Singularity F: AD 2004-
The smell of smoke and ash messed with my sense that I didn't see the ambush. But luck Mash and my team were there to save me. Though I was surprised our number has grown.
-Scott
Skeleton barely has to flee as Mash brings her shield down at it. Scatter the bones across the bridge. Like most areas, it has seen better days but more cars as it seemed they were trying to flee away. Scott thinks most likely they were going to meet whoever was causing this problem.
"Good work Mash!" Susie praises her. She said as she got to her side.
"Thank you, Senpai!" Mash nodded along. Scott saw her look at him for approval, to which he gave her a nod and she beamed. He does not used to look up to him for praise. Especially someone stronger than he is.
"We better get moving. Olga and the others are waiting." Scott points out to the girls as he walks ahead of them. They need and begin to follow. They turn to him and their eyes widen.
"Scott get back!" Susie shouted, and they swiped in front of him. He turn a saw blade coming right for his eyeball.
Crash!
Mash quickly got in between him and his attacker. Susie sized his wrist and pulled him back. The thing that attacked had a disgusting smell that made Scott's skin crawl. It smells of rotting flesh and poison fowl. The being in front of them was nothing more than a shadow. But it hunches over like an old. When he speaks the voice sounds rust, creaking.
"I found it. New prey. The Grail shall be mine!" There beep on Susie's watch and she clicks the side button.
"Servant's signal confirmed, it's an Assassin-class Servant!" Romani's voice told them. Scott's mind race, Assassin was strong against Riders class but weak to Caster. He didn't think Mash was Caster. Maybe Saber with the sword but it was hard to tell. Assassin mostly uses poisons so Mash can't get hit by them or she'll die.
"I can fight! Senpai, please give me your orders!" Mash asked him, never taking his eyes off the Assassin.
"They're quick but look lack they lack in strength. Use your strength against him and watch his blade it might be poison." He advised her. Mash nodded and quickly lunged forward at the enemy. The crash, sparks flew as they did. Mash uses her shield to block the draggers but can't get a good hit on them because they are so fast.
Susie and Scott move farther behind.
"Come on I have an idea!" Susie told him leading him to one of the cars. Scott followed her as she went into the car and opened the door. Scott was beside her, looking behind them at the fight in case something happened. His eyes darted back and forth between the two fighters as they fought on.
"Whatever you have planned Susie better do it quick!" He hissed. He heard going through the back seat of the car.
"Let me see…there!" She pulls out an oil can.
Scott looks confused, "How can that help?" He asked her.
"If we aim just right we trip up the assassin but we need to time it perfectly." She looks at the two fighters, "And you need to be ready to pull Mash back when I get this so she doesn't trip up." Scott nodded, it seemed like a good plan as soon as Susie got out of the car. Scott turns to the battlefield and sees that Assassin jumps with draggers out and Mash holding up her shield.
Perfect.
"Mash!" Scott shouted getting her attention. Her purple eyes lock to his as his magic circuits flare up as he uses a Mystic Codes(*), "Get back!" He used Emergency Evasion to boost Mash's speed. The young woman felt the world stood in crawling and she easily got away from Assassin.
Assassin meanwhile couldn't stop his moment in time as Susie threw the can of oil down. This causes the servant to lose their balance. Mash took this chance to bring her shield down to crash his head.
Only for naginata to stop her.
"What?!" Susie shouted in disbelief. Mash was shocked too but quickly knocked the naginata away. She jumped back and went over in front of Susie and Scott to protect them.
"There another servant?" Scott question. Damn it! The smoke and ash mess with his scent of smell. He didn't see this other servant coming in. They took cover in shadow, the same smell of rot from Assassin but even Scott could tell that this one was taller, muscular than Assassin.
Assassin turns to the new servant, "This is a waste of time. I could have handled this on my own." They hissed. It was hard to make out what the other servant was thinking because without the face Scott could feel the other was smirking.
"And let you have all the fun? Now don't be greedy." Other said.
