The jocks drove Clark out to the middle of a cornfield. They got out and grabbed Clark. They dragged him over to a post. "Please…don't…do…this" Clark said weakly. They ignored him and threw him onto the floor.
"Get Kent ready as the scarecrow. I'm going to get the rope" Whitney said running to the truck. The jocks took off Clark's shoes and socks, then his sweater and shirt. They unbuckled his belt and took off his jeans. They threw his clothes to the side. Whitney came back with ropes and spray paint. "Get him up there" Whitney said. Two jocks lifted Clark up onto the post. He tried to fight back but he was too weak. They tied his arms to the post and also tied his ankles to the post. Whitney shook the spray paint and sprayed an S on Clark's chest. Whitney leaned in close to Clark. "Stay away from Lana" Whitney whispered. Him and the other jocks got back in the car and drove off.
Clark stayed on that post for the rest of the day into the night. He was struggling to stay conscious as Lana's necklace was making him weak. He could feel himself getting weaker and weaker by the minute. His head was hanging down as he struggled to catch his breath. Jeremy Creek was watching him struggle on the post. "Never changes" he said.
Clark weakly lifted his head up to look at Jeremy. "Help me" he said.
Jeremy walked over to him. "Hurts, doesn't it" Jeremy asked.
Clark continued to look at Jeremy weakly trying to stay alert. "You're Jeremy" Clark said.
"I thought if I punished them, it'd stop but it never stops" Jeremy said.
Clark looked away. He was in pain and just wanted it to stop. Jeremy started to walk away. "Wait" Clark called out. Jeremy turned back around to look at him. "Where are you going" Clark asked.
"Homecoming dance. I never made it to mine" Jeremy answered.
"Get me down. Please" Clark begged.
"You're safer here" Jeremy said. He walked away leaving Clark struggling on the post. Lex was driving away from the Luthorcorp power plant when he saw a boy coming out of the cornfield. He stopped his car immediately. Lex stuck his head out of his window and looked at the boy. Jeremy looked back at him. Lex recognized him from 12 years ago the day of the meteor shower. He didn't look any different. That couldn't be possible. Lex got out of his car and looked toward where the boy was but he was gone. Lex looked around but saw nothing. He turned to get back in his car.
"Help me" he heard a voice calling out in the distance. He turned back around toward the cornfield. He grabbed a flashlight out of his car and walked into the cornfield.
Lex walked deeper into the cornfield and saw Clark Kent strung up to a post like a scarecrow. He shined the flashlight onto Clark to be sure. "Clark" he said in disbelief. Clark weakly looked up at him. "Oh jeez" Lex said walking over to Clark. He started to untie his ankles. "Who did this to you" he asked as he finished untying Clark's ankles. He moved on to his arms.
"It doesn't matter" Clark answered. Lex finished untying Clark and he fell off the post onto the floor. The necklace fell off him. Clark felt instantly better. He could feel his strength coming back. He saw where Whitney and the others threw his clothes and he ran overt to them. He picked up his clothes.
"Clark, you need to see a doctor" Lex said.
Clark looked back at Lex. "I'll be OK" he said. He ran off.
"At least let me give you a ride" Lex called out but Clark was already gone. Lex looked down and saw Lana's necklace laying on the ground. He leaned down and picked it up and looked at it. He looked over to where Clark ran away. What the hell happened?
Jeremy made his way to the school where the homecoming dance was taking place. Inside Chloe and Pete were dancing together. Lana and Whitney were dancing together. Lois walked up to Chloe and Pete. "Is this how this town throws a party? This is kind of lame. Though I guess it makes sense for a small town" she said.
Chloe and Pete looked up at Lois. Lois was in a long red dress with her hair down. Chloe pulled Lois into the corner. "What are you doing here? I thought after the accident you had you were just going to stay home and rest" Chloe said.
Lois rolled her eyes and shook her head. "I told you I'm fine. Besides I wanted to see how this town throws a party" she said. Lois looked around. "So where is Smallville. I'm sure he'd look like a fool on the dance floor and I want to laugh at him" Lois said.
"Clark's not here" Chloe said.
Outside Jeremy walked over to a metal circuit box with a crowbar and jimmied it open. "Jeremy, you need to stop this" Jeremy heard someone say. He looked to see who just spoke to him. Across the parking lot, Clark stood there fully clothed looking at Jeremy.
Jeremy started walking toward Clark. "I don't know how you got here" he said throwing the crowbar on the floor. Clark started walking toward him too. "You should have stayed away" Jeremy said.
"I won't let you hurt my friends" Clark said.
"Those people aren't your friends. The sprinklers will get them nice and wet" Jermey said.
"They never did anything to you" Clark said.
"This isn't for me. This is for others like us" Jeremy said.
