Author's Note: Look who's back! Yes, me! Fresh from the grave!

I would like to apologize for the veeeeeeeeeeeery long hiatus. I'm sure that very few are waiting for this fic but it's back nonetheless. Hey, I even bought a new laptop just for this!

Anyway, I'm currently editing the earlier chapters. I've finished until chapter 9. I unfortunately can't fix much but I'll try my best because... it was so hard to read! How did you guys even managed to get to this chapter? Amazing!

Also, please do not expect any emotional growth from me or this fic. I had lived for many years before remembering I was no longer 18. Don't believe me? Then read this fic all over again. You'll see the writing of a forever 13-year-old.

To those who were still waiting, no amount of words would be enough to express my undying gratitude. I'll let off the emojis for the next chapter which could be a month from now (please let me finish editing first). For now, please enjoy!

Chapter 31

Retribution

Dawn was almost upon the spacious grounds and the imposing edifice of the Kuran Royal Family but what the first rays of light would shine upon was not on the normal magnificence and elegance that it usually held. Instead, the new day dawned upon charred trees and bushes, destroyed marble statues, cracked pathways and ash-covered castle grounds. The traces of ash and sooth still hung in the air. The echoes of cries and despair still loud in the almost emptied halls. The eerie atmosphere still haunted the occupants busily attending to the cleaning of the mountains of corpses and ashes but despite it all, the most prominent trace of what had transpired was the scent of blood and carnage in the air.

The betrayal and sense of loss painted such a dreary color to the overall state of the Kuran Castle. With the consort and his twin brother in such a state of unconsciousness, all of the attendants and nobles were in a right state of fright.

The Vampire King hadn't left his beloved's side, a gloomy air surrounded him. Anguish and anxiety were almost visible around the somber pureblood's surrounding that no one quite dared to approach him. All the attendants tensely waited outside the door for any demand but that alone seemed to weigh their hearts even when their liege was never known for any volatile temper. But given the circumstances, his silence was even more frightening than any shouting or violent show of anger. The sight of his back was enough to deter any creature from coming close. It didn't help that the little princes and princess had already left and were no longer there to console him for they were occupied with their continuous and multiple reassurances of their eldest sister's safety to the youngest of them.

Inside the spacious room of their sleeping quarters, russet eyes unfalteringly stared at his lover's handsome features but for once, none of his beauty could calm the swirling pandemonium inside his heart. Without the welcomed distraction of his children, there was no stopping the gloomy thoughts from infesting the normally astute mind of the Vampire King. The realization of his failures and his inability crushed his heart like nothing else did. The unbearable fear that was currently gripping his heart at the thought of his eldest child's current condition choked him that he was barely able to breathe. The only thing that seemed to hold the last bit of his sanity were the facts that his mate was still well and their other children were safe. The poison in his blood started to be cleared out at last.

However, he knew the storm that would descend upon him once his silver hunter awakened. Not that he would stop him for he knew how warranted any beatings or reproach he would receive from him. Not only did he kept things from him, he still failed to protect their children and still allowed Zero to be endangered.

For once, the heavy awareness of his failure severely struck him, leaving him breathless.

Out of the things that happened, his eldest princess' kidnapping caused him the most dread. Objectively, he knew that Rido would have kept her safe if only as bait to lure him and Zero out but with how she was last seen according to his youngest son, coupled with what Seiren reported to him regarding a certain hunter's confession, he couldn't help but worry. As much as he would have wanted to storm off without care to wherever that vile monster was and retrieve his child, he knew it would be useless. He had thought that fighting Rido in his own domain would have done something to lessen the monster's hold on him but even after everything, it was all for naught.

Fury and frustration continued to rain down on him. Grasping the sheets in an unforgiving grip did nothing to lessen his self-hate and overall rage. The fabric was already tearing when the form on the bed slowly stirred. Finally having something positive to look forward to for after what had seemed to be an unbearable eternity, light returned to worried garnet eyes. The brunette got up from his position on the armchair by the large bed only to sit beside Zero and eagerly awaited the most welcomed sight of lavender eyes opening at last.

"Zero." The Vampire King reverently whispered.

