At the scene in a museum there were hostages when Spider-man got there some of the bad guys had already been taken care of looking like they were attacked by ants. Spider-Man quickly freed the hostages and went to where there was a fight. Flipping down from the ceiling webbing the rest of the criminals for the police he saw Ant-Man trying to fly away on the back of an Ant. Now Peter knew the best thing would be to leave as well and pretend he didn't see the tiny Avenger but he needed some things answered, and he didn't see any evidence of the other avengers around. So, he followed.
Ant-Man realized he was being followed; he got the other side of the street. The area was blocked off for construction on a new skyscraper. He started to panic when he saw the person following him was none other than spider-man
Spider-man shot a web nocking Scott off his mount he grew in size running the length of the open space dodging equipment and materials
"Guys Spider-Man, Spider-Man is attacking uff" he tried to call his team for help but was cut off as a web stand catch him in the back he was pulled towards Spider-man who began wrapping him up between the steel supports on the construction site. Ant-Man watched as Spider-man head cocked to the side he slowly crawled on the metal beam looking like a predator inspecting his meal. Ant-man squirmed he tried to press the button to shrink or grow but he was complete immobilized in a web cocoon. he looked down seeing that if he got out of this webbing he would have a long fall, he was completely vulnerable Spider-man moved closer. he looked like he was stocking crawling on all fours, Ant-Man began to scream. Wiggling frantically, he missed Spider-man clutched his head in surprised at the volume of the utter sound of terror but he was petrified.
Spiderman then started laughing Scott looked up at Spider-man sitting on the beam now completely confused why this Man-Spider thing person whatever was laughing? was this what he usually did when he caught his next meal. "ahaha oh man, you should have seen your face dude and your scream what did you think I was goanna do? eat you?. Oh man too funny." Ant Man was completely confused, this was a completely different person from the one the Avengers have encountered before this Spider-man didn't seem as scary laughing as he was.
"You're no-not going to eat me?" He squeaked hating himself for sounding like a scared child "But I'm an ant?"
"I don't carry the theme that far." Spider-man laughed and flipped to where they were face to face hanging from a web upside down. "Hi am spider-man we haven't official met and contrary to popular belief, no I am not a mysterious man-spider behind this mask that eats people for breakfast I'm more of a friendly spider guy who likes to curl up in weds on rooftops and stop bad guys. of course, you Avenger types are in the mood for hunting spiders lately." Spider-man said the last part had a little bite to it which made Ant Man flinch.
"wha-what do you want?" he asked not wanting to look those huge creepy white lenses that seemed to be able to look into your soul.
"To ask some questions on why the Avengers or really SHILED is after me after all these years?" he asked the white lenses narrowing his moved side to side in an almost hypnotic manner. Ant-man gulped.
Then Spider-man touched the side of his mask "Spider-man here…. thanks for the call officer I will be there as soon as I can." Spider-man said touching the side of his mask again with a sigh.
"Never mind, our chat has been cut short but can you relay this message to the rest of the Avengers to leave me alone I am not the bad guy." With that he swung off only then did Ant-man released the breath he was holding he didn't even realize the many voices going off in his head set form the team.
"Are you okay?" Cap stated as the Avengers showed a few minutes later looking at his webbed form suspended in the air upside down.
"a little freaked out but okay." Ant man muttered his limbs were still shaking but he wasn't sure if that was from the nerves or from being hung upside down.
"I guess you are happy he didn't eat you?" Clint chuckled as Tony began melting the webs
"Where is Spider-man now what did he do to you?" Natasha asked her body tense looking to see if the wall crawler was still there, and this was a trap.
"he isn't here anymore he ufph." He was cut off as the last of the webbing was removed and he fell into Caps waiting arms who gently put him back on his feet. Scott steadied himself on the ground and brushed off his suit. "I was walking back from the museum and realized there was a heist so I thought I could help out He showed up after I took out most of the bad guys he chased me here webbed me up and he asked why we were after him"
"What did you tell him?" Sam asked
"Nothing didn't get the chance besides being terrified he got a call on his suit or something and took off but he did tell me to pass on the message to leave him alone." He said; this confused the Avengers
"Wait did you say he got a call what does his phone look like did you see the number?" Tony asked
"Umm he didn't have a phone it was in his suit." Scott said explain how Spidey answered the call by mimicking the move himself.
"Does that mean Spider-man works for someone?" Captain America asked to no one in particular, a little worried what that could mean.
"Not sure he did say officer."
"Let's head back to the tower and discuss this I have some new information anyway." Tony said as he rocked out of the building showering his team in dust.
