The brilliant sunset came flowing through the window of Hawkmoth's Lair, but to Adrien, it felt like a much scarier place.
The floor was cold as sat, keeled and head bowed, as Hawkmoth cackled with victory, now in possession of the Miraculous.
"And you thought could defeat me," Hawkmoth kept his back turned. "How foolish are you? Mere children protecting two of the most powerful objects in the world."
Adrien knew he should be upset, but the anger he felt wasn't there. He was watching Marinette, sprawled out on the floor where just a few minutes ago when Hawkmoth had taken her earrings, he hadn't know who the girl was behind the mask. He was more concerned for Marinette's safety then Miraculous or his own.
Marinette looked like she was sleeping, but her eyes opened. Very slowly, she signaled to Adrien that they needed to get out of here, make a new plan. But how would they distract Hawkmoth for a long enough to escape? Marinette slowly pantomimed breaking open an egg.
Adrien was confused. "My Lady, this is no time to think about breakfast," he mouthed to her. He could almost her groan, even if it was silent. She tried again, they held her belly, and the light bulb clicked.
Hawkmoth heard movement behind him and spun around, suspicious. "What are you doing?" "Isn't obvious?" Marinette still had that snarky tone of Ladybug, and Adrien felt a surge of pride. "I'm cracking yokes with my partner."
Adrien could have kissed her, if the situation wouldn't have been so dire. "We'd batter get moving," he winked at her.
"Giving up so soon?" Hawkmoth grinned evilly, leaning on his cane. "That's a shame." "What's a shame is your a fake." "Excuse me?"
Marinette slipped Adrien's ring to him, winking. "It was a ruse, to lure us to you, and now this ends here. Ready, Kitty?" "And you thought this would end in a cat-strophe," Cat winked. The heroes called their Kwamis, while Hawkmoth yelled with rage.
It would be Ladybug and Cat will would win the day, and with a little help from some jokes and pantomime.