"Lancer…" Susie mumbled, "The fast, prefer hit and run tactics. Used a lot of range and speed." Susie mumbled as she listed all they had learned while studying for this mission.
Scott's eyes dart to Mash who didn't take her eyes off the servants. He walks closer to her and whispers.
"Mash you have to get in close to Lancer and take him down. But focus on Assassin they would try to sneak on you during the fight and the weakness between them." He suggests to her.
Mash nodded, "Understood." She narrowed her eyes at the shadow servant.
The Assassin one giggled, "Ha! Futile! Fight, then you die. Run, and you still die. The demise of the futile, oh so miserable."
"Go ahead and struggle. Miserable people are ever so entertaining." The Lancer added, their eyes glared.
"..Even so, we must fight. I will find a way to get out of this alive!" Mash declared.
Assassin let out a cruel laugh, "Ha— You've just killed yourself, girl!" He darted forward with a flash of their blade reflected in flames. Mash blocks his blows, making an opening for Shadow Lancer to strike her with a spear. But lucky she moved so the blush by her hair and she knew the spear away. But Assassin saw her neck exposed and aimed for her jugular. "Mash!" Susie shouted but there was a dark flash that stopped Dragger. Another went after Shadow Assassin who stepped away. But then fire hit them square in the chest. Stopping the Shadow Assassin in his tracks.
"What the-" They growled with a lively laugh as a man with a fluffy hoodie walked forward. He has a light blue hoodie-wearing with a knit with a symbol on it. "What do you mean? Can't you tell? Don't tell me the mud got in your eyes too?" The newcomer taunted. The Lancer servant's eyes widen.
"Curse you, Caster! Why are you siding with a Wanderer?" They growled. Scott's nose twitched and he turned to see Olga and her group behind them.
"Director!" Susie breathed a sigh of relief. Two groups rush to each other as the battle rages on.
"Are you guys ok?" Haelth asked them as they got close.
"We find all these consider," Scott grumbled.
"Hanover status report," Olga ordered Susie. Who stood in attention.
"We woke up in the city with Scott and Mash at our side. Scott becomes the master of Mash who successfully becomes Demi-Servent." She explains to the Director.
Olga grumbled, "I can see that Hanover! But how? The experiment failed," Scott frowns at the mention of that and Oliver's eyes widen, "Why now of all times." Susie for her didn't react.
"I don't madam. My guess is that because her life is in danger Servent within awakens and gives her their powers." She explains. Olga looks annoyed at the explanation but sighs.
"I guess…things couldn't get worse," She sighed.
Susie nodded, "Indeed! Mash has been good access and Scott has been taking well as a master." Scot looks down as people look at him.
"It's nothing," He glanced back at the fight. Mash smacks the Lancer away with the back of the shield. With enough force a normal human who has their neck broken. But Lancer straight their self up and slam the butt of the spear to the ground. But the silver-haired man pushed Mash out of the way. Her eyes widened as the newcomer took the curse.
"No!" She is about to rush after the man but Scott spots something at her side.
"Mash to your right!" Mash didn't question it and held up her shield. Knock the blades off their court. Caster uses rune magic to send fire down on the servant. The blur almost got Assassin who dodged and glared at the pink-haired servant.
"Oh, I'm going to enjoy this." The blindfolded woman with as venom as she crashes with Shadow Servant.
"Who is that?" Susie asked her eyes widening.
"That is Medusa and Siegfried," Haelth answer her. She grabs Oliver's wrist to show off his and her Command Seals(*), "We Masters now." She told them.
Susie nodded, "Well that's good." She said. Scott never took his eye off the fight the Servant quickly turned the tide of battle and Medusa paralyzed Shadow Assassin as she uncovered her eyes. Siegfried came up from behind them and took off Assassin's head. Shadow Lancer quickly realized the tides of the battle of turning, they quickly turned tail and ran.
"Oi!" The blue-haired man shouted, "Don't run away coward! Come and face us like man!" He shouted but another Shadow Servant was running. Medusa was about to lunge at him. To teach him a lesson about turning their back on a monster. But as they passed the car wreckage, the sound of metal being shed and light glimmering was all the warning the Shadow Servant got before they were cut into six pieces.
