In the middle of a snowy forest, Naga could be seen, with Bolin, Asami and Iroh II on her, running in the direction of Hiroshi's hangar where they kept the biplanes.
When they reached their destination, they stopped on a very high ridge where they could see where they were headed.
"I think we've found our secret airfield. Bolin, once we get down there, I need you to tear up those runways. We can't let those aircraft take off." said General Iroh II.
"Aye aye, captain! Ooh, general, general." said Bolin with a military salute and bowing in apology for the slight confusion.
The three went off to accomplish their mission, but Bolin stopped his pace when he heard a groan from Naga and turned to look at her and Pabu, who was standing over her.
"All right, you guys wait here until we get back, okay?" asked Bolin before following the others, but then, Naga tried to take a step forward and Bolin stopped her by raising his hand.
"Uh-uh, stay." said Bolin, causing Naga to lie down before finally allowing him to be able to follow the others.
When they were near the base, they saw some strange poles surrounding the place.
"Why would there be fence posts but no fence?" asked Asami in confusion.
However, as soon as they passed between the poles, the three of them suffered an electric shock that made them scream in pain before falling unconscious.
Meanwhile, at the pro-bending arena, guarded by blimps and mecha tanks, many people were gathering for the equalist rally that was to be held there.
Korra, Masane and Mako, still in their costumes, stood in the referee's area, acting as Equalist soldiers.
The three nodded to each other, as the time was approaching to carry out their plan to reveal the masked man's truth to the world.
It was then that Amon appeared on stage by a rising platform in the middle of the stage.
The audience erupted in applause at the arrival of their leader.
"Thank you all for joining me on this historic occasion!" began Amon, as the lieutenant and several Equalist soldiers arrived on stage as well. "When I was a boy, a firebender struck down my entire family and left me scarred. That tragic event began my quest to equalize the world."
"That's a lie, Amon!" shouted Korra drawing the attention of everyone in the arena as she, Masane and Mako removed their masks.
"Wait, that's not your name. Maybe we should call you Noatak, don't you think?" asked Masane using the masked man's real name.
Behind the mask, Amon narrowed his gaze on them as he saw that they somehow knew his secret, though he guessed who it was that told him.
"You want them taken out?" asked the lieutenant, but Amon held up a hand in arrest.
"No." began Amon before taking a couple of steps forward. "Everyone calm down, we have nothing to fear from the Avatar or her friend, the witch. Let's hear what they have to say." said Amon acting as if he had a trick for this type of case.
"Amon has been lying to you. The spirits didn't give him the power to take people's bending away," said Korra.
"She's right. He's actually been using bloodbending for it because he's a waterbender!" revealed Masane pointing at Amon and causing people to gasp in shock.
"What is this nonsense?" asked the lieutenant not believing the Avatar and the girl's story.
"You're desperate. Making up stories about me is a pathetic last resort." said Amon.
"You're the pathetic one, Amon. Saying your family was killed by a firebender when that never happened." said Masane.
"That's right. His father was Yakone, and his brother ... is Councilman Tarrlok." said Korra to the crowd.
The crowd gasped once again at the other revelation and the lieutenant was beginning to question whether or not it was true what they were saying.
"Hmph, an amusing tale, but I will show you the truth." said Amon pulling down his hood and proceeding to remove his mask.
Korra. Masane and Mako looked at him with suspicion, for they knew that since he didn't have that supposed scar, if he took off his mask, he would prove that they were right and that was the weird thing, for if he was confident enough to take off his mask in front of everyone, it meant that he had some plan in mind.
Suddenly, when Amon took off his mask, he showed everyone his real face which had a huge burn scar, much to the shock of the audience.
"This is what a firebender did to me." said Amon pointing to his scarred face.
"What?" asked Korra surprised by this, as she didn't expect Amon to actually have a scar on his face.
"Impossible." said Masane in surprise.
As Amon put his mask back on, the crowd started yelling at them about him lying, that it wasn't true what they were saying, etc.
"I'm telling you! He's a waterbender." said Korra, but only received more complaints from the crowd.
"You have to believe us!" said Masane trying to convince them.
Mako raised his fists ready to fight as he backed up to stand next to his friends.
"It didn't work." said Korra feeling terrible that her plan didn't work.
"They don't believe us." said Masane.
"We said what we had to. Let's get out of here." said Mako.
Before they could take a step, Equalist soldiers appeared to cut them off with their bolas ready to throw as the three slowly advanced into position to fight.