Dark silver lashes quivered as the silverette tried and failed to fully open his eyes. A soft whimper escaped soft lips before he tried again. It took him a minute more but finally, eyes opened to reveal beautiful amethyst orbs. Unfocused they may be, but Kaname thought they were blessings that signaled the start of his redemption.

"Zero." Kaname whispered once more, trying to stir his mate from his dazed state. He knew the moment recollections overcame his lover for panic, anguish and rage filled those beautiful eyes.

"Anne!" He sat with a shout, not quite registering the comfortable bed he was in. "No!" Breathing heavily, the silver head instinctively turned from side to side. Panicked orbs scanned the room, ignoring the terrible vertigo and anxiety-fueled beatings of his heart. He was so distraught that he belatedly registered the concerned voice of his lover seeking his attention.

The moment the silver hunter registered the handsome visage that not even anxiety, rage or grief could conceal, he felt that forgotten fury directed to his bastard of a lover. Expressive violet eyes at once were filled with violent fire. Dark silver brows met as ethereal features arranged themselves to express overpowering outrage. The servants outside the room trembled when they heard the blaring roar of their king's mate and perceived the violent aura of a powerful vampire hunter.

"KANAME!" Zero took hold of his mate's collar. Rage and adrenaline instantly dispelled the last of the hazy spell. With blood ringing in his ears, he felt like his voice would tear his own eardrums apart but he could hardly care. He only felt his voice wasn't loud enough to reveal even half of his resentment to the traitor in front of him. "You fucking bas-,"

Before he could even start, his tirade and a mountain of curses he wished to express were halted, however, when he perceived the heartbreak and pain lancing the Vampire King that were only reflected in the deep pools of burgundy and that pulsing bond that he could sense at last. Immediately, he knew what happened and his body trembled at the memory his selfish mate finally let him see. He was assaulted with overwhelming emotions; of immense anxiety and agony, of torturous self-loathing and regret, of harrowing guilt and shame. And ultimately, of maddening hatred and murderous intent. He was at a lost on what to do first. He could only roar in anger, felt the burning behind his eyes and throat as humiliating tears he couldn't really care to stop fell at his helplessness. Silver head fell weakly on one firm shoulder though the unforgiving and trembling grip on his lover's clothes only got tighter still.

The fact that he had failed his little girl resounded painfully loud and clear.

"Forgive me, Zero. It was all my fault." Kaname whispered in full remorse, gentle lips landing an apologetic kiss on one pale temple of the weakly slouching hunter. A hand on the trembling but no less strong grip on his collar while the other softly caressed the silver locks in an effort to calm his beloved. It was all he could do after all. He knew his faults and powerlessness. His incompetence led them to the current situation and there was nothing he wouldn't do to reverse it.

The silver hunter knew that arguing with his mate wouldn't improve the situation. He could only bite his lips. The fear he could feel from the normally astute vampire was slowly drawing away the resentment that he didn't want to let go just yet. He wanted to shout that it was indeed this faithless bastard's fault. If only he had let him know. If only he trusted him enough to let him in on their plans. There were so many things he wished they did differently but now, they could only bitterly regret it.

Deep down, he also knew that he shared part of the blame. He knew something was amiss. Why didn't he insist on knowing? If only he let go of reservations and confronted his mate, this might not have happened. He should have known that this fool would have kept everything to himself. Why did he even decide to part with his mate knowing there was imminent danger ahead? He knew that he couldn't help his reactions to the events, that he wouldn't have been able to abandon his fellow hunters. But even so, why was he so stupid? So foolish? So weak?

"We'll get her back." Kaname whispered with steely determination. "I promise you."

There was no response from the hunter for long time. It was only after the tremors from the pale body had calmed down that the silverette had finally let go of his hold on the poor fabric. With conviction that wouldn't allow another failure on their part lighting a fire in his lavender eyes, he gritted in a heated voice. "Of fucking course, we will. I'll make it happen."

Seeing a semblance of the creature he fell in love with, Kaname couldn't help the small smile of relief that drew itself on his lips. He knew that he was far from being completely forgiven but it was enough to see that familiar fire light those amethysts.

