The author snaps his fingers as the screen flickers before the chapter begins.
The Boy in the Black Cloak
In the hustle and bustle of Academy City, just outside of Sakugawa Middle School a scream of pure embarrassment rang out.
A scream that the passing students were more or less used too by now.
"Light blue stripes, didn't you wear these the other day?" Staten said blandly with a smile on her face, as a Uiharu flattened her skirt.
"Saten why would do that!" Uiharu cried out in embarrassment.
"Just wanted to see if you remembered to wear your panties today." Saten teased her best friend.
"But I do!" Uiharu cried out.
"There she goes again..." A male student sighed out, his friend nodding in response as they and other students walked past the girls.
After a few minutes Uiharu had calmed down a bit on a nearby park bench. Her face returned to it's normal complexion while Saten was on her phone, browsing through the forums.
She was looking through them for any updates when here eyes lit up in excitement.
"Uiharu take a look at this." Saten said, handing the cellphone to her friend.
The girl with a flower headband took a look to see a picture of one of the many rooftop windmills in Academy City.
At it's base was a picture of some kind of black, flame like object and if Uriharu looked close enough she could the silhouette of someone in black clothing walking through the object.
The title of the article read 'The return of the Boy in the Black Cloak?'
"Another urban legend Saten?" Uiharu said as she handed her the phone back.
"Exactly, and one I have been waiting a while to hear an update from. 10 months ago there were multiple sightings of a boy in a black, hooded cloak constantly exiting and entering through a black flame like portal. Sometimes it was reported that he would save people from being jumped or attacked and that is where things really get interesting." Saten said with a grin.
"And why is that?" Uiharu asked.
"It's because no one can figure out what kind of Esper he truly is. Some say he can create fireballs, some say he can create shards of ice, and there is even an account of him using pillars of light. But there is one thing every account has him doing. It is that he uses a giant key as a sword!" Saten said, getting Uiharu to look at her incredulously.
"A giant key, Saten you know that such a thing can't be true." Uiharu sighed out.
"I know, but the fact that the sightings stopped just as they appeared have left so many questions on what he truly was. There had been no sightings of him that the rumor was effectively dead until now." Saten said with a smile, before it dropped once she saw the time. "Time to go Uiharu."
"Alright, just let me tell Shirai and Misaka that we will meet them at Crepe RABLM." Uriharu said happily, getting Saten to smile.
It had been were she had met Misaka and Kuroko. The four of them had agreed to meet there the other day when they had time.
So with the new sighting of the Boy in the Black Cloak, hanging with her friends, and finally getting rid of marker off of her face after a week Saten was confident that today was going to be a good day.
And her excitement only grew when she saw a new update to the forums.
"Ready Uiharu?" Saten asked with a grin, getting her friend to nod as the two of them walked their way towards the crepe stand. With Saten keeping her eyes open the whole way there.
For the Boy in the Black Cloak had just been sighted entering an alleyway on 7th street, several kilometers down street from Crepe RABLM.
At Crepe RABLM a tall, muscular teen with black hair and blue eyes observed the surrounding area he leaned against a wall.
The security around the area had increased after a failed attempt of robbing a bank had occured.
He was keeping a stoic facade as he memorized every detail of the area, no matter how minute. The teen had already done so for the past week, but it couldn't hurt incase he had to use his ability earlier then they had planned.
"Crepe?" A voice asked, getting the tall teen to face a lanky teen with brown hair and green eyes who wore different school uniform. In his hands where two crepes and a large backpack.
"Are you sure that this is a good idea .Yaegashi?" The larger teen asked, getting the younger teen to sigh.
"Honestly I tried Anti-Skill and Judgement. Multiple times, and all it resulted in that punk and his friends getting away. Besides this wouldn't the first time you have gotten in trouble with either of them if we are caught." Yaegashi said, getting the larger teen to shake his head as he was given one of the crepes. "Your folks will just bust you out again."
"They will be mad though, but I think they will understand. Not going to be a pleasant few weeks either." The older teen said while giving Yaegashi a sideways glare. "If we get caught or that punk doesn't show up like you say, you are on your own. You get into anymore trouble and I will not be bailing your ass out."
"This will be the only time I ask for something like this. Also the guy is a creature of habit, so the chance that Asano will come this way is pretty high. Besides he won't stand a chance against us with our abilities Fudoyama." Yaegashi said as he pulled out his phone and earbuds before playing some music.
"You mean the ability that you developed in the past week, you can barely us it once. Besides I agreed to only restrain him, nothing more." Fudoyama said, getting the lanky teen to shake his head.
"You restrain him and I get a chance to punch that punk's teeth out, I consider that a win win situation." Yaegashi said with a grin. "After that we leave his Asano and his punk friends to Anti-Skill. Whatever happens next, well I guess we will deal with the consiquences."
"If we get caught and it is no question of us taking responsibility in our part. But be careful, he is an experienced Esper and you have only just gained your ability." Fudoyama warned, only for Yaegashi to wave his concerns off.
"That's why I have you, but I will." Yaegashi said as he took a bite of his crepe. "I suggest that you start eating your crepe or it will go bad."
Fudoyama simply shrugs as he took a bite of his crepe. A small smile gracing his face at the taste.
"Mikan, you remembered." Fudoyama said, getting the lanky teen to nod.
"Of course I did big guy." Yaegashi said as the two of them resumed eating their crepes.
The older teen might not entirely agree with Yaegashi's plan, but he had to admit this part was quite nice.
Roxas was in the middle of alleyway, drying off his cloak with a low powered Aerora.
"Seriously what do I look like to these people." The Nobody grumbled out as he finished drying the Black Coat and put it back on.
Ever since he has encountered that teen seemed that he has encountered a stream of bad luck, one incident after the next.
