Chapter 9: Super Till the End of Time
/
Cracked knuckles did no good as Slade walked far behind and admired the shining rock of a value one earth to another could not compare. He'd seen it before, and expected to be entertained again as the Bat had his meeting his acquaintance before the merc had flown to Jump City on a whim. That had been at the start of their days as heroes and war lords and crime Gods. Well, gods among them, still reigned now.
But, underground.
"The big guy is a lil…. uptight around new recruits lately, so you'd better not act like kids in front of him like you did with me. Not you, Rave." Blushed Vixen as she waved on the empath in apology. "Ah, but you two bozos gotta watch it. He's worse than our secretary who hides around. Says he lost his kid…."
Slade's eye looked at her, wide enough to shatter the glass surrounding them. "Was, the child older? Younger? It sounds as if he's not being untruthful to total strangers."
"You got kids, cyclops?"
Slade snorted at Vixen as she turned to him now. "Yes, more than all the kids he could lose, I've lost before a single son."
"You sound like you could talk him through it. He's got no one, but he's a dog against criminals and, whatever those things up there are."
"Demons, lass." John avoided the Lov she seemed to hate. "The came through a portal that we couldn't stop in time. Nobody had a shot at it."
"We were the same, so I guess we've got something in common." Vixen smiled at the group and kept walking. The door there was made of that same clear glowing iconic crystal. Slade and John had to put their arms up to shield themselves as Vixen put up a palm to a rather tall soldier guarding the door. "Hey, Billy. Tell the big guy we've got guests."
"Are…are you sure?? Dude, that's the same wizard who ticked off –
"Hush it. Just go get somebody." She reprimanded Billy as he slouched his shoulders and drifted through the crystal walls. "Ticked?" Raven raised a brow to John. "Not my universe! Don't look at me."
"Somehow, I doubt your story greatly." Slade muttered and crossed his arms over his matted chest. "Why don't we chuck him in the shower, first?"
"Yell need to be tied to the pole and plastered! E Ew! Imma' gonna go out and get you each a decent stall." Vixen held her nose as Raven and John laughed, while Slade refused to in the most part. "The leader of the temporary JLA will see you…. should I stay?"
"New, you go look after the other newbies." Smiled Vixen as Billy shook his head. "I'd better not. They cou -
"They. ARE, heroes." She put her hands to her hips and rebutted. " Trust me."

In the great enclosed walls of this den of two kinds of voices; of former villains under a truce, and of fully bred heroes or made, there was only one to keep them below ground and safe in one pit. To the side, Slade saw a face his eyes did recognize as John growled under his breath. "Stay…"
Slade snorted and just didn't care. If he could, he would side with Lex but later. Right now, this court of order and survival was held up by two men while…while one baffled Raven.
Batman and Superman.
Figures…
The two strongest. Yet Dick had been…then what else had died??
Ra's was off in the corner and brooding; Green Lantern was there and Martian Man Hunter. But…what about Atom? What about the man league members and forces of evil? They were all –
"This party is from Jump, and Johnny says he's from some alternate timeline, right?"
John scratched his beard as the two others had also looked better. Clark Kent and the sophisticated Bruce Wayne. Robin's earliest mentor. "Raven." Clark stood up, but Bruce threw out an arm to steady the teddy bear in him. "I'm glad you're ok, but I know that none of your teammates could have survived the blast." Bruce stated it darkly, even though his costume was…. sorely lacking in apology. "They didn't….and, we were promised a way to fix the world. Through a time, spell. I was –
"Time??" Hal threw in his comment. "That's what we're going with?? Magic that destroyed us to…I don't get any of it but you'd better not be a spy!"
"She's the answer." Slade stepped up and now, Supes has to put his arm out to prevent Bruce from throttling the main antagonist in our tale. "THE TITANS SUFFERED BY YOUR PLANS." Bruce grieved even now. "I won't entrust any of them to you –
"There is no one left, dark knight!" Slade shouted across the table. "Look at your team, look at where they've ended up. Rock. Bottom –
"Robin is dead! -
"Please, blame me." Raven jumped in front of Slade's next outburst. "I…I was a part of the prophecy, the catalyst to end this mess with Trigon. My father –
"We warned you about abusing your powers when you became a Titan." Bruce sat back down. "Why Slade is involved is old news, it all came out in Dick's last files to the league and I put the pieces together. He had something to lose. Slade?"
"I had my flesh and blood. My last hope at a human shell to live again. Trigon offered me a deal and that was the end for us all." The man told the bat. "Raven was my way to that, because her teammate had originally, killed me. Set me aflame in a lava PIT. Which…" He sighed. "I, have forgiven her for it for now to form a truce."
"I don't believe you." Superman now stood to help where he could. "Raven came to us and we, we didn't see the demon in time. It was the Titans that officially gave her safety and peace of mind. You stole that out of your greed and lust for dominance in the same world that forsook your love for bloodshed. I know you, Deathstroke. You won't give up on any target –
"Not until it's stopped moving." Bruce said, the rattle in Raven's head, thrumming. "My task now was to undo my evils –
"You'd go right back once she let you. Did as you said?"
Superman gave Raven a pitying glance. "Let us face Trigon this time. If we can find him and reverse this…you don't have to depend on your enemies."