Silver-lavender orbs stared unseeing at the opulence that could be viewed from one of the luxurious parlors of their castle. Eyes blind to the presently blooming flowers in one of the expansive gardens. Ears deaf to the lively commotion happening near him. Long arms hugged himself despite the warmth in the room.

The silver consort's countenance remained tense and impassive as he stood in front of a ceiling to floor window. Unaffected despite the drama in the form of his nieces and nephews pacifying a certain silver genius lamenting being left behind by his traitorous cousins who embarked on such an exciting journey by themselves.

After emerging from his laboratory, which was for some reason commissioned by his royal uncle far away from the main castle, to spread news of his latest success and show off his masterpiece, the little silverette learned of his royal cousins' betrayal. Had he known that that little excursion would end up as it did, he would have left his experiments and joined them! He knew that the breakthrough he would experience wouldn't have been the last. Of course, it wouldn't. It hadn't been the first and wouldn't have been the last given his accomplishments!

To think he missed such an amusing, probably once in a lifetime adventure! The little cherub had been in a state of depression ever since. Not even the lavish attention of his beloved otou-chan, the additional funds his gracious father gave him, the overwhelming kindness of his baby sisters, the billions he earned from his latest inventions and patents, the fortune given to him by his numerous investors or the arrival of his younger cousins for their break from the Academy could lift the despondent silverette's spirits. He was insensible to the appeasing pats on his back by a gentle-looking green-eyed brunette who had just come back from Cross Academy or the cake and tea served to him by his angel-like sisters. Urgh! The regret!

"Zero." The Vampire King who entered the room gave the gathering of heaven-like beauties a glance. Having known what the commotion was about, he left them to fuss about the unusually depressed silver inventor under the fond eyes of his parents and instead went to his quiet mate. One hand was automatically on the beautiful creature's lower back while lips found a pale temple. It was testament of his hunter's preoccupation that he did not even huff at this display and even unconsciously leaned in his half-embrace. Burgundy orbs softened even more for he knew the feelings infesting his husband. "Everything would be fine, my love. They would be safe and soon would be back in our embrace."

"Not without struggling." The hunter whispered. Amethysts eyes closed when the lovely view outside was replaced by the sight of the charred and devastated wreckage their enemies from decades ago left on the castle ground. As if being transported back to the time that gave him so many nightmares, he felt the bleak atmosphere once more. The scent of iron and death assailed his nose. The frantic movements of their servants and allies who tried to right things resounded once again. He shuddered when the freezing chill of that winter air accompanying the dread he felt back then penetrated his bones.

The unconscious shivers that built up was made better by the sturdy arms that fully embraced the distressed consort. And loathe as he was to show his weakness even after all these years, Zero couldn't help but bury his face on one firm shoulder. "I want them back, Kaname." He groaned and insisted even though he knew that even his ever so mighty husband was powerless to grant him what he so desperately wished. He just wanted his angels back in his arms and soon.

"I know, my love. Just be patient for a while more." The brunette gently whispered though it was unneeded given that their previous company was already gone. Their loyal subjects had already quietly and expertly left the royal couple with their children in tow to grant them some privacy.

Long arms constricted to further support his beloved husband despite the torment he himself felt at the remembrance of that particular miserable chapter in their life. Kaname blamed himself for so long at the tragedy that befell them then. More often, during the quiet mornings whenever his auburn orbs would fall on the lovely creature in his embrace after a peaceful slumber, he would be in disbelief that they managed to ever survive the harrowing trials of that time. Had anything been slightly different then, he may have never been graced by the wondrous vision he was enjoying now and the very thought would send torrents of unease down his spine. They had been extremely lucky.

The Vampire King allowed himself a few more moments to feel the welcomed warmth of his fair husband before wine-colored orbs found the expensive calendar left by one of his subordinates as they contemplated the possible return date of their royal princes and princesses. While their daughter could jump to any time she would like with her powers, it would give her lesser burden if she were to come back to her present time after mirroring the length of the one spent in the past. Given how everyone in his circle knew just how long his children spent with them, they had already pinpointed the most possible date of their return in order to provide the best welcome.