Clark walked up to him. "What happened to you was my fault. I can understand your pain" he said.
"I'm not in pain. I have a gift…a purpose and a destiny" Jeremy said turning to leave.
Clark supersped in front of him. "So do I" Clark said. Jeremy grabbed Clark. The electricity surged through him and he grabbed Jeremy and threw him into a car. Jeremy landed on the car then bounced off onto the floor next to the car. Clark started to walk toward him. Jeremy got up. "Give it up, Jeremy" Clark said. Jeremy touched the hood of the car revving the engine to life. Clark stopped walking and watched as Jeremy got into the car. He drove the car into Clark who grabbed the car trying to stop it. Clark struggled to stop it not having his powers fully restored and Clark started getting pushed around still holding onto the car. Jeremy eventually drove into a water main and the car crashed through a wall. Water started flowing and Clark got up completely unscathed. Jeremy shook his head getting his bearings back and looked at Clark shocked.
Clark looked down and saw the water flowing at his feet. Jeremy tried to get out of the car but the door hits the wall. The water started flowing into the car. Sparks of electricity surrounded it. Jeremy looked at Clark worriedly. Clark looked back at him shocked when a bolt of electricity knocked Clark back. Clark shielded his eyes as the electricity surrounds the whole car. It shocked Jeremy too and then all of a sudden it stopped. Jeremy slumped forward in the car. Clark got up and pulled the car into the building. He ran over and pulled the door off the car. Sparks flew off the car. Water spilled out of the car. Electricity filled Jeremy's body. Clark looked at Jeremy who wasn't moving. He grabbed Jeremy. "Are you Ok" Clark asked.
Jeremy looked up at him confused. "Who are you" Jeremy asked. Clark looked at him shocked. He must have forgotten about everything. Jeremy looked around. "Where am I" he asked.
Clark smiled at him. "I'm Clark Kent, and you're in Smallville" Clark said.
"I want to go home" Jeremy said. Clark nodded. Well at least he was able to stop Jeremy from hurting his friends.
Clark walked into the dance and watched from the other side of the room as Lana and Whitney danced together. He watched as they kissed. He could feel the jealousy rising up inside him. He turned and saw Lois dancing with one of the football players. That made him feel even worse. He watched Lois and the football player dance together his anger rising even more. Why did he care so much? It was just Lois. He had known her forever and couldn't stand her. He thought about what Lana had said the previous night about him and Lois. That would never work. She was Lois Lane. She was bossy, rude, stuck up but she did look really pretty tonight in that red dress and with her hair down like that. Clark started to walk over to Lois. He made it about halfway before he realized what he was doing. He stopped himself and shook his head. That was just Lois. He couldn't like her…could he? He turned around and left the building.
Clark was walking through the parking lot when he spotted Whitney's truck. He stopped and turned toward it. He smiled to himself and got an idea. A bunch of people from the dance walked out of the building including Lana and Whitney. Everyone was looking at something and laughing. Whitney and Lana stopped and stared in disbelief. Whitney ran forward the anger rising inside him. Three pickup trucks were stacked one of top of the other. "Who did this to my truck" Whitney asked angrily. Behind them Clark stopped walking and smiled at his handiwork. He walked away. Lana walked forward and stared in the direction Clark just walked away from. She couldn't have seen that right. That couldn't have been Clark. He wasn't at the dance tonight and if he was why didn't stop and say something to her.
Oliver was sitting on the porch of his house looking at the letter his father wrote him. He had finally heard from Clark about an hour ago and he said he was fine. He just stopped by the dance for a couple minutes. He said he would explain everything later. Just then a car pulled up the driveway. Felicity got out and Oliver got off the porch and walked up to her. "I thought you might want this" she said handing him a file.
"What is it" Oliver asked opening the file up and going through it.
"Information on Matt Hansen. That was everything I could find" she said.
"That was fast" Oliver said.
Felicity nodded. "Well I'm that good" she said.
Oliver smiled at her and nodded. "Yea you are. I'm sure Lex is probably waiting for you to get home so you should probably get going. Good night" Oliver said starting to walk to the house.
"Oliver, wait" Felicity called out. Oliver turned around. "I also wanted you to see this" Felicity said handing him another file he just noticed she was holding. He opened it and saw all of the research she had done into the accident. "I wanted you to see what I found out. It wasn't just an accident that we survived that night. Someone saved us…and I think you might know who" she said.
Oliver looked up at her. "What would make you say that" he asked.
"You don't seem interested in finding out what happened and you asked me to drop it like you don't want me to find out something" Felicity said.
Oliver shook his head. "Not everything has a reasonable explanation and I don't feel like wasting my time trying to find out how we survived the accident. What's most important is that we're alive. It's a miracle" he said.
