I am off work this weekend. I will be attending my 40th High School Reunion. Yes, I am that old. I have several chapters written, just need to proof and post. Hopefully I will be able to get that done before I leave working in the morning. Review. Please.

Chapter 41

They survived the Heart Association Ball with only a few scraps. Honor, Rory and Shira got into it in the powder room. Like I said a few scraps. Before those wounds could heal, they had a family dinner at the DragonFly. The intimate dinner for the Gilmore family turned into a not so intimate extended family.

Somehow, Mitchum's younger brother Ed and older sister Virginia were invited along with their families. Shira was there, minus her boy toy.

When Rory, Logan, and Tori entered the inn for Friday night dinner, they did not expect the crowd.

"Logan," Virginia said. Virginia was a snob. There is no other word for her. "It's about time for me to meet my future niece, don't you think?"

"Aunt Ginny," Logan said. Knowing she hated being called Ginny. "This is Rory, the love of my life, and this is her daughter Victoria, but she prefers Tori." Logan was proud of his family. He had no reason to be nervous. It was just a habit.

Virginia saw Shair approaching, knowing how she feels about Logan's new family. "Well Logan, you have a fine looking family. Rory, it is so nice to meet you. Your grandfather spoke very highly of you as did your grandmother Francine. I look forward to getting to know you. And Miss Gilmore, you are precious," She bent to Tori's size.

"Virginia" Shari said as she walked up to them. "Logan," She kissed him on the cheek. "Rory, it is so good to see you. Virginia I am glad you were able to find this quaint little inn. Rory, your mother has done a wonderful job with this inn."

Rory just stood there. At first she thought maybe she was dreaming, no, she wasn't dreaming. "If you will excuse us, Tori and I are going to find the powder room" Rory took Tori's hand and walked off.

They walked into the kitchen. "Mom?" Rory said. "What is going on? Why are all these people here?"

"I'm not sure," Lorelia said.

"I got a call yesterday morning," Shooki started. "Telling me the Friday night dinner was going to double in size."

"Who called you Shooki?" Rory asked. Tori took a seat at the bar. She was eating a cookie.

"I don't know. It was a female." Shooki said. "I'm sorry." Rory nodded.

She found Logan talking with his Aunt Ginny and some other girl, who looked to be about Honor's age. "Babe," Rory whispered in his ear. "What is going on?"

He took her hand, "Aunt Ginny, Tabitha, oh I'm sorry Tabitha this is Rory." Logan said. "We are going to mingle awhile, but how about you come to the office in Hartford monday. We will talk about it then," His aunt nodded her head.

"No sure who invited my family, but I know that Aunt Ginny wants to talk to me about Shira and the house." Logan said.

"What about the house?" Rory asked.

"The house has been in the Huntzburger family for centuries. Now that Dad is gone, they don't think Shira should be living there."

Rory's eyes got big. "Surely they don't expect us to live there." She then put her hand over her mouth. She just indicated she and Logan would be getting married. They have talked about it, but not spoken of it outside of their bedroom. She looked around to see if anyone was listening.

"Rory," Emily said, walking up to them.

"Grandma, do you know anything about Logan's family being here?" Rory asked.

"Virginia and I have been friends forever. She and I have talked and visited more since I moved to Nantucket. Boston is just a helicopter hop away. She visits often." Emily said.

"So you invited them to come to Friday night dinner?" Rory asked.

"Well she told me she needed to talk with Logan, I just suggested they come stay at the inn for the weekend." Emily said.

"She wants Shira out of the Manor." Logan said.

"Well Logan, it has always been occupied by a Huntzburger." Emily said. "No, before you say anything. Shira is not a Huntzburger."

"Who owns the Manor? HPG?" Rory asked

"The Huntzburger Heir" Logan said with a smirk

Emily smiled, looked around to make sure no one could hear. "That would be one Victoria Hayden Gilmore." and walked off.

"Technically, she is not the heir." Logan said to Rory.

"I told you we can change that, all we have to do is put your name on her birth certificate, but I don't want you to do it so she will be the heir." Rory told him.

"I want to wait until I adopt her." Logan said.

Emily walked back over. "What are you going to do Logan? Virginia is making comments about Shira being kicked out. She seems a bit glad." Emily said.

Logan just sighed. Rory spoke up. "Well the logical thing to do would be for Logan to move in, but he just moved into our house. I don't want to move. I have a home I love. It is big enough for us and more. Besides, I refuse to live in the same house as Shira or any other woman. I am the woman of the house, regardless of which house."Rory said.