"Woah!" Oliver exclaimed as the Shadow Servant disappeared. Not that Scott blames him. He was surprised they all were.
"Apologize," A long-hair person-no servant stepped out from the shadows, "I didn't mean to steal your opponent but my master was keen on getting back to your group." The servant said. Everyone was surprised at this. Was there another master? And they want to meet them.
Susie was the one who spoke up.
"Who your mas-"
"That would be~" A high-pitched voice sang out. The group besides the servants has different fractions. Range from surprised to excited to dread.
"Oh no," Scott rubbed his temples while Haelth squeaked.
"Melody is home~" As if the devil himself came out Melody stepped out from the shadows. Scott groaned while Susie and Haelth smiled. Oliver looks confused along with other servants besides Assassin. But Olga…she was mad.
"Kris!" She stomped over to them. Melody smiled and held their hands like they were greeted by a friend.
"Director is good to see you-" Olga grabbed their shoulder and pulled them down so they put them at eye level.
"You were supposed to be on lockdown. How did you get out?" She hissed at them. Melody didn't mind in fact, they laughed.
"I heard the exploration and I came out to help a poor little team like a good member of Team B," They mock concerned tone of voice, "Should not have done that Director? Should I have stayed put and let you all die? I thought that we were supposed to complete the mission no matter what." They pointed out.
Olga's face turns red, "You avoiding the question. How did you escape?" She presses them for questions.
Melody hymn, "Well if must know," They grow a more serious face, "The bomb knows some of the bonds up. But I was almost trapped as the door was jammed. I had to use my magecraft to get out." They explained, "I head my way to Command Room as fast as possible." Melody told their story. Everyone besides the servants has different to it.
"Oh, that's so cool!" Haelth exclaims happily.
Olga made a face but Susie put her hand on her shoulder.
"I know you have a lot of questions and so do I." She said her eyes dart to Melody who was happily talking to Haelth, "But Melody is our best magecraft user here." She pointed out.
Olga made a face, "I know that. But, they got out of their cell." She hissed out. Scott kinda has to agree with this. It was weird that Melody was looking through the Director's files before the bombs went off. And how did they get into the Command Room without them noticing or hell getting out of their cell? His eyes dart to Susie waiting for her answer. She was the leader of Team B which means it's her choice.
Susie was quiet for a moment. She looks over to Melody and then back to Olga.
"Director for right now let Melody come along with us until we get back." She suggests.
Olga's eyes widen, "What? Why?" The short woman asked her. Narrowing her golden in suspicion at the dark-skinned woman.
"Because if Melody was sending off the bombs they killed earlier or not get caught sneaking around," Susie noticed the look on Olga's face so she added, "Look I know it seems dangerous but we do need the help and later we get to question them later." She looks over to Melody, "Right now we need to solve this Singularity and then head back to Chaldea." Susie told her plan.
"..." Olga was silent for a moment before speaking, "Fine but when we get back I'm going to get my answers." She told her. Olga walks over to Melody and Haelth, barking orders. While Susie look a bit nervous behind her back. Scott came up before behind her.
"I do have to agree with the Director," His green eyes flicker toward her, "This is a big risk."
Susie sighed, "I know but we getting by the skin of our teeth." She points out, "We got no choice."
"I don't think Melody-senpai is bad." Mash spoke up, "They did come to our recuse." She pointed out.
Susie nodded, "That's what I'm saying. Let's just give them a chance ok?" She asked Scott.
Scott huffed, "OK sure." Susie smiled and so did Mash. Scott still narrows his eyes at Melody. They were hiding something and he will find out. And act accordingly.
"Melody," Melody pipes up hearing their true last name from Olga, "You are coming with us but when we get back you answer how you got out," Olga said crossing.