"I wouldn't leave yet, Avatar and witch. You'll miss the main event." said Amon drawing the attention of the three who turned to look at the stage, where a platform began to rise.
It was then that the three stood wide-eyed with shock, for on that platform were several poles and on them were, bound and gagged, Tenzin and his three children.
"No… they got away. We saw them get away!" said Korra horrified that they managed to catch Tenzin and his family despite everything they did to save them.
"How could they possibly have been captured?" asked Masane in horror.
Back at the Equalist base in the mountains, Bolin, Asami and General Iroh II were bound and unconscious in a cell.
"Asami." began Hiroshi calling out to his daughter, who woke up and sat up to look at him. "Asami, I know I have hurt you… and I am sorry. But I believe that one day, you will come to your senses and we can be a family again." said Hiroshi hopefully to be with his daughter again.
"Are you insane?!" asked Asami as the other two woke up. "How can we be a family after everything you've done?! Mom would hate you for what you've become."
"How dare you? I am avenging her death!" exclaimed Hiroshi angrily.
Just then, an Equalist soldier appeared.
"The airplanes are ready for take-off, sir." said the Equalist soldier.
"Good, annihilate the fleet." said Hiroshi to the surprise of the general and the earthbender. "That's right, general. I intercepted your message to Commander Bumi. I know exactly where they're hiding." said Hiroshi with a smile before leaving.
General Iroh II lowered his head in defeat.
"How are we gonna get out of here?" asked Asami.
"I don't suppose you know how to metalbend?" asked General Iroh II to Bolin.
"That is a negative, Sir." said Bolin.
A few minutes later, the group began to think they had lost, but then, Naga burst through the door.
"Naga! Over here!" said Bolin quietly so as not to alert the enemy.
Naga stood in front of the cell and Pabu got off her head, stepping between the bars and standing next to the others.
Naga reared up on her hind legs and slammed them against the bars of the cell, bending them a little.
She did it a second time and managed to break the bars completely, creating a hole to get in and out.
"Who needs a metalbender? We got Naga! Yeah!" exclaimed Bolin as Pabu proceeded to untie them.
Outside the base, several biplanes were beginning to start their takeoff, just as the others ran out.
"I'm going after those airplanes." said General Iroh II picking up speed.
Naga hoisted Bolin onto her back as she continued to run.
"Ahh! No, Naga!" said Bolin surprised by the polar bear dog's act.
While running, Asami spotted an area full of mecha tanks and, with a smile, headed for that area and once there, climbed into the control cabin of a mecha tank.
Sitting in the cockpit seat, she turned a crank that activated the mecha tank.
"Huh, what do you know… just like a Future Industries forklift." said Asami putting on her belt before the cockpit closed.
Meanwhile, General Iroh II ran with all his might before using firebending to propel himself by expelling fire from his fists and feet, managing to be able to grab onto a biplane that took flight.
The pilot turned his head back in time to see the general running towards him, grabbing him and pulling him out of the plane.
Once in the pilot's seat, General Iroh II tried to steer the biplane, but had quite a bit of trouble with it.
Despite having difficulty handling, General Iroh II proceeded to follow the other biplanes.
Back in the pro-bending arena, Amon was addressing his audience with the imprisoned airbenders at his side.
"Tonight, I rid the world of airbending, forever." said Amon receiving support from the audience.
"Amon, let them go!" demanded Korra.
"If you dare touch a single hair on them, I swear I'll…!" began Masane, whose eyes turned yellow for a second.
"You're welcome to come down here and try to stop me." said Amon provoking the Avatar and the girl.
"He's trying to bait you." said Mako grabbing Korra's arm in an attempt to stop her.
"I don't care! We have to save them!" said Korra trying to get loose.
"The Avatar and the witch need to be reminded of the power I possess." said Amon starting to walk towards Tenzin.
Suddenly, Mako shot a lightning that struck in the middle of the path between Amon and the airbenders, causing an explosion along with a huge smokescreen.
Seizing that moment, Korra and Mako propelled themselves with firebending to go to the stage by walking along the wall, while Masane grabbed Korra to go with them.
An Equalist soldier tried to throw a bola at them, but they shot him down with a fireball before landing.
Other Equalist soldiers tried to attack them, but Masane ran at them and knocked them down with fists and kicks.
The crowd began to flee the stage and stadium.
While Mako kept the Equalists at bay with his fire attacks, Korra and Masane went to free the airbenders.
Once they caught up with them, Korra removed the airbender's gag.
