The warm sunlight filtered through the large windows of the café, casting a gentle glow on the wooden tables and the colorful array of pastries displayed behind the counter. The cheerful chatter of patrons and the soft clinking of coffee cups created a lively yet cozy atmosphere.

Rika was seated at a window table, her hands wrapped around a steaming cup of coffee. She was talking rapidly, her words spilling out almost breathlessly as Keiko listened with a mix of amusement and concern.

"He should show some restraint! It's like any girl will do for him. Seriously, he just keeps eyeing down every girl he comes across!" Rika's frustration was evident in her tone and the way she fidgeted with her cup.

Keiko laughed softly, her eyes twinkling. "You really didn't hold back at the party, huh? I think you gave him enough of an earful for everyone."

Rika sighed, stirring her coffee nervously. "Well, somebody had to reel him back in! I felt such second-hand embarrassment just from knowing the guy."

The two girls were discussing their most recent encounter with Ryoutaro, the man once known as Klein of Fuurinkazan. Rika herself had gone by the name of Lisbeth the Blacksmith, while Keiko had survived that world as Silica the Dragon Tamer. During the "SAO Survivors Reunion" that was held at the Dicey Café just three days prior, Ryoutaro had attempted flirting with nearly every girl present.

"You really do care about him, don't you?" Keiko said with a warm smile. "You're like his big sister."

Rika blushed slightly, her defensive tone betraying her embarrassment. "W-wha- oh, whatever! It's not like that. I mean… he's a dork and all, but… he is still our friend. We need to look out for him, right?"

Keiko's smile widened, a teasing glint in her eyes. "You're so cute, Rika. You have the biggest heart there is."

Rika looked away, her cheeks flushing deeper. "Geez Keiko, don't start teasing me…"

As the conversation progressed, Keiko's expression softened, and she watched Rika with a mix of admiration and slight envy. The topic shifted, and Rika's eyes grew wistful.

"I mean, did you see those two? Kazuto and Asuna, fawning all over each other?" Rika's voice held a hint of longing.

Keiko sighed, pouting a little. "I know… It's so unfair…"

The café's door chimed gently as Kazuto entered, his casual appearance blending in with the laid-back atmosphere. He spotted Rika and Keiko at their window seat and made his way over, a friendly smile on his face.

"Hey, Rika, Keiko. Mind if I join you for a bit?" Kazuto asked, his grin widening as he approached.

Keiko, a bit surprised, forced a smile. "Oh, hi Kazuto! Sure, have a seat."

Rika looked up, her expression shifting quickly from surprise to a welcoming smile. "Hey, Kazuto! What brings you here?"

Kazuto sat down, his tone casual. "Just finished up some stuff at school. Thought I'd stop by for a coffee on the way home. Actually, Rika, I was wondering if you'd like to join me at a new café I found after school tomorrow? They've got some great desserts."

Rika, taken aback by the invitation, hesitated for a moment, her cheeks coloring slightly. "Uh, sure, that sounds nice. I'd love to check it out."

Keiko watched the exchange, her smile faltering slightly as she stirred her coffee, feeling a pang of jealousy at the easy camaraderie between Kazuto and Rika. Trying to keep the conversation light, she said, "You two always find the coolest places. Make sure you bring back some recommendations!"

Kazuto nodded, noticing the subtle change in Keiko's demeanor but choosing to address it with gentle tact. "Absolutely! Next time, we should all go together. I bet they have some amazing cakes that you'd love, Keiko."

Keiko perked up a bit at the inclusion, her mood lightening. "That sounds great! Let's definitely plan for that."

The cozy atmosphere of Linden Café provided a comforting backdrop as Rika and Kazuto sat across from each other at a small wooden table near the window. The café was known for its warm, rustic charm, with wooden beams and shelves lined with books and plants. The gentle murmur of conversations and the clinking of cups created a soothing ambiance. Despite this, Rika was visibly nervous, twisting a napkin in her hands beneath the table. Kazuto, oblivious to her turmoil, perused the menu with a relaxed demeanor.

Rika muttered under her breath, half to herself, "Of course, I should've known this would happen."

Kazuto looked up from the menu, curiosity piqued. "What do you mean?"

Rika forced a laugh, shrugging off her initial comment. "Oh, nothing... just thought we might talk about... other stuff."

Catching on but deciding to tread lightly, Kazuto steered the conversation toward a safer topic. "Actually, I was hoping to ask you about something related to crafting. I'm thinking of getting a special piece of jewelry made for Asuna. You know, something unique. Do you think you could ask around the dwarves' guild for any leads?"

Rika nodded, her anxiety easing slightly as the conversation turned to familiar territory. "Yeah, of course! I know a few good craftsmen who specialize in custom pieces. I'll see what I can find out."

