Chapter 18
Sunday February 6, 2022
Rory was having a lazy Sunday, waiting for Lorelai to bring Tori home. She was stretched out on the couch reading a book. She put the book down when she realized she read the same paragraph 4 times now. She sighed. A smile crossed her lips as she let her mind wander back to yesterday. It had only been 12 days since he stepped back into their life. She often wondered how her and Tori's life would be different had Logan pushed to be in Tori's life. No need to think about that now, she has other things to concern herself with now.
She needed to talk with someone, but she wasn't sure who. Lorelia was out of the questions. Maybe Lane? Or Parsi? She shook her head no, then she thought about Finn. Finn knows her, Logan and Tori.
She turned when she heard the front door knob jiggle, then the doorbell rang. She opened the door to Logan and Harper. "Sorry, she tried to come in without knocking."
She smiled at Logan, then at Harper. "Harper, How are you? Haven't seen you all year." Rory said.
"I been busy," Harper said. Rory and Logan giggled. "Where's Tori?" she asked.
"Well, I thought that was who was at the door. She should be here any minute." Rory told them as she moved for them to enter the house from the foyer. Logan laid their coats on the bench in the foyer before following Rory.
"I'm sorry, we're early." Logan said. "I was hoping Tori was already here."
She shook her head. "No, but any minute." She told him.
"Any chance Luke is bringing her?" he asked.
She laughed "Oh, to have that kind of luck"
They had not made it to the living room before the door opened and Tori came running in Lorelai and Luke behind her.
"Hey, sweet pea." Rory said and Tori hugged her legs. "Did you have fun after I left?"
"Yes ma'am," she said, pulling away from Rory, "Papa Luke made chocolate pamcakes this morning"...She paused, like she was going to say something when she saw Harper. "Harper" She said and ran toward her. Both girls started talking like five year old best friends do. They were talking and walking toward the basement.
"Tori." Rory called after her. She turned to see what in the world her mom could want. She was busy with company. She spotted Logan.
"Hey Logan," Tory said and waved at him. Logan waved back. Lorelai was watching.
"What would you and Harper like for lunch?" Rory asked.
The two girls were talking amongst themselves. "Pizza," Tori said. "Cheese," Harper said.
"Okay, go play, I'll call you when it's ready." Rory told them. She looked at her watch to see what time it was. She turned to look at Lorelai and Luke, "are you staying for lunch?"
Lorelai started to speak, but Luke beat her to it. "No, Thanks but I've got to get back to the diner."
"Okay," Rory said. She was relieved. She hoped her face was't giving it away. She knows her and Lorelai will have a 'come to Jesus' meeting soon, just not yet. "Well, Thanks for bringing her home for me."
Luke nodded. "Not a problem. Lorelai?" he said, turning toward the door.
"I'll be a minute," She told him. "I need to use the bathroom."
He was watching her. "I'll be in the truck." he told her.
Several years ago, Luke broke down and bought a new truck, Lorelia went with him to look, she insisted on a four door truck.
Logan was sitting on the sofa, scrolling on his phone. Rory was watching her momma watch him. She decided to ignore her. She walked toward the drink cart, "Do you want a water?" she asked Logan.
"Sure," He said. "Do you want to just order two pizzas, one for the girls and one for us?"
She nodded. "I'll order," She said. "We prefer the pizzas at Nick's. She told him. I already have an account."
Logan wanted to argue that he needed to set up an account too, but Lorelai was lurking in the hall. She had moved toward the bathroom, but he didn't think she went in.
"What else does he have?" Logan asked.
"Burgers, milk shakes, Pizza, Cheesy bread. I"ll order cheesy bread too." Rory said. She was already dialing the number,
"Nick's?" he asked. He stood up, knowing Lorelai was still lurking in the hall. "Do I need to go pick it up?"
"No, Nick's nephew and another boy deliver on the weekend. Not too late on Sunday night. He stops cooking after lunch." She told him.
"Okay, I don't mind going." He said.
"No, that's okay." She said, "Hey Nick" and continued with her order.
Logan turned when heard the front door open. "She still in the bathroom?" Luke asked, referring to Lorelia.
"Here I am," Lorelia said.
"Bye, Hun," she said. Rory threw up her hand. She was still on the phone with Nick. "Bye, Logan," Logan nodded.
When the door shut, Logan looked back to make sure she left. "You know she was lurking in the hall. I'm pretty sure she didn't go to the bathroom." Logan told her.
"What?" Rory said, when she returned from the kitchen getting the plates for the pizza.
Logan smiled, "Never mind, Ace. I'll go check on the girls." he started walking toward the basement.
"No, Logan. What did you say?" she asked. Holding his hand to stop him from moving.
"Lorelai, She was lurking in the hall. I don't think she even went to the bathroom." He told her.
"Why would she do that?" Rory asked.
"I don't know, she's your mother, I can't explain my mother, much less yours" He told her.
They checked on the girls, staying down there with them until the doorbell rang for the pizza.
They ate pizza and cheesy bread, Rory and Logan cleaned up while the girls found a movie on Netflix to watch. They watched the 'Ice Age Adventure'. Rory and Logan laughed more at the girls than the movie.
Before it got too late, Logan and Harper left, with a promise from Harper she would see Tori tomorrow and from Logan he would call when he got back to his apartment.
Guess you are probably wondering 'did Logan spend the night Saturday night?' I haven't decided yet. Maybe a few reviews with suggestions could help me decide. If he did spend the night, that would be a flashback.