Nearly getting tripped up by a trashcan looking robot trying to vaccine up the bottom of his Black Coat, nearly getting beamed in the head by a falling flower pot, stepping into a few piles of dog poop, someone trying to mug him, finding out that he had constantly going in a giant circle after an hour of walking, nearly hit by what he believed they people of this world called a car after it ran a red light, and then people constantly throwing their drinks at him from passing by cars.
The later had him annoyed the most as people just constantly threw their drinks at him, like he was a walking trashcan.
Minus that part, Roxas considered he was making some good progress with mapping out the city.
Though it was still utterly massive in the grand scheme of things, perhaps even bigger than the World That Never Was.
So he was in an utterly massive city with no idea on where to start looking for concerning his lost memories.
The best he could do first was to get a lay of the land and find a place to set up camp before fully exploring this Academy City as he learned from the mugger.
Who he managed to get the would be thief to talk by taking a cue from Axel and threaten him with a flaming Keyblade after disarming the man.
Turns out the would be mugger thought that Roxas was a foreign tourist and the Nobody was an easy target. Only to be proven wrong.
Through him Roxas was able to gleam some knowledge from the man. The local currency yen, how people usually address one another on this part of the world, a bit more about Academy City, and finally Espers.
It was only a little bit of information but it gave Roxas a better idea on how to blend in.
After that Roxas knocked the man out, took half of his yen in compensation, and told a nearby onlooker to call Anti-Skill on the man before leaving in a well hidden Corridor of Darkness.
But not before being hit in the back by a cup full of soda once again.
Shaking his head at that memory, Roxas just sighed as he started to count the yen he took from the would be mugger.
He wasn't sure how much would be be enough for food, but besides looking for a place to sleep finding something to eat was a main priority as well.
He hadn't had anything to eat since before Riku captured him, so over a week. Human like Nobodies like himself could go without food for quite a while, but even a week was too much. That and he wanted to eat something that wasn't a part of that virtual prison.
So Roxas decided to at least try to treat himself on something sweet now that he was free.
After that he would have be frugal with what he has and find a way to make a steady stream of yen without having to rely on mugging a mugger.
"Kid I suggest that you give us the yen if you want to walk out of this alleyway alive." A voice said from behind Roxas, breaking him from his this thoughts.
He turned his head to the side to see two young men right behind him. One brandishing a knife and the other trying to intimidate him with a baseball bat.
Roxas just sighed at the newest bit of bad luck before turning to face them.
A minute and two pillars of light later Roxas had downed his would be muggers and had just taken half of their yen when he sensed someone approaching.
Quickly he opened a Corridor of Darkness and slipped through it.
Touma Kamijou had just found yet another 10,000 yen bill when he heard the sound of screaming.
Without thinking he ran down the alleyway to see what was going on.
Only to see two groaning muggers judging by their downed weapons and what looked like a black wispy pillar closing up.
"Looks like everything here has been handled." Touma sighed out as he pulled out his phone to place an anonymous call for someone to pick to the failed muggers up.
Wouldn't be the last time this situation happened, but it would be the first time in quite a long while that his rotten luck wasn't the cause this time.
Roxas emerged from in another alleyway and walked out of it, ready to explore the city once again.
Only to be smacked in the face by a full cup of soda and knocked back onto the ground.
"You have got to be kidding me." Roxas said as he wiped his eyes with his sleeve, trying to get the soda out of his eyes.
"Are you okay?" Someone asked as Roxas stood up, as he finished cleaning himself off.
"I'm alright." Roxas said, briefly pausing once he gotten a good look at who spoke to him.
It was Xion...at least that was what he first thought.
The young girl in front of him resembled Xion to such a degree it startled him. But there were several key differences. Mainly that she was shorter, a little younger, and had softer facial features then Xion. Along with golden brown eyes and a headband lined with flowers.
So there were several differences, but the resemblance was still shocking.
Next to her was a tall girl about his height with blue eyes and long black hair with a white flower hair clip. She wore a similar uniform to the other girl and she looked excited at something.
Both of them had a fairly strong hearts, but the girl with the flower headband's heart was incredibly potent just below it's surface. More so then he would have expected.
"No way! Uiharu it's him!" The tall girl said excitedly, getting Roxas to look at her in confusion.
While Uiharu looking to see if he was alright, she saw her friend pointing at the blond haired teen.
More specifically the black hooded coat he wore.
He was probably the Boy in the Black Cloak that Saten had told her to have recently reappeared.
"Saten you shouldn't point at him, it's a ride thing to do." Uiharu lightly scolded her friend.
He was possibly the source of the urban legend, the source of the reemergence of them, or someone copying them. But it was still rude to point.
Yet Saten seemed to ignore her friend's words.
"But Uiharu it is him. He is the Boy in the Black Cloak. His coat matches the descriptions perfectly. Thought he would be a little taller tough." Saten said excitedly, getting Roxas to look at her confusedly.
"What are you talking about?" Roxas inquired, trying to find some more information from them.
These two girls kept calling him the Boy in the Black Coat. Considering his physical age and the Organization's attire they probably know of at least something of his time in this world.
If not than it would give him an idea on what to look for.
"My friend is a fan of urban legends, she believes that you might be one that has turned up recently." Uiharu said honestly, figuring it was probably the best things to say.
The Nobody just nodded in response.
"Got it, I knew a few people like that." Roxas said, thinking of the virtual versions of Pence, Hayner, and Olette. "Though I wouldn't know much about it, only arrived in Academy City earlier today."
Which was technically true, as he held no memories of his first time here.
"Oh, I see." Saten said, her excitement almost completely disappearing.
It might have been a coincidence with his attire that the teen could have caused a resurgence in the urban legend.
Still she got the feeling their might be some connection with him and the legend. So she would have to find out a bit more.
"So what do you think of Academy City so far?" Saten asked.
"Definitely a lot bigger then I thought it would be, I keep getting lost. Even spent an hour going in a circle." Roxas sighed out.
"It is usually like that the first time someone arrives into Academy City without a guide. I can give you directions
to the nearest station if you need some help." Uiharu suggested, having some experience with similar situations during her time in Judgement.
