Chapter 1: Books to Read
One hot third Saturday of July 2024, I met up with my childhood friends Sarah, James, and Henri as well as some of my other childhood friends Carly Shay and Spencer Puckett, along with Carly's stepdad, Freddie Benson, at the Pittsburgh's Perfect Parties office in Monroeville for a show-and-tell on books. "Hi, guys!" I greeted my friends. "Hi, Angel!" Sarah greeted back. We jammed out to Kate Bush, NSYNC, and the Pop2Kountdown from 2007 with their personal favorite song "Makes Me Wonder" still on the countdown, but a little bit lower, beaten out by 6 other songs from this week around that time. "We have a few of our favorite books to share," James stated. "The first one is about worry." "I didn't worry as much as I did a kid, but now that I am older, I worry sometimes as much as my brother and stepsister do." "One of my big worry moments was when I couldn't get Phillis to be my girlfriend, and I thought that I was a worthless guy," James stated, "but then I realized that I was not." "The other book is about school, in which I enjoyed reading because it takes me back to my school days. I am considered to be the natural group leader of the group during projects, which makes sense, and Carly would be the worker bee." "Really, Sarah?" Carly asked. "Can we share our favorite books now?" "Of course," Sarah stated. "My favorite is the book about parties because they are always so fun," Carly stated. "I threw a really awesome party prior to my first year of high school. This takes me back to 2 weeks ago when we were talking about parties and 2004 was the featured year in the Pop2Kountdown." "Did you throw any other parties besides the one held after your high school ski trip, James?" Spencer asked. "I threw a few, Spencer," James replied. "But, none of them were as memorable or great as the one that I threw prior to my halfway point of high school." "My favorite part was the food and cake section, Mr. Benson," Henri stated, licking his lips. "Can we have a snack after this?" "We will be getting free ice cream at Spectrodolce at the mall after we are done, Henri," Mr. Benson stated. "Oh boy!" Henri happily exclaimed. "My favorite book is about friends," I pointed out. "Around the same weekend that 2007 was featured on the Pop2Kountdown, we had a discussion group about friendship so I thought that I would bring this one back." Then, we went to Spectrodolce at Monroeville Mall for free ice cream. Afterwards, we headed home for the night. "Thanks for a great evening, everyone!" I thanked my friends. "You're welcome, Angel," Sarah replied. "Good night, guys!" "Good night!"
