Chapter 1: Kurt's Bruise

Noah Puckerman, once a small-town guy, found himself stationed in the heart of New York, a world away from his roots. The city was a whirlwind of activity, but Noah managed to find his footing.

Every so often, he'd spot a familiar face in the crowd. It was Kurt Anderson, the stepbrother of his best friend, Finn Hudson. Finn had passed away eleven years ago, a loss that still weighed heavily on Noah's heart. Seeing Kurt was like seeing a piece of Finn, a bittersweet reminder of the friend he had lost.

Six years ago, Noah had a brush with death himself. He came perilously close to meeting the same fate as Finn. But he held on, not for himself, but for Quinn. He couldn't bear the thought of Quinn going through the same heartbreak that Rachel had experienced when they lost Finn.

So, Noah lived. He navigated the bustling streets of New York, carrying the memories of Finn and the guilt of his survival. Every time he sees Kurt, A reminder of his journey, loss, and promise to himself - to live, to remember, and to never forget.

One warm Saturday afternoon, Noah stood at the corner of 5th and 23rd, leaning against a lamppost, his eyes scanning the crowds. He had a good view of the park across the street, where families and friends were gathered, enjoying the rare sunshine.

It was then he saw Kurt, Blaine, and their daughter Tracy. They were sitting on a bench near the playground. Tracy, a lively six-year-old, was running back and forth, showing her parents the treasures she had found. Noah smiled at her exuberance, but his smile faded when he saw Blaine's expression.

Blaine looked angry, his face red and his jaw clenched. Noah could feel the tension from across the street. He watched as Blaine said something to Kurt, who looked down at his hands, his shoulders slumping. Tracy came running up to them, holding out a handful of dandelions. Blaine snatched them from her hand and threw them to the ground, shouting something Noah couldn't hear over the din of the city.

Kurt flinched, and Noah felt a knot form in his stomach. Blaine's rage didn't stop there. He grabbed Kurt by the arm and pulled him to his feet, shaking him violently. Tracy started to cry, her little hands covering her ears.

Noah's first instinct was to rush over and intervene, to stop Blaine from hurting Kurt further. But he hesitated. Kurt was already fragile, still dealing with the grief of losing Finn and the pressures of raising a family. What if Noah's interference made things worse? What if Kurt felt embarrassed or ashamed?

Noah's heart ached as he watched Kurt gently extricate himself from Blaine's grip and kneel to comfort Tracy. He whispered something to her, and she slowly stopped crying, her little face pressed against his shoulder.

Blaine stormed off, leaving Kurt and Tracy alone on the bench. Kurt held his daughter close, his tears falling silently as he tried to soothe her.

Noah clenched his fists, torn between his desire to protect Kurt and his fear of worsening things. He couldn't stand by and do nothing, but he couldn't just charge in without thinking. He needed to find a way to help Kurt, to let him know he wasn't alone, without causing more pain.

As he turned to leave, he made a silent vow to himself. He would find a way to reach out to Kurt and offer his support in a way that wouldn't add to his burden. Noah walked away, his mind racing with plans and possibilities, determined to be there for his friend in whatever way he could.

The next day, Noah Puckerman woke up early, still troubled by what he had witnessed the day before. He knew he couldn't stay silent but he needed to approach the situation delicately. He grabbed his phone and composed a text message to Kurt, hoping to start a conversation.

Puck: Hey Kurt, got a second?

Kurt: Sure, what's up?

Puck: I've been thinking.

Kurt: Oh? About what?

Puck: About us, our past, everything.

Kurt: Okay...?

Puck: I just wanted to say... I'm sorry.

Kurt: Sorry? For what?

Puck: For not being a friend when you needed one.

Kurt: Puck, it's okay...

Puck: No, it's not. I was wrong.

Kurt: We were all young and stupid.

Puck: That's no excuse for how I acted.

Kurt: Well, it's in the past now.

Puck: Still, I should have been there for you.

Kurt: I appreciate you saying that, Puck.

Puck: I hope you can forgive me.

Kurt: It might take some time...

Puck: I understand. I'll wait.

Kurt: Thanks, Puck.

Puck: And Kurt?

Kurt: Yes?

Puck: If you ever need a friend, I'm here.

Kurt: I'll keep that in mind.

Puck: Good. And again, I'm sorry.

Kurt: I know, Puck. I know.

Puck: Talk to you later.

Kurt: Yeah, talk to you later.

Puck: Bye, Kurt.

Kurt: Bye, Puck.

Noah put down his phone, feeling a mixture of relief and uncertainty. He knew this was just the beginning. He had taken the first step, but there was still a long way to go. He hoped that in time, he and Kurt could rebuild their friendship and that Kurt would find the strength to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

As he went about his day, Noah couldn't shake the image of Kurt and Tracy on that bench. He vowed to keep an eye on them to ensure they were safe. And he promised himself that if he ever saw Blaine acting out again, he wouldn't hesitate to step in. Kurt deserved better, and Noah was determined to be the friend he should have been all along.

A few days passed since Noah's conversation with Kurt. He had been wrestling with his thoughts to find the right words and moment. Finally, he decided it was time.

Puck: Hey Kurt, can we talk?

Kurt: Of course, Noah. What's on your mind?

Puck: About the other day... at the park.

There was a pause. Noah could almost feel Kurt's tension through the phone.

Kurt: What about it?

Puck: I saw what happened, Kurt with Blaine.

Another pause. Longer this time.

Kurt: I... I see.

Puck: Kurt, you don't have to go through this alone.

Kurt: It is not all that simple, Noah.

Puck: It never is. But that doesn't mean you have to handle it by yourself.

Noah could hear Kurt sigh, a heavy, weary sound.

Kurt: You don't understand, Noah. It all started during COVID-19...

Noah felt a pang of sympathy. The pandemic had been hard on everyone, but he could only imagine what Kurt must have gone through.

Puck: I'm here, Kurt. Whatever you're comfortable sharing, I'm here to listen.

Kurt: Thanks, Noah. That... that means a lot.

And so, they talked. Kurt opened up about his struggles during the pandemic, about the pressures and the fear, and how it all spiraled out of control. Noah listened, offering comfort and support, promising to be there for Kurt and Tracy.

This was a difficult conversation, but it was also a step towards healing, a step towards understanding, and hopefully, a step towards change. Noah knew the road ahead would be tough, but knew they wouldn't have to walk it alone. They had each other, and that was a start toward a better, safer future. And Noah was determined to do whatever he could to help make that future a reality.