A waitress approached their table, setting down their orders. Rika had chosen a slice of strawberry cheesecake and a cup of green tea, while Kazuto opted for a blueberry muffin and a cappuccino. The sweet aroma of their treats mingled with the rich scent of freshly brewed coffee, adding to the café's inviting atmosphere.

Kazuto took a sip of his cappuccino before continuing. "Thanks, Rika. I really want it to be special for her."

Rika smiled, feeling more at ease. "Asuna's going to love it. You always know how to make her feel special."

Kazuto's expression brightened with the mention of Asuna. "Speaking of Asuna, I'm planning to take her to the festival this weekend. Klein… I mean Ryoutaro's coming along too. Maybe you could join us? It could be fun, you know, all of us together."

Rika paused, her fork halfway to her mouth, processing the implication. She set down her fork, frowning slightly. "You mean like a double date?"

Kazuto, realizing he might have overstepped, rushed to clarify. "I-I get it. It's not... It's just a group thing. Nothing serious. But, uh, just think about it, okay?"

Rika gave a small nod, her expression thoughtful yet reserved. She wasn't enthused about the idea of being set up with Ryoutaro, her mind racing with the complications that might entail. She sighed softly, trying to sound nonchalant. "Sure, I'll think about it. It sounds like it could be... interesting."

Kazuto sensed her hesitation and offered a reassuring smile. "No pressure. Just wanted to include you. It's always more fun with friends."

Rika took a bite of her cheesecake, the sweet, creamy flavor calming her nerves. "Thanks, Kazuto. I appreciate it. I'll see what I can find out about that jewelry, too. The dwarves' guild has some of the best craftsmen around."

Kazuto nodded, taking a bite of his muffin. "That would be great. I want something that really stands out."

The conversation shifted to more light-hearted topics, and Rika found herself relaxing into the familiar rhythm of their friendship. They shared stories of their recent adventures in ALfheim Online, laughing about their encounters with various monsters and quests.

"So, have you tried that new dungeon on the eastern edge of Alfheim?" Kazuto asked, his eyes lighting up with excitement.

Rika shook her head. "Not yet, but I've heard it's pretty challenging. Maybe we could all tackle it together sometime."

"Sounds like a plan," Kazuto agreed, finishing his cappuccino.

As they continued their meal, the tension slowly ebbed away, replaced by the comfort of familiar company. The sun began to set outside, casting a warm glow through the café windows, as they shared more stories and laughter, the earlier awkwardness fading into the background. The promise of new memories and shared moments lingered in the air, as comforting as the aroma of freshly brewed coffee.

Rika walked briskly along the sidewalk, her heart set on finding Kazuto. As she approached the agreed meeting place, she spotted him around the corner, deep in conversation with Asuna. They were sitting close, their expressions earnest and tender. She paused, leaning against the wall, her heart sinking as she watched them, feeling a mixture of admiration and a pang of longing.

"They really are perfect for each other..." Rika muttered to herself; her voice barely audible over the city's ambience.

The vibrant decorations and the cheerful atmosphere around her contrasted sharply with the turmoil in her heart. The streetlights warm glow cast a soft light on Kazuto and Asuna, highlighting their closeness. Just then, a voice from behind startled her.

"Hey, Rika, what's happening?" Ryoutaro's voice broke through her thoughts.

Rika jumped, letting out a short scream. "Klein! What the heck!? Why were you sneaking up on me like that?" She turned to see Ryoutaro, his familiar goofy grin spreading across his face.

"Sorry, sorry!" he said, scratching his head awkwardly. "Wasn't trying to scare you. I was on my way to pick up Kiri-dude. His motorcycle is getting maintenance, so I'm the designated driver today."

Rika glanced back towards Kazuto and Asuna, their conversation uninterrupted. She sighed, feeling a sense of helplessness wash over her. "Well, as you can see..." she motioned towards the couple, "It looks like he's busy at the moment."

Ryoutaro followed her gaze and spotted Kazuto and Asuna. With a dramatic wave, he called out, "Oh, there he is! Hey, Kiri-dude!"

Rika quickly grabbed Ryoutaro's arm and pulled him aside, her voice a whisper of frustration.

"Are you daft? They're obviously sharing a very special moment right now!"

Ryoutaro looked at her, his smile widening. "But isn't every moment with them a special moment?"

Rika stared at him, exasperated. "H-huh? Ryoutaro... are you stupid?"

"Maybe," he replied, his grin turning mischievous, "or maybe your angelic beauty has just left me dumbstruck."

Rika let out a sigh, her frustration mingling with reluctant amusement. "Still trying, huh?"

"You miss every shot you don't take!" Ryoutaro said, his tone light but sincere.

Just then, Kazuto noticed them and called out. "Hey Ryou, good timing! Oh, Rika, you're here too! Decided to join us after all?"

