Before this hellish escapade starts, I want to make it very clear that I DON'T own Helltaker. This is just a little fanfic story I wanted to make for the sake of entertaining others. I will keep updating this story, once a week at the very least. So stay tuned. =)

Chapter 1: Prologue

Oblivion… the feeling of total hopelessness. The feeling that you get when no one is able to come to your aid. The feeling that, no matter what you do, nothing can save you from what's to come, if there is anything in the first place. That's the feeling Damien had one fateful night.

He was fourteen years old and he watched his parents leave the house. He didn't think anything of it at first, since he was allowed to play his video games in the living room until they got back. However, after six hours of silence, Damien had the feeling that something was wrong. Being the wise boy that he was, he decided to turn on the news, because maybe he could find something about where they might be, either in the form of an amber alert or a breaking news story.

He didn't actually expect there to be one, but there was a breaking news story. His mother and father were in the car and his father swerved to get out of the way from hitting a deer. However, he wasn't paying much attention and they got into a head-on collision with another car, which was going at a pretty lethal speed. This is how Damien found out that his parents died in a car crash.

Damien watched the news wide-eyed. He looked at the damage from both the car that his parents were in, and the car that crashed into them, and he was in complete and utter despair. When he cried that night, he cried for what felt like ages, even though it was only around forty-five minutes. The feeling in his chest tore him apart mentally. His face was tingling and he had trouble breathing normally. When he went to bed that night, he knew that this moment would be lodged in the back of his memory for his entire life.

When Damien woke up that next morning, he decided that he would teach himself how to do the basic chores that people do to keep themselves alive and thriving. That day, he taught himself how to clean the house and do the laundry. He knew how to cook already because his mother taught him. Besides, he could easily just look up a recipe online for something to make if he really wanted to.

For seven grueling, lonely years, this is the way Damien lived. Aside from the occasional friend dropping by to hang out and to keep him from going insane, he was alone, keeping his house in proper condition. He also ended up getting a job as a cashier at a convenience store. Although it wasn't the best, Damien was content with the way he was living.

Well, that was the case… until the portal showed up.