For vampires like them who had lived for so long, it shouldn't be considered long. Yet, somehow, it couldn't arrive soon enough.

As if reading his thoughts, his mate reminded him of something very important. "They're all grounded when they returned." The silver hunter growled, finally regaining some of his fire back.

The pureblood had to smile at the recollection of the promise they gave their troublemaking children decades and decades ago. He hummed in agreement. "Of course."

About an hour after the silver hunter woke up, the Vampire King's most loyal subjects were at once summoned. Kaien and Kaito also came despite their injuries. The latter even threatened to just storm the Hunter Association if he was not let in on their new plans.

The royal children were left in the bedchamber they occupied while calming their youngest brother. After their parents saw them passed out in one large bed, still cuddled together in one small pile of short arms and tight embraces, they were hesitant to further involve them even while knowing that these little seraphs would not allow themselves to be excluded once they woke up. Only chaos awaited should anyone even try to forbid them from retrieving their sister.

The weary figures of the vampires and hunters who were all exhausted physically, mentally and emotionally slowly filed in the room. Yet, despite the fatigue that could be clearly seen around their eyes, fire of adrenaline and determination still filled them. No amount of weariness could give them rest. All hankered to do something to amend their current situation.

Burgundy orbs watched the illuminated conviction in the several pairs of eyes with satisfaction. He knew that he had chosen his companions well.

The heavy discussion was done after a light meal and other refreshments were served for although no one had the appetite, it was clear that everyone needed the sustenance. While their hearts still felt heavy in their chests, all knew that they needed the strength in order to continue.

One by one, the vampires reported the current progress of the countermeasures they had made, as well as the present state of affairs in the castle, their remaining guests and captives. The imprisoned humans were already brainwashed. The nobles didn't even need to expel much effort for the process was made easy with the help of their young silver prince's bloodstone which was provided by the Kuran heir. The remaining traitors from some of the remaining relatives of the Council of Ancient were taken care of by the Aido family and the other noble families who were extremely loyal to the pureblood king. They even stated the extent of the damage done in the castle though it was low in their set of priorities.

The hunters then reported the state of affairs on their end. While almost every hunter on their side were grievously injured, fortunately, no one had died. However, it was clear that they couldn't expect much support from them. The knowledge that they were still unable to contact one famed black hunter had further killed Zero's and the other two hunters' appetite.

However, the information regarding Ichiru's stable though still unconscious condition marginally lifted their mood. The younger silverette was under the careful watch of the Aido family. Those with no permission and were not part of the Vampire King's inner circle were not allowed to come close. It was reported that the transformation had fully completed without any accidents. They were only waiting for the younger Kiryū's awakening. Hanabusa was promptly put in charge of watching over the silverette and supporting him.

The air that had turned lighter strained once more at the report of a certain silver-lavender haired vampire who at that moment arrived. After being given entrance by the Vampire King, Seiren respectfully went on one knee beside the pureblood to provide her report. She was tasked of gathering more intel about their enemies' next move and the current state of affairs outside the Kuran Castle.

"I have arrived, Kaname-sama, Zero-sama." She greeted her lieges, tone still even despite the terrible news she had to impart.

"What have you found?" The pureblood asked without preamble. He knew that his hunter and everyone present wanted to know the overall condition of their present plight.

"The Hunter Association had taken a defensive stance, my lord. All the other hunters under the current president's command were called back. They could be seen patrolling the premises of the association fully armed and expecting an attack."

This bit of news had the other hunters in the room frowning in disbelief. Did that fucking freak and all those despicable bastards actually forsaken their duties for personal reasons? Did they think that the level-Es they hunt would simply disappear? What about their oath to protect humans? The hunters had found themselves severely outnumbered precisely because they couldn't risk letting their personal affairs endanger humans. Apparently, their sacred vow and missions were a mere joke to that crossdressing pillock.

The female vampire continued to talk once more, deepening the frowns decorating every creature's forehead. "Rumors about vampires' existence were also running rampant in the mortal society. The news of a large number of human disappearances were all over and it seems that danger of exposure is high. The information was leaked by a number of vampires and hunters."

