"Eventually Robotnik moved to a town that we didn't know the name of at the time. Me, Tails, Knuckles and Amy moved there and met a badger named Sticks who decided to join us. Team Sonic had gotten bigger and Tails had created more things to help us with Robotnik. Shadow came along as backup but only me and Shadow know that. Tikal and Chaos are watching the Master Emerald and Chaos Emeralds for us for now. If we ever need them we just have to go to Angel Island and they'll give them to us. After all my years of being in hiding, it was a little easier for me to adapt to this town. Amy and Tails were a different story while Knuckles understood. But as we got older, we changed mentally and physically, including Robotnik and one day he turned on us again, but with different people…"
At Seaside Island Team Sonic was engaged in a battle against Eggman's Badniks when a Bee Bot fired a laser blast at Tails just as Team Sonic split up, but he bat it away with his wrench, scoring a direct hit and destroying the Bee Bot that fired it while Eggman appeared in the Egg Mobile.
"Hey! No backsies!" Eggman said.
As another Bee Bot fired a laser blast, Amy whacked it with her hammer, turning it into pieces. A Ball Bot bounces towards Sticks, but she used a net to contain it and swung it, throwing the Ball Bots away while Sonic spin attacked a group of Crab Bots.
"Strike!" Sonic said.
"Sonic!" Knuckles said and ran towards her. "How about a lift?" he asked and she deployed an Enerbeam.
Then they grabbed the ends and she spun him around, let him go and he flew directly through a group of Motobugs.
"Next time, look where you're going!" Knuckles and banged his head into a boulder, knocking him unconscious as he fell to the ground.
"Knuckles! We better wrap this one up." Amy said so Sonic Homing Attacks three more robots before returning back and Team Sonic stared at Eggman.
"Well. My evening's just opened up. Maybe I'll check out that new falafel place. I have a coupon for unlimited hummus. So long, losers!" Eggman said and fled while the rest of Team Sonic checked on Knuckles, who rolled on his back, groaning.
Later at Sonic's Shack Knuckles woke up in Sonic's hammock, with Sonic, Tails, Amy and Sticks standing around him.
"Whoa. Where am I?" Knuckles asked.
"You're in Sonic's Shack." Amy said.
"Oh cool. Who's Sonic?"
"I'm afraid that blow to the head must have given Knuckles amnesia." Tails said.
"Pft. You mean like in hacky sitcoms?" Sonic asked.
"No." He said and paused. "But just in case, we should take him to a familiar place to refresh his memory, like in hacky sitcoms."
Later they were at a beach in Seaside Island.
"Your name is Knuckles. You're an echidna from Angel Island, and you're the last of your kind." Amy said.
"You love lifting heavy stuff. You're the strongest one here." Sticks said and Knuckles looked at Sonic.
"Clearly." He said and Sonic groaned.
"Try lifting some weights. Maybe that'll jog your memory." Tails said and Knuckles lifted up his weight.
"I'm still not remembering anything." Knuckles said and Sticks screamed scaring him and causing him to toss the weight up in the air that landed on his injured head, knocking him out cold again.
"Sticks, what the heck?!" Sonic asked.
"Everyone knows the best way to cure somebody of amnesia is to scare them." Sticks said.
"That's hiccups." Amy said frowning.
"Well, no harm, no foul."
"Whoa. What happened?" Knuckles asked hurt.
"You're awake." Sonic said and showed him two fingers. "How many fingers am I holding up?"
"Oho Sonic. You know I can't count past three."
"Just to be safe, why don't you tell us who you are and what you remember about yourself." Amy said.
"I'm Knuckles the Echidna. I'm from Angel Island. I'm the beloved leader of this group, and..." he said. "the last of my kind." He said glumly and blowed the seeds on a dandelion away and the wind plowed past him.
"Why so glum? You always knew you were the last of your kind." Tails said.
"Yeah, but suffering from head trauma really got me thinking clearly for the first time." Knuckles said. "Until I find a family, I'm all alone in this world." he said upset.