At the Tower
After Scott told them all what happen for the third time. Now that everyone was present the team sat in silence trying to piece together what was going on.
"Okay that doesn't seem like Spidey." Tony stated flipping thought his tablet off to the side
"I am telling the truth you know." Scott shouted in frustration
"We believe you this also opens up more questions if Spider-Man is working for someone or not." Steve stated going over the information again in his head
"I don't think so Scott here said Spidey said 'Officer' I have been looking into it and it seems that after Spider-man has saved the city a couple of time some of the Police don't hate him and have called him in for back up occasionally."
"They have Spider-Man on speed dial?" Clint asked a little surprised that the web- head would hand out his number when he is so very protective of his identity especially where most of the police force hate him and tend to shoot on sight.
"Tony and I have been trying to find a way to figure out where Spider-man is going to be, or at least where he hangs out. he is all over the city and his speed is incredible we calculated that he is able to go from one side of Manhattan to the other side in less the ten minutes we estimated his speed to be around 85- 100 miles an hour, of course that is just a theory based on observation."
"so he has the same speed abilities as our super soldiers?" Clint asked
"I think he might be faster since he was able to dodge my stingers that or he has some of the fastest reflexes I have ever seen." Nat added thinking it over in her head.
"we also found out that Spider-man has worked with the Police on occasion when they are not trying to arrest him." Bruce added while also nodding in agreement at Natasha's statement.
"So, if I can figure out what his number is I can possibly track him and we can get a hold of him." Tony smiled, getting the conversation back on track. it was unclear if he was excited to have a lead on who Spider-Man's real identity, or if he was excited to have Spidey's number.
"Could you find out who he is with that number." Bucky asked skeptically and a little wary of the phone in his pocket
"Of course, I am a genius after all, tracking a phone ID is a piece of cake." Tony scoffed waving his hand dismissively.
"What else have you found out?" Sam asked making Tony deflate a little as the attention went back to Bruce.
"There was a police officer that worked to bring Spider-man in but one day changed his toon and helped Spider-man out even asked for Spider-man's help on occasion." Bruce said picking up a tablet to pull up the information.
"What was his name maybe he knows who is behind the mask." Clint asked now getting excited to be getting somewhere in this frustrating case
"Unfortunately, the officer died caught in the crossfire between Spider-man and a supervillain." Bruce sighed the mood in the room dropped slightly
"He was the captain of the police force Captain George Stacy the wired thing was his daughter one Gwendolen Stacy also died helping Spider-man when he fought with a super villain several months later." Tony added with a frown wondering how Spider-man felt about the two death and how that was different from him when someone died because of him.
"So, this Stacy family might know who Spider-man is or have some connection to him?" Natasha theorized wonder how Spider-Man was connected to the Stacy family.
"It's possible we were looking into that before we had to save our resident insect." Tony said trying to lighten the mood
"Hey! I didn't ask to get webbed up." Scott whined his face flushed with embarrassment
"This is a good lead Nat, you and Clint go talk with Stacy's widow see what she knows." Steve ordered both spies nodded
"Bruce, Scott and Bucky you three go though all the information we have so far and see if you can find anything that would be helpful"
"don't know how helpful I will be with that." Bucky stated Scott nodded his head in agreement.
"Tony, Sam and I should go to the prisons, interview some of his usual criminals maybe they know something." Steve continued
Tony scoffed "what information do you think a bunch of supervillains and thugs would know that we don't?"
"They fight Spidey on regular basis maybe they picked up on a few things." Bruce said seeing what Steve was thinking. The captain nodded and with that they all went their separate ways to get ready for their separate missions.
Later With Widow and Hawkeye
The Stacy's had moved out of the city, after the death of her daughter she had three young boys as well but after the death of her husband and daughter Clint didn't blame her for wanting to get out the city. It took an hour fight and another hour drive to the address Bruce had given them. The house wasn't anything large just a four-bedroom house in the suburbs. They walked up to the red door, knocking they could hear the commotion of people moving around. A young boy maybe 12 or 13 opened the door
"Hi is your mom home we would like to talk with her." Nat said in a sweet voice
"Mom it is for you!" the boy shouted turning back into the house
"Philip there is no need to shout." Spoke a blond-haired woman looking like she was in her early fortifies
"Hello how can I help you?" she asked looking up at the two avengers
"Are you miss Helen Stacy?"
"Yes"
"We would like to talk to you about Spider-man." At the mention of the masked hero, she frowned and pushed her oldest son further into the house and blocked the door
"I am sorry but I don't have anything to say if you don't mind I have things to do." She said trying to close the door and Nat put her hand on the door
"Mam please we just need to ask a couple of questions I know it must be difficult but I am sure we can make it worth your while." The women thought for a minute finally she sighed and stepped back to let them in "thank you"
"Philip dear could you collect your brothers and head upstairs."
