Chapter 16
Tori was sitting at the dining room table eating her Coco Puffs, when the doorbell rang. Rory stepped to the top of the stairs, "Tori, that's Logan at the door, let him in." Rory told her. "She's on her way to open the door." Rory was on the phone with Logan. She had opened the gate for him.
Tori opens the door. "Hey Logan," Tori said. "Mom's getting ready. Do you want some cereal? I got Coco Puff," she paused like she was thinking, "but I think Momma's got some Rice Krispies if you want or a pop tart."
"Thank you for asking," Logan said as he followed her back to the dining room. "But I've already had breakfast."
Tori just shrugged her shoulders, and sat back down to finish her cereal. "If you don't mind, I'll sit with you while you finish?"
"Hey," Rory said as she entered the dining room, putting on her earrings.
"Hey," Logan said. He stood up and kissed her on the cheek. Tori cut her eyes.
"We'll be ready to go as soon as slow poke finishes her cereal." Rory said, ruffling Tori's hair.
"I like your pig tails," Logan told her.
"Momma fixed them." She said then wiped her mouth with her napkin, stood up and took her bowl and cup into the kitchen.
"Just put it on the counter, don't try to put it in the sink." Rory told her. "Go wash your hands and brush your teeth."
They both watched her walk out of the room. "We can take my car. Her booster seat is already secured." She told him.
"I was hoping so. I ordered my car last month. It should be ready to pick up soon. I have been driving my Porsche 911. I have been driving it around Hartford. Taking a car service if I went any further out." Logan told her.
"What kind of car are you looking for?" she asked.
"A Cayenne S Platinum Edition. Stephanie drives a Taycan Cross Turismo, I was with Colin when he ordered it. I looked at the Cayenne S Platinum Edition then. That was three years ago."
"Daddy went with me to order my car. He insisted he buy me a car before Tori was born, I was still driving Grandma's car. She can drive any more. He bought me a GX 460. He insisted it had 4 wheel drive. I liked it so when it came time to trade, I just went with the newer model.
They looked up when they heard Tori coming down the stairs. "Get your coat and gloves, it's going to be cold walking around the festival." Rory told her.
"I can just go to Papa Luke's when I get cold." Tori told her.
"Get your blue coat with the gloves attached." Rory told her. Logan was trying to contain his smile. Tori turned around and went back to her room to get her coat. "Don't you dare laugh." She said to Logan.
"But she is still cute," he said. Rory rolled his eyes.
On the short drive to Stars Hollow, they listened to music, one of Tori's choice, one of Logan's choice and one of Rory's choice.
Rory parked at her Mom's, that way they can leave when they want. Tori jumped out of the car as soon as it stopped.
"Woah there Little T" Rory said. "You have got to wait on me and Logan. Come here. Let me put your toboggan on."
She came around to Rory's side of the car. "I don't want to wear that. My pigtail wont' show." Tori said.
"It is cold out here." Rory told her. "I don't want to spend next week in the doctor's office."
Tori was pouting, but she stood still while Rory put the toboggan on her head.
"Hey," Logan said. "I have an idea. Let me ask you mom first. I don't want to over step."
"What does overstep mean?" Tori asked.
Logan smiled and pulled Rory to the back of the car. "How important is that hat?"
She shrugged her shoulders "She has a dozen or so at home."
"Well, just cut the hole out for the pigtails." He told her. She started laughing.
They went into the house, Rory found the scissors and cut the holes. Put the hat on Tori and pulled the pigtail through.
They walked to the festival. When they got close, Tori picked up speed. "Slow down. Come back and let me talk to you." Rory said.
"You have to have an adult with you today, or at least in eye sight. If you can get Steve or Kwan, Martha or Davey, that will be fine." She said,
She pulled some bills out of the pocket of her jeans. She pushed it into the pocket of her coat and zipped the pocket up. "That is for snacks. Don't eat so much that you make your tummy ache and don't be wasteful." Toni nodded her head. Logan thought she looked so cute in her puff blue coat and her pink mittens. Her pigtails sticking out of her hat.
"Go on to the gazebo and get your arm band, We will be right behind you." Rory told her. She took off running. "Be respectful" Rory yelled at the last minute.
"I would not let her go like that anywhere else." She told him. "Stars Hollow is like a big playground with 50 nannies." Logan nodded. He was not worried. He knows Rory is a good mother.
When they got to the gazebo, Martha was putting the arm band on Tori. When she finished, Rory gave her the money for it.
"Momma," Tori said. "Martha is taking a break. She said she would go with me."
Rory nodded. "Martha, just find us when you have to go back or get tired of her."
"Yes Ma'am." Martha said.
Rory and Logan walked around the booths, looking at some of the artwork on display, T. J. is at Liz's jewelry booth. They stopped by. Rory got her a pair of earrings and Tori a bracelet.
They walked toward Tori and Martha at the booth with the softballs.
"Looks like you almost got it." Logan told Tori.
