Chapter 22
Rory agreed to the trip to Manhattan. They decided Tori and Rory would have dinner at Logan's Hartford apartment Wednesday night. Tori wanted to see where he lived. They would tell her about the trip to Manhattan then.
In the meanwhile, Rory and Sara sat down to go over schedule and grocery orders. She also talked with Kenzie to let her know she would not be needed this weekend. She also needed to make a call to her grandma to let her know that she and Logan were dating. She wanted to make sure she was aware, before someone sees them together and tells her. Hurting her grandma was the last thing she wanted.
She needed to let her dad and mom know she would be gone for the weekend also. She was dreading the conversation with her mom. She and Logan had lunch together Monday and he ate supper at the house Monday night.
She planned on eating lunch with him today after her conversation with her Grandma. She has put it off long enough. She was working on some edits in her home office, when she realized she could not concentrate. She texted Logan.
R: calling grandma now.
L: good luck, call me when you finish.
R: I will just tell you about it at lunch. She received a like on this text.
She dialed her Grandma in Nantucket: "Grandma" Rory said when Emily answered the phone.
"Rory, it is so nice to hear from you. How is everyone? Tori, doing well?" Emily said, sitting down in the sunroom where she left her tea.
"Yes ma'am, Tori and I are doing just fine." She told her. "Grandma, I have some good news I want to share. I would love to do this face to face, but I don't know if you will be coming to Hartford before summer. I want to tell you before someone else does. We aren't shouting it from the rooftops, but we are not hiding it either." She told her.
At this point, Emily had a smile a mile wide on her face. She was sure Rory was going to tell her she and Logan were together. She knew if Mitchum would just get out of the way, they could be together. Bless his soul. "Well, don't keep me in suspense, tell me." Emily said.
"Logan has moved back to Hartford. He is working mostly out of the Hartford office." She told her.
"Yes," she said. "I heard something about that." Emily may be in Nantucket and not an active member of D.A.R. but she still had an ear in Hartford and Hartford sociality.
"Well, we have been spending time together, Me, Tori and Logan and well, we have decided to date again." Rory paused when she heard Emily gasp. "He is falling head over heels in love with Tori. We are getting to know each other, the people we are now."
"Oh, Rory!" Emily said, you could hear the tear in her voice. "I am so happy for you. For all of you."
"Thank you, Grandma." Rory told her.
"You know this means he will have to come with you this summer? Oh, I can't wait to see him and Tori together." Emily said.
"Grandma, he wants me and Tori to spend the month of July with him on Martha's Vineyard. Mitchum gave him the house a few years ago. Honor will be in and out, but he wants us to stay the whole month." Rory told her.
"Oh, that is wonderful," Emily said, "But you are still coming to Nantucket as planned.?"
"Yes Ma'am, but maybe you could come visit us while we are there?" Rory said.
"Oh, yes," she said, "We will talk and coordinate."
"Good," Rory said. "Grandma, I hate to run, but I am meeting Logan for lunch, I still need to get ready. I can't go to lunch in what I took Tori to school in." She told her laughing. Emily laughed too.
Rory tells Logan about her conversation with Emily. "So," He said, "Does that mean you are coming to the Vineyard?"
She laughed and nodded her head, "But let's not tell Tori yet. Too much excitement."
After school Rory tells Tori not to change clothes. She explained they were going to Logan's apartment to eat supper.
Logan had instructed Rory where to park in the underground parking garage. She called him when they pulled into the garage. Tori was amazed. When they parked the car, Logan was waiting. He opened Tori's door and helped her out.
"Hope you are hungry." He told them on the way to the elevator.
"I am," Tori said. "I traded Timofy his turkey sandwich for my peanut butter and jelly. I didn't like his turkey sandwich. I shouldn't had done it." She told them. "So I ate my apple slices. I don't like the celery Sara put in my lunch."
"You had a snack when you got home." Rory told her.
"Yeah, but I still hungry." She told them.
"Well, I hope you like hamburgers and hotdogs and fries." Logan said.
"On the grill? Like Grampa Chris does?" she asked.
Logan looked at Rory. "On the patio?" she asked.
"Yeah, Like Grampa Chris. We are grilling on my terrace." He told them.
The elevator bell rang and the doors opened. They opened up into his apartment. Tori steps through, stopping and looking around.
"Do you approve?" Logan asked. Tori nodded her head.
Logan showed them around the living room, kitchen and terrace. He figured he would save the bedroom for after supper.
"What can I do to help?" Rory asked.
"Nothing. I got this. The hamburger patties are made and in the fridge, The hot dogs are just waiting for the grill to get hot." He told them. Rory smiled. She was sure his housekeeper had pattied the meat out.
"It's just a tad bit too cold to eat outside, so the two of you can just have a seat, see if you can find something on TV while I get these to the grill." Logan told them as he opened the doors.
After eating and cleaning up, Logan gave them a tour of his apartment. It wasn't long before Tori was yawning.
"Yeah, I think it is time for us to get going." Rory told him.
Logan mouthed Manhattan. Rory nodded. "Tori, I was thinking. You said you wanted to see both of my apartments," He said. She nodded. "Well, do you think you and mommy would like to come with me to my Manhattan apartment? We could fly over on a helicopter." Tori perked up then.
"Could we Mommy, I want to go on the helicopter?" She told her.
"I think we can do that, as long as I don't have any more emails from your teacher, like I got today." Rory told her,
Tori put her head down. "I'll be good." She told her.
"I know you will," Rory said.
