Chapter 49
When they arrived on the island, Tori was ready to get to the house. She was being so impatient, she had to go sit in the lobby with Rory instead of going with Logan to get the rental car. They were finally pulling up to the house.
"Tori," Rory said. "Help unload the car, then you have to unpack before you can go swimming."
"Yes ma'am." Tori said as she turned around to help with her luggage. It didn't take them long. Rory was still trying to get organized, but Logan and Tori were in the pool already. It wasn't long before she joined them.
Housekeeping left the list of groceries Rory asked for. Rory and Logan sat down and made a list of grocery items they would need for the 4th. They were expecting a large number of people with different eating habits.
Thursday morning after Logan's run on the beach, he settled down in his office to work. He could hear Tori and Rory upstairs.
"Logan," Rory said standing at the office door. "Tori and I will be in the pool. I ordered the groceries. Will you listen out for them? Just holler for me and I will put them up."
"Sure Ace." He said looking up from his computer.
It was almost lunch time when the groceries arrived. Rory was fixing them all sandwiches when the doorbell rang.
"I'll get it Ace." Logan said as he came out of his office. He was dressed in shorts and a tee. She liked seeing him casual.
Logan and two delivery boys made several trips to the truck unloading the groceries. Tori was sitting on the bar stool watching while she ate her sandwich and chips.
"You are a cutie," One of the guys said. "How old are you?"
"I'm 5." Tori said, holding up 5 fingers.
"My sister is a kids counselor at the club. They have day camps all summer. You should come." He said.
He looked to be about 15 or 16. "Her cousin will be here after the 4th. I have already signed them up for several different camps." Rory told him.
Rory finished putting up the groceries, while Logan went back to his office. He told her he only had about 30 more minutes and he would be finished for the day.
They planned to go explore the island. See what kind of activities are available.
Friday morning Logan went for his run. When he returned, Tory was waiting on him. She wanted to go swimming with him before he went to work. Rory was sitting on the deck, working on some edits.
In the afternoon Rory and Tori had quiet time while Logan finished up on some work. After quiet time, the three of them would spend time together, walking the beach, exploring the town, playing putt-putt, or riding go-carts. Just enjoying their vacation time.
This worked for Saturday too. After nap time, the three of them went shopping. On Sunday they were invaded. Honor and her family arrive around lunch time. They brought Shira. Colin, Steph, Finn and Rosemary arrived an hour before Lorelia, Luke, Chris, Jenn, Gigi, Matthew and Emily.
After Logan's run, Sunday morning, he spent most of his time between the house and the airport. By supper time, the kids, big and small were in the pool, the adults sitting around the pool telling tales. They ordered pizza. Emily and Shira took a car service to the club to visit with friends.
Everyone was gearing up for the 4th.
Logan and Rory were up early Monday morning. Honor and Josh not too far behind them. Josh and Logan were wiping down the deck tables and chairs while Rory and Honor were cutting up fruit, making smoothies, plating pastries that were delivered earlier.
When Finn and Colin got down stairs, they started pouring the water off the juice, sodas, wine coolers and beer. Before bed last night they iced everything down.
Chris was standing on the deck, drinking his coffee and watching all the activities, when Emily emerged from the pool house.
"Good morning Christopher." She said,
"Morning Emily." He replied, before she entered the house.
Chris turned when he heard the sliding glass doors open. Luke was coming through with two watermelons. "Got two more in the car." He told Chris nodded and headed to the car. Luke was wiping the watermelons off when Chris returned. He threw them in the pool to cool off.
It was total chaos when Shira emerged from the pool house. When she walked out the door, she had no idea what was going on. She could see kids in the pool and on the beach. She was looking for Logan when she saw a teenage boy toss Harper to Joshua in the pool. She didn't know half of these people. Who was this? She glanced on the deck and saw Emily with a beach hat on, sitting on the deck talking with what looked like her daughter. Oh well.
She approached Emily. Emily as well as the rest of the crew were dressed in beach wear. Some in suits, some in suits and wraps, all prepared to enjoy the water. "Emily," Shira said. "Hope you slept well."
"Yes, Yes, I did." Emily said. Looking Shira up and down. What is she wearing? She was dressed like she was going to the Club. Emily thought. "And you?"
"Well, yes, the ocean noise keeps me awake but I managed. I didn't realize how much louder it was in the pool house compared to the main house." She told her.
Emily humed. "Have you met my daughter Lorelai Danes?" Emily asked.
"It's good to see you again. It has been quite a few years." Shira said without looking at her. She was watching everything around her.
Mitchell came up from the beach, jumping into the pool, causing the younger girls to squeal. This of course splashed on Shira. She screamed, catching the attention of everyone. "Joseph Mitchell Bradshaw" Mitchell was just coming up from under the water. He was smiling; he didn't know he had done anything wrong.
"Mother," Honor said. She came running from the side of the deck. Josh came in from the beach. He wasn't sure what his son had done.
"Honor," Shira said. "I have never seen such reckless behavior coming from your children. This is unacceptable."
Logan wasn't too far behind Josh coming from the beach. When he got on the deck and could see what was going on, he started laughing. Shira spun around to see who was laughing. By the time she spotted Logan, Josh had started laughing. Jenn pinched Chris under the table to stop him from laughing.
Everyone waited. No one knew who would speak first. But what surprised everyone was Emily. She stood up. Looked Shira right in the eye. "Shira, if you are going to dress like that on a deck full of children and adults enjoying water, you should expect to get splashed." Emily shook her head. "I have seen a lot in my lifetime, but I don't think I have ever run across someone…..of your calibur before." She pulled off her wrap, walked to the steps of the pool and walked in.

Someone suggested that there were too many people in one house. Hadn't really thought about it, but I agree. I think I will have Chris buy the house next door. Could that bring drama?