"I'll take it, but first can do you know a good place to eat around here?" Roxas asked.
At that moment Saten's eyes widened with excitement once again.
"Actually the two of us were going to one such location called Crepe RABLM to meet our friends there. It is not that far from here and Uriharu can give you directions on the way there." Saten suggested with a smile.
Roxas pondered on whether or not to accept the offer while Uiharu sighed. Figuring out what her friend probably wanted.
The Nobody pondered for a few moments before deciding to take the girl's offer.
That and whatever a crepe was, it sounded delicious.
"Alright then." Roxas said with a nod.
"Then let's go. Anyway my name is Ruiko Saten and this is my classmate Kazari Uiharu." Saten said.
"I'm Roxas, nice to meet you both." The Nobody said.
"Well then Roxas, let's go." Saten said, getting a running headstart.
"Saten wait up!" Uiharu said, trying to catch up while Roxas gained a small smile as he followed them.
The two of them seemed to have good friendship with each other. Similar to how he and Axel had, the one he and Xion most likely had as well.
Perhaps he will experience such a thing with either of them again one day.
In another part of Academy City awhile later, a pair of teens were on the run, wearing a pair of ski masks and heavy sweatshirts. Each one carrying an armful of cash.
They were just turning a corner when the taller of the two suddenly stopped.
"Asano what's wrong." The younger one said.
"Zip it, we have got ourselves a little problem." Asano said gruffly as a teenaged girl with a Judgement armband ran towards them, small bits of flame gathering in her hand.
"I'm with Judgement and y-" The girl tried to say before Asano cut her off.
"Under arrest for robbing an ATM I know, I know. But I believe you have more pressing issues." He said, before gesturing for his alley to get back.
The girl prepared to launch fire at him, only for Asano's eyes to glow red, causing his AIM field to crash against the girl's. The Judgment member's flames died in her hand, their eyes gained a red rim around irises, and their face contorted into a snarl.
Asano noticed another Judgement member rushing up to them and pointed at him.
"Attack." He said before the girl ran towards him with an enraged yell, flames coming to life once again. "We need to hurry, we are nearly running late and the girl is out of range."
With that Asano and his accomplice booked it out of the alleyway and ran another block before coming to their get away driver had parked.
"Did they follow you two?" The driver asked as he popped open the trunk as Asano and the other teen stashed to money in where the spare tire would be.
Once the loot was secure they closed the trunk and proceeded to ditch their masks and sweatshirts in a nearby dumpster.
Asano climbed into the backseat and his accomplice in shotgun as the driver started the car.
"Remember drive slowly, we draw lees attention to ourselves that way." Asano said to the driver, getting him to nod as they started to drive away.
"Got to say boss we really did it!" The accomplice said excitedly, getting Asano to nod.
"Took a few weeks to learn the schedules and layout, but it went all according to plan. Minus the interference by Judgement, but nothing I couldn't handle." He said as his eyes returned to normal. "And she is out of range, they should be catching up to use sooner or later. Stick to planned route and not be a second late we will avoid the patrols and stash the yen. And we will not be spending any of it for a week, especially you Kanai."
"Are you kidding boss." His accomplice tried to complain, only to be silenced as Asano's eyes briefly flashed red.
Seeing the desired effect, Asano cut his ability off.
"I am not, it will lessen any risk of being found out. Until then just stick to what we always do." Asano said.
"So shaking down any Level 0." Kanai said, getting Asano to grin.
"Exactly, now we continue as planned. Just be careful around Fureai Plaza. Anti-Skill should still be pretty active around there, but it is the quickest way back." He said, getting the driver to nod as he turned the car onto their planned route.
"So what do you think?" Uiharu asked as Roxas took a bite of his crepe.
They had arrived at Crepe RABLM only a few minutes ago. Thankfully the line was not that long and all three of them quickly gotten their crepes.
Though to Roxas's disappointment there was no option with sea salt, so he decided on a slated caramel crepe.
And he enjoyed it.
"It's actually pretty good, could use a little more salt though." Roxas said as he took another bite.
"Really, I would think otherwise with how much salt is in there?" Saten asked.
"I suppose might be because I used to eat sea salt ice cream in with my friends everyday. The perfect blend salty, but sweet. Do either of you know if there is any place that sells them in Academy City?" Roxas asked the two.
Saten just shrugged as Uiharu finished another bite of her crepe.
"Actually there are a few stores that I know that have tried to make sea salt ice cream. But it didn't taste like how you described." The girl with the flower headband said blandly, shuddering at the memories of the terrible taste.
Before taking another bite of her crepe to forget about it.
"I see, it's a shame then." Roxas sighed out. "Well I suppose I can remake it myself then once I get the chance." He mused out.
"Do you really think that you can?" Saten asked curiously as Uiharu was giving the Nobody an inquisitive stare.
"I got the recipe memorized, so I do believe I can recreate it from scratch." Roxas said honestly.
It was just about the only good thing from DiZ messing with his memories besides at least basic knowledge to fit in the virtual Twilight Town.
"Then do you think we can try some?" Uiharu asked a little excitedly, getting Roxas and Saten to chuckle.
For Saten it was amusement at her friend's action.
For Roxas, he was pretty sure that he would have had a similar reaction to her.
"Sure, if we do meet each other again. Given the size of what I have seen of Academy City, it would be difficult." Roxas said, getting Saten to shake her head.
"You would be surprised what can happen in Academy City sometimes." Saten said with a smile. "I didn't expect to meet the Boy in the Black Cloak at all today, but here we are."
"Saten Roxas isn't this urban legend." Uiharu sighed out.
"But he might have some connection, he does have a black coat after all. So is this truly your first time here at Academy City?" Saten asked excitedly, making her intent known.
The Nobody briefly pondered on what to tell her before deciding he could at least humor her request.
"This is actually the second time at Academy City, though it has been so long that I can barely remember being here though." Roxas said honestly, leaving out a detail or two.
