Fair warning: This is a long chapter. I tried to find a splitting place, maybe even a cliffhanger, but nothing seemed to fit, so here goes. Review please.
Chapter 31
When they arrived, they met Lorelai, Luke and Emily in the parking lot. Luke and Lorilai picked Emily up from the airport. After greeting everyone, they proceeded to the lobby. There they met up with Honor, Josh, Chris, Jennifer, Gigi and Matthew. While they were greeting and talking the lights began to dim, telling them it was time to take their seats.
"Do we have reserved seats?" Lorelai asked.
"I sent the boys down with my parents to save us some seats," Josh told them.
"Well, let's get going," Emily said, taking Luke's arm as he led her down the aisle to their seats.
They sat waiting for the program to start. Lorelia was looking at the program. "Psst Rory." Lorelai said. She was pointing to Tori's name. "She is in the last act." She said,
Rory nodded. She took the program from Lorelai and showed her where Tori was also in Act 2, 4 and 5. Lorelai nodded. "Relax, Lorelai. Just enjoy it." Luke told her.
Right after the dance teacher began the show, but before the 1st act, Shira showed up. She was being escorted by a man half her age. When Logan saw her, he just put his head down. "What's wrong?" Rory asked as she looked up. She made eye contact with Shira. Rory's heart started beating fast. She was nervous. She had hoped the Shira would forget. Guess not.
Leave it to Emily. "Shira!" Emily said, looking her boy toy up and down. "What in the world?" this brought attention to Shira and her 'friend'
"Grandma." Rory said. "Sssh"
"Well do you see what she is with. Logan, your mother has always been an odd duck." Emily said.
This cracked Logan up, then Joshua and Mitchell started snickering. Honor was giving all three the 'look'. That all went to hell in a handbasket when Josh turned around from talking with Chris and his dad, and saw his mother-in-law with a guy younger than Logan. Josh said. "Honor, your mother is here."
In the meantime, Shira chose to ignore the comments and she and her friend took the seats next to Logan. This didn't make him too happy, but it caused Rory and Lorelai to giggle. Emily and Honor both just shook their heads.
Everyone calmed down when the 1st Act started. They enjoyed the show. Logan was so proud of Tori and Harper. At one point, he had tears in his eyes. When the show was over, everyone was encouraged to return to the lobby, with only one parent backstage to retrieve their child.
"I'll go get both the girls, that way you and Honor can get home to make sure everything is ready for the party. You know Colin and Finn are already there." Logan said as he started toward the back of the auditorium.
"Whoa, there" Rory said. "If it is okay with Harper's parents, I think it would be a wonderful idea for you to go get the girls, but we will meet you in the lobby."
"I agree," Honor said. Logan marched to the girls while Honor and Rory were trying to stifle a laugh.
"There is chaos backstage after one of these" Anitia, Josh's mother said.
"And the mothers back there will eat him alive." Honor said. Rory nodded.
"He thought he was going to get out of being in public with Shira and her boy toy." Rory said.
Honor nodded.
Josh waited on Logan and the girls, while everyone else headed back to the Gilmore Manor. Being reminded Finn and Colin were already there made the girls decide to go ahead.
When he got back to the Manor with the girls, there was a crowd waiting on them. The girls took their bows, thanked everyone for attending, then headed downstairs to the basement where Joshua and Mitchell were hanging out. Rory had the party planners set food out in the basement playroom for the kids.
"Starting sub-parties early." Finn said.
"Nah," Colin said. "We were about that age when we started."
"Please tell me the liquor cabinet is locked." Finn said.
"First, there is no liquor cabinet in the playroom." Logan said as he headed to the kitchen. Chris was at the drink cart taking orders.
"Logan, " Lorelai said. "I guess you have moved in?" Logan was getting another bottle of wine out of the wine cooler per Rory's request.
"Well, I wouldn't say I have moved completely in, but pretty much." He said. He didn't want to cause anymore problems for Rory, but he wasn't going to lie.
He walked past her with the two chilled wine bottles. Lorelai didn't like it when he didn't engage. She wanted a fight. She wanted him to show his butt, look like a fool. She followed him out.
When they returned to the living room, you could hear the whispering going on. Logan looked to Rory to see why.
Colin and Finn were snickering and pointing like two year olds at Shira and her 'friend'. "Do you think he is an escort? Paid pro-fes-sion-al" Finn said, pronouncing it slowly.
Shira and her friend Cody talking with Anita and Joshua Bradshaw, Honor's in-laws, who were looking very uncomfortable. They were on the patio.
"Boys," Rory said as she walked over to them. "Let's not make fun of things we don't understand."
This caused them to laugh again. "Well," Colin said. "This beat the Friday night that will never end."
"What do you mean," Logan asked. "And where is my mother?" Both Colin and Finn side stepped Rory and left the room.
"All's okay." Rory said, stepping up to kiss him. "I'll tell you about it later." She kissed him again and walked back toward her dad and Luke. Lorelai was sitting in one of Rory's sofa chairs, just watching.