Several curses and sound of fists connecting with hard wood from the hot headed individuals in the room resounded at the news. Their enemies had truly been unscrupulous with their action.

"The number of level Es sighted had increased. I had taken the liberty to take care of some of them but it is expected the number would continue to rise later on."

"You've done well, Seiren." The Vampire King quietly praised despite the fury that filled every pore of his being.

Of course, his loathsome uncle wouldn't mind their race's exposure to the human society. Hadn't he always abhorred the fact that beings as glorious as himself were forced to skulk in the shadows like shameful creatures? Hadn't he always valued the superiority of their class over the cattle-like and foolish mortals who were mere food and source of entertainment to them? These ideals had ultimately earned him the loyalty of the numerous vampires who had also deplored the idea of hiding.

Regardless of their wishes however, the Vampire King would never let their plans be realized. He would not allow the disclosure of their race. Aside from the obvious chaos it would generate, not only it would definitely endanger them, he was sure that more foolish mortals would want to be turned in an attempt to be forever young, beautiful and powerful like the silly myths and medias circulated amongst them. Utterly clueless to the true dangers and madness that being turned would bring them. It would very well lead to the extinction of one of the races.

"What of Rido?" The pureblood asked at length, cutting short the colorful expletives that came from some the room's occupants, sure that Seiren would be able to learn of his whereabouts. He was certain that he wouldn't even try to cover his tracks. After all, wasn't he openly inviting Kaname to follow him by taking his precious daughter with him?

"He retreated to one of Ichijou Asato's hidden mansions, Kaname-sama."

A hush enveloped their solemn group at the revelation. They had all known of the old man's treachery so they were not surprised. Being the head of the Council of Ancients, they were all sure that he had aided Rido in every attack and conspiracy. It only put to mind what it could possibly mean for one of their own.

Uncharacteristically alert blue-gray orbs found the silent form of his dorm mate. Even though he himself might be in hot waters for being directly related to the threat, it didn't stop the trepidation that rudely intruded his heart. Only his trust in his exalted cousin's fairness prevented him from outright talking in defense of one Ichijou Takuma.

The collected breath of the Night Class hitched once their pureblood leader spoke once more. "It is now then official that the Ichijou Family have rebelled against the crown."

The sound of the quiet voice made the pureblood princess panic. The food that she had been unable to finish because of her absent appetite completely forgotten at the possibilities that could happen.

"O-onii-sama! T-that-," Yuki immediately tried to intervene, fearing for her love. But before she could even voice her protests or say anything in defense of her boyfriend, her brother continued on.

"Bring me Ichiou's head in order to prove your house's loyalty." Kaname ordered, his tone final.

The blonde noble looked up at his liege, unsurprised by the order for he knew it was coming. He knew that more than to show proof of loyalty, it was merely an explicit order to the tie loose ends with his own hand. Unlike his girlfriend, he was unafraid for his safety. He had long trusted his friend with his life and knew that his loyalty wouldn't be questioned even though he had relations with a traitor. He was just being given leave to do what he long to do since forever ago.

"Understood, Kaname-sama." Ichijou Takuma received his order without batting an eyelash, addressing his friend formally in order to show his seriousness and deference. His expression that was devoid of any of his usual foolish smile was replaced by a calming one the moment he turned to the worried female pureblood whose apprehension was etched allover her ethereal face. "It's alright, Yuki-chan. It will be over soon."

"S-senpai…" Yuki whispered, near tears already. She never did like that old aristocrat especially now that she knew he was in cahoots with her bastard of an uncle but to kill your own family with your own hands was still too cruel for her. She didn't want to go against her dearest brother's wishes but she was immensely afraid of the burden this order would place in her beloved's heart and conscience.

Takuma, knowing exactly what was going on with his darling princess' mind had to smile at her kindness and purity. Even during such dark and stressful times, she was still thinking about him and his wellbeing. It was enough for him to go through any kind of torture for her. Not that the task was particularly burdensome for he certainly felt no love for that creature who only sought to pull him down. But he was not about to say that out loud. Instead, he smiled more warmly and assured her. "I'm really fine, Yuki-chan. Don't worry. Just wait for me here."