"Where are Pema and the baby?" asked Korra as she created a fire blade to cut Tenzin's chains.
"In prison." said Tenzin.
"And Beifong?" asked Masane as he untied the children.
"I don't know." said Tenzin before Korra released him completely.
Quickly, Tenzin moved to Mako's side and launched a powerful blast of wind that knocked down the lieutenant and the last Equalist soldier, but Amon dodged the attack and an incoming fireball.
Tenzin spun in midair before sliding his leg along the ground, launching a wave of wind so strong that it sent Amon off the stage.
"Follow me, kids." said Masane, having released the young airbenders, before they all went one way.
The group ran down a hallway, but stopped when they reached an intersection of two roads.
"Get them out of here. We'll create a diversion." said Korra.
"Let's go get your mother and the baby." said Tenzin to his children.
"Prison break!" shouted Meelo before he and his family ran off to the side while Korra, Masane and Mako stood there, just as Amon appeared and charged towards them.
Korra launched a blast of fire that covered the hallway before the two ran in the opposite direction of the airbenders, though Korra paused for a moment to create a barrier of fire that would slow the masked one down.
The two continued running until they entered a door in the middle of the hallway.
Soon after, Amon passed the fire barrier through the flames and continued on his way.
He could have continued forward, but the sound of the door closing behind him stopped him and he ended up entering the place where they had been hiding.
Amon began to walk quietly through the room until he passed by where Korra was hiding.
Suddenly, Amon stopped, which made the Avatar very nervous, thinking he had found her, but that thought went away as Amon continued walking, causing her to let out a mute sigh of relief.
Suddenly, Korra was dragged out of her hiding place due to Amon using bloodbending on her.
He then began to lift her into the air as she screamed in pain.
That's when Mako came out of his hiding place and threw a fire wave at him which he dodged.
"Let her go!" shouted Mako throwing fireballs at the masked man, but he dodged them all before using bloodbending with his other hand on him as well, paralyzing him as he was lifted into the air and groaned in pain.
"Amon!" shouted Masane coming out of hiding and lunging towards the masked man to punch him.
However, just as her fist was mere inches from his face, Amon used bloodbending on her as well, paralyzing her before lifting her into the air as she groaned in pain.
After that, Amon threw them against the ground and paralyzed Mako and Masane with his bloodbending as they watched Amon use his power on the Avatar as well to force her to her knees.
The two watched in horror as Amon reached behind Korra and placed his left hand on the back of her neck.
"No!" shouted Korra knowing what he was going to do.
"Korra!" shouted Mako wanting to go save her, but Amon's power kept him unable to move.
"Stop!" shouted Masane trying to break free, but she couldn't.
Then, Amon put his right thumb on Korra's forehead and she stared in sheer horror before letting out a mute scream as she felt her power being taken away.
After that, Amon released the Avatar who fell to the ground.
"I told you I would destroy you." said Amon.
Masane's eyes widened in utter shock.
Unable to believe that her best friend, the person who had helped her so much since they met, had lost her powers forever to that man.
She was so in shock that she ended up unknowingly in her inner emptiness, kneeling and staring down.
"Why? Why did she have to end up like that?" asked Masane as she cried and shed tears.
"I'm sorry that happened to her. She didn't deserve it."
"Help me." whispered Masane.
"What?"
"Help me, please!" exclaimed Masane raising her head to show that she was frowning as she continued to shed tears. "I couldn't do anything in this form! That's why I need your help! Give me all your power!"
"I thought you said no you would never accept my power."
"I know, but…! I want to save her!" began Masane as she stood up and wiped away her tears before looking at the nothingness with seriousness and determination. "I may have killed people with that power, but I plan to use it anyway to protect those I care about!"
"So, do you accept me?"
"Yes, I accept you." said Masane without hesitation.
"You know there'll be no turning back, right?"
"I don't care, if it means saving my best friend and as many others as I can." said Masane without changing her mind.
"Very well."
It was then that footsteps were heard and Masane began to see a figure moving through the darkness.
"I hope you won't regret it later."
The figure kept walking until, at last, it revealed its true form.
The biplanes had reached Republic City and behind them, General Iroh II shot a lightning at one of them, causing it to collide with another, shooting down two in the process.
Reacting to this, the four remaining biplanes split into two equal groups.
One biplane shot backwards a bola that became entangled in the propeller of the general's plane, forcing the general to jump out of the plane, which exploded shortly thereafter.
In the midst of the fall, General Iroh II propelled himself with firebending into another biplane, eventually catching himself on the top.
