Chapter 32
Time moved along at a decent pace. Rory and Logan would both like to believe there had been no other incident after the dance recital party, but that would be a lie. Shira and Lorelai both had more to say, just not to Logan nor Rory.
It was time for Harper and Tori's graduation from 4-K. The program was small. It was held in their classroom, only allowing two family members to attend.
Rory was packing for their trip to Nantucket while Tori was with Harper at Honor and Josh's. The first few days it would be Rory and Tori, along with Emily at her compound on Nantucket. Lorelia and Luke will arrive Thursday. Maybe even April. Logan will be driving to Nantucket Saturday, then he, Tori and Rory will be flying to the Vineyard, then flying back Monday night. Luke and Lorelai will be leaving Tuesday morning. Rory, Tori and Logan would be driving out on the last ferry Sunday night. Logan has a business meeting in Boston Monday morning. The three of them were going to spend the night in Boston.
Rory had discussed the schedule with Emily, but she had not said anything to Lorelai. Matter of fact, she and Lorelai didn't talk as much since the dance recital party.
Rory could hear her cellphone ringing in her bedroom. She hurried from Tori's room to answer the phone. "Hello" Rory said, answering without looking at the caller id.
"Fruit Loin." Lorelai said as soon as Rory answered the phone. Rory rolled her eyes. She knows asking her mom not to say that was futile.
"Mom" Rory asked. "How are you today?"
"Oh, you know, Michel is grumpy, Sookie fell again, just the same ole stuff." She said,
"Is Sookie okay?" Rory asked. Sookie is acident pron, most of the time it is minor injury, but not always.
"Yes," Lorelai said. "She is fine."
"Good, I would hate for you to cancel your trip." Rory said.
"Nope, no cancel trip." She said, "What time is Tori's graduation tomorrow?" Lorelai asked.
"Mom, I told you last week. It's 10:30." Rory told her.
"Okay, do you want me to come by and pick you up?" Lorelai asked.
Rory closed her eyes. They had already had this discussion. "Mom, Tori and I are leaving right after the program. We are having lunch with Logan, then he is taking us to the airport."
"Okay, Well I will just meet you there." Lorelai said.
"Mom, we talked about this a couple of weeks ago. Only two people are allowed, the classroom is small." Rory told her.
"I'm not one of the two people?" Lorelia asked. "Rory, come on. What's going on? Surely you are not going to let Logan go? He is not even family."
"Mom. Logan is a part of our lives now. He will be going with me to stuff like this." Rory told her.
"So, are you introducing him as her father?" Lorelia asked sarcastically.
Rory didn't answer right away. They talked about him adopting her when they married. They decided they wanted to get married. They just have not decided when, nor have they told many people. "Mom, we are not introducing him as her father, but would it be so bad?" She asked.
"Yes, If you are going to lie to people." Lorelai said.
"Mom, I really need to go, Tori is with Harper and I still have a lot of packing to do." Rory said and ended the call before Lorelai could respond.
She just sat on the edge of the bed. She needs to tell her parents, Luke, Emily and a few others that don't know, that he is her father, but she was not ready for the fall out. She didn't know how long she had sat there thinking, until the doorbell rang. She looked at the clock. It had gotten late and she still needed to pack for herself, but that would have to wait. Tory was home.
Friday morning, Tori was excited. She was excited to be graduating from the baby school as she and Harper called it. She was excited because she was going on an airplane to see her grandma Emily. Logan had to threaten to take her tablet away if she didn't sit down and eat.
"Logan," Rory said as she came down the stairs putting her earrings in. "Do you want to put our luggage in the car now, or will we have time to stop by here to get it?"
"Whichever you want." He said. "We should have time, but if you are worried, I can load everything now."
"I think that would be best." She said, "Tori, do you have everything packed? You didn't unpack anything I had already packed, did you?"
"No, Ma'am," She told her.
Rory hurried her upstairs to finish getting ready. The program starts at 10:30, but Tori had to be there at 9:45. Logan and Rory were going to get coffee while they waited.
After the program, Rory talked with Tori's teachers. Each telling what a pleasure it had been to have Tori in their class.
Tori and Harper were talking with some of their friends, when one of the mothers came up to them. "Tori," She said. "Who is that with your mom today?"
Tori turned to look to see who she was talking to, "That's Daddy Logan." She told her.
"That's my uncle." Harper said.
Before anyone else could say anything, Honor, who had heard it all, moved the girls along.
Logan pulled up to the drop off zone. He found Rory a trolley and helped her load their bags.
"Tori," Logan said. "Do you want to ride the trolley or walk with your mom?"
"I'll ride." She said, She couldn't remember flying before. She was too small. She was excited, but the crowds were a bit much.
Logan lifted her up, sitting her on the trolley with the luggage. "You be good for mommy. The wait to board the airplane will be longer than the flight." She looked at him confused. "The wait to get on the plane will be longer than the ride over to the island." She nodded and smiled at him. She understood.
He kissed them both, telling them he loved them, then watched as Rory pushed the trolley to check in before he left.
They ate a grilled cheese sandwich while they waited to board.
When they boarded the plane, Tori wanted to be held, but Rory told her to walk. They both had a backpack. When they got settled, Rory allowed Tori to have a window seat. Flying did not scare Rory. She had been flying most of her adult life, but these puddle jumpers scared her just a tad. The key was not to let Tori know that.
She was so excited. She kept pointing out the window at the things she saw. "Momma," Tori said. "I can see stuff like when we went on Daddy Logan's helicopter."
"Yes," Rory said. "I see" she was thinking she trusted Daddy Logan's helicopter more than she trusted this plane. Turbulence this trip was insane. It didn't seem to bother Tori.
Rory was glad when they landed. Tori was a good traveling companion. She was just curious. Maybe next time Logan offers his jet, she will agree.