It was technically true as he was barely over a month old at the time.
"I see." Saten said with a slight inquisitive look, figuring that he might be hiding something. "So have you undergone the Power Curriculum Program yet?"
Maybe she could get him to slip up and reveal his ability. If he really is the Boy in the Black Cloak he would have one of several abilities.
If not then he probably just resembled the rumors or is hiding them.
"No I have not, I have been lost the entire time and only just arrived after one of my friends suggested I come back here. I literally had no other options." Roxas said while his tone sounded a little bitter at the end, getting Saten to wince.
Okay she had not expected him to respond like that at all.
"Are you alright Roxas?" Uiharu asked, having been surprised and concerned at just how bitter he sounded.
"Honestly I am not, but that is why I am here. To start a new. Tough my friend told that some people that I know from the last time I was here would are still in Academy City. Perhaps I may not see them, though it would be good to at least know who they are." Roxas sighed out, remembering what Xion had told them.
There was people he knew here that possibly remembered him during his time.
The Nobody doubted to he Organization could wipe their memory on a grand scale. Given the sheer size of Academy City he doubted it.
And it at least he was somewhat known as a urban legend according to Saten.
Still they might have left Academy City or not, but without any memories he had nothing to go on.
"I see, well at least you know two people in Academy City now I suppose. And you could always contact Judgement for assistance." Uiharu said with a small smile.
"If we meet again that is, though given Uiharu's love of sweets and sea salt ice cream it is only a matter of time." Saten said teasingly, getting the girl with the floral headband to pout.
"Saten." She groaned out in embarrassment.
Roxas just chuckled as that.
"Believe that I am sure and I did say so. I got it all memorized." Roxas said with a smile and tapping his head with his finger.
Uiharu looked at him confusedly while Saten had a mischievous smirk.
"It's something my friend Axel does to make sure people remember him by." Roxas explained.
"Well with the gesture it certainly helps." Saten said with a small chuckle.
"I believe that was the whole point of it." Roxas said, breaking into a chuckle of his own. While Uiharu nodded in agreement as she happily took another bite of her crepe.
The Nobody was enjoying this interaction. It kind of felt like being on the clock tower with Axel and perhaps Xion.
After eating their crepes Roxas knew that it would be time for him to part ways with them and he didn't know the next time he could experience something like this again.
So for now, he would enjoy this as long as he could.
Fudoyama finished his crepe and threw his and Yaegashi's trash when they saw Asano's getaway car driving down the street, the man himself in the backseat.
"Are you certain about this, we can stop this right now Yaegashi." He said calmly, getting his friend to shake his head.
"Sorry, but I'm not letting this chance go." Yaegashi said
Fudoyama sighed as Yaegashi ran forward, light starting to bristle off of him.
Roxas, Saten, and Uiharu had just finished their crepes when a loud sound rang out throughout the plaza followed by a blinding light.
The later two covered their eyes while Roxas could see it being emitted from a lanky teen not that far from them..
The light and sound lasted for less than a second before it ended and the teen struggled to stand up. He would have collapsed if a layer of earth didn't rise up to support him.
A nearby car drive to the side, only to be slam into a wall rising out of the road.
The driver appeared to have been knocked out while the other two passengers climbed out of the car. Just as they got out, several spires of asphalt rose and slammed into the back. Lifting it up into the air and popping the trunk open .
Cause quite a large amount of yen bills to fall out of the wreckage.
Saten and Roxas looked on in surprise at what was going on as Uiharu slipped in her armband and proceeded to make a call.
"Yes we have a possible hit and run on 7th street at Fuirai Plaza. There are two suspects involved and both are Espers. Suspects attacking a car with possible stolen yen in the trunk." Uiharu said before the other end of the line started to speak up. "Yes there were three people on the car." She said before listening once again. "I see, then I am requesting mobilization of Anti-Skill."
"Uiharu what is going on?" Saten asked as her friend got off the phone.
"The people in that car robbed an ATM several blocks from her. One of them is an Esper that caused a member of Judgement to go crazy and attack someone. Saten I am going to need help keeping everyone back. Shirai should be here any minute now. With her and Misaka or Anti-Skill they should be able to restrain then. But until them I am going to need help making sure no one else gets hurt until help arrives." Uiharu explained Saten to nod in agreement.
Against a trio of Espers there was little she could do.
But maybe...
"Then I will help out as well." Roxas said.
Figuring that after they had helped him out it was the least he could do.
While he would prefer not to do anything that would draw attention to himself, if whatever issue the trio of Espers had with each other spiraled out of control. Though he was somewhat weary of what could sense with their hearts.
While the tall tern that was helping the lanky one up had the strongest heart in the nearby area, it was the not him that had the Nobody concerned.
Now it was the lanky teen with him and one of the people who got out of the car. Both of them had strong hearts, but the two of them felt strange.
The both of them had a strange depth to them. Like something was slowly siphoning both the light and the darkness from their hearts while simultaneously amplifying what remained. Causing an unstable balance of taking and enhancing.
Roxas had never seen such a phenomenon and wondered how they were able function with their hearts in such an imbalance. Making him weary just what they were capable of.
But that would not stop him from interfering if things got out of hand.
"Alright then follow me." Uiharu said, getting both Roxas and Saten to nod with them following her lead.
Asano groaned as he picked himself up.
And immediately turned enraged once he saw the yen they stole blowing blowing out of the car.
"No!" He growled out before he saw Yaegashi and Fudoyama start to approach them.
"Kanai get up and help me deal with them!" He shouted at his accomplice.
The both of them got up and ready for action.
Only for the ground had fall under Kanai and for him to be knocked by a rock pillar.
"Damn it." Asano cursed out as Yaegashi started to approach him. "How the hell did you know about our plans and when did you become an Esper. You were nothing."
"Not that long ago. As for how I know, thank Kanai. He let your plan slip after thinking he had mugged me again without noticing." Yaegashi said coldly, only getting Asano to growl.