Asuna noticed Rika and rushed over with a wide smile, embracing her warmly. "Oh, I'm so glad you decided to come along!"

Caught off guard but touched by the gesture, Rika managed a wobbly smile. "Uh... yeah, of course! Anything for the lovebirds! Ha-ha..."

Asuna's embrace was comforting, and for a moment, Rika felt her worries ease. "It wouldn't be the same without you," Asuna said, her voice filled with genuine affection.

Kazuto nodded in agreement. "Let's go make some memories, right?"

The sun hung low in the sky, casting a warm, golden glow through the car windows. The vibrant colors of the festival decorations flashed by as Ryoutaro navigated the winding streets. Inside the car, laughter and excitement filled the air, a stark contrast to the tense atmosphere they had known in Aincrad.

Ryoutaro glanced at the GPS, a confident grin spreading across his face. "Okay, I think we're on the right track this time. No detours, I promise!"

Kazuto chuckled from the passenger seat. "Better be, Ryou. We can't handle another 'adventure' like last time."

"Hey, that turned out to be fun, didn't it?" Ryoutaro shot back, his grin widening. "Besides, I've got this all under control."

Rika leaned forward between the seats, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. "Let's hope so. I've been looking forward to this festival for a while. What about you, Asuna?"

Asuna's smile was radiant. "Definitely. I heard they have an amazing fireworks display planned for tonight."

Ryoutaro's excitement was contagious. "Fireworks, games, food... It's going to be epic!"

Kazuto raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk on his lips. "Just remember, Ryou, we're here to have fun together. No wandering off to chase after girls, alright?"

Feigning innocence, Ryoutaro placed a hand over his heart. "Who, me? I'm a perfect gentleman!"

Rika rolled her eyes, unable to suppress a grin. "Sure you are. Just keep your eyes on the road and not on every girl we pass."

"Okay, okay. Focus on driving, got it," Ryoutaro laughed.

Asuna giggled, the sound light and infectious. "What are you guys looking forward to the most at the festival?"

Kazuto's eyes lit up. "I'm actually interested in the VR game demo they're setting up. It's supposed to utilize the AmuSphere in some unique ways."

Ryoutaro shook his head, amused. "Of course, Kazuto would be drawn to the VR stuff. I'm all about the food. Takoyaki, yakitori, you name it!"

Rika's competitive spirit shone through. "I'm excited for the shooting games. I'm going to win a prize, and it won't be another giant plush octopus."

Asuna teased playfully. "That octopus was cute, though..."

Rika met her gaze with a raised eyebrow.

Asuna stifling her laughter. "But I get it, something different would be nice."

Ryoutaro turned to look at her briefly. "You know, Rika, if you need help winning a prize, I'm your guy."

"Thanks, but I've got this. You just worry about not getting lost," Rika quipped.

Kazuto changed the topic, "Hey, it's so nice to do things like this again, right? After everything in SAO, it feels surreal."

Asuna nodded, "Yeah, it's amazing to be out and enjoying real-life activities. We've come a long way."

Rika smiled, "Agreed. It's great to be with everyone again, making new memories."

Ryoutaro's enthusiasm was infectious. "Heck yeah! This is going to be the best festival ever."

Kazuto's eyes gleamed with excitement. "Alright, let's make it a day to remember! We're almost there."

Asuna's eyes sparkled. "I can't wait. This is going to be amazing!"

The festival was in full swing, the air filled with the sounds of laughter and music. Colorful lanterns hung above, swaying gently in the evening breeze. Stalls lined the streets, offering a variety of games and delicious food, their vibrant colors creating a lively, festive atmosphere. The sweet and savory aromas mingled, making the air almost taste like a promise of good times.

Rika watched Ryoutaro, who was grinning as he looked around, his eyes frequently darting to the girls in colorful kimonos. She sighed, exasperation creeping into her voice. "Seriously, Ryoutaro? Can you focus on something other than girls for once?"

Ryoutaro, seemingly distracted, turned to her with a sheepish smile. "Huh? Oh, come on, Rika, I'm just impressed by all the different kinds of kimonos. We're here to have fun, right?"

Rika's annoyance was evident as she crossed her arms. "Yeah, but could you at least try to have fun with us?"

Ryoutaro laughed, the sound blending into the festival's cheerful cacophony. "Alright, alright. I'll get us some Takoyaki. Be right back."

As Ryoutaro headed towards the Takoyaki stand, Rika felt a twinge of suspicion. She followed him, her eyes narrowing as she saw him chatting and laughing with the cashier, who was clearly flirting to make a sale. Rika approached the stand, her hands on her hips.

"Ryoutaro, what are you doing?" she demanded, her voice cutting through the ambient noise.

Ryoutaro turned, startled. "Rika! Just getting us some Takoyaki."