He then shot a fireball at the biplane ahead, destroying one of its propellers and causing it to fall.
The biplane he was in swerved to the side to pull him out, but the general rolled to where the pilot was and took him out with a kick of fire.
Unfortunately, shortly after he sat in the pilot's seat, a bomb landed in the back of the biplane.
As the general was trying to stabilize the biplane, the last remaining biplane hovered over him and pulled the lever to drop another bomb.
But General Iroh II realized this and shot a fireball upwards, hitting the bombs seconds after he released one, causing a huge explosion that destroyed the biplane.
General Iroh II's biplane continued to fall directly towards the statue of Aang.
General Iroh II jumped out of the biplane and grabbed onto an Equalist sign he had hung.
The biplane crashed into Amon's mask, causing it to fall and reveal Avatar Aang's face.
"Thanks for looking out for me, Aang." said General Iroh II with a smile.
Back on the runway, Bolin used earthbending to destroy the runways and prevent more biplanes from taking flight as three mecha tanks approached.
The mecha tanks shot their grappling claws at him, who realized too late to try to do anything except wait for the hit, but then, Naga caught the ropes in mid-trajectory and with a tug brought the mecha tanks crashing to the ground just inches from the earthbender's face.
"Whoa! Thanks Naga." said Bolin as Naga fiddled with the ropes a bit before tossing them aside and running at him with her tongue out.
Asami was in the hangar destroying one of the remaining biplanes with the mecha tank.
"Asami!" the engineer turned around to see a mecha tank being driven by her father. "What do you think you're doing? You are aiding the very people who took your mother away!"
"You don't feel love for Mom anymore. You're too full of hatred." said Asami preparing the mecha tank to fight.
"You ungrateful, insolent child!" said Hiroshi furious with his daughter.
Hiroshi advanced his mecha tank straight towards Asami, who launched her grappling claws, but Hiroshi's mecha tank dodged them as it continued on its way.
Before Asami could react, Hiroshi struck her and sent her flying to the side, knocking her mecha tank down in the process.
Hiroshi aimed his mecha tank in front of his daughter's and hit the control booth window, shattering the glass in the process.
Asami put her arms out in front to protect herself from the broken glass.
"I now see there is no chance to save you!" shouted Hiroshi having lost his sanity and affection for his daughter.
He raised his fist to deliver the final blow, but an incoming rock struck him, drawing his attention.
Turning to the side, he saw Bolin on top of Naga, who was running towards him, while the earthbender was throwing rocks towards the mecha tank.
"Mr. Sato, you are a horrible father!" said Bolin as he continued to throw rocks at the mecha tank.
That was distraction enough for Asami to lift her mecha tank, pierce the mecha tank's right arm with her pincers and then hurl it towards the other side of the hangar, ripping its arm off in the process.
As Hiroshi groaned from the pain, Asami used her mecha tank's grapples to pry open the cockpit.
Hiroshi stared at her in fear as Asami glared at him with hatred, but as soon as she softened, Hiroshi turned from fear to anger before pulling a lever, thus launching his final grappling claw, but Asami dodged it.
However, that served as a distraction for Hiroshi to get out of the mecha tank and run away.
"You really are a horrible father." said Asami regretfully and sadly before shooting a disc of three whips that wrapped around her father before sending him into an electric shock that knocked him unconscious.
Asami shed a tear at how the situation had ended.
Her father may have done horrible things and even tried to hurt her, but despite everything, he was still her father.
Meanwhile, Amon was still using bloodbending on Mako and Masane to keep them paralyzed while Korra was on all fours, in total shock at having lost her powers.
"Finally, you are powerless." said Amon.
Korra used what little strength she had to try to throw a fireball at him, but nothing happened and she fell to the ground.
Suddenly, Amon's eyes focused as Masane started to get up.
He tried to knock her down with his bloodbending, but Masane was able to resist, much to his surprise.
Both her eyes and those of the others widened from utter surprise when they saw a red aura enveloping the girl and it was then that she underwent a transformation totally different from any she had ever had before.
Her hair became completely red and long. Her clothes had disappeared, being replaced by a kind of black armor that covered her from her feet to her knees, although her right leg had the rest of her right side covered; her crotch, both sides of her body, as well as her back, exposing the front; from her left hand halfway to her elbow; her shoulders, partially her breasts and her right arm completely. On her right arm was some kind of small blade and on the back of her hand was a red gem.