"You got to get them all to get a big prize," She told him, pointing at the pink elephant.
"How many times have you tried?" Logan asked.
"I tried 2 times and Martha tried 1." She said turning to Martha like she should have knocked them down.
Martha chuckled and shook her head. "I'm gonna grab a funnel cake, then head back to my post. At 17 Martha was a lot like her mother. She enjoyed babysitting and spending time with children. She wants to be a kindergarten teacher.
"Can I try?" Logan asked. Tori studied here for a minute, then nodded her head. Pigtails flopping.
Logan discreetly laid a $20 bill on the table. It took him two tries, but he knocked the bottle pyramid down. Tori was jumping up and down.
"What did you win?" Tori asked excitedly.
Logan looked at the man behind the booth, who he later found out was Andrew. He stuck in hand in his pocket and pulled out a money clip, removing $20 more.
"Tori," Logan said. "You pick what you want."
"Really?" she asked. "I want the pink elephant."
Andrew removed the elephant from the shelf and gave it to her. Logan could not stop smiling.
They left to go to the carousel. Logan and Rory were going to ride with her. Logan paid for him and Rory while Tori showed her bracelet and started looking for the horse she wanted to ride.
"Logan, Logan," She yelled. "Come help me up." When Rory and Logan got to her, she was trying to climb up on a unicorn. It just happened to be in front of a bench.
"Here you go," Logan said as he lifted her up on the unicorn. Rory was on the other side buckling her in.
"Do not try to get down without help." Rory warned her. She nodded.
"Well, Ace" Logan said "You want to pick out a horse or ride the bench?"
"Can I ride the bench snuggled up to you?" she asked.
"It would be my pleasure?" he said.
They snuggled up on the bench, watching their daughter laughing, and having a good time. Logan appreciated being able to experience this with Rory. He just wished he experienced it sooner.
Rory saw Lane by the candy apple stand. "Lane!" Rory shouted. When they came back around to where Lane was, she was looking at Rory. "Get me one," Rory said. Lane nodded and got back in line.
While on the carousel, Rory waved at several of the town's folks. She saw Ms. Patty and Babette huddled together.. That would mean she would be in for a lot of questions, or maybe it would be Lorelia. That didn't sound like a good idea.
What Rory didn't see was the tall man standing behind his mother's booth, but he saw her.
They met Lane at the exit of the carousel. She was holding two candied apples and one caramel apple.
"Aunt Lane, is one of them for me?" Tori said, hugging her pink elephant. Lane looked to Rory.
"We can save it for later. It is sticky and you will get it all over Ella." Rory said.
She thought about it, then asked. "When we get home?" Rory nodded.
They visited several more booths. Some food, some games. Rory had to stop Logan from winning her any more prizes.
Around lunch time, they met Lorelai at Lukes. Tori wasn't hungry. She had been snacking all day.
"Just bring her some carrot sticks," Rory told Caesar.
"Are you being punished?" Lorelai asked.
"No," Rory told her. "She has been snacking since we got her. She said she wasn't hungry. I just want to get something healthy in her before she returns to the land of candy, cookies and funnel cakes."
"So if she is not being punished, can she spend the night with us?" Lorelai asked.
"Yes, please mommy." She begged.
Rory rolled her eyes. "Yes, but what if I had other plans for her. You came and asked her without asking me." Rory was laughing at the face Lorelia was making at Tori.
Luke came from upstairs "Hello ladies and Logan" he said. "Caesar got your order?" They nodded.
"Papa Luke," Tori said. "I'm coming to your house tonight."
"Is that right?" He asked.
"I'm going to watch movies with Lele, then sleep in the bed with you and Lele."
"Well," Luke said. "Maybe I will just sleep in your mom's room. What do you think about that?"
"I don't care. Lele do you care if Papa Luke sleeps in the other room?" She asked.
"Nope." She said popping the P. "I don't care."
The adults at the table started laughing.
Jess was standing just outside the door. He was trying to decide if he wanted to go in. He was staying in April's apartment upstairs, rather the apartment April stays in when she visits. Liz doesn't have enough room for him to stay with her.
The bell over the door rang. Everyone looked toward the door, Logan recognized Jess at first glance. He thought he saw him earlier.
"Jess," Luke said. "Come have a seat. We were just discussing where Tori will be sleeping tonight."
"No discuss. We decided." Tori said. The adults laughed. She was sure what was funny.
"So, tell me," Jess said. "Where will you be sleeping? On the porch? Maybe in the garden?"
Tori interrupted him before he could say anything else. "Lele don't have a garden at home. Her garden is at her work."
Caesar brought their plates. They ate and talked for a while. Jess didn't stay long, he headed upstairs. It was decided that Tori would just stay with Lele for the rest of the festival.
Rory kissed her goodbye, before she drug Lele out the door.
Logan lends over and whispers in her ear. "Does that mean we can have an adult night watching movies." Chills went down her spine when his breath met her ear.
"If you feed me first." She told him.
