A Father's Intuition
Chapter 1: Junior
Puck sat on his couch, nervously tapping his fingers on his phone. He had been thinking about this for days, and he finally mustered the courage to call Kurt. He took a deep breath and dialed the number.
"Hey, Puck! What's up?" Kurt's cheerful voice greeted him.
"Hey, Kurt. I, uh, need to ask you something," Puck said, trying to keep his voice steady.
"Sure, what's on your mind?" Kurt replied, sensing the seriousness in Puck's tone.
"Did your dad ever suspect you were gay before high school?" Puck blurted out, his words tumbling over each other.
There was a brief pause on the other end of the line. "Well, yeah. He had his suspicions. I mean, I wasn't exactly hiding it, even if I didn't realize it myself at the time," Kurt said with a small laugh. "Why do you ask?"
Puck hesitated for a moment before continuing. "Did you, like, dress differently when you were a toddler? You know, like how you dress now?"
Kurt chuckled softly. "Not really. I mean, I had my own style, but it wasn't as defined as it is now. Why are you asking all these questions, Puck?"
Puck took a deep breath and finally let it out. "I think Junior is like you," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Kurt's heart skipped a beat. "You mean Noah Jr.?"
"Yeah," Puck confirmed. "He's been showing signs, you know? The way he talks, the things he's interested in... I just want to make sure I'm doing right by him."
Kurt smiled, feeling a warmth in his chest. "Puck, you're already doing the right thing by being supportive and open-minded. Just let him be himself, and he'll come to you when he's ready."
Puck sighed in relief. "Thanks, Kurt. I just needed to hear that."
"Anytime, Puck. And remember, you're not alone in this. You've got friends who care about you and Junior," Kurt reassured him.
"Yeah, thanks, man. I appreciate it," Puck said, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders.
As they ended the call, Puck felt a newfound sense of determination. He would be there for his son, no matter what, just like Kurt's dad had been there for him.
Kurt, Blaine, and their four-year-old daughter Tracy were excited as they drove through the streets of Washington DC. They were on their way to visit Puck and Quinn, who had recently moved to the area. Kurt's parents, Burt and Carole, lived nearby, making it a perfect opportunity for a family reunion.
As they pulled up to Puck and Quinn's house, Kurt noticed Puck sitting on the front porch, dressed in his Air Force fatigues. He was holding a rifle, and Burt couldn't help but chuckle and shake his head when he noticed a water gun lying on the porch and caught a faint smell of urine.
"Looks like someone's been having fun," Burt said with a grin as he got out of the car.
Puck looked up and smiled. "Hey, guys! Welcome!" he called out, waving them over.
Kurt, Blaine, and Tracy walked up to the porch, with Tracy holding onto her dad's hands. "Hi, Uncle Puck!" she said cheerfully.
"Hey there, Tracy! How's my favorite little girl?" Puck asked, ruffling her hair.
"Good! Daddy and Papa said we're gonna have a picnic!" Tracy exclaimed.
"That's right," Kurt said, smiling at his daughter. "And it looks like Uncle Puck has been busy."
Quinn came out of the house, carrying a tray of lemonade. "Hi, everyone! It's so good to see you," she said, giving each of them a hug.
"Hi, Quinn! Thanks for having us," Blaine said, taking a glass of lemonade.
As they all settled on the porch, Burt couldn't help but ask, "So, Puck, what's with the rifle?"
Puck sighed, his expression turning serious. "We've had some trouble with homophobic jerks around here. Just like the old days with Mr. H., I want to make sure my family is safe."
Burt nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. "I get it, Puck. Just be careful."
Puck gave a small smile. "Thanks, Burt. I appreciate it."
As they continued to chat and catch up, the atmosphere gradually lightened. Kurt couldn't help but feel grateful for the support and love that surrounded them. He knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would face them together as a family.
As the afternoon went on, everyone gathered in the backyard for a picnic. The sun was shining, and the atmosphere was filled with laughter and joy. Kurt and Blaine were sitting on a blanket with Tracy, while Puck and Quinn were setting up the grill. Burt and Carole were chatting nearby, enjoying the family time.
Two-year-old Junior, who had been playing with his toys, suddenly noticed Blaine sitting close to Kurt. With a determined look on his face, he toddled over and squeezed himself between them, pushing Blaine aside.
"Hey, buddy," Blaine said with a smile, moving over to give Junior some space.
Junior looked up at Kurt with big, adoring eyes. "Hi, Kurt," he said, his voice full of affection.
Kurt chuckled and ruffled Junior's hair. "Hi, Junior. Are you having fun?"
Junior nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah! Play with me?"
Kurt glanced at Blaine, who was smiling knowingly. "Sure, Junior. What do you want to play?"
As Kurt and Junior started playing with some toy cars, Burt and Puck couldn't help but chuckle at the scene. "Looks like someone's a little jealous," Burt said with a grin.
Puck laughed. "Yeah, he's got a bit of a crush on Kurt. Can't blame him, though."