Melody smirked, "Director I'm hurt." They said mocking their chest as if they were in pain, "I thought you trusted little old me." They narrowed their eyes at her, "Or you don't?" Olga looked a bit nervously but Melody continued, "You know while I'm not the most trustworthy individual I know I would at least think that you have some form of trust in me. Or is there something else you want to tell me?" They asked in a low tone of voice before walking to her. Olga's eyes flew open but before a fight broke out Scott got between them.
"Ok you have your fun Melody," He said as he narrowed his eyes at them, "Now it's time to prove your worth." He pointed out.
Melody gave him an annoyed look but sighed, "Fine! The fun police are here." The joked. Scott rolled his eyes, what a drama queen.
"Well, aren't you guys a lively bunch?" Scott turns to see the blue-haired servant walking toward them. The servant has an easy-going grin on his face as he walks toward them. It was Mash run up to him and bowed.
"Uh, excuse me… Thank you very much, for saving us from danger…" Mash said to the servant. The servant smiles at her in a coy way and Scott gives a deadpan look.
"Hey, good work. You don't owe me for this, so don't worry about it. You should be more worried about your body. That damn Assassin kept targeting your butt like a pest!" The blue-haired Servant wraps his arms around her shoulder.
"Oh!" Mash blinked in surprise as he did.
"Hey, you look fragile but you have a pretty nice body! Icing on the cake!" He gives her a good-natured smile while Mash looks confused. Scott feels uneasy in his stomach seeing the servant smile. He heard Haelth growl out of the courter of his eye he saw Umber holding her back.
"Stop you idiot! Do you want to get yourself killed?" They growled.
"But he's being a creep to Mash!" She hissed. They peek at her ear, flap their wing, and grab their shirt back. Despite their small size, they were quite strong.
"I can kill him if want," Medusa said, holding up her dragger. The two stop and look at her like they are considering it.
"Cool it you guys," Susie said, frowning in disappointment at them. They step back respectfully as Susie steps forward. She nodded and gave the rogue servant a pointed look, "And I know where you get your matters but don't do that. Mash," She looked at her soften a bit, "Don't need that right now."
The rogue servant holds his hands in the air as if he is surrounded.
"Alright, right, I know when someone is not interested but hey I like strong women." He gives them an easy-going grin.
Scott steps forward, getting in between him and Mash which amuses the servant.
"Have you no shame?" He asked.
"Nope!" The servant smiled at him.
Susie narrowed her eyes at him. Looking like she getting a headache from his attitude but took a breath. Olga steps right next to her and whispers something to her.
Susie shook her head, "Without a doubt, he's an old pervert."
"Hey!" The rogue servant exclaimed but Susie ignored him.
"...an he's an ally, maybe? He did help us when we were in trouble." Before the servant can answer Susie watches a beep and a hologram of Romani appears as she presses it.
"For now, let's get some information. He seems to be a decent Heroic Spirit." Romani suggest.
The new servant tilted his head at the hologram, "Oh, so someone who wants to cut to the chase. What is this? Some means of communication through magecraft?" He asked as waved his hand at the hologram. The image of Romani fuzz and flicks a bit before Susie shooed him.
"Hey don't do that or mess it too much." She told him.
The servant dips his head, "Ok, little lady." He said stepping back.
Romani quickly got back on track, "Well met, Caster Servant. I don't know which Heroic Spirit you are, but we have nothing but respect and awe for you." He said respectfully.
The servant rolled his eyes, "Oh, spare me your remarks. I'm sick of hearing them. State your business, weakling. Isn't that what you're good at?" He snapped.
Oliver's eyes widen, "Woah.."
Haelth narrowed her eyes, "Hey! Don't mean to Doctor!" She growled.
Scott narrowed his eyes as well and Susie crossed her arms.
"The Doctor may be a weakling," Romani rubbed the back of his head, "But that's no reason to rude."
The servant shrugs, "That just the way I'm am. I call it like I see it." He said nonchalantly. Haelth narrows her eyes but Scott holds her back. They can't push his buttons too much because he is still a servant. He could easily kill them.
Romani hangs his head low, "Uh… I-I see. All right then…. Weakling… I got called a weakling from someone I've met for the first time."