The brunette opened her mouth to speak but know no words would make the situation better. She wanted to offer her help but knew that as she was right then, she was merely going to be a burden than any real help. And surely, knowing her gentle senpai, he wouldn't want her to be present when he carried out this order. Had the situation been reverse, she surely wouldn't want this gentle and warm person to see her take another creature's life, no matter how hateful that person was. She nodded her assent finally, and with a smile that felt brittle on her face, she whispered, "I'll be waiting for your return."

At length, their gathering was once again interrupted by the arrival of the newly awakened children. The little angels, still obviously despondent, immediately ran to their parents who welcomed them with open arms.

Little silver heads buried themselves on the hunter's arms. Pale, small hands clutched Zero's shirt as they looked for comfort in his scent while somber brunettes quietly settled on the Vampire King's lap and tight embrace. Kaname knew they were still immensely distressed when they uncharacteristically clung to him, deep frowns and grief-stricken orbs unsuitable on their seraphic faces.

"We want to go with you, chichiue." Softly muttered the oldest of the four children. They couldn't let themselves sit silently to wait for news. The children knew that their parents had already expected this but were still immensely relieved when they all heard a hum of acquiescence.

"I understand, my dear." Four pairs of small hands tightened their grip on their parents.

"We will get nee-chan back, right?" Akira whispered, for once sedate and hesitant.

"Of course." Kaname once again answered, arms constricted protectively around the older twins.

It was then decided that their group would split to face the adversaries all at once. Except for Ichijou who had been given a separate quest and Yuki who was to remain in the castle to protect it together with the other allied noble households, the others would strike a preemptive attack on the Hunter Association and Rido while the others would swiftly and secretly clean the level Es to avoid their exposure to the mortal community.

Kaname and Zero together with the twin brunettes, Ruka and Kain would go to where Rido was to kill him and retrieve their precious princess. Despite the number, they deemed the level E extermination to be less of a threat so the silverette twins together with Seiren and Rima who were both agile with the support of some of the vampires from the loyal houses would be the ones to stealthily wipe them out. The task of handling the hunters, especially the president, were left on Shiki and Hanabusa. They would be guided by Kaien and Kaito who knew the secret passages of the association.

Other arrangements were settled before the party broke to rest and make final preparations for the inevitable time. While there was little cheer to be felt even after the resolving some of the more urgent issues, all where more in stable state of mind as each found a purpose.

They swore that this time, they would not fail.

Solemn sapphire gaze fell on the slumbering silverette as gentle hands wiped the pale skin with a warm, wet towel. It was unneeded for his lover had already been cleaned and washed. His earlier blood-soaked suit was already replaced by soft, comfortable loungewear by the valets under the watchful scrutiny of his own father. Still, he needed something to do with his hands. He couldn't even rest despite the respite given to them. He doubted he could. Not until he could see beautiful amethysts look at him once more.

His superfluous action only halted when he felt his lover stir.

The silverette obviously had no idea what happened to him after that terrifying moment when he thought he would lose that which he held very dear in his heart. All that he knew was that he was dying. He didn't think what to expect once he woke up again nor thought he ever would with how quick death worked to claim him. However, the moment he felt conscious, he instantly had an inkling.

He felt drowned by the sensations even before amethysts orbs opened. Shapely lips couldn't help but expel a soft groan made in response to the overwhelming impressions that assailed him. Even without the sense of sight, the fair creature still staggered at the devastating sensations lambasted by his newly formed vampire senses.

Pale skin felt the fibers and threads that made up the loungewear he was clothed in and the duvet and bedspread that surrounded him. He was almost itchy at feeling the wool, cotton and silk that touched his skin.

Despite the overall gloom of the Kuran Castle, ears still sensitive because of the recent transformation could nevertheless hear the careful steps of the working staff, the murmured conversations of the guests confined in their quarters, the chilling winter wind imperceptibly hitting the window panes, the rustling of the dried leaves and above all, the heartbeat and gush of blood in the veins of the Adonis he knew was sitting near him.