"I don't believe in miracles. There's got to be some sort of explanation for how we survived" Felicity said.
Oliver sighed. "Please Felicity. Don't look into this" Oliver said.
"Why not" Felicity asked. Oliver didn't say anything. "Oliver I'm going to ask you this and I want an honest answer. Do you know how we survived that night" Felicity asked.
Oliver looked away from her. He couldn't lie to her and she knew it. He looked at her. "Can't you just accept that it was a miracle we survived" he asked. Felicity was about to answer when someone spoke up.
"Felicity Smoak. It's so good to see you" Martha said walking up and hugging her.
Felicity smiled at her. "It's good to see you too Mrs. Kent" she said.
"Do you want to come in? It's been so long since we've seen you" Martha asked.
"Felicity can't. She was just leaving" Oliver blurted out.
Martha looked over at her son. "Oliver Kent, don't be so rude" she said.
Felicity shook her head. "It's OK. Oliver's right. I have to get going. I just wanted to drop something off for Oliver" she said looking at Oliver. Oliver walked into the house and slammed the door behind him. Martha looked back at the house then to Felicity. Felicity gave her a sad smile. "Bye Mrs. Kent" she said.
"Bye honey. I hope to see you around more" Martha said.
Felicity nodded. "I'd like that" she said. She got in her car and left.
Oliver was sitting in his room going through the files of Matt Hansen when there was a knock on the door. Oliver looked up and saw his mother standing there. He took a deep breath. "Look mom, I don't want to be rude but I'm really not in the mood right now" he said.
Martha nodded and walked in. "You don't want to be rude like you were to Felicity" Martha asked.
Oliver rolled his eyes. "I'll apologize to her tomorrow" Oliver said.
Martha took a seat on the edge of his bed. She looked at the files. "What are those" she asked. He handed them to his mother. "I asked Felicity to see what she could find out about Matt Hansen. That's why she was here" Oliver said.
Martha looked up at him. "Oliver me and your father told you everything we know" she said.
"I know. I just need to know where he is. If he's still alive. He knew my parents. Maybe he has some more answers" he said.
"So you want to tell me what that was about down there" Martha asked.
"Not really" Oliver said under his breath but Martha heard.
"Oliver Kent, I don't know what's gotten into you but you are not this rude" she said.
"Fine I'll tell you but you have to promise me you won't freak out" Oliver said.
Martha nodded. "I promise" she said.
Oliver took a deep breath. "When me and Felicity were 16 I kind of, might have…lied to you and dad about something" Oliver said.
Martha looked at him shocked. "You lied to us about what" she asked.
"You remember around March of that year that party that Carl Mitchell was throwing that I wanted to go to and you and dad didn't want me going because his parents were bad news selling drugs and alcohol to minors" Oliver asked. Martha thought for a moment. She nodded her head. "Well after you and dad said I couldn't go I told you guys me and Felicity were going to hang out at her place but that was a lie and we actually went to the party" Oliver said.
Martha stood up and looked at her son sternly. "Oliver Kent, how could you lie to me and your father" she asked.
Oliver gave her a nervous smile. "Trust me that's not even the worse of it" he said. Martha looked at him expectantly. Oliver gulped. "Anyway me and Felicity went to the party and we might have…it's possible we could have had a little to drink that night" he said.
"What's a little" Martha asked.
Oliver nervously scratched the back of his neck and let out a nervous laugh. "Well you know, 1,2 maybe 3 bottles of alcohol. That's all" Oliver said. He could tell his mother was getting more and more mad. "Remember you promised not to freak out" he said. Martha didn't say anything. She just kept looking at him sternly which was worse then her freaking out. "So we decided we were getting tired and we left the party. We decided to take the backroads home and I was driving…" Oliver started but Martha interrupted him.
"Wait a second, you drove while you were drunk" she asked.
Oliver nodded. "It gets worse. We were really drunk and I didn't see the car coming so I swerved the car and it hit a tree" he said.
"WHAT" Martha asked a little too loudly.
Oliver smiled at his mother. "We're reaching the worst part which you are going to laugh about when you hear" he said. Martha just angrily stared at him. Oliver took a deep breath. "The car was totaled and the only reason we survived is because, now this isn't as bad as it's going to sound, but we survived because Clark saved us" Oliver said.
Martha thought for a second. "If you were 16, that would have meant Clark was 7" she said.
Oliver nodded. "I guess he heard that we were in trouble and came to save us" he said.
"Why didn't he ever tell us" Martha asked.
Oliver laughed nervously again. "I might have told him not to" he answered.
"So let me get this straight, when you were 16 you lied to me and your father, went to a party we told you not to, drank while being underage, drove while you were drunk, crashed a car into a tree and had your brother lie to me and your father about what happened" Martha said looking expectantly at Oliver.