"I knew that I shouldn't have included him." Asano growled out before smirking. "So this is revenge right. From all the times he beat you and stole your yen. Or is it for your cousin. I believe that he should be discharged from the hospital in two weeks?"
"Eleven days actually, and only because you three put him there in the first place!" Yaegashi growled out hatefully.
"Yaegashi calm down." Fudoyama said as approached the two.
"Only because he resisted us and made me late for a date. He like you was nothing, so when he tried to resist the best place to put him was back into the dirt." Asano said with a condescending smirk.
Yaegashi made a step forward, but the asphalt moved from under him and forced him back. While Asano quickly found his feet bound in asphalt.
"That is enough, we have already gone far enough. There is more than enough evidence for Judgement and Anti-Skill to deal with him. Let's just go, he is not worth the effort." Fudoyama said sternly, trying to lead Yaegashi away from the smirking Asano.
"He's right, after all you tried to get Judgement on me before and looked how it worked so far." Asano said, getting Yaegashi to from as he pushed Fudoyama away and began to walk towards the bound Esper.
"Don't do this Yaegashi." The older teen warned.
But his friend was too filled anger to listen.
"No, he's right. I tried Judgement and they did nothing while Asano and his thugs have gotten away with bullying others for far too long. I'll let Anti-Skill deal with him. After I get some payback!" Yaegashi growled out as he charged forward in an attempt to punch Asano.
Only to realize to late he fell into a trap when Asano's eyes glowed red.
And his friend to step in between them.
"Fudoyama no!" The lanky teen called out as he took several steps back. But to his surprise his older friend didn't move.
"Free." Asano said, pointing to his feet.
The asphalt quickly peeled away and both teens now faced Yaegashi. Both with a red ring around the irises. Fudoyama's face contorted into a feral snarl with Asano just smirked.
"Bury." Was all the later teen said.
Yaegashi tried to run back, but the roadway opened up and he feel through into a hole. He tried to climb out only for his legs to now be covered in asphalt.
"How are you doing this, I thought that you could only make people get enraged?" Yaegashi questioned as he tried to make sense of things.
"Your not the only one who has improved. Although it is limited, your large friend is under my control. Say how strong is he?
Level 3? Level 4?" Asano guessed before shrugging. "Doesn't matter, thanks to you he is going to help me recover as much yen as I can and leave him to deal with Anti-Skill while I escape. After I make you regret bringing him here."
He looked to the side and Yaegashi copied his action.
To see that Asano was looking at a teen in a black coat and a girl in Judgement with a flower headband trying to get a few other teens away from them.
And promptly paled once he realized what the red eyed teen was planning.
"Asano no, leave them out of this. This is just between you and me." Yaegashi called out.
"Oh no this will only cause a bigger distraction for me to escape and to get your friend in trouble. This will get the both of you in trouble and leave the dead weight to be dealt with by Anti-Skill while I get away." Asano said with a grin. "Consider this payback for making me late and ruining my plans. Attack!"
Fudoyama let out an enraged snarl as he sent an ripple of wave towards his targets.
Roxas was currently helping Saten trying to keep a few teens back from the confrontation.
Most of them holding out a strange device in their hands.
While Roxas wondered why they complained to him about not getting a good shot, the Nobody was more concerned with what was going on as he felt an unstable link form between one of the unusual hearts to the larger teen's heart.
To him it could spell nothing good.
And he was proven right when he heard something rumbling behind him.
"Uiharu, Roxas look out." Saten called out, getting the two to turn around as a mass of earth moving like wave towards them.
Uiharu took a few steps back as the teens behind them scrambled away. Roxas however took a few steps forward towards the mass of earth.
She tried to call out to him, only to be shocked when he summoned a barrier that the mass of earth crashed into.
Both Uiharu and Saten watched in surprise as Roxas held up his barrier, blocking the attack and causing it to lose traction as it shrunk in size. The Nobody kept this up for a few moments before there was nothing more then a pile of rocks and dirt in front of the barrier.
Roxas panted a bit once he dispelled the barrier.
Seems like he needed to practice his abilities a little more.
"Roxas your an Esper? But you said that you didn't take the Power Curriculum Program?" Uiharu said as she and Saten both ran up to Roxas to see if he was alright. And to get some answers from him.
"I'm not. I have only told you both the truth." Roxas said before looking at the red eyed and tall Espers.
The former was looking a little anxious but still standing firm while the taller one had his features set in a snarl.
They had tried to attack him and Uiharu, that was more than enough cause to interfere.
"Though Saten was probably right about who I was, but that was the first time I have heard about it." Roxas said while looking back at them, getting both girl's eyes to widen as he summoned Oathkeeper and Oblivion. "Now then if you two have any other questions, I'll answer them after I deal with this."
With that Roxas rushed forward, leaving behind a stunned Uiharu and an excited Saten.
"You were right." Uiharu breathed out, still processing what was happening.
"I know, if the constant reports are right he should at least be able to hold them off. Perhaps even stop them." Saten said with a grin.
Not only was Roxas the Boy in the Black Cloak but as he admitted to not being an Esper or undergoing the Power Curriculum Program than he was possibly a Gemstone.
She never thought she would actually see a Gemstone given how rare the rumours about them are.
Though she was surprised that he was using two giant keys instead of one, perhaps maybe he picked it up in the months between.
Either way, she had plenty of questions. But they can wait until after this situation resolved first.
"Saten come on, we still have to keep everybody back." Uiharu said, snapping her friend out of her musings.
"Alright." Saten said, once again following her friends leave as Roxas walked up toward the Espers.
"You have got to be kidding me." Asano breathed out as the newest nuisance started walking up to them. Keyblades in hand.
He did not count on the blond being a power Esper and now armed with two large key like weapons.
What was he a chūnibyō?
Then again so was one of the Level 5 according to rumor. And considering what he heard about his powers...
Asano was not going to take any chances, he needed to get back to the car and into the glovebox.