"But mom." The young boy whined
"Now please." She said the boy sighed and headed to the living room where you could see two other boys one looked about 10 and the last one about 7 all with the same golden blond hair.
Inside the house they saw family pictures lining the walls one had a picture of the whole family. Another was of George Stacy in his police uniform next to that was a portrait picture of her late daughter Gwen. "Can I get you anything?" She asked politely leading them to the dining room.
"No thank you we hope not to take up too much of your time." Clint said taking one more glance at the pictures on the wall before they were led to the dining room.
"What was it you wanted to ask." She sighed sitting down at the table
"We wanted to asked what you knew or what they knew about Spider-man?" Nat asked gesturing to the pictures of her late family members
"What makes you think I know anything?" she asked with a raised eyebrow
"We come to understand that both your husband and your daughter knew Spider-man, they had some kind of connection with him and even helped him." Nat asked
Helen Stacy frowned deepened her eyes grew dark and cold "a lot of good that did them they both were killed from Battles Spider-man had with other superpowered people."
"Did they know who was behind the mask?" Clint added pretending he didn't notice the bitter anger in the woman's tone.
"if they did they didn't tell me, honestly I don't know anything about Spider-man or how they got in contact with him. My daughter Gwen probably got ahold of him thought my Husband though."
"Why do you think that?" Clint asked
"My husband was the police chief he had run into Spider-Man before he was the one that tried to arrest Spider-man on occasion and eventually was the one that took down the arrest warrant. my daughter was a smart girl she wanted to be a scientist…" the women's voice trailed off at the thought of her daughter not even out of high school before she died. Clint and Nat shared a look as the widowed mother got a misty look in her eyes as the anger was replaced by sadness.
"Did either of them leave any information about Spider-Man?" Natasha asked after a few minutes bringing Mis Stacy out of her thoughts
"Not that I am awhere of, sadly Gwen didn't tell me she even knew Spider-Man she became distance when her father died but instead of blaming that wall crawler she seemed more invested in that masked man. But I didn't know she was in contact with him until… well until she died." She sighed "Even then I thought she was just caught in the cross fire only where she died was suspicions which lead me to believe she knew the vigilantly" she added looking behind the Avengers to a framed picture of her daughter as if the picture would answer her questions.
"Did she have someone she might have confided in?"
"She did have a boyfriend his name was Peter, Peter Parker." the women said getting up from her seat and took a picture off the wall handing it to Natasha. It was a picture of two teenagers one was obviously Gwen and next to her was a scrawny brown-haired boy his arm was warped around her shoulder and they both looked happy if a little bit awkward.
"Do you know where we could find him?" Clint asked mostly just for the courtesy. They really didn't need this women's help to find one teenage boy with all the spy surveillance tech they had access too
"As far as I know he still attends Midtown high school." She looked at the picture in sadness "he was really broken up after Gwen died…" She cut herself off it looked like she wanted to say something else but thought better of it.
"Did your husband leave any case files about Spiderman we could take a look at?" Natasha asked the women nodded and left the room
"What are you thinking?" Clint whispered
"I think we need to talk with this Peter kid and look though the old case files maybe captain Stacy found out who was behind the mask and somehow his daughter followed in his footsteps." She whispered back. Helen came back into the room with a box of folders in her hands.
"This is everything my husband kept about that masked man feel free to take it if it will help you. I don't need it in the house." She said glaring at the box and wondering why she kept it during the move.
"Thank you mam for your time." Clint said as they both got up to leave.
Several hours later the rest of the Avengers came back to the compound not looking happy only to find Clint and Nat sitting on the floor with case files spread out around them and Bruce and Scott with several more files spread out on the tables and bucky looking bored out of his mind on the couch.
"How did the prison trip go?" Clint asked not looking up from the file he was reading
"a waste of time." Sam grumbled
"Spidey is good I mean he even has his enemies keeping his secrets!" Tony shouted throwing his hands up dramatically and storming into the room the two spies looked up confused but that
"We don't know if they knew anything but Tony is right if they did know anything they weren't telling us." Steve sighed sitting down on the couch next to bucky and was careful not to mess with any of the papers spread throughout the room.
"it was weird half of them thought it was funny we were going after Spider-Man and the other half wanted us to release them so they could go after the wall crawler themselves." Sam sighed also sitting down
"How was your trip you two got back pretty quickly." Steve stated now taking notice of all the files spread out on the floor. "What did you guys find out?"
