Chapter 40
Logan called a car service to pick them up at the dock in Nantucket. Tori could hardly keep her eyes open. She was so sleepy, but refused to close her eyes. Everything is so new to her. When they got in the car, Rory told her. "Don't go to sleep now. We will be home in 5 minutes." Tori nodded.
When the car stopped in front of the Sand Castle, Logan tried picking Tori up, but she woke up. When they got to the door, she wanted to go tell Lele and Papa Luke about the big boat. Rory didn't know what time they would be leaving in the morning, so she called Lorelai.
"Mom." Rory said. "We just got back, Tori is tired, but she wants to come over to tell you all about the big boat she went on. Are you and Luke still up?...Okay, I'll walk her over, but if you don't mind, walk her back when she gets ready…Thanks" Rory hung the phone.
"I'm going to walk her to Mom's" She told Logan.
"Tell her to call when she is ready to come back, I'll go get her." he told her. She nodded her head.
Tori was talking a mile a minute. Telling Rory about what she was going to tell Lele and Papa Luke. Luke came to the door when Rory knocked.
"Logan said to call when she is ready to come back, he will come get her." Rory told Luke.
"Just let her spend the night." Lorelai said from the living room. This set Tori off.
"Yes, momma, please." Tori begged. Lorelai knew what she was doing. She knew if she mentioned it in front of Tori, Rory wouldn't say no.
"I'll follow you back to get her some night clothes. What she has on doesn't look like something she could sleep in." Luke said.
"Logan will bring her some clothes." Rory said. She could hear Tori telling Lorelai about the boat. Rory lowered her voice. "I prefer you stay close. I don't want Lorelai saying anything negative about Logan. She is still mad. I guess I don't blame her, but I don't want her telling Tori anything."
Luke nodded. He wished he knew what to say to her to assure her Lorelai would come around, but he didn't know what to say.
When Logan got back, Emily was telling her about a dinner cruise that she and Jack went on. "Emily, while we are at the Vineyard in July, you and Gentleman Jack need to come stay with us, especially the 4th. We will be having a big blow out." Logan told Emily. "We have plenty of room."
"Yeah Grandma, Shira will be there. I will surely need your help." Rory told her.
"Well, I will talk with Jack, let you know." Emily said.
"Thanks Grandma," Rory said, hugging her.
"Well, I am going to read in the sunroom. I'll come say goodnight before I retire for the night." She told them.
All too soon, it was time to leave. Emily is flying back with them. She will spend time with Rory in Hartford, then in one of the cottages at the DragonFly. The Heart Association will be holding the Heart Ball in Hartford. Rory and Logan will be attending with her. She will stay until Tori's birthday.
Logan has officially moved in. He even brought Henry, but he is in the pool house. Logan set up an office out there as well as a man cave, with pool tables, poker tables and such. Rory also has a pool table in the basement games/movie room. Just something else for Lorelai to have a snide remark about.
The gang met up at the Gilmore/Huntzburger Manor for drinks before the Ball. The guys were decked out in tuxes and the girls in beautiful red dresses.
Everyone was mingling and talking. No one wanted to sit, they didn't want to mess up their clothes. They were waiting on Luke and Lorelai. Emily insisted they go as a family, representing The Richard Gilmore Family. Emily bought two $5000 tables to be put together. in his name.
Chris and Jennifer, Gigi and Matthew will meet them at the Morgan Executive Suite and Banquet Hall. This is one of Finn's family's hotels. His mother Prisscila Maria di Savoia Morgan is on the Hartford Heart Association.
When Luke and Lorelai arrived everyone was ready to go. "Hey, Hey," Lorelai said as she was being pushed out the door. "What about my drink?"
"If you would learn to arrive on time, you could enjoy a drink with the rest of us." Emily told her. Logan helped Emily into the Limo, before helping Rory. Finn nudged Lorelai, opened his tux jacket just enough for her to be able to see his flask. She gave him a thumbs up.
When they arrived. Luke, Lorelai and Emily went ahead of Logan and Rory, with Christopher, Jennifer, Gigi and Matthew following. The rest of the crew followed next.
A reporter stopped Emily, spoke with her about her part in organizing the ball. Asked who she was wearing. Logan and Rory were right behind them. They were interviewed by two reporters, only giving the name Logan and Rory, but when Emily entered the building, one of Page Six reporters spotted Logan. She started yelling his name at the same time a reporter for The New York Times Magazine spotted Rory. Both their names were being called.
"Mr. Huntzburger, is that Lorelia Gilmore with you?" "Rory, Rory, are you and Logan dating? Is he your college boyfriend.?" "When did you reunite?" "Who are you wearing?"
"Mr. Hayden, is this the Hayden Heir?" "Don't you have an older daughter?" "Miss Hayden, Who is your date tonight? Is he your boyfriend?" "Georgia Hayden, are you still going to Yale?" They stopped and answered the questions they thought needed answering.
This was Gigi's first official adult Ball. Matthew was not poor, by no means, but his last name did not hold the clout the Gilmores, Haydens or Huntburgers held. His family is an old family of architects. His family is the youngest of three brothers. Just not as wealthy as Gigi. Of course, Christopher didn't care, as long as he was not out to get Gigi's money, he didn't care.
When they all made it into the Banquet Hall, the guys made their way to the bar, while the ladies tried to make it to their table without offending anyone by not stopping and talking.
They enjoyed dancing, eating, they even formed their own sub group. They pulled Honor and Josh in from his family's table and Robert and his date from his family.
Rory and Logan were dancing next to Colin and Stephanie, when Honor and Josh danced over. "Logan," Honor said in a whisper. "Did you see our Mother?" Logan jerked his head around to see if he could see her.
"She is in the powder room now, but I see Cody. Isn't that his name?" Honor asked. Logan danced Rory around so he could see him.
He looked at his watch. "I guess it is too early to leave?" He asked.
"Someone has got to stop her from running our name in the ground." Honor said.
"Everyone knows her. They don't associate her with the Huntzburger name now that dad is gone." Logan said wishfully.
"She throws it around a lot." Honor said.
It was a good thing they had a limo to return them to the Gilmore/Huntzburger Manor, because most of them enjoyed themselves.
For those of you that want to skip the description of dresses and shoes the ladies are wearing, I put it at the bottom of the story for those who want to know. BERGDORF GOODMAN. I love looking up what they are wearing.