"Stay." He ordered, pointing to himself, getting Fudoyama to let out a snarl as moved closer. "Defend."
Fudoyama let out a deep growl as a wave of earth rushed towards Roxas.
"Fira!" Roxas casted, launching a fireball from Oathkeeper that blasted apart the earthen wave.
Asano started to back up hastily as Fudoyama let out a snarl as he unleashed two more earthen waves.
The Nobody quickly blasted them in the same way before a deep indentation began to open up beneath him. Roxas quickly jumped out of the way, only to be pushed back by a third earthen wave.
He quickly regained his footing as the wave quickly approached once again. This time Roxas quickly blasted it apart with a series of light pillars.
Fudoyama let out a growl as he and Asano were now close to the car. The larger teen prepared to launch another earthen wave.
However Roxas was ready this time.
"Thunder!" He casted, launching a string of lightning bolts towards them.
Fudoyama lat out a snarl as he raised an earth wall, but the spell moved over it and gave both him and Asano quite a nasty shock. However the both of them still had plenty of strength left in them.
As Asano reached the passenger seat Roxas charged up another spell.
Only to have his concentration broken by something grabbing his ankle.
"Wait don't blast the car again. You got lucky, but one miss fire and you could risk blowing up Asano, his thug, and my friend. I could care less about the former, but I can not lose my best friend." Yaegashi groaned out, getting Roxas's attention.
The Esper was still trapped in the hole, but had grabbed a hold onto Roxas's ankle with one hand and pointing at a puddle of gasoline pooling at of the car.
"Then I won't." Roxas sighed out, mist beginning to generate at the tip of Oathkeeper. "But do you have any idea what is going on with your friend?"
The Nobody could tell that he was being controlled, but since the trapped Esper seemed to know of the one controlling him perhaps it could be broken. Leaving this Asano wide open.
As for the other two...he would have to wait and see if they needed to be dealt with.
"No idea, all Asano could do before was just make people enraged. Still seems like he can, but now he can control them. Seems limited though. If I had known that I wouldn't have involved Fudoyama in this..." Yaegashi trailed off, getting Roxas to sigh.
He could kind of understand where he was coming from and it might be Sora's memories bleeding through, but he aimed Oblivion below Yaegashi and unleashed a silent Thunder spell. Breaking the asphalt shackles.
"I might have a way to snap your friend out of this, but only if you two comply with Judgement or Anti-Skill. Now how do I stop your friend." Roxas said tersely as Yaegashi climbed out of the hole.
"Fudoyama's ability is Topographical Manipulation. Get his feet off the ground and his power decreases sharply. And don't worry we will." Yaegashi groaned out.
Roxas just nodded and trained both his Keyblades at the car, mist generating out of both tips.
He knew what he had to do. All he needed to do was get in close.
"Blizzara!" The Nobody casted, launching two large ice crystals at Asano and Fudoyama.
The controlled Esper raised two earthen walls to block the attacks, causing the crystals to burst and covering the walls with jagged ice and a light mist.
Just as Roxas had planned as he rushed forward.
Only to grunt in pain as a gun shot rang out.
Both Saten and Uiharu looked in horror as Asano had just shot Roxas in the chest with a SIG Sauer P220. Only to breathe out a sigh of relief as they saw the bullet bounced off his coat, not even piercing it.
With Saten just wondering what it was made of to take a bullet like it was nothing. Though it didn't seem to stop the impact judging by Roxas's reaction.
The Nobody meanwhile composed himself after being hit with something akin to being super punched by a Neoshadow in the gut.
He looked up to see a snarling Fudoyama and Asano start to approach him. The later preparing to fire another shot.
"Kanai might be an idiot, but he has his uses." Asano said before pointing at the Nobody. "Attack."
Fudoyama let a low growl as he rushed forward, earth spires rising in an attempt to skewer Roxas.
The Nobody brought up his barrier to block against them and another bullet fired from Asano. He struggled to maintain it as the earth beneath him began to give way.
Roxas dispelled the barrier and jumped out of the hole. Just in time to avoid an earth pillar that would have smashed into him.
Fudoyama let out a vicious roar as he swiped his foot among the ground, creating a ridge that would have slammed into the Nobody if he didn't dodge. It was soon followed by a few earth spires that Roxas parried away with his Keyblades.
But not as Asano took another shot, getting Roxas to grunt in pain as it hit him square in the back. And opened him up to be hit by an earthen spire. He was pushed back a little bit before recomposing himself and using a light pillar to blast through an earthen wave. Fudoyama used the ground beneath him to evade being hit as Roxas trained his Keyblades on the opposing Espers.
"Aerora! Blizzard!" The Nobody casted.
Fudoyama raised an earth wall to block the wind lance. Only for the spell to blast through it and sent the tall teen back.
Asano wasn't so lucky as the spell hit him in the leg froze him in pain.
The red eyed Esper grunted in pain before aiming to take another shot at Roxas. Bit was prevented from doing so as Yaegashi rushed forward and tackle it out of his hand.
"Yaegashi!" Asano growled out as he tried to reach into his pocket.
"I have been waiting a long time for this Asano." Yaegashi said as he began to glow. Asano drew out a switchblade, but didn't have time to use it as Yaegashi detonated in a flash of light and sound.
The lanky teen collapsed to the ground barely counsious and Asano dropped his switchblade as he cried out in pain. He clutched his eyes and ears as he could barely see and the ringing wouldn't stop.
An action Fudoyama copied as Roxas felt the link between his and Asano's heart was severed. However the Nobody could still feel it was still tainted.
Fudoyama quickly let out a feral roar as he rushed forward. He swung his arms and two earth pillars that would have slammed into Roxas if he didn't rush forwards. The enraged Esper summoned some more earth spires, but they were quickly blown apart by light pillars.
Roxas got in close to him and pointed Oathkeeper downwards before the larger teen could react.