"Well, these are Captains Stacy's files on Spider-man we have been going through them to see if the captain found anything out about the wall crawler." Clint said holding up the file in his hand
"And?"
"So far nothing it is just about bad guys Spider-Man has taken down or the few times he has helped the police in dealing with enhanced humans. nothing on how he knew spider-man or how he got in contact with him." Nat stated not to mention how their teenage daughter got in contact with the masked menace she thought.
"However, we do have someone else to look into." Clint added
"Really who is that?" Tony asked now getting back into the main conversation
"Well, it turns out Gwendolen Stacy had a boyfriend maybe she confided in him about Spider-man." Clint pointed out handing a piece of paper to Steve
"Or he could be spider-man" Nat muttered
"Then that would mean Spiderman is a 15-year-old boy still in highschooler." Bruce stated with a frown not liking that thought one bit.
"I am just curious how a guy like that got a girl like Stacy to be his girlfriend." Scott said bringing over a copy of the picture of the two teens to the rest of the team could see.
"Let's see what he knows he most likely is not spider-man but he might know something." Clint suggested setting down the file he would rather be doing anything else right now anyway.
"in the mean time we need to come up with other way to get Spider-man." Steve stated with a frown
"wait what we are going after him again didn't you hear what I just said we can try to figure out his secrets without going after him." Tony shouted glaring at Steve. Ignoring a Hey from Clint as he quickly saved the papers Tony was now stepping on.
"We can't take the chance and this might be a good opportunity to find out more about him."
"plus if our little fact finding mission doesn't work we still need him to give up his secrets." Sam added
Tony just grumbled not happy about it. "it seems that us wondering around the city trying to catch him after he is spotted isn't working he is too fast for that and seems to know that were coming."
"True I have been going over all the footage of Spiderman he his every skilled in acrobatics Olympic level if not higher. He is strong seeing that he has lifted cars, a gondola car and even held up parts of a bridge so he might be Cap and Bucky's level of strengths if not stronger. Spider-man doesn't seem to relay on this though focusing on his flips and webbing." Bruce explained showing Video clips of these powers.
"Do we have a way to counteract the webbing?" Sam asked not wanting to be taken as a joy ride by the web head again
"I tried to analyze it but it seems to dissolve in an hour or so and I had to destroy a lot of it freeing all of us when we were stuck with the stuff." Tony sighed "what I have been able to find out thought it is spider silk so it most likely natural and is vulnerable to heat."
"I also might have found a weakness." Bruce continued pulling up another video "Spider-Man seems to get disoriented at loud noises and bright flashing lights." Showing the video of a fight Spider-Man had where there was a loud explosion and strobe lights going off how in that fight it seemed Spider-Man took more time to react to the villain.
"It still seems that he recovers quickly though." Natasha said watching the video replay and counting out the seconds. Many of the videos they have were blurry and shacky so you couldn't be really sure of anything.
"It should be enough time for all of us to surround and capture." Steve suggested
"This better work because I am tired of this." Tony muttered
Three days later
Steve, Tony, Bruce and Natasha went to the school to see if they could take to Parker while everyone else was preparing for their trap to capture Spiderman that night. Tony still wasn't happy with this if his pouting didn't make it painfully clear.
"why do four Avenger need to interrogate one teenager?" Tony grumbled
"I also don't think it was a good idea for me to come along." Bruce stated nervously praying he didn't hulk out in a high school
"well, we did some research there isn't much on this parker kid but the kid is into science so that is why both of you are here and the two of us our here just in case something happens. "Natasha explained in her tone that told you not to argue with her
"are you still thinking this Peter kid could be Spider-Man?" Tony asked not believing it for a second.
"it could still be a possibility." She said not showing her droughts about that
"I personally hope Spider-Man is not a teenager I don't think anyone that young should get into this line of work." Steve stated "our original idea that Spider-Man could be in his early to mid-twenties is also a little concerning" he added more as an after thought
"or are you more upset if Spider-man turns out to be a teenage how you would feel about attacking a kid?" tony asked Steve frowned but didn't respond "Spider-Man's age doesn't really matter right now let's just talk with the kid and get this over with." Tony muttered as he pulled into the schools parking lot.
"Why are all the kids out side it is the middle of the day shouldn't they be in class?" Steve asked
"It is their lunch period" tony stated "look everyone I printed out Parkers schedule so we all go to the office check in and get him called out of class when this period ends okay." He added handing everyone a copy of the kid's schedule.
"Could you at least pretend not to be a pain Stark." Natasha hissed in which Tony responded with a failed glare.
