Hello Sonic Fans! We are one week away from The Knuckles live action series so what better time for me to post a movie Knuckles centric fan-fiction. Now, I am quite new to the Sonic fandom and only really got into it after watching the second movie. Knuckles quickly became my favorite character so fair warning this fiction (and others if I actually write them) will focus on the echidna. Being new to the fandom, I would appreciate the vetting of long time fans and those familiar with Sonic lore/characterisation as I always want to be true to my characters.
Without further ado, enjoy a sneak peak:
Many hours had passed, the village was still, night had fallen. Small violet eyes peered out the door, waiting, wondering. It had been far too long... They'd left that morning and the sun had set hours ago. His father told him to stay put and you never disobeyed the patriarch, but, he was worried... and scared. He knew he could help, his father had rigorously trained him for years for these very scenarios. He had to help. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. A warrior showed no fear. A determination setting in his eyes, the young echidna ventured out silently. Making not a sound, the little warrior quickly maneuvered the landscape, tracking his tribe's movements. It took some time, but he eventually came upon a trio of bridges and round cottage. He quickly dashed across the bridges and silently peered inside. Clear evidence indicated the confrontation had begun here. Arrows riddled the door, glass was spread along the floor from a broken window and scuffing could be seen on the floor from his clan's shoes. He could feel his heart pounding in his chest and his own quivering from the adrenaline. He took another steadying breath and listened for the slightest sound. Searching for the owl at night was extremely dangerous for night was their element. His father would tell him to hide, not make a sound, not let the owl find you and swoop down unheard to crush you with their powerful talons. Children were vulnerable, he was not ready yet. He was the future of their tribe, the last surviving child... He should turn back... He closed his eyes and clenched his fists. He couldn't turn back! Something was wrong. He needed to find his tribe, he had to help. He looked around, controlling his breathing to stay silent. Small talon marks on the door indicated the owl had kicked it shut for cover. From what he could observe, it seemed the owl had broken through a window taking flight while his tribe pursued on foot. He ducked outside of the house and continued his pursuit. That's when he found the battleground...
The great owl had fallen, members of his tribe were scattered everywhere. This, this didn't make any sense. The tribe were to wound the owl and capture the blue creature in her charge in order to learn of the Master Emerald but this, this was a massacre. The great owl was powerful in her own right, but this was his entire tribe! How could this be? The small echidna looked around, he cautiously went and began nudging members of his clan. None had survived, their fur matted as if it had rained, their bodies broken. The owl was the same. Knuckles approached a particular warrior adorned in blue, his feather headdress tattered. The little echidna gently touched him and whined softly trying to rouse him, but, the warrior didn't move. He was dead like all the rest, his body cold. That warrior was the boy's father. Knuckles gently ran a hand down Locke's forehead and touched his own forehead to his father's closing his eyes as he did so. His mind was a fog, his body trembling, his chest tightened the more reality hit him. They were... everyone was... his father was... his eyes tightened shut and he fought the tears; he was a warrior and a warrior showed no fear.