"Aeroga!" Roxas casted, summoning a whirlwind that picked Fudoyama up.
The older teen raised a small earth pillar to try and stop him, but it crumbled under the shear force of the winds and Fudoyama's reduced strength. He tried to take a swing at the Nobody, but Roxas swung Oblivion into the air and sent him airborne. He then trained Oathkeeper to the ground.
"Blizzaga!" Roxas casted, launching an ice mine towards the ground. It detonated and trapped the falling Fudoyama in an ice pillar.
All the tall teen could do was snarl at him as Roxas dispelled the whirlwind and Oblivion and reached into his bag.
Before force feeding him an Elixir.
The Nobody had experienced several Heartless that could inflict a similar albeit weaker status on someone. While the effect here was stronger, the principle was the same.
And it seemed to work as the taint around Fudoyama's heart vanished and his eyes returned to normal.
Roxas tapped the ice pillar with Oathkeeper and it vanished, leaving Fudoyama to compose himself as the Nobody could hear the sound of sirens in the distance.
Sounds like it was time for him to leave.
"You alright?" Roxas asked Fudoyama as he picked himself up.
"I'll be alright, I'm just glad that I didn't hurt anyone. Minus you, but you seem like you can take a hit." Fudoyama groaned at, getting Roxas to shrug. "Better get Yaegashi and wait for Anti-Skill. Best to get what is coming to us over and done with. That and fixing up the mess I caused here."
"That might be for the best." Uiharu said as she and Saten ran up to them.
"Still that was amazing Roxas." Saten said with a grin, seeing him actually living up to the description of the urban legend and surpassing it. "Still at least me and Uiharu are glad that you are alright."
The Nobody just nodded before he felt Asano's heart darken a bit.
Looking over he saw the Esper pick himself up with a groan, switch blade in hand.
He tried to make a move on Yaegashi, but the lanky teen was soon on a slab of earth being pulled towards everyone else.
Asano tried to take a step forward, only to scream out in pain as he was electrocuted. A moment later his blackened, twitching body collapsed onto the asphalt.
Mikoto Misaka sighed out as she saw her own handiwork.
Today was not the best day for her so far. She had been looking forward to spending sometime with her friends.
Instead she and Kuroko found themselves later when the former was acting out of hand once again.
Resulting in a blown transformer and a mass delay.
Though it was quickly settled the two of them had hurried to the plaza once Kuroko was informed what was going on.
But it seemed like the situation had been settled just about by the time they had gotten to Seventh Street. And at least Saten and Uiharu were alright.
Asano groaned once more as he reached for his switchblade, only for Misaka to zap him with a small bolt of electricity. This time finally knocking him unconscious.
"I believe that should finish him off." Mikasa said.
"Hopefully." Roxas said as he studied the newcomer wearily.
She was a young woman around his physical age and height with short chestnut hair, brown eyes, and a hair clip.
What made him weary was the where strength of her heart and the feeling it gave off. Minus what he sensed when he first arrived in this world, her heart was the strongest he had ever encountered. Greater then anyone else's in the plaza or anyone else he was able to sense in Academy City so far. It was balanced, but it also gave off a feeling that the Nobody could only compare to a constant static.
Still with the looks of relief Saten and Uiharu gave her were a good indication that they at least trusted her.
And it was a good indication for him to leave right now.
With that Roxas opened up a Corridor of Darkness right behind him and dispelled Oathkeeper.
"Roxas you can't be leaving already?" Uiharu questioned, figuring out what he was going to do.
"Afraid so, I have to go now. Uiharu, Saten thank you for both for helping me out. Hopefully I will be seeing you two soon." Roxas said as he took a step before the corridor.
"Wait you said that you would answer our questions. So can you answer just one. If you do not consider yourself an Esper, then what are you?" Saten asked curiously.
He was most likely a Gemstone. But given that he could use multiple abilities and two key like swords, she was interested in what he called himself.
Roxas looked back at her for a moment, pondering on what to tell her. Before deciding to simply tell the truth.
"A Nobody." Roxas answered with a small smile, getting her and and Uiharu to look on in confusion. Just like he thought they would.
With that he stepped into the Corridor before anyone else could respond and it closed up behind him.
Mikasa sighed as she surveyed the surrounding area to see all the damage caused and Kuroko apprehending Kanai as woke up and tried to make a break for it.
"Saten, Uiharu." She said, facing her friends. "Would you two mind explaining what happened here and who was that?"
Roxas emerged in an alleyway section of Academy City, far away from where he last was.
Surveying his surroundings he saw a river down the road from the alleyway's enterance and judging by his senses there wasn't that many people around.
He exited the alleyway, and narrowly avoided being hit by a passing car throwing a half empty soda can at him. It landed on the wall next to him, getting Roxas to let out a sigh of relief as he didn't get wet this time.
Which turned into a smirk as he saw said car being pulled over by an Anti-Skill car.
He summoned another corridor and emerged closer to the river. Checking his surroundings he decided to check around for a place to set up while he continued to explore the city.
At the same time Touma Kamijou was dripping wet and let out a relieved sigh.
"Such misfortune." He said as he threw a large, wet wad of paper into a nearby garbage bin.
Today ever since he met that blond haired teen he had gained nothing but a string of good luck. Which it was kind of unsettling considering his usual luck. It was all mostly minor bits of good luck minus finding more 10,000 yen bills than an average highschool student should have.
Though he had no idea why all of his female classmates seemed a bit cold to him.
And he was annoyed more then once at Tsuchimikado and Aogami claiming the Kami-yan disease was fading away.
But it seemed like he his luck had switched back when he tripped on the sidewalk on the way home. And gotten soaked by a falling bucket of water from a window washer. And from the way it fell it ruined most of the 10,000 yen bills.
He had over 14 bills left, still more than enough for essentials.
Which considering his luck, they wouldn't even last the week. Still it was quite a small boost for his finances, so better to use it wisely before his bad luck strikes again.