After everyone enjoyed the snacks, Logan went to the basement to get the girls. It was time to open presents.
Both girls were excited. "You would think they never get gifts," Honor said.
"I know, Graduation is next month, thenTori's birthday in June, and Harper's in September." Rory said.
Everyone gathered around to watch them open their gifts.
They had opened all the presence when Logan spoke up. "Harper, Tori, I have a gift for you. This is a gift for the two of you to share." Logan said. He handed them an envelope.
"Why would they share a gift?" Shira said. Honor cut her eyes back to her.
Logan decided to ignore the questions. The girls were giggling and holding the envelope, Honor and Rory sat down beside them to read the card.
To: Tori & Harper
On this special occasion
The end of you dance season
I, Logan, promise you the following:
To redecorate your room at house on Martha's vineyard.
I am so proud of the both of you.
Love Logan
Both girls were squealing. Tori had not seen the room, but Harper had told her all about it. Logan was smiling from ear to ear. He enjoyed making them happy.
"So, next week, the two of you can get on the laptop and start picking out patterns and fabric." Honor said.
"What?" Shira yelled.
Lorelai turned to look at her. "My thoughts exactly" she mumbled.
"Mom," Honor said.
"No," Shira said. "Why would he allow her to decorate Harper's room? That is ridiculous why would you…" by this time, Logan had gotten up and was removing Shira from the room.
Meanwhile: Rory and Honor were trying to distract the girls. "Joshua, Mitchell, help Harper get her gifts to the car." Honor told her sons.
"I'll help you." Rory told Tori to gather up her bubbles, shampoo, slime and stickers. This group really knows what these girls like.
As they were moving upstairs, Rory could hear Lorelai talking. This was not going to be good. Maybe Logan should have waited until after everyone left.
"Momma, why was Harper's grandma yelling?" Tori asked her mom.
"Sometimes adults don't agree on things" She told her.
"She didn't agree me and Harper should decorate our room?" Tori asked.
"Baby, I really don't know how to explain it to you. Harper's grandma is Logan's mom too." Rory tried to explain. Oh course by the time they got to Tori's room, Tori had moved on to another subject.
While Rory and Tori were upstairs, Logan pulled Shira into the kitchen. "Mom, you need to stop. I am with Rory now. That means I am going to be around Tori." Logan told her. "You need to get used to it."
"What about her father?" She asked. "What does he have to say about you being around his daughter?
Logan sighed. "Her father has been MIA since he got Rory pregnant."
"Oh, so the rumor that she went to a fertility clinic is not true." Shira said.
"Mother, I am not discussing rumors with you." Logan said. "But I am telling you now. You will play nice with Rory and with Tori,"
"Or what, Logan?" Shira said. "You will take my allowance away?"
"Maybe," He said. "Just don't make me show you. Just take my word."
Rory and Tori came back downstairs about the same time Logan returned from the kitchen.
"Daddy Logan," Tori said when she saw him, "Can we go to the yard before we go on vacation. I want to see our room before I redecorate."
"Daddy Logan!" Shira and Lorelai sketched at the same time. Chris moved toward Lorelai to try to calm her down, as did Luke. Gigi and Matthew grabbed the girls to take them downstairs to play. Mitchell and Joshua joined them. They were giving the adults time to yell it out without little ears.
"Okay," Logan said. "I need everyone to sit down."
"Who made you boss? This is not your house." Lorelai said.
"No, but it is mine." Rory said. "Have a seat." she stared at Lorelia until she sat down.
She then went to stand by Logan and he took her hand. "I know you all have your opinions on my relationship with Logan." she said.
"And my relationship with Rory and Tori." Logan said.
Logan and Rory stared at each other, then Rory spoke. "Logan will be moving in here officially this summer. I am not looking for anyone's approval. I am just stating facts."
"Everyone of you is important to us," Logan said. "We would love for you to be a part of our lives, the lives that we are going to have together."
"But, if you chose to not be in our lives, we will miss you, but we will survive." Rory said. Logan nodded.
"And if your opinions continue to interfere, then you have made your choice." Logan said. Rory nodded.
When no one spoke, clapped her hands, "It's getting late, and I am sure Grandma is ready for bed, so let's break this party up." Rory said.
You could hear mumbling amongst themselves. Emily walked to the two of them, she kissed them both on the cheek, "I would like to see a marriage before I die, but, that is the last time you will hear from me on the subject. I love the three of you."
"Rory," Lorelai said as she approached her. "I thought Tori was coming home with me tonight."
"I don't have a problem with that, but you will promise me now," Rory said. "You will not question her or say anything negative about Logan or our situation."
Lorelai nodded, and turned to go get Tori from downstairs.
"Rory, Logan," Luke said. "I will do all I can to keep her under control."
Logan nodded, as did Rory, "Just remind her everything she has to lose." Rory said.
Slowly everyone left. Rory and Logan stood at the door as the last of their guests left. Rory went to the kitchen to start the dishwasher, Logan picked up the living and dining room. They checked all the doors before retiring to the bedroom.