"Hah, so?" Lex guffawed at the comment. "Did I not try to do a good deed to reduce my sentence, Kent?? I didn't kill a living being to keep our treaty intake until the mess is over! Am I an "enemy," while you still act like you own us all??"
"Lex, please…" The hand of Ra's had the tycoon, flinch. "The bat and I understand. With the death of my own child, we cannot blame who it is we must trust in trying hours like this one. If there is only a name and no title. We are all, rulers without capitals, as I see here before me. So, let that ego due so that others may live after our possible losses…we have many, and more to come." Ra's looked to Bruce with more sympathy than he needed. "As you were, Superman. Wayne."
/
"We'll have to know what it is you are searching for first." Bruce waited for Slade to nod to his request, his demand. "If I forsake my reason at any time, it will be because this battle cannot be won. Very well." Slade shrugged and went to remove his own face coverings. John put a hand to his eyes as he knew that pompous title holding heroes and villains were not nurses or grave keepers. They saw bodies, but in a blink at best.
Slade, was the raw picture of greed and desires lost to them all as the whole room stopped.
/
"He cursed himself to die!" Ra's was superstitious and highly angered by one of his former own going against the powers of demon culture. He berated more than any had seen as Bruce too wanted to become a monkey and start flinging shit in Wilson's direction. Yet, Ra's did tire as he lastly got out his sword. A dull wooden play thing until Bruce realized that he wasn't well. In fact.
He could be infected.
"Have him restrained. Marvel?"
Vixen moved in to see to Raven and the others while Bruce got his sample in time. The blinking device soon stopped, and for the first time….
The Batman took the life of his last conscious hope.
"He was in our last fight with some Trackers."
Slade turned his head to the billionaire. "Here?? In this city??"
"In the park. We went for rations. It got hazy." Marvel was scolded by Vixen after that as he reverted to the body of a twelve-year-old boy. "Billy. You are in so much trouble, lil man. Get over here!"
"It wasn't my fault!" He winced. "The Trackers scratched him and then got ta' Canary…we should have never tried to go to the park. It was crawling with demon shit –
" Billy!"
"So, Canary was a victim to them, not the spiders."
"Spiders?" Hal gulped. "They hatched again?? We just killed a dozen more! Shit !"
"Say, shite." John suggested. "Sounds less, bloody poetic."
"Poor Dinah…after Oliver too…" J'honn was tapped on the shoulder and hushed. It looked to be Bruce again, mourning internally the loss of enemy and ally alike. "If he stays that negative, you'll attract yourselves a demon." John sighed. "Humans and their logic. I though like you' lot, then gave up on it. Too much to take from us, including bloody bonds."
"You, don't have any back in your world." Raven wondered quietly to him. "Not really. Everything else, does before I have time to pester it to death, myself." He chuckled and look to the bosses. "Have a shower stall for each of us, blokes?"
/
Raven dropped off her clothing into a plastic bag and ignored that it was not all trash. She'd hoped to have new things to wear. No matter how…. feminine. The lather in her scalp was nothing extraordinary to a normal person living like a mole in a bunker. But to Raven….it was…
She let out a sigh and forgot time and space for those ten minutes of bliss.
Ten, to save on water. Ten, for each to just get the grime out with a hot spray. Many of the aliens here were agoraphobia. Including Lex. She towered off and even found a newly rung top and…was that, Vixen's?
She was no big mama down low, but…. she made it stay with the will of her very magical essence. And her youthful figure, besides that. Vixen had to be a year apart, yet they were sort of ...there in height. She slipped on the boy shorts and black jean leggings. Tight…but it came with a coverage that was well appreciated. The top was a grey hoodie. She gave her thanks and left, the other to come out being a rather aloof John C with his towel still round his waist. Raven flicked a finger in annoyance and he ended up back in the stall to change into another plain button up and tie with khakis. How John loathed American business casual. "WHY haven't we taken over yet?" He groaned and wallowing in too much fabric.
"Don't blame the tailor just yet." Slade was escorted with his outstretched sweater and scarf for his face a bit…. nothing compared to the jogger pants. Bruce, figures.
"No…is that Armani??"
"SHUT IT, JOHN." Slade reared his eye up to quiet the magi.
"All of you, look…" Lex stepped over from the door as he eyed John the most. "At least it was better than the swim suits they used to put on new comers for decontamination…you look, ready to discuss more about the plan. I, for one could care less of " lesser" middle class fashion clothing lines…. ugh. Horrid stuff."
"The prophecy." Raven corrected. "And, we all are. Mostly."
"I have to add that we lower – class scum of the earth wear' a cleaner suit than the red one he has pressed an waitn' for ya, Lexi!" John sneered with a snicker at the capitalist pig from the states. "We're here to save the world – not to look good while doing it." Slade snorted at both men – children. "Raven, what do you know about your connection to your father's influence. Maybe we could turn this around to confront it. You could overturn it if –
"NO."
"As light!" Slade shouted as the room rattled by his voice.
John snorted and rolled his eyes. "That wasn't Deathie bringin' the house down with him."
" I can sing, but never an octave that disastrous." (They are teasing a bit because they all have deep voices.) Lex looked up. "Has to be those web crawling freaks!" He ran to find his allies. "They're breaking through, finally!"