Lifting her head, she revealed her typical yellow eyes with black sclera and purple-tipped lines on her cheeks pointing to her eyes.
"You'll pay for this, you bastard!" shouted Masane.
Before the masked man could react, Masane extended the blade on her arm and lunged toward him.
She was about to cut him, but Amon was able to react in time and dodge the attack.
Masane tried to cut him several times, but Amon was able to use bloodbending to deflect her attacks just in time, although sometimes, due to Masane's resistance, he managed to perform some cuts on him.
It was then that Masane launched four spiky tentacles from her hair.
Amon tried to paralyze her with his bloodbending, but while it paralyzed her body, the same didn't happen with her hair tentacles that dug into him, making him scream in pain as he quickly backed away.
Soon after, Masane appeared in front of him with the blade raised for a vertical cut, forcing him to use his bloodbending to paralyze her again and it seemed to work, as Masane grunted from the pain and effort, but in the end, Masane managed to resist and direct her blade downward, making a deep cut in the shoulder, causing Amon to scream in pain as he held his shoulder wound.
He quickly used bloodbending to stop the bleeding before refocusing on the transformed girl who soon lunged towards him for a kick that sent him crashing into the wall.
That made Mako break free from his grip and launched some fireballs that hit some nearby objects that landed on Amon.
Masane breathed heavily for a few seconds before catching her breath.
"Looks like we have company."
Masane turned her gaze to the entrance to see the lieutenant, who had seen it all.
"You want a fight too?" asked Masane.
His response was that the lieutenant took off his mask, threw it on the floor and then crushed it.
"No. I'm not going to fight for a traitor. Do what you want with him." said the lieutenant before leaving.
After that, she walked over to Korra and grabbed her in bridal form before she and Mako ran out of the room.
As they ran through the halls, Korra opened her eyes to look at the transformed girl.
"Masane… my bending." said Korra.
"Everything will be all right! We just need to get out of here." said Masane before she and Mako suddenly froze, causing Korra to fall to the ground with a groan.
The cause of it was Amon, who was behind him and using bloodbending to throw them against the ceiling before dropping him.
He then sent them crashing into the walls before they fell to the ground.
Masane stood up and charged towards Amon with her blade extended, but Amon reacted quickly and used bloodbending, sending it crashing back into the walls and ceiling before slamming it hard into the floor.
"I'm impressed. No one has ever gotten the better of me like that." said Amon advancing towards her.
With his bloodbending, he pushed Mako aside and lifted Masane into the air.
"You really have impressive power, witch. I would like to test if I can take that power from you, but alas, you are too dangerous to leave alive." said Amon causing Masane to start screaming in pain as she felt how Amon was squeezing his power into her.
When Korra was able to open her eyes, she watched in horror as Amon was about to kill Masane.
She couldn't let him do it.
She wasn't going to let that monster kill her best friend.
"NO!" shouted Korra standing up and as she threw her fist, she suddenly shot a blast of air that pushed Amon backwards while Masane and Mako were pushed to the side of the hallway before looking at Korra in shock.
"Impossible!" said Amon in total shock as he thought that, having had her powers removed, she would no longer be able to bend any other element.
Korra's eyes widened in surprise as she looked down at her hands.
"You've done it." said Masane in surprise.
"I… I can airbend? " asked Korra before rising up and looking seriously at the masked man. "I can airbend!" declared Korra before moving forward and launching a blast of air that hit Amon in the ceiling.
She then launched another blast of air.
Amon tried to shield himself with his arms in the X position, but the force of the wind knocked him against the wall at the end of the hallway.
Suddenly, Amon used bloodbending on her before she could launch another air attack.
Amon intended to finish her off forever with his power, but Korra, despite this, was able to withstand and resist the bloodbending.
"No… you… don't!" shouted Korra before launching a gust of wind from her foot that hit Amon, sending him crashing through the window at the end of the hallway and falling into the water.
The people near the stadium saw Amon fall into the water and went to the edge of the platform to find out what was going on.
Korra, Masane and Mako approached the hole Korra created by throwing Amon in, receiving insults from the people as they realized she had finished off their leader.
Suddenly, Amon emerged from the water on a tornado of water as the scar on his face was fading, revealing it to be pure makeup.
Needless to say, the people who saw him were shocked to discover the truth of their leader.
"He's waterbending."
"He is a bender."
"The scar is fake."
"The Avatar was telling the truth."
So went the people who initially trusted Amon, only to feel betrayed.
Amon, Korra and Masane shared a scowling look before the unmasked one undid the tornado of water to flee.