Later Knuckles was at Village Center knocking on the door and the Warthog Male opened it, frowning at him holding a card and a suitcase.
"Greetings, good sir or madam. My name is Knuckles and I am the last of my…" Knuckles said reading a card and the Warthog Male abruptly shut the door.
Later.
"For only pennies a day, you too can sponsor an echidna just like…" Knuckles said and another door closed in front of him.
Later.
"I just wanna be loved! Is that so wrong?" Knuckles asked wailing outside the house.
Warthog Male: Maybe you should try another house." Warthog Male said.
Later the Child Monkey closed his doors in front of Knuckles, making Knuckles sad.
Later the Rabbit Girl closed her doors in front of him.
Later the Fennec Male closed his doors in front of a smiling Knuckles.
Later Knuckles knocked on Mrs. Vandersnout's door and she opened it.
"Hey, can I live with you? No? Okay, I understand." Knuckles said and walked away.
"Wait! I'll take you in. I could use a strapping young man like you to help around the house." Mrs. Vandersnout said.
"Unpaid manual labor is just as good as unconditional love. I'm in!" he said excited, walked through the door looking around the room and picked up a photo while Mrs. Vandersnout took it from him.
"That's my late husband. Oh how he loved taking old-timey photos in that kiosk at the mall." she said and he wanted to sit on the sofa but she stopped him. "Stop! The furniture is only for company."
"But I thought I was company."
"Well, aren't you sassy for a houseboy?"
Later Mrs. Vandersnout rides pulled rickshaw that Knuckles was pulling.
"Make haste, young man. We don't want to miss the Early Bird Special." she said while Team Sonic watched Knuckles run by looking confused and Sonic shrugged.
"Part of me wanted to call Sonia and ask her to take him to the castle for a mental checkup but knew if I did my identity would be exposed and I wasn't ready for that."
Later tat afternoon they were at Meh Burger.
"It's so much better eating supper at 4:00 p.m. None of the usual riffraff." Mrs. Vandersnout said.
"Oh, hey Knuckles." Amy said.
"Ah! Riffraff?"
"Guys. Let me introduce you to my new grandmother: Mrs. Vandersnout." Knuckles said and she hissed while protecting her purse.
"She seems... nice." Tails said hesitantly.
"She sure is. I got to spend all day doing fun stuff like playing mahjong, writing angry letters to the newspaper, removing skeletons from her bird feeder."
"Oh, look at the time. We need to head back if we want to be in bed by 5:30." Mrs. Vandersnout said.
"Grandma, you're embarrassing me in front of my friends!" Knuckles said annoyed.
"My house, my rules! If you don't like it, then I'll find a new house!" she said angrily and walked off, grabbing Dave the Intern around the neck with her cane.
"Hey! Can we swing by my mom's place to get my retainer?" Dave asked.
"I'll never forget all the good times we had together." Knuckles said and thought but got nothing. "That probably would've been a lot more impressive if we'd actually had any good times. Oh well. I can't let that stop me." he said. "I have to find my family." he said clinging his fist.
Later at Gogoba Village.
"Welcome, Knuckles. The newest member of our tribal family. Sure, he's one more mouth to feed during this terrible famine, but that's okay." Gogoba Chief said and one Gogoba came rushing in.
"A boulder is blocking access to the well. I could move it, even though the weight will blow out my knees and I'll lose my athletic scholarship." Gogoba said panting.
"As the newest member of the family, I'll move the boulder!" Knuckles said and the Gogobas gasp in horror at him.
"Your friendly and helpful demeanor is an insult to our humble shame-mongering culture. It's clear now, you'll never be one of us!" Gogoba Chief said and Knuckles groaned and walks away. "Oh sure, go on, leave us without any well water. We'll just die of thirst."
"Fine. I'll move the boulder." Knuckles said and walked away.
Later at Seaside Island Knuckles was walking alone the beach with his suitcase in hand when he noticed Stratford and Chumley playing in the sand, with Lady Walrus sitting on a sun bed reading and he walked over to her.
"Say. You look like well-adjusted folk. But hopefully I'm wrong, and you're actually the kind of people who'll take in a weird stranger as a member of your family." He said.