Susie steps forward, "Caster, I can tell why we are here but it's a long story and you may not believe us."
The servant no Caster smirk, "Try me." He said popping one hand under his chin with the easy-going look. Susie nodded and she and Romani told him everything. Caster seems to relax around Romani maybe because Susie vouch for him. Scott didn't know that made him a gentleman or a pervert.
"...And that's the current situation in Chaldea. Currently, Team B is the acting Master and is in the middle of field research. Let me confirm something. You're a Servant from the Holy Grail War that broke out in this city, and the sole survivor?" Romani asked of the servant.
Caaster rubs the back of his neck, "If by that you mean I haven't lost. Our Holy Grail War changed to something else entirely along the way." He looked into the burning city, "I don't know how it happened either. The city was engulfed in flames, and the humans vanished. Only the Servants remained. Saber was the first to resume the Holy Grail War. That chap began rampaging like a tiger released from a cage. Archer, Lancer, Rider, Berserker, and Assassin were all defeated by Saber." Scott could smell wariness from Medusa.
"A Saber huh?" She mumbled to herself.
Haelth looked at her, "Is everything alright?" She asked the tall woman.
Medusa turns to her, "Nothing master just," She turns her head to the forest, "Just bad feeling." She told her. Haelth's lips form into straight lines. But Mash spoke up.
"And in the end you won, Caster… Or rather, you're the Servant who survived." She pointed out. Scott steps beside his servant.
"She right." Everyone turns to him, "This won't end until either you or your Master dies." Speaking of, where was his Master? Again Caster can afford to be away from the Masters for a very long time, "Or Saber dies."
Caster sighs, "Yes. Any Servant that was defeated by Saber became like those two, corrupted by the black mud. They, and the monsters that sprung up like maggots, started looking for something together. The troublesome part is that I'm one of the things they're looking for. You see, the Holy Grail War won't end until I'm killed."
"Did you and your master have a plan to defend Saber?" He asked him.
Caster rubs the back of his head, "Here's the thing, I don't have one."
Scott blinked in confusion, "Wait what?" He asked in disbelief.
"It's true, my Master died during the Saber's rampage. I only survive thanks to my class," Caster explained, before signing, "If I'd been summoned as a Lancer, I could've finished off Saber with just one strike. Man, Caster is just not for me. I don't like being a Caster in a Holy Grail War like this."
"Wait Servants can have different classes(*)?" Oliver asked his servant Siegfried.
"Some servants can appear in different classes based on our legend." He explains, "Some of our legends are big enough that we appear in different classes. After there some of us can use other types of weapons or throughout our legends change."
Oliver nodded, "Oh that makes sense." He look at Caster, "So you were also Lancer? What's your True Name(*)?" Everyone blinked or turned their heads at him. Oliver looks at all of them confused and backs up a bit.
"Ha! You bold." Caster chucked.
"What?" He asked questioning them. It was Siegfried who answered him.
"Well, you see Master that saying our True Names more often than not reveals our weakness. Which is why we guard so carefully." He told him.
Oliver's eyes widen at that information, "Oh jeez! I'm so sorry I didn't mean often you-" He was cut off by Caster laughing at him.
"It's fine! Really! Since we are allies I'll tell you my True Name!" He spins his staff and puffs out his chest, "My True Name is Cú Chulainn(*)." He answers with a grin.
Scott's, Oliver's, Olga's and Haelth's eyes widen at the name.
"Cú Chulainn? Like Ireland's child of light?" Haelth question. Caster-no Cú nodded.
"Yep, the very same one!" He confirmed. Haelth excitedly squealed while Umber rolled their eyes.
"Really over this one?" They questioned. Haelth twists her head to lock eyes with them on her shoulder.
"He's like Irish Heracles Umber! Come on!" She told them. The demon rolled their eyes.
"W-well," Olga coughed, "Having Cú Chulainn will be good in the long run but there's no need to get excited over it." Scott almost snorts. She was just as happy as Haelth. Though Olga was a little more cautious. Not that Scott could blame her fully as a hero and feats of Cú were known far and wide. He easily kills them.
