Chapter 23

Thursday morning, after taking Tori to school, Rory decided to bite the bullet. She called Chris first because she felt like she would get a lot of encouragement.

"Hey, Dad, I didn't catch you at a bad time, did I?" She said,

"Hey, Kiddo, No, I got a few minutes." He replied

"I just wanted to tell you that Tori and I are going to Manhattan this weekend." She told him

"Oh, what prompted this trip? I know you are not going with Gigi, she already called to say she was staying in New Haven this weekend." He told her.

"No, we are going with Logan. He is picking up his new car. He wanted us to come along. He is treating us to a kid's matinee." She told him.

"So, does this mean you and Logan are dating? I know that you usually don't introduce your dates to Tori." He said.

"Well, she already knows Logan as Finn's friend and Harper's Uncle. Besides, I think this will be a good idea." She told him

"Hey, I am not questioning your methods. You are a great mother, I know that you wouldn't do anything to hurt Tori." He said.

"I'm sorry, I just get so defensive. Logan and I go back a long way. We both know if it doesn't work this time, we will have to settle for being friends, or at least interacting with our friends together." She told him.

"Good. I am glad you have talked about this. This shows a lot of maturity in your relationship." He said.

"Yeah, I guess." She replied.

"Just know I am here for you and Tori, for whatever you need." He said. "You know what I mean."

Rory had a feeling he was saying more than his words showed. She felt like he knew what was happening. "Okay, I need to go. I have to have this same conversation with mom. Oh, yeah, I forgot to tell you. We are flying over on the helicopter. Tori is so excited."

"Okay, Kiddo, Have fun. Give Tori a kiss from me." Chirs said before hanging up.

Rory checked the time. Needed to get this over with.

R: Hey, just talked with Chris about the trip. Now to talk with Lorelai.

L: Good luck. Call me when you get off the phone. She liked the last text.

"Mom" Rory said when Lorelai answered the phone.

"Rory. I am so glad you called. You are not going to believe what Michel did. He was spraying the counter with Lysol and sprayed himself and a guest. I had to comp them their room. Michel was yelling. That part was funny." Lorelai said she was laughing.

"Mom!" Rory said. "Did you check on Michel. He could have blinded himself."

"Yes, I checked on him. Shooki had eye wash in her first aid kit." She told her.

"Good," Rory said. "Not that I don't like a good Michel story, that is not why I called. I wanted to tell you that Tori and I are going out of town this weekend. We are going to Manhattan to see a manatee."

"Oh, how nice." Lorelai said. "Are you meeting Grandma there? She was talking about it when we were in Nantucket last time."

"No," Rory said. "We are not going with Grandma, we are going with Logan." She braced herself.

"Logan," Lorelai said. "So you are dating Logan now? How long before he gets tired of playing daddy, playing house with you and Tori before he moves on? Rory, you know your history with him. You broke up for a reason. Do you think all your problems resolved themself when Mitchum died? I mean do you really think Mitchum was the whole reason you and Logan didn't work? You are too smart for this. You are not thinking. What will happen when he leaves and Tori is devastated? What happens then?"

"Mom, Mom, MOM." Rory said finally getting her attention. "I know how you feel. Yes I have thought about all of your questions and more, but I am willing to give it a try. If I don't try I will always wonder what would have happened, if I could truly be happy with someone."

Neither one said anything for a few moments.

"Mom, I have another call coming in. I will talk with you later." Rory said and hung up the phone. She knew she was going to be upset. She didn't like lying to Lorelai, well to anyone, but she couldn't take any more of her bad mouthing Logan, so she lied when she said someone else was calling.

She didn't call Logan immediately. She needed to get herself together before calling. She decided to take a nap before lunch. I couldn't hurt. She couldn't remember the last time she took a nap in the middle of the day.

Okay, I again apologize for the short chapter, I try to make my chapters at least 1000 words. Don't think this is the big blow up for Lorelai and Rory. This is just a teaser.