Rika's scolding tone didn't waver. "Looks more like you're trying to get her number. Can't you keep your focus on one thing at a time?"

Klein raised his hands defensively. "Hey, she started it! I'm just being friendly."

"Friendly? You mean easily distracted. Get the food and let's go," Rika insisted, crossing her arms tighter.

Klein sighed, his shoulders slumping. "Alright, alright."

They returned to the group, but Rika's mood had visibly soured. The festival's vibrant atmosphere contrasted sharply with her growing frustration. Asuna, ever perceptive, noticed and approached her with a look of concern.

"Rika, are you okay? You seem a bit down," Asuna asked gently.

Rika forced a smile, though it didn't reach her eyes. "I'm fine, Asuna. Just a bit tired, I guess."

Asuna's eyes softened with understanding. "Come on, Rika. I know something's bothering you. You can talk to me."

Rika sighed, her shoulders relaxing slightly. "It's just... Ryoutaro. He can't seem to focus on anything or anyone for more than a few minutes. It's frustrating."

"I'm sorry, Rika. Maybe he just needs a little more time to grow up. In the meantime, how about we take a break? We can leave the boys to their fun," Asuna suggested, her voice comforting.

Rika nodded, grateful for the support. "Yeah, I think I need that. Thanks, Asuna."

Asuna smiled warmly. "Anytime. Let me tell Kazuto we're leaving."

Asuna walked over to Kazuto, who was chatting with Ryoutaro. "Kazuto, Rika and I are going to head out. We'll meet up with you before the fireworks, okay?"

Kazuto's brow furrowed with concern. "Is everything alright?"

Asuna's smile was reassuring. "Everything's fine. Just some girl time."

Kazuto nodded, though the concern didn't leave his eyes. "Alright, take care."

Ryoutaro, looking bummed out, piped up. "For real? You're going to miss out on all the great food!"

Asuna laughed lightly. "Be sure to balance all that fried food with some vegetables, Klein! And that goes for you too, Kazuto!"

Kazuto glanced at the Takoyaki he was holding, a worried expression crossing his face.

Ryoutaro shooed them with one hand. "Yeah yeah, go have fun you two."

Asuna and Rika started to walk away from the festival, the colorful lights reflecting in their eyes.

Rika's voice was tinged with guilt. "Asuna, I'm sorry for ruining your date with Kazuto."

Asuna shook her head, her expression kind. "You didn't ruin anything, Rika. Kazuto and I will always have time for more dates. Right now, you need a friend, and I'm here for you."

Rika smiled through her sadness, touched by Asuna's words. "Thank you, Asuna. You're the best."

Asuna hugged her, the warmth of the embrace a balm to Rika's aching heart. "No problem. Let's go get some ice cream and find some games, okay?"

Rika nodded, her spirits lifting. "Yeah, that sounds perfect."

The two friends walked away, their steps lightening as they left the bustling festival behind.

Rika and Asuna sat at an outdoor café, enjoying the drifting embers of a setting sun and the cool taste of their ice cream. The bustling festival provided a lively backdrop, but their conversation turned to more nostalgic topics.

"You know, Asuna," Rika began, licking at her strawberry ice cream, "Klein was different in SAO. Sure, he was a goofball, but he had this... maturity, this reliability. Out here, in the real world, he just can't seem to stick to anything or anyone."

Asuna listened intently, her eyes soft with understanding. "It's hard to transition back," she said gently. "We all had roles in SAO that gave us purpose. It's different now."

Rika sighed, a wistful smile tugging at her lips. "Maybe I'm being too impatient. It's just..." She trailed off, looking down at her ice cream. "I wish I had someone who treated me the way Kazuto treats you."

Asuna's brow furrowed slightly, her heart aching for her friend. "I wish I could introduce you to someone amazing, but... I don't know many guys myself." She chuckled softly, a hint of self-deprecation in her voice. "I guess I'm not the best matchmaker."

Rika laughed, shaking her head. "Oh, Asuna, you don't have to worry about that! You went to an all-girls school, then got trapped in SAO, and then..." She caught herself, not wanting to dredge up the painful memories of Alfheim Online. "My point is," she continued, squeezing Asuna's hand, "you've been an amazing friend. That's more than enough."

Asuna smiled warmly. "Thanks, Rika."

A quiet moment filled the air as they briefly turned their attention to the dessert in their hands. Asuna broke the silence first, "How about Takeru from Class B? He's got that nice guy vibe."

Rika raised an eyebrow. "Takeru? Yeah, he's cute, but... he's way too straight-laced for me. I need someone with a bit more fire, you know?"

They exchanged a knowing look before bursting into laughter, the sound light and carefree. As their laughter subsided, they finished their ice cream, savoring the last sweet bites.

"How about we hit the shooting arcade next?" Asuna suggested, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

Rika grinned, her spirit reignited. "You're on!"