Quinn and Carole, who had been watching the interaction, exchanged amused glances. "You two, stop encouraging him," Quinn said with a laugh.
Carole nodded in agreement. "Yeah, let the poor boy have his moment."
Everyone laughed, and the playful atmosphere continued. Kurt and Blaine shared a knowing look, both feeling grateful for the love and support of their extended family. As the day went on, they all enjoyed the simple pleasures of being together, knowing that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would face them as a united family.
As the picnic continued, Tracy and Junior were playing together with their toys. However, Tracy noticed how much attention Junior was giving to Kurt and decided to confront him in her adorable way.
"Junior, why do you always want to play with my Daddy?" Tracy asked, crossing her arms and pouting.
Junior looked up, his cheeks turning a bit pink. "Because I like Kurt," he said shyly.
Tracy huffed and put her hands on her hips. "But he's my Daddy! You can't have him!"
Junior frowned and clutched his toy car tightly. "I can like him too!"
Kurt, who had been watching the exchange, couldn't help but smile. He leaned over and gently placed a hand on Tracy's shoulder. "Hey, Tracy, it's okay. Junior can like me too. We can all play together."
Tracy's pout softened, and she looked at Junior. "Okay, but you have to share," she said firmly.
Junior nodded eagerly. "Okay, we share."
Burt and Puck, who had been observing the interaction, chuckled. "Looks like we've got a little love triangle going on," Burt said with a grin.
Puck laughed. "Yeah, it's cute. They're just kids being kids."
Quinn and Carole, who were nearby, couldn't help but laugh as well. "You two are terrible," Quinn said, shaking her head with a smile.
Carole nodded in agreement. "But it's all in good fun."
As the day went on, Tracy and Junior continued to play together, their little disagreement forgotten. The family enjoyed the rest of the picnic, filled with laughter, love, and the joy of being together. Kurt and Blaine shared a knowing look, both feeling grateful for the support and love that surrounded them. They knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would face them as a united family.
The family was enjoying their time together, the laughter and joy filling the air. Suddenly, the sound of a truck driving by caught their attention. A voice yelled out from the truck, "Oh look, more fairies. Hey, Puck, do the world a favor and drown that little fairy!"
The words hung in the air, and everyone froze. Puck's face turned red with anger, and without a second thought, he grabbed a baseball bat that was leaning against the porch. He charged at the truck, his eyes blazing with fury.
"What did you say about my son?" Puck yelled, swinging the bat and shattering the truck's windows.
The truck screeched to a halt, and the driver, a man with a sneer on his face, looked shocked. "Hey, man, calm down!" he shouted, trying to shield himself from the flying glass.
Puck didn't back down. "You don't ever talk about my son like that!" he roared, his grip tightening on the bat.
Burt and Blaine quickly ran over to Puck, trying to calm him down. "Puck, it's not worth it," Burt said, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Yeah, let's just get back to the family," Blaine added, his voice soothing.
Puck took a deep breath, his anger slowly subsiding. He lowered the bat and turned back to his family, who were watching with wide eyes. "I'm sorry, guys," he said, his voice trembling. "I just... I can't stand people like that."
Kurt walked over and placed a hand on Puck's arm. "We understand, Puck. You're just protecting your family."
Quinn and Carole, who had been comforting the kids, nodded in agreement. "We're all here for each other," Quinn said softly.
As they all gathered together, the sense of unity and love grew even stronger. They knew that no matter what challenges they faced, they would stand together as a family, protecting and supporting each other through it all.
As the evening settled in, the family gathered inside the house. The kids were playing in the living room, and the adults were chatting and enjoying each other's company. Puck, however, seemed a bit distant, his mind still on the earlier incident.
Burt noticed and decided to have a private conversation with him. "Hey, Puck, can we talk for a minute?" he asked, nodding towards Junior's room.
Puck nodded and followed Burt into the room, closing the door behind them. Junior's room was filled with toys and colorful decorations, a stark contrast to the serious conversation they were about to have.
"What's on your mind, Puck?" Burt asked, his voice gentle.
Puck sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "It's been tough, Burt. Ever since we moved to Washington DC, we've been dealing with guys like that. It all started when Junior kissed another boy at daycare. They kicked him out because of it."
Burt's expression softened with understanding. "I'm sorry to hear that, Puck. That's not right."
Puck nodded, his eyes filled with frustration. "Quinn and I have been trying to protect him, but it's hard. People can be so cruel. I just want him to grow up in a world where he can be himself without fear."
Burt placed a reassuring hand on Puck's shoulder. "You're doing the best you can, Puck. And you're not alone in this. You've got family and friends who care about you and Junior. We'll face this together."
Puck took a deep breath, feeling a bit of the weight lift off his shoulders. "Thanks, Burt. It means a lot to hear that."
Burt smiled warmly. "Anytime, Puck. We're all here for each other."
As they left Junior's room and rejoined the family, Puck felt a renewed sense of determination. He knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would face them together as a united family, protecting and supporting each other through it all.