Mako threw fireballs at him, but he ended up escaping through the water.
Once they lost sight of the leader of the Equalists, Korra quickly turned her attention to an important topic.
"Masane, are you okay? Are you still you?" asked Korra.
"Hehe. Sure. Can't you tell?" asked Masane with a smile as her transformation unraveled.
"But how? I thought that entity of yours took over when that happened." said Mako.
"It did, but I struck a deal with her where she relinquished all of her power to me. Although…" began Masane before looking at Korra with pity. "I wish I had done it sooner."
Korra lowered her head in sadness as she remembered that she had lost her bending on the other elements.
All Masane could do at that moment was give her a hug in an attempt to comfort her as Mako put his hand on her shoulder.
But, even if they managed to take down the Equalists, there was the issue that Korra had lost her bending in the other elements.
At the Air Temple, Tarrlok was still in his cell when he received an unexpected visitor.
"Noatak." said Tarrlok recognizing his older brother.
"It's over, brother. I'm sorry for what I had to do to you." said Amon (Noatak).
"Our father set us on this path; fate caused us to collide. I should have left with you when we were boys." said Tarrlok.
Amon (Noatak) opened the cell door.
"Leave with me now. We have a second chance. We can start over, together. Please, you're all I have left in the world." said Amon (Noatak).
News of Amon's truth soon spread to all corners of the city.
People who supported the Equalists stopped doing so in view of the fact that they were following a phony.
The lieutenant managed to convince the Equalist soldiers to surrender and give themselves up by confirming to them that it was all true, as he himself witnessed it in person and given his status in the group, no one doubted him.
Not only that, but the lieutenant decided to collaborate with the authorities by revealing where all those benders whose powers had been taken away by Amon were locked up, including Lin Beifong.
However, it wasn't all joy, as that battle had come at a terrible price.
Korra could no longer waterbend, earthbend or firebend.
Masane tried to cheer her up a couple of times by telling her that at least she could airbend and that there would surely be a solution.
The next morning, everyone was gathered at the port of Air Temple Island, including Lin, who was looking sadly at Korra.
"I can't believe Amon got you too." said Lin.
"If I had acted sooner, this wouldn't have happened." said Masane lowering her head in sadness.
"You did what you could, Masane. What happened wasn't your fault." said Korra not wanting her friend to feel bad.
"She's right. It's all the fault of that bastard Amon alone."
"Hey, at least you unlocked your airbending" said Bolin trying to lighten up the situation, but only received frowning looks from the others.
"Bro, not the time." said Mako.
"Right, right, I'll just stand over here." began Bolin before backing away a bit. "Quietly, in silence." whispered Bolin before covering his mouth with his hands.
Later, the group gathered to see a United Forces ship passing near the island.
"You saved Republic City." said Tenzin to the Avatar.
"But Amon got away and so has Tarrlok." said Korra.
"Regardless, they are brothers. Surely they must have escaped together. While I'm glad they're together, I hope I never see them again." said Masane sincerely.
"It's fine with me if they die on the run."
Tenzin put his hand on the Avatar's shoulder to cheer her up a bit, as she had suffered a terrible loss.
At that moment, the United Forces ship began to approach the island's harbor.
"Yay, Uncle Bumi's here!" said Ikki.
On the boat stood a man with a wild grin, possibly it was Commander Bumi, Tenzin's older brother.
"Waaaa-hoooo!" shouted Bumi before smiling again.
"*Sigh of defeat* Great, now I have to entertain my brother." said Tenzin in annoyance and defeat before going to greet his older brother.
Later, on a boat moving in the middle of the ocean, were Amon (Noatak) and his brother, Tarrlok.
"The two of us together again, there's nothing we can't do!" said Amon (Noatak) with a smile.
"Yes, Noatak." said Tarrlok without emotion.
"Noatak. Hmph, I had almost forgotten the sound of my own name." said Amon (Noatak) with a nostalgic smile.
Despite his brother's words, Tarrlok knew that nothing would ever go back to the way it was, as he still felt terrible for everything he did to Korra, Masane, her friends, non-benders and the entire city.
It was then that Tarrlok, who had made a profound decision, took one of the many electrified gloves on the boat, silently opened the compartment where the boat's fuel was and put the hand holding the glove over the hole.
"It will be just like the good old days." said Tarrlok with his eyes closed.
Amon (Noatak), although not looking back, knew what his brother was going to do and let out a tear.
The next instant, an explosion ripped the boat apart and destroyed the two brothers.