But then again….
He locks eyes with Melody who smiles.
So can a lot of them.
The group walks to the school building to rest and talk about their next plan. The building was wreaked with glass, burn marks, and scratch marks on the floors and walls. Scott noticed that Footprints running away too and his heart fell a bit. He doesn't think anyone made it out.
Judging from others' faces they all feel the same way. But their Servants look ahead and others follow suit. Mash on the other hand looks at footprints with sadness but she keeps a brave face. Scott walks ahead of the others until he is by Mash's side.
"There is nothing we could have done. This happened before we got here." He whispers to her. He didn't want others to overhear them as he didn't want to cause a scene.
Mash shook her head, "It's not that it is something similar I guess." She tried to explain. Scott blinks as he walks beside her. He must mistreated what she was thinking about. People can be so confusing.
"Um, under your command Senpai, I have gained enough experience… And yet… I'm still unable to unleash my Noble Phantasm. I don't even know how to unleash it… I'm like a defective Servant." She explained to him.
"Fou…" Fou said riding on Mash's shoulder. He nuzzled Mash's neck. Mash smiled and scratched his ears.
Scott never said this out loud but Fou kinda…unnerve him. He can't put his finger on it but the back of his hair stands up when he first met him. He smells old, bloodthist, strong…It was like sensing a bigger predator. But when he first Fou he was underwhelmed. The small cute fluff ball didn't match the feeling or smell of him. But still, he keeps an eye on him.
"Oh, so that's what was bothering you. You have such a strong sense of responsibility, Mash… But I don't think that can be settled overnight. After all, it's a Noble Phantasm. If a Heroic Spirit's secret weapon can be mastered within a day or two, then Servants won't be that special anymore." Romani's voice comes from Scott's watch. He grimaced because now everyone was looking over to them.
"Doctor," Scott pulls his watch to his lips so he can whisper, "I was talking to talk to her alone about this."
"Oh!" Romani's voice sounds surprised and embarrassed, "I'm sorry Mash-I didn't mean- I mean-" Romani was rumbling on.
Mash cut him off, "Doctor it's fine. I need to tell them about my Noble Phantasm." She told him. Scott pats her shoulder in comfort. Mash places her hand on top of his and smiles. Then she sighs and turns to the others.
It is unusual not to know how to use Noble Phantasm but I never knew Demi-Servant before." Medusa said.
"Well," Siegfried stepped forward, "I know one Servant that didn't know his Noble Phantasm." Everyone looks at him in surprise.
"Did he unlock his Noble Phantasm?" Mash asked him. Scott listens in too. Maybe they figure out a way to unlock Mash's Noble Phantasm if they lean Siegfried.
Siegfried sighed, "I don't know. I die before I know if he figures it out." He groaned along with some of the others.
"That was a waste of time," Umbra growled. Oliver glares at the demon on Haelth's shoulder.
"Hey, it was something outside of his control! Give him a break!" He defends his Servant. Siegfried pulls his Master. Haelth also covers Umbra's beck to stop them from making snarky comments.
"Master I can hold my battles," Siegfried told him. Oliver turns to him.
"Yeah, but I think Miss Haelth can hold it," Siegfried told him as they both watched Haelth wrestle with her demon.
"Would you stop it! I told you if you there a time and place for this."
Umbra pecks Haelth's forehead.
"I just expressed my option. I thought you humans like honestly." They growled. They went back and forth. The group largely ignores it but Medusa tries to break it up. "Of course, we can master something like that immediately. After all, Heroic Spirits and Noble Phantasms are the same thing. If the young lady here can fight as a Servant, that means at that very moment you can use your Noble Phantasm. And yet you can't, which simply means your magical energy is not circulating right. Let's see, maybe enthusiasm? No, perhaps too reserved? I'm sure it's because you just don't yell out when you practice." Cu explain. Mash blinked, coughing a bit to clear her throat.
"Really? REALLY!?" Mash shouted that last part which made him and others winch a bit. "Faaaaaaaaaaa?" Fou covers his ears.
