disappointed and that worried him for the mere reason that Pyrrha was developing some feelings for the blonde noodle but the question laid on who of the two messed up and the expression of hopelessness in Jaune's face tells everything.

Not wanting his sister or team leader to become a burden to the team, he opted to listen to both sides of the story first and since his sister is the number one worry…he'll start interrogating her. Onyx made a good excuse to drag Pyrrha away with the claim of doing some training that Qrow left for the two and of course, his sister took the bait.

Pyrrha was surprised that Onyx didn't take her to the arena but instead to the isolated place in the courtyard that he uses to train and meditate, her stomach was telling her that maybe he didn't want to train.

"So, what happened between you and Jaune?" Onyx asks, his tone was serious and left no room for excuses.

"I…" Pyrrha look away and clenched his fist "Jaune admitted something…something that I wish was false…"

"Let me guess, that he doesn't have any training? That he probably found an illegal way to get to Beacon?" Onyx raises his eyebrow as he taps his foot.

Pyrrha flinches a little, she hates that her brother always had a good deductive mind, she wanted Jaune to come clean to the team so they all decided what to do but of course his brother already did the math and didn't say anything…maybe he can help her with this.

"Yes, he did" Pyrrha takes a deep breath "I feel…betrayed, maybe I knew all along but I wanted to have hope that he did have some training and was just untalented and not a fraud, I should have guessed when I had to unlock his Aura and had no idea what it was"

"So what if he did?" Onyx asks nonchalantly, this surprised Pyrrha as she didn't expect an answer like that.

"What do you mean brother?" Pyrrha needed to know more of what was going on in her brother's mind.

"What if he cheated his way to Beacon? What if he doesn't have training? What if he didn't have his Aura unlocked? This is a combat school, he came to learn" Onyx shrugs.

"But he faked his transcripts, he took the place of a-" Pyrrha is cut off by her brother by putting his hand on her mouth.

"Shut up, He proved himself in the initiation, he survived the initiation, he has shown that he has a tactical mind like no other, not even Ruby can match his tactics in strategy class" Onyx shares what he thinks "I'm pretty sure that Ozpin knows already, he is more perceptive than he appears…I'll admit, he has a shady side to him"

Pyrrha opened her mouth but immediately closed it, she could tell that her brother was right on this. The headmaster probably did notice that Jaune's transcripts are fake and allowed him, gave him a chance, like she wants to do but…

"The reason why you are angry isn't because he faked his way didn't he?" Onyx asks, crossing his arms.

"No…I just…I want to help him, he always wanted to come here, be a warrior like his family but he never got the chance, I want to help him achieve his dream, I'm his partner but he doesn't want my help…" Pyrrha starts sobbing.

"Of course" Onyx sighs and puts his hand on her shoulder, trying to comfort his sister "This is the problem that you and mom have, you two have a bleeding heart and are too kind…But I like that, I'm here because of those bleeding hearts of yours"

"Idiot…" Pyrrha dries her tears and smiles softly "I just wish he could accept help"

"I honestly doubt he will…but I'll talk with him when I get the chance" Onyx nods, he also wants to make sure his team leader gets the help he needs, call it him getting a rub of the bleeding heart of her sister and mother.

A short chapter divided in two for the episodes of Jaunedice and so just you know…tomorrow the second part will be posted but let's go into my notes. First, the group now get a little backstory for Onyx, that he is indeed adopted but he doesn't remember much nor that he knows his family and his own belief that he was just abandoned to die which peels a little of what Onyx thinks of himself sometimes and the reactions of his friends.

We are also getting the start of the conflict between Cardin and Onyx which will be fun at the end. Onyx also already guessed that Jaune isn't trained, actually he had an idea when he meet him and his power level was way lower than anyone. Also a small interaction with Oobleck and his curiosity. To be honest there isn't much to say of this first part so let's go ahead with the reviews you guys have posted.

Shadow Drivver: Good guesses I'll admit but you'll have to wait until it happens in the story. I will admit that the story will start diverging from Canon at some points due to…well, it's a Saiyan that is going to get stronger while some things will stay the very same. I do like the idea of Cinder pushing Onyx over the edge with Weiss being impaled but we'll see.

Triscythe59: Oh, things are planned, this is just the start and trust me, Blake is already having some thoughts.

Eli Villa: Behind every story there is always some truth to it and Port might be boastful but he is a huntsman so Onyx can see between the lines, showing that he can use his head instead of his fists. Yeah, those moments between Onyx and Weiss are cool and it's quite funny since both have a temper, one likes to answer in a more physical manner while the other has quite the sharp tongue…they kinda compliment each other like the other Saiyans.

Saiyanwarrior22: Thanks dude. The idea is for Onyx to have some more fleshed out conversations with everyone, specially on the parts that aren't Canon and some conversations here and there. Weiss and Onyx are definitely finding some common ground and will start caring more than friends at some point.