So once he was dry enough, he continued the walk back to his dorm.
Hoping that the blond teen didn't suffer a string of horrible bad luck like he usually does on a daily basis.
After a bit of walking along the riverside Roxas had managed to find a place to camp out of the night.
Under a bridge, in a less populated area among the riverbank judging by what he could sense.
Not exactly the best place to camp out in, but he at least had a something over his head this time. Unlike back during his brief time on the run from the Organization before being caught by Riku.
He had managed to survey more of Academy City and was currently writing down his findings, illuminated by a small orb of light floating above it.
Luckily he managed to complete this task without drawing too much attention to himself for the rest of the day.
Though his fight earlier today no doubt gained quite a bit of attention. Perhaps of those that knew of him would find out through that fight.
But the Nobody doubted it, but it was a. possibility.
Still he figured it was best to attract less then he already have for a few days.
After that...he had no idea.
But as he came to this world to start anew, perhaps it would be a good idea to enroll for school given most of the inhabitants of the city were students from what he heard. With his false memories in of the virtual Twilight Town he had a slight idea on what to expect. Yet given his age and that he was from another word that task was going to be difficult to accomplish.
So for now he would focus on continuing on surveying Academy City and figure out the rest once he learned more.
A few more strokes of his pen and Roxas was felt that he was done writing.
With that he closed up his journal and tapped the light orb, dispelling it.
He put away the journal and prepared to go to sleep.
Tomorrow he hoped things that wouldn't be as hectic as they were today, but the Nobody wouldn't mind it any other way.
Because the first time in forever he wouldn't have to worry about the Organization or Sora. The former would most likely think he is dead and he would love nothing more than to stay away from his Somebody.
Since now for the first time in his life, he was truly free.
"This could be a problem if Roxas interferes too much." Aleister Crowley sighed out from inside his tank as he observed a recording of Roxas fighting Asano and Fudoyama.
He had no issue with Roxas when he first arrived in Academy City 10 months ago. The first Keyblade wielder in this world in over a century.
Roxas then was more of a minor interference. Seeming a novice in the way of the Keyblade from what he knew.
Something Aleister could easily plan around.
So it wad of no great importance when Roxas was spirited off world.
The less could be said about the man known as Xigbar. That man had single handily nearly ruined his plans with the mess he left behind. Though it could be argued the events would have happened regardless of the man's interference.
Nevertheless if Xigbar returned to Academy City, Aleister will make sure that the man will perish.
Still now it appeared that Roxas had returned and have improved greatly ok n the span of 10 months. And now possessed the ability to wield two Keyblades, something he not thought possible.
Add in that Roxas had returned when a majority of his plans were in motion meant he could be a major thorn in his sides.
Meaning that he needed to calculate around this new interference and turn it to his advantage.
The Keyblade was quite the powerful artifact and with it's power it could unlock possibilities he hadn't considered before.
Possibilities that Aleister could use to further his plans and get rid of obstacles if properly guided. Or just as well leave his plans in tatters.
Either way the Superintendent of Academy City was interested in how he could use the young Keyblade wielder to his advantage.
If he didn't leave the world once again that is.
In a dimly lit room someone was watching a recording of Roxas's fight with a small, sad smile on their face.
"So your back Roxas." The figure said, happy to now after all this time he was alright.
The screen flickered for a bit before the author reappeared.
*Hey guys Hakuorofan7 here and I hoped that you all enjoyed this chapter.*
*As you can see Roxas had made his presence known in Academy City during a conflict with a trio of out of control Espers. Given his string of bad luck...this is pretty much a Tuesday for Touma. Honestly given his luck there is a very real possibility Touma had at least one encounter with an Esper using Level Upper. Though Roxas had the unfortunate luck to encounter two.*
*And thankfully their luck has realigned. The luck switch is temporary, but could happen if Roxas touches Imagine Breaker again. As for why though, as I said last time it is due to his existence and I will reveal that at another time.*
*He also has managed to get along with Uiharu and Saten due to them helping him and a shared sweet tooth. Along with a very brief encounter Misaka, but as said brief.*
*Though his main focus right now is finding more about Academy City. Given that he just escaped from rejoining with Sora, finding out about a side of himself erased from the Organization, and Xion Roxas is now. planning on creating a new life in Academy City. He has no true idea on what to do, but he does want to know what happened the first time and find a way to separate Xion from himself.*
*Though it seems it will happen sooner or later, just not in the way Roxas would expect. With Aleister now starting to plan on how to best include him in his plans while wishing Xigbar dead about half as much as he will with Shiage. Along with someone else that seems to know him. So what exactly did Xigbar do and who exactly is glad to see Roxas is back, we'll just have to wait and see.*
*Anyway next chapter will take place a few days with Roxas still adapting to Academy City before encounter Touma once again and finding himself in a troublesome situation with Mikasa. And at the end of it once again find himself in a fight. Along with Riku and Naminé beginning to hunt for Academy City, looking for Roxas. So I hope you all enjoy it when it comes out.*
*Finally before I go there is one issue I wish to cover...pairing.*
*After a year of studying the series I have come the realization that most of the major players have harems. Misaka has a small one of both genders, Accelerator has one but could careless, Shiage has one along with already having a girlfriend, Kakure has one with the most grounded in reality being his serial killer little sister and no I am not joking, and Touma has the largest confirmed harem in anime and manga numbering close to 10,000 members.*
*So it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to include Roxas among that number. There will be some limitations of course but I am open to suggestions. Though some members are off limits though. Only confirmed members are Xion and one of the Sisters. Given their nature and the sheer numbers it wouldn't be too much of a possibility. That and it will be quite an interesting pairing to explore. I will take any suggestions for the number though. I do have one other member planed, but I will leave her as a surprise until it is time or someone guesses correctly.*
*Anyway with that it is time to end this for now.*
*If you have any questions leave a review or PM me and I will get back to you when I can. So until next time, ciao!*
The author waves goodbye as the screen fades to black.