"Hey, don't yell all of a sudden! You're going to burst my eardrums, seriously!" Olga scolded her.
Mash looks bashful, "Sorry, Director. But Caster said we should shout…"
"I don't think he means that literally Mash," Susie said sheepishly.
Cu rubbed his ear, "Yeah, that was a metaphor… Well, at any rate, I see you have enthusiasm." He look at Scott, "Scott, you heard the young lady. Do you mind if we take a quick detour?" He asked him. Scott wondered why he was asking him instead of Susie but then he remembered he was Mash's Master. It was still in the leader or boss of someone.
"Detour? What kind?" He asked him as Cu led Mash down the hallway. Scott follows him while others follow them. Noisely bunch are they?
"What? I'm just talking about special training. It won't take long." Cu said as they got to was seemed to courtyard. There were statues here and there smash. But Scott ignored them. No need to mourn the dead when they have a mission to do. The nets were ripped apart but the ground was still smooth.
"Now then," Cu pointed his staff at Mash, "I'm your next opponent. You don't have to hold back because we're allies." His red eyes flicked to Scott, "I'm not gonna hold back when I kill Scott." Scott bristled and growled. His team and their Servant gather around him.
Mash's eyes widen, "Wh-" She was about to question him when Cu sent a blast of fire at Mash. Luckily she put up her shield to defend the blast. But Cu keeps on pressuring her until she moves. But Mash made sure that she was as far away from the group as possible.
"What are you talking about? Are you crazy? What does Scott have to do with this?" Olga questioned Cu. Behind Siegfried but hey it's the thought that counts.
Cu snorted, "A Servant's problems are the Master's problems. Didn't I mention you share the same fate?" He locks eyes on Scott, "You've had the same thought, right Scott? When the young lady can't stand anymore, it's your death." Scott looks down because he knows deep down that Cut is right. Mash needs to stand up on her own. Not only for his sake but hers as well. If doesn't then she could be killed.
As if reading his thought Mash turns to him.
"… Master, please, stand back! I—won't be a hindrance for Senpai… I won't!" She declared as a step forward to face Cu.
"Should we do something?" Oliver asked Siegfried.
Siegfried shook his head, "Master I advise you to stay back." His green eyes look at the two Servants standing across from each other, "This something that they need to face." He said as Scott stood a little ways away.
Susie looks at this in anxiety while Haelth looks up at Medusa. Who shook her head. Olga bit her nail while Umbra grimaced. Melody and their servant almost relax as they watch the battle ahead.
Mash glared at Cu who raised his staff and smirked.
"Here we go, the real fight starts now!" He sends a blast of fire to Mash who raises a shield in defense. Mash pushes the flames away and then rushes forward. Lifting the shield smacks Cu but the Caster Servant jerks back. Throwing a rune at Mash who quickly holds her shield to cover the blast.
Good thing Rune explored. Her shield held firm but she felt it.
"Mash on your left!" Scott warns her. Mash without questioning swung her shield at her left. Cu groaned as he was smack down. He throws against the ground from Mash's blow.
"Thank you, Master!" Mash said her eyes brightening. Scott smiles too. They might have a chance if they work together.
Cu, rubs his chin, "Getting double team huh? Well, I better bring my A-game!" He grinned before his eyes grew serious and pointed his staff at Mash, "Ok, it's time to finish this. Burn to the ground with your Master!" A bright circle of light appears in front of them. Raising from the ground a large wood statue appears. Scott's eyes widened, it was large enough to be as tall as the school building. "Retribution, the forest that will purify human misery— Befall the Wicker Man! And behold, as both good and evil bite the dust—!" Cu chants, making the statue step forward. Fire sparks the wooden surface making the inside like an oven. What's worse it reaches out to Scott.
Mash noticed that the chest had a hatch in it. If he gets shoved in there.
No.
She has to do something. She can see the terror in Scott's eyes. If she doesn't do anything he'll die. She must protect him no-them. Her eyes flicked to the others. Their faces pale in fear but a few brave ones grimace facing the burning wooden statue.