"You see when you put it all together like that it sounds really bad" Oliver said.
Martha stood there silent for a moment. "Did Felicity see anything" she finally asked.
Oliver shook his head. "No but she knows I know something about what happened that night. I asked her to drop it but she won't. That's what we were talking about when you came outside" he said.
Martha took a deep breath and sat down on the edge of the bed. "This is bad" she said calmly.
"Look I know I messed up but I'm going to make sure Felicity never finds out about Clark" Oliver said.
Martha looked at her son. She put a hand on his shoulder. "I'm glad you're both OK but this could be bad. If Felicity finds out about…" Martha started but Oliver interrupted her.
"She won't. I'll make sure of it. You don't have to worry about Clark. No one's going to find out about him" he said.
Martha nodded. "We all just have to be more careful for both your sakes. No one can find out about you either" she said.
Oliver nodded. "They won't" he said.
Martha hugged Oliver. "I love you very much even though you lied to me and your father but seeing as how we lied to you and Clark for most of your guy's lives I'd say we're even now" she said. She pulled back. "Just promise me one thing. No more secrets. Secrets are dangerous in this family and we need to stick together" she said.
Oliver smiled at her. "I promise" he said.
She kissed his forehead. "Goodnight, sweetie" she said.
"Love you mom" Oliver said. Martha went to leave the room. "Mom" Oliver called out. Martha turned around. "I'm glad you and dad are the ones who raised me. I couldn't think of better parents I could have had" he said.
"Well I can't think of two better sons for me and your father to have raised" she said. They both smiled at each other. Martha left the room. Oliver sighed. He had to find someway to keep Felicity off Clark's trail. She could never know what actually happened that night.
In the loft above the barn, Clark was looking out his telescope. "Your grandfather gave me that telescope when I was about your age. I tried to give it to Oliver but he's never been very interested in looking up at the stars" Clark heard his father say. "I came downstairs for breakfast one day and there it was" Jonathan continued. Clark sat down not looking at his father. "Are you OK" Jonathan asked.
Clark finally looked up at his father. He didn't say anything. Jonathan and Clark just looked at each other. "Can I answer that in about five years" Clark asked.
Jonathan let out a little laugh and nodded. "Yea" Jonathan said starting to walk down the stairs. Clark watched his father go. Jonathan continued walking down the stairs making it to the landing.
"Dad" Clark called out. Jonathan looked up and saw Clark standing by the railing. Clark smiled at him. "I'm glad you and Mom found me" he said.
Jonathan smiled and shook his head. "We didn't find you, Clark. You found us" Jonathan said repeating what Martha said to him all those years ago. They smiled at each other. Jonathan finished walking down the stairs. Clark walked over to the table and turned on some music. He looked out the telescope again.
"I didn't see you tonight, Clark" Clark heard someone say. He jumped back a little and turned toward the voice. Lana was standing in front of him looking as beautiful as ever.
"Lana" Clark said. Clark walked over to her. "What are you doing here" he asked.
Lana walked over to him. "I saved you that dance" she said. She put her hand on his shoulder. Clark hesitantly looked at it. He wasn't sure this was a good idea. Lana wrapped her arms around him. Clark didn't know if he should do this. It's just a dance he though to himself. They started to dance. Clark smiled. This was all he ever wanted for as long as he could remember. He pulled back and looked at Lana.
"Everything OK Clark" Lana asked.
Clark smiled at her. "It's perfect" he said. He looked away for a moment.
"It really is perfect, isn't it Smallville" Clark heard someone say. He looked back to where Lana was standing before and was surprised to see Lois standing there. He looked at her shocked.
"Lois" Clark said surprised.
Lois smiled at him and reached out and stroked his face. "We both know this is what you want deep down inside" Lois said.
Clark shook his head. "No I…uh I…" he said stuttering. Just then a horn beeped outside. Lois disappeared. Clark looked around. It was all in his head. Why did he see Lois? She was annoying, bossy, rude…pretty, fiercely loyal and a friend that meant a lot to him even though he would never admit it out loud. Him and Lois would never work. Clark walked over to the open window and looked out it. A car was beeping it's horn driving away from the house next door. Lana was waving at the cars as they drove away. Lana started to walk up the steps to her house. "Thanks for the dance, Lana" Clark said to himself. She turned around and looked around . It was almost as if she heard him. She smiled and continued to walk up to her house. Clark just continued to look out the window and watched as she walked into her house. She was the girl of his dreams but for some reason he couldn't get Lois out of his head. The thought of him and Lois together didn't disturb him or anything. It actually made him kind of happy. Without realizing, he smiled. The thought of him and Lois together actually made sense to him but also made no sense at all. Did he really like Lois like that? Somewhere deep down inside.