Days later, at the South Pole White Lotus complex, Mako, Bolin, Asami, Masane, Tenzin, his family, Lin and Korra's parents were waiting patiently in a room.
It was then, when Katara arrived, who wore a sad expression.
"I've tried everything in my power, but I cannot restore Korra's bending." said Katara lowering her head in sadness.
"But you're the best healer in the world, you have to keep trying!" said Lin trying to hold out hope.
"There has to be a solution." said Masane.
"I'm sorry, there's nothing else I can do. Korra can still airbend, but her connection to the other elements has been severed." said Katara.
At that, Lin lowered her head, having given up hope.
Everyone hung their heads in sadness at that.
Soon after, Korra came out of the room she was in earlier and looked around at everyone there.
"It's going to be all right Korra." said Tenzin trying to comfort her.
"No, it's not." said Korra before walking outside.
Mako stared in the direction she was going before running to catch up with her.
"Korra, wait." shouted Mako, causing Korra to stop as he caught up to her.
"Go away." said Korra turning her head to look at him before turning her gaze forward.
"I will, but I just want you to know, I'm here for you." said Mako.
"No." began Korra before turning to look at him. "I mean, go away, back to Republic City. Get on with your life." said Korra crossing her arms.
"What are you talking about?" asked Mako.
"I'm not the Avatar anymore. You don't need to do me any favors." said Korra walking away from him, but Mako stopped her by putting his hand on her shoulder.
"I don't care if you're the Avatar or not." began Mako before taking his hand off her shoulder. "Listen, when Amon had you at his mercy, I was losing my mind at the thought of never seeing you again, I realized… I love you, Korra." confessed Mako placing his hand on her cheek.
"I… I can't." said Korra pushing Mako's hand away from her and running to Naga.
"Korra!" said Mako as Korra jumped on the polar bear dog and they ran away from the complex.
At that moment, Tenzin came to Mako's side.
"We need to be patient with her. It will take time for her to accept what has happened." said Tenzin trying to comfort him.
Meanwhile, Masane stood behind them, watching everything.
After all they had been through together, it was hard to believe that things would end that way.
Ever since she had met her, she had known that she wanted to learn to airbend so that she could be a full Avatar who would fulfill her duty to protect the world.
Although she had succeeded in doing so by defeating Amon and the Equalists, she lost something very important to her.
Her connection to the other elements.
Surely she no longer felt like a true Avatar.
It was then that an expression of determination formed on her face.
Korra, her best friend, had been there for her in her most desperate times and she felt it was time to return the favor.
Soon after, Korra reached a cliff.
She left Naga behind and approached the edge, where she stood looking out at the ocean in front of her.
Tears ran down her face and a drop fell into the ocean.
All her life, she wished to be a complete Avatar, one who bend all four elements, but now she could only bend one while bending over the others was gone.
She felt that she could no longer fulfill her duty anymore, that she had failed everyone, that she had let down her past lives by allowing this to happen.
If only she had learned to airbend earlier, perhaps things would have ended differently.
Not taking it anymore, Korra burst into tears and as she sat down and buried her head between her legs.
"Do you mind if I sit next to you?"
Korra turned her head to look at Masane giving her a smile.
"Do whatever you want." said Korra burying her head between her legs again.
At her acceptance, Masane sat down next to her.
"I'm so sorry for what's happening to you." said Masane.
"Don't be sorry. It's all my fault. If I had learned to airbend earlier, I would have been a full Avatar and probably would have defeated Amon differently and things wouldn't have ended this way. Now I can no longer be the Avatar. I am a failure. You shouldn't even be with me." said Korra.
It was then that Masane chuckled a little.
"What's so funny?!" asked Korra angrily as she thought she was laughing at her misfortune.
"I'm sorry. It's just… that was pretty much the same thing I said that time." began Masane, much to the Avatar's surprise. "Remember when we first discovered my powers? At first, I was terrible. I felt there was no place for me in this world, that I couldn't be around anyone anymore, that I was a monster. I was plunged into darkness, but you, Korra, were the light that brought me out of it. You told me that no matter what happened, you would still be by my side. You told me that I wasn't a monster, but your best friend and this bracelet is proof of that." said Masane showing her bracelet.
"Now, Korra, you are the one who is plunged into darkness and you think you are a failure who doesn't deserve anything, but I am here to be the light to bring you out of it. No matter what happens, I will still be by your side at all times, because you're not a failure, you're my best friend." said Masane with a smile.