She has to unlash it, or everyone will die.
'Even if it's fake,' She steps forward, light starting to gather around her, '.I have to unleash it properly, or everyone will disappear-!' Her body felt like it was on fire but she pushed through.
"Ahhhhhhhh!" She let out a battle cry. Raising her shield, the light projects more bigger shield. Magic circle whirling around in the center of the project. The flame blust forward but the shield held on. Covers not only her and Scott but the school beyond them as well. The heat passed by them. Mash sweat but she held on until the heat was down and what's left was Cu clapping his hands.
"Oh...I… Did I, manage to unleash my Noble...Phantasm…" Mash mumbled. Scott was at her side patting her back.
"You did so well Mash." He praises her. Mash smiles at him, a warm feeling blossoming in her chest.
"Thank you, Master!" Mash beams at him. The rest of the group gathers and congrats her.
"Good work Mash!" Oliver smiled at her.
"You did so well!" Susie praises her. "Fou, fooooouuuu!" Fou jumps on her shoulder and nuzzles Mash.
Scott's phone watch rings and he pushes a button. The Romani's face appears in a hologram.
"That was surprising. I didn't expect her to unleash her Noble Phantasm that soon. Mash was never someone with a strong will…" He said in surprise.
"That's because you got her all wrong. You may call the young lady there, a protector. There's no point in teaching a bird to swim, is there? You have to teach a bird how to fly high." Cu pointed out, "Although…" He look over to Mash, "She didn't get to obtain its True Name." Mash flitch and look down. Scott put his hand on her shoulder, causing her to look up at him.
"She still learning. You can't expect the pup to take down whole elk as my mother used to say." Scot comforts her. Mash a feel warm seeing him smile.
"Scott right," Olga stepped forward, "Even if you are only temporary… Your very wish unleashed your Noble Phantasm. You didn't have the slightest desire to obtain a True Name, to become one of the chosen— To become a true Heroic Spirit. That's why your Noble Phantasm responded. Ahhh, what an inspiring story. Just like a fairy tale." She sighs at the last part. Scott took a back, Olga didn't seem to like Mash through his days of staying at Chaldea. While she did hide it well Scott could tell she was afraid of her. Even without his nose, he notices that she goes out of her way to avoid her, and if she has to talk to her she has Lev at her side. Plus she gives Mash a lot of freedom. Which seems to him more like a fox sharing a space with a badger.
"Um, Director…" Mash snap Olga daydream.
Olga coughed realizing she was caught, "Don't mind me, I'm just teasing. I'm pleased that you're able to use your Noble Phantasm now." She quickly changed the subject, "But it's inconvenient to use it without a True Name, right? I'll think of a good spell for you. Since it's a pseudo-deployment of Noble Phantasm… Let me see…" Olga scratched her chin in thought before snapping her fingers, "Yes, let's call it "Lord Chaldeas." Chaldea is a name that has meaning for you too. So to activate your Spirit Origin, that's a good spell for you, right?" She suggests.
"Y-Yes… Thank you, Director!" Mash bowed a bit.
"Yeah, that's a great name!" Haelth praised which made Olga blush a bit but she turned away.
"It's not that big of a deal." She said, then locked eyes with Umbra. Who smirked at her, which made Olgas turn away. Haelth blinked confused at this, not noticing Umbra's expression on her shoulder.
Susie's watch beeped and she clicked the button. Romani's face appears, beaming at Mash.
"Lord Chaldeas… Yes, I like it. That fits you perfectly, Mash! And the desire to try it out after getting it is only human nature. Caster, would you be Mash's sparring partner?" He asked the Servent.
Cu nodded, "Yes, of course. I was holding back before, but even so, her defense was impeccable. As someone with more experience, I'll hammer the basics of Noble Phantasms into your head." He got to a fighting stance, "Scott, young lady, are you ready?" He asked them.
Scott and Mash locked eyes and nodded. They both got to battle stance and Mash raised her shield.
"Yes, please!" They both said.