"Well, I always wanted a daughter." Lady Walrus said.
"I'm not a girl."
"I said, I always wanted a daughter!" she said angrily.
Later at Meh Burger Knuckles was wearing a dress and a hairbow while sitting with Lady Walrus and her children at their table while the rest of Team Sonic watched him from their table.
"In my opinion, that was mentally traumatizing and I was getting really close to taking him to a mental hospital. Even if that meant exposing who I am."
"Careful not to stain your brand-new dress, pumpkin." Lady Walrus said.
"Heartbreaking, isn't it." Amy said.
"Yeah, floral print really draws attention to all the wrong areas." Sonic said.
"I say we hit him on the head again." Sticks said.
"Oh sweet. A Councilman McMeh toy." Stafford said.
"Is that the one with pencil-pushing action?" Knuckles asked. "Oh Gimme!" He said aggressively, tried to snatch the toy from Stratford and they fought over it. "Let go!"
"It's mine!" Stratford said.
"No it's not!"
"It's..."
"This isn't working! I was expecting a daughter who is more ladylike." Lady Walrus said.
"I can be ladylike! Watch!" Knuckles said panicking and looked at Lady Goat sitting alone. "I love your shoes!" He said in a girly voice and she looked back at him. "I don't really love her shoes." he whispered to Lady Walrus. "Huh? Huh?" he said and stood up excitedly but she shook her head and walked off, with her children following and Knuckles sulked.
Later that night Knuckles was at Village Center sitting alone on a bench when Charlie and Belinda walked over to him.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't my arch nemesis Knuckles." Charlie said.
"I'm sorry. Have we met?" Knuckles asked.
"Of course we met!" Charlie said angrily. "You got me fired from two different jobs. You almost ended my marriage. You ruined my life!" he aid clenching his fist.
"Oh yeah. How you doing?" Knuckles asked and Charlie growled at him. "Hmm... I'm not doing so hot either. I just want a family. I can't find one."
"Maybe we can be your family." Belinda said.
"Honey, what are you doing? Why would you invite him into our home? He's a demon incarnate." Charlie said quietly and they watched Knuckles petting a rabbit.
"Well, I'll admit his shoes are awful, but don't you get it? The ultimate revenge would be to prey on his vulnerabilities. First, we welcome him into our family. Then, we turn him to the side of evil." She said quietly and they laughed evil.
Then Knuckles joined in but they stop and he wrapped his arms around them.
"There's one thing I learned from my time as teenage walrus girl. It's you gotta go along to get along." Knuckles said.
Knuckles, Charlie and Belinda flew their kites. They watched Comedy Chimp with Knuckles and Belinda throwing some popcorn and they all laugh at each other. Knuckles was setting the barbecue on fire and Charlie blew out the fire with the extinguisher. They laughed at themselves. Knuckles took a toy from the table and Charlie tried to grab it back but Belinda held him back to his seat.
The next day Knuckles was at Village Center strolling along with a bag of food whistling when Sonic appeared and walked up to him.
"Hey, Knuckles. What's up?" Sonic asked.
"Oh just picking up dinner for my family. Went to that new falafel place. It got stellar reviews on Eggman's food blog. Yeah, but enough chitchat. Charlie and Belinda are waiting." Knuckles said.
"Charlie and Belinda?! But they're villains! They tried to destroy you."
"How dare you use facts to besmirch my family!" he said angrily. "A family who's loved and taken care of me for the past 22 and a half hours. You're a heartless monster!" He said up set, broke down crying and dropped the bag and runs away.
Meanwhile Charlie and Belinda were at home and Belinda was watering a plant and Charlie was ready the newspaper when Knuckles walked in crying and covered his eyes on a pillow.
"Knuckles, dear. What's wrong?" Belinda asked.
"Sonic. She said you guys were vi-vi-v-villains!" Knuckles said sobbing.
"I think it's time for the talk." she said and he sat on Charlie's lap when a loud snap was heard.
