My two days off start tomorrow, so I will not be back until the weekend. Help a girl out. Give me some idea of where to take this story. I have chapter 46 written.
Chapter 45
Tori's party was in full swing by the time Lorelai, Luke, April and Emily got there. There were about 10 four to five year olds in the pool. Finn and Matthew were in the pool entertaining. Logan, Chris and Colin were working the grill.
Rory, Gigi and the ladies were in the shade drinking iced lemonade. This was what a summer party should be like.
"Rory, let me and Steph plan you and Logan an engagement party." Honor said.
"I want to help," Gigi said.
"Okay," Honor said. This could work out great. "We could have it at the house on the Vineyard," Honor was acting like she just thought of the idea.
"Yeah," Steph said. "We need to start an invitation list."
"Guys, that sounds good and all, but it would have to be close to the end of July. It is too soon. Not enough time to get the invitations out." Rory said. "Even then it is cutting it close."
"Get with the program Rory," Gigi said. "This is the twenty-first century. We will send EVites."
"Oh, lawd." Rory said, fanning herself "Emily will never go for that, and Francin will rollover in her grave.
"We will come up with something." Honor said. She pulled her phone out to look at the calendar. "The 9th or the 16th." Honor asked.
"You need to talk to Logan. I don't know what he has planned." Rory said. Honor just held her stare. "Okay, if I had to choose, the 16th." Rory said, she started giggling. She was getting excited.
"What are we doing on the 16th?" Lorelai asked.
"Mom, Grandma." Rory said, jumping up. "Here Grandma, take my seat. I'll get a couple more chairs." She walked off toward the pool house. Lorelai followed. They walked into the pool house.
"Emily." Honor said. "I am going to tell you something, but you can not react. I will explain why. Can you do that.?"
"Yes," Emily said. "What is it?"
"Logan proposed to Rory Thursday night." Gigi said. Emily gasped.
"I am planning an engagement party, or that is what Rory thinks, really it is the wedding." Honor said. This got the attention of Gigi. She didn't realize what was happening.
"Rory and Logan don't know?" Gigi asked.
Logan does, Rory doesn't. That is why I need all of your help." Honor said.
Emily smiled. "I am not pleased with the way I found out. I am her grandmother," They looked at Emily, she broke out in a huge smile. "I'm all in. Tell me what you need me to do." You could even say she was giggling.
Meanwhile: "Rory, what about the 16th. Are we having a party?" Lorelia asked.
Rory was not trying to ignore her, she was just trying to figure out how to break the engagement to her. She grabbed a couple of chairs. When she did, Lorelai saw the ring. "RORY." She yelled about the same time Logan walked in.
"Ace," Logan said. He heard part of the conversation. "Do you need some help with the chairs?"
"We've got this, Logan." Lorelai said. "I need to talk to my daughter."
Logan and Rory exchanged looks. Lorelia just stood there, waiting for him to leave. Rory nodded her head. Logan kissed her, nodded at his further mother in law and left the pool house.
"Go ahead, Mother," Rory said. "I'm waiting." She stood there with her arms crossed.
"Are you pregnant?" She asked.
"No," Rory said rolling her eyes "Why is that always the first question?".
Lorelia nodded. "So he asked you to marry him? Don't you think it is a little too soon. I mean 6 months. It has only been 6 months since he has been back in your life. Are you marrying him so that he can be Tori's dad?" She was on a role, Rory just let her talk.
"I mean, he is Tori's dad. Just make it legal, you don't have to marry him. What about all the reasons for keeping Tori a secret? Have you thought about that? Have you thought about what this will do to Tori? How it will change her life. She will be hounded by the press. Do you want her to grow up looking over her shoulder? To read about all the things Logan did in his youth?" She stopped to take a breath.
Rory started to speak, but Lorelai started again. "I know you are not marrying for his money. You are set, with your trust and the money from your books, I mean who needs a man? Rory. I just think you need to think about it. You will be pushed back into that world. You hated it, do you really want to be a part of it again?"
Before she could go on, Rory put her hand up to stop her. "Enough. Let me answer a few of your questions. 6 months is not a long time, but if you really look at it, it has been 15 years in the making, that doesn't count the time we dated in college. As far as Tori is concerned, do you think so little of me that I would put my happiness above her safety? Yes, being a Huntzburger will be a change for both of us, well even for Logan, but we will address this with her. I am beginning to think you don't think I am capable of raising Tori. What do you think I have been doing for the last 5 years?"
"Huntzburger?" Lorelai said. "You are changing her name to Huntzburger?"
Rory sighed. "Mother, I will not argue with you about this. Either get on board or stay on shore, just decide which one so I will know how much to include you in." She turned and walked out of the pool house, leaving Lorelia standing with her mouth open. She almost knocked Logan down when she came out of the pool house. He had not moved too far away. He heard everything. As did several others.
