Chapter 38
When they landed, Logan had a car waiting for them. He rented an SUV for their stay. Tori was excited. When they got to the house, Rory observed it hadn't changed a lot since she was last here. She made Tori wait for them to unload the car before she could go in the house.
"No," Logan said. "I will come back for the luggage. Let me show you around." He opened the door and stepped back to let his girls in. He had called ahead to have the place aired out. "Ace, what do you think? Changed much since you were here last?"
"Momma, you have been here before? Where was I at?" she asked.
"Oh, sweetpea, It was before you were born." Rory told her.
"Come on," Logan said. "Let me show you the upstairs first, then I need to get the luggage out. There is a cloud forming. Looks like we may be going to get some rain."
"Rain. No!" Tori said. "I want to swim in the pool."
"We will be here long enough for you to swim." Rory told her.
Logan showed them upstairs, stopping to show Tori the room that she and Harper would be sharing. Then the room he and Rory would be sharing. They all went downstairs to get the luggage out of the car.
"The fridge should be stocked. I gave them a list for when they aired out the house." Logan said.
"I go look." Rory said. She opened the refrigerator. "Sandwiches okay with you two?" Rory asked. When she didn't get an answer, she pulled back the drapes on the doors to the deck. She could see Logan showing Tori the gate that leads to the beach. He was giving her a tour. Rory smiled. She always wanted him to come back, she was just afraid to hope.
She opened the door and stepped outside. "Hey, I asked, will sandwiches be okay for lunch?" she asked.
"Sure, that is fine with me. What about you, half pint?" he asked Tori.
"Half pint?" she asked, looking at him like he was crazy.
"Yes, Half pint. That will be my nickname for you. I call your mom Ace, so I will call you half pint." Logan said.
"But Tori is my nickname. Grandma calls me Victoria because that is my real name." Tori told him.
"I need a nickname that is just mine. Can I call you half pint?" he asked. She shrugged her shoulders.
They enjoyed their lunch sitting in the kitchen watching it rain. Logan looked at the forecast, it didn't look like it was going to let up anytime soon, so they decided to take a nap. Tori took her tablet to her room, with instructions not to leave the upstairs without an adult.
The rain stopped before sunset. The three of them took a long walk on the beach. Tori and Logan picked up shells. They planned to have an arts and crafts day. Logan got a call while they walked. He stepped away to take the call.
"Momma," Tori said. "When did you and Daddy Logan come here before?"
"It was when we were in college. Why baby?" Rory asked.
"I seen a picture of Daddy Logan and a lady. I don't know who she is." Tori told her.
"Well," Rory said. She tried to answer her question, but she wasn't sure how much she would understand. "I'm sure Daddy Logan knows a lot of ladies." Tori stopped to put a seashell in the bucket Rory was holding. She turned to look at Logan. She watched him as he talked on the phone. Rory smiled when she saw her daughter watching Logan. They stand the same way. They even gesture with their hands the same. Rory wonders if Tori is old enough to notice it.
Rory woke around 10 Sunday Morning. Logan was no was not in bed. When she grabbed the phone, she realized she overslept. She could hear Logan and Tori in the pool. She grabbed her bathing suit to join them.
They took a break from swimming to eat lunch. Logan finished his sandwich before his girls. "I have a proposal for my girls," He said.
"What is a pro-posal?" Tori asked.
"It's an idea." Rory said. Logan looks at a loss for words. "Go ahead with your proposal." Rory said, looking at Logan. She then turned to Tori. "Your daddy likes to propose." Logan's eyes got big, Rory put her hand over her mouth. She didn't mean to call him her daddy. She was getting used to saying Daddy Logan, she just got too comfortable.
"Um," Logan said. He cleared his throat, coughed to cover his throat closing up with tears. He liked Rory calling him Tori's daddy. "I want you and mommy to take the car and my credit card and go shopping."
"Logan you don't have to do that." Rory said.
"Yes, I do. I have some work to do today. I want my two best girls to go shopping for some fancy clothes." He said. Rory looked at him. Trying to figure out what was going on. "Tomorrow night we are taking the Sunset Dinner Cruise to Nantucket."
"Oh,I read about that." Rory said. "The ferry ride is an hour, but this cruise takes two hours. There is dancing and they have this huge dessert bar."
"Yeah?" Tori said. "Hurry mommy, we need to go shopping. I will get my comfortable shoes. Lele says to always wear comfortable shoes when shopping." She hurried up the stairs to her room.
Rory stood up, pulled Logan's chair out from the table, and sat in his lap. "How long have you been planning this?" She asked.
"Well," Logan said.
Rory interrupted him. "Don't tell me you and Odette used to take the cruise? Oh, by the way, she saw the picture of you and Odette and asked who that was."
"No, Emily told me about it. Apparently she and Gentleman Jack take the cruise a lot," He told her. "What did you tell her about the picture?"
"Just that you knew a lot of ladies." Rory told him. She kissed him solidly on the lips before getting up. "Work dork. Go to work. Your girls are going to spend your money."