Korra was touched by the words of her best friend who didn't take a second to jump in and give her a hug which she returned.
"Thank you so much, Masane. Not only for making me feel better, but for standing by me." said Korra.
"You're welcome. That's what best friends do." said Masane.
It was then that they both felt a presence nearby.
"Not now Tenzin, can't you leave us alone for a moment?" asked Korra thinking it was the airbender.
"But you called me here."
Korra and Masane startled before looking back to see a certain someone.
"Aang." said Korra with a smile, happy to see the former Avatar.
"T-T-T-The Avatar Aang! I-I-I can't believe it. I… This… I…" said Masane very nervous to have such a celebrity in front of her, even if it was a spirit.
"Hehe. Easy, Masane." said Aang surprising her by seeing that he knew her.
"But how come you're here?" asked Korra.
"You have finally connected with your spiritual self." said Aang.
"How?" asked Korra getting up as Masane did.
"When we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change." said Aang as suddenly all the Avatars from the past appeared behind him.
Masane couldn't help but be open-mouthed with shock that there had been so many Avatars throughout history.
Aang placed his right hand on the shoulder of Korra, who closed her eyes, as he placed his left thumb on her forehead and suddenly his eyes and tattoos began to glow, as did the eyes of the previous Avatars and an aura of light surrounded Aang and Korra.
After that, Aang separated from Korra and he and the Avatars of the past disappeared.
Korra stood there keeping her eyes closed until, suddenly, she snapped them open, revealing them to be glowing, a symbol that she had entered the Avatar State.
Then Korra soared into the air on a tornado, causing Masane to cover her face.
Suddenly, Korra launched a wind wave, a fire wave and an earth wave before causing a huge wave to crash against the cliff.
Soon after, Korra landed on the ground and came out of the Avatar State.
"No way." began Masane before a huge grin formed in her mind. "You've regained your powers!"
"I have?" asked Korra before realization hit her and she smiled in pure joy. "I have!" exclaimed Korra with joy before she and the girl shared a hug.
"You don't know how happy I am for you." said Masane.
"I know, I'm so happy too." said Korra.
After that, Korra noticed a presence behind her and broke away from Masane before turning to see Mako looking at her in surprise before giving her a smile.
Korra smiled back before running up to him and sharing a mutual hug.
"I love you too." said Korra before she and Mako shared a tender kiss on the lips.
Masane smiled at the tender moment between them.
"I give them a year at the most."
"Oh, don't say that. They're happy together." thought Masane.
"I'm just saying."
Later, Lin bowed in front of Korra, who placed her hands on her shoulder and forehead before entering the Avatar State.
When she finished, Lin stood up and lifted several rocks from the area, signaling that she had regained her powers of bending.
There was a mixture of amazement and happiness among the others and soon after, Lin lowered the rocks before looking up at the Avatar with a smile of thanks.
"Thank you." said Lin to the Avatar, who bowed in thanks.
Then, Tenzin approached Korra.
"I am so proud of you, Avatar Korra." said Tenzin with a proud smile.
Korra was happy, not only because she had great friends (or boyfriend), but also because she was finally a full Avatar.
It was then, when she remembered something and turned her gaze to her best friend.
"Masane, now that you've strengthened your connection with that entity, what are you going to do now?" asked Korra.
"Well, I may have blood on my hands, but I promise I will use this power, not to harm people, but to protect them from those who would want to harm them." began Masane with a fist clenched at the level of her face and an expression of determination. "Besides, I still haven't recovered my memories and she promised me that she would reveal them to me in due time."
"You can sit tight now."
"Well, whatever happens, we'll get through it the way we have so far. Together." said Korra extending her hand to her.
"Together." said Masane taking her hand and shaking it as the red socket of the bracelet glowed in the sunlight.
There were still dangers to stop in that world, mysteries to solve, but if there was one thing the two of them and the others knew, it was that no matter what the world threw at them, they would stand together and get through it.
For all of them formed a very special team whose name would remain in the memory of many.
Team Avatar.
AN: End of story! For the moment.
Again, what did you think of the story? Did you like what I did with Masane and her 'mysterious' powers?
If she came out a bit OCC, sorry, I did my best.
You'll probably have questions about what I have planned and, don't worry, because I have more planned for the next seasons.
What will happen in each one? We'll find out sometime in the future.
Another thing, this is my last 'Legend of Korra' story that spans the entire series.
I'm not going to write another unless I find something that makes a good mix, so…
I'll see you in the next part!