"You see, we are villains. But that doesn't make us bad people." Charlie said
"Well, technically it does. But we took you in when no one else would. And if you want to continue being part of this family, then you'll have to be a villain too." she said and Knuckles blinked, shed a tear and bit his lip thinking about the last time this happened.
Later Sonic, Tails, Amy and Sticks were walking around the Village Center.
"Ugh... If I never eat baba ghanoush again, it'll be too soon." Sonic said.
Suddenly they got a fright, jumped out of the way as lasers were fired at the ground, looked up and saw Charlie in his Mech Suit and Knuckles while Charlie roared with evil laughter.
"Sorry guys. Nothing personal. But family comes first!" Knuckles said looking mostly at Sonic.
"They more times he turned his back on me the less trust I had for him."
"Now Knuckles, be a good boy and..." Belinda said. "Thrash 'em! Go for the jugular!" she said shrieking and he unleashed the ground pound at Team Sonic.
They all jumped out of the way and he tried to ground pound Amy, but she dodged. He tried to ground pound Sonic, but she dodged the attack as well. Sticks flipped over onto the rock and back to the ground when he tried to ground pound her and Tails walked up to him from behind.
"Hey! Quit it!" Tails said while Charlie's Mech suit fired lasers at him, but he dodged.
Charlie roared and fired more lasers at Amy who unleashed her hammer and deflected the laser shot back at him. He ducked down and dodged it. Suddenly, he was trapped in a net that Sticks has thrown, and fell to the ground. The rest of Team Sonic gather around and watched him, only to get knocked away by Knuckles' ground pound. Knuckles, retreating back to Charlie's Mech Suit, threw the net away and pulled the suit up. Sonic got up and Homing Attacks the mech suit, but Knuckles got in her way and she avoided contact with him by turning away.
"Out of the way Knux!" Sonic said and shut her eyes. "I'm not gonna fight you!"
"They won't fight Knuckles." Belinda said. "Use him as a human shield!" she said shrieking at Charlie who hid behind Knuckles, laughing evilly and uncontrollably firing lasers.
Knuckles: It's a good thing that after a day and a half together I'm securing your unconditional love for me, or I might take this the wrong way." Knuckles said and the rest of Team Sonic dodged Charlie's lasers.
Sonic tried a Homing Attack to hit the side of Charlie's Mech Suit, but Charlie saw it, gripped Knuckles, held him in front of her and she turned away and stood next to Amy, Tails and Sticks.
"Ow! Charlie, I'm not sure that this is the how families treat each other." Knuckles said.
"You imbecile! We're not family. Are you so dense you don't even know when someone is taking advantage of you?" Charlie asked.
"Hmm... This really gives me something to think about. But I don't like thinking, I like action!" Knuckles said, threw Charlie's Mech suit, slamming it to the ground and Amy pound it with her hammer, Sticks covered it with her net and Sonic Homing Attacks it three times.
"Kids. You try and teach him right from wrong and they just disappoint you... By picking right." Charlie said and Belinda took him off his mech suit and they both ran off.
"Glad to have you back, Knuckles." Sonic said glaring at him a little and he winced.
"Sorry guys. I now realize I had a family all along: Charlie and Belinda. No, wait. I know this. It's on the tip of my tongue." Knuckles said and stuck his tongue out. "What does it say?"
"We're your family Knuckles." Amy said and they hugged each other.
"I wish I had a family like that. Maybe someday someone will knock on my door. Oh, I'd take them in and treat them as my own. Oh well... That never happens." Old Monkey said and walks while Dave is seen pulled Mrs. Vandersnout's rickshaw.
"He may be my best friend, but we still have a rocky relationship after all the times he turned his back on us and he knows that. Who am I? I am Sonic the Hedgehog, hero and princess of Mobius. Until Robotnik is finished, I will keep saving people. And when he's gone, I'll expose who I am and take my place as queen. But for now, I am Sonic the Hedgehog, leader of Team Sonic, former leader of Sonic Underground, Freedom Fighter and Resistance member. The oldest child of Queen Aleena, older sister of princess Sonia and prince Manic."