"More." Emily said with a smile. "Will they be more?"

Rory rolled her eyes, Logan was paying close attention. "More? I don't know, but for now, we have room for friends to stay over." Rory said. That is the first time she has said anything about the possibility of another kid. Logan was grinning. He had to get that ring on her finger. He excused himself from the group. He needed to talk with Honor. He had an idea.

"Don't worry about it. I will talk with Aunt Ginny. I have an idea I think will make everyone happy." Logan said.

They turned around when they heard a bell ringing. "Tonight will be buffet style. Enjoy." Shooki told them.

The meal was chaotic. Logan and Rory found them a spot next to Gigi and Matthew.

"So," Gigi started. "Sounds like that lady wants Shira kicked out of her house."

"That is just crazy. When my grandpa died, my family moved in with my grandma." Matthew said. "It was an adjustment. I was 14, so maybe I didn't see the problems, but I know I enjoyed having a maid and a cook." He was laughing.

"Your grandma still fusses about your momma working," Gigi said.

"Yeah, that has always been Shira's chief complaint. I work." Rory said.

"Yeah, but I admire you. You found a way to work and raise Tori with little help from a nanny." Logan said.

Rory just shrugged her shoulders.

While dessert was being served, Logan's Uncle Ed's son Edwin, suggested games. Lorelia showed them the games.

While the games were being set up, Rory went to the library. She was looking over the book collection. Rory donated some of Richard's library to the DragonFly. She stopped in the corner when she heard someone mention her name.

"Well, I don't know how Rory did it, but she finally got what she wanted. Virginia has always been jealous that Mitchum was made the heir instead of her. Now she wants me out of my house. She wants that girl and her child in my house. Over my dead body."

Rory couldn't see who Shira was talking to. She moved a little closer when she saw Virginia walking toward Shira.

"I told my brother it was a mistake to marry you. I begged him to just take the baby from you and I would raise her. No, he was stubborn. He wanted to grow up and face the consequences of his mistakes." Shira ended the call she was on. "I wanted to tell you this at his funeral. You are the reason he is dead. He couldn't stand to be in the same house as you, even one as big the Huntzburger Manor, so he goes out during this pandemic." Vigina started this rant mad, but now she had tears in her eyes. Mitchum was her brother. They spent many nights when they were younger talking about the families they would have. As they got older, Mitchum began to rely on advice from her with Logan and Honor.

"Listen hear you Bitch" Shira said barely above a whisper. "I have put up with you all these years because you were Mitchum's sister, but he is dead. You are nobody to me."

Rory thought this might be a good time to stop this before it gets out of hand. She stepped around the corner. "Ladies," Rory said. "I hope you are enjoying your stay. Aunt Ginny, did mom put you in a suite or the family cottage. I know with Renea and the baby it would be easier in the cottage, but then again maybe you need a break and want to stay by yourself." Virginia was smiling when Rory walked around the corner. She was glad Logan finally got his act together. He is a good businessman, better than Mithcum, but he needs balance. He needs love in his life. He seems happy.

"Yes, the cottage is great. Renea insisted she didn't need the nanny to come with us. So I get to be grandma all weekend" Virginia said.

"You, I guess you finally got what you wanted. They are determined to kick me out of my house so you can move in with that …" Shira said.

"You better be real careful as the next work to come out of your mouth Mother." Logan said as he walked up. He had been talking to Honor, planning his proposal when he saw the three women. He could see trouble brewing.

"Logan, I was not going to be curd, but that word describes her. She was not born into a family of a married mother and father." Shira said.

"Neither was I." Rory said.

"See, You made my point." Shira said. "You are not fit to be a Huntzburger wife."

"I am not having this conversation with you, Mother." Logan said. "Aunt Ginny, she is capable of making a fool out of herself without your help. I told you to come by my office on Monday and we will discuss this." Logan said. He took Rory's hand, turning to leave when Shira spoke up.

" 's the word and if you don't watch out, she will trick you into having one too." Shira said.

Logan let go of Rory's hand, turned to Shira and said. "Get out, you drunk wanna be. I am tired of making up excuses as to why you are the way you are." Logan said. He grabbed her elbow to lead her out the door, she turned on him and slapped him across the face.

The scene had caused several of the guests to watch, but when she slapped him the whole room went silent.