All at once, the scent of the incense used in his room, the wood in the chimney, the material of his clothes and bedding, the oils and products used on his hair, the refreshments served in the room invaded his olfactory receptors. However, what overpowered all these, even the still present smell of metallic blood and fumes of burning from outside the room, was the natural scent that could only belong from his one and only; cool like mint, snow and lemon with a hint of musk, cedar wood, paper and ink.

Lavender orbs finally opened and he had to groan once again once striking and intense brightness abused his visual faculty. Ichiru didn't know that vision could ever be this clear. To think that he once celebrated not needing his glasses anymore. Vampires would have certainly pitied him had they known. Now, however, the sharp-sightedness could only give him grief for all the headache it was giving him.

However, more than the barrage in his senses, what gave the silverette the most anxiety was the stab of something troubling at the back of his throat. What accompanied these overwhelming sensations was the strain of something he only heard about. That which was awakened in response to the desire that sat deep inside his heart.

He once asked Yuki how she felt when she had reawakened as a pureblood. She described in detail how she felt and struggled. He remembered sympathizing with her but he clearly didn't understand a shred of the tremendous effort his adopted-sister exercised when she told him about the first time she smelled Ichijou-senpai. He didn't know it would be this laborious to contain the thirst that caught him totally off-guard.

He had to once again send his praises to that midget sister of his. She had really outdone herself. If she experienced this arduous battle that was surely multiplied even more given her exalted lineage without succumbing to it, then she deserved more compliments.

The silverette never thought that curbing bloodlust would be this painful and onerous.

"Ichiru?"

The deep voice that called his name still sounded so euphonious even to his sensitive ears. Unfortunately, however, it only added to the allurement that assaulted him the moment he smelled his ambrosial scent.

Amethysts eyes opened once again to fall on the concerned visage of his most precious treasure.

Yes, that temptation incarnate.

The tug of something positively compelling drew him to the blonde. His blood sang to him, seducing him further and without remorse.

Despite attempting to control the urges that shamelessly reared their humiliating heads, his newly acquired fangs still lengthened.

He now knew what Yuki meant by yearning for everything that a person was.

He now knew that his desire for this vampire was even more than he initially thought.

He wanted all of him. From the things that he would gladly offer to the things he would tightly guard.

Everything.

Guilt flooded him, though it didn't manage to curb his thirst, at the greedy and selfish thoughts that permeated him.

"Ichiru." Hanabusa repeated when his lover didn't answer. He knew the troubles that his angel must have been experiencing. Though he couldn't fully understand them as a born-vampire, he had heard about their princess' experience when she reawakened her pureblood side and read entries about such situations. While he didn't know how to assuage Ichiru's overwhelmed senses, he at least knew how to help with his bloodlust. As his lover and the person who begged for his beloved's change, he should have the responsibility, no, the privilege of feeding his beloved. "Drink my blood, Ichiru."

The declaration was met by flustered and wide lavender eyes. Ichiru agitatedly sat up and shook his head, afraid that his thirst was so blatant. "Hana, I,"

"It's alright. What you're feeling is normal. We're lovers. Rather, I would be anxious if you didn't feel the desire to drink my blood." A reassuring smile lighted on the face of the stunning vampire. A gentle hand cupped his angel's face while a finger parted his lips to probe a fang. Despite his confidence that his Ichiru would love no one but him, an inaudible sigh of relief still escaped from him once he felt the point of the tooth that had expectedly lengthened.

"But," Ichiru tried to reason with him but found it difficult with the finger in his mouth. Before he could even form another word, the finger disappeared. Another hand drew his head closer to the vampire who sat very near him. Before he could even calm his racing heart, amethysts were already blinking at the creamy skin of the noble's neck.

"Drink. It would help restrain your bloodlust." Hanabusa further urged, softly murmuring instructions on how to gently pierce skin and suck out blood. A gentle arm embraced the trembling silverette. He hoped he could teach him in a more sedate manner but their current predicament didn't allow him to slowly teach his sweet darling the important information all newly turned vampire must know. All he could do with their limited time was make sure that his dearest Ichiru would not suffer the torment of that infernal thirst ever so present in their kind.

After a few more whispered assurances and persuasions, finally, hesitant fangs softly cut his flesh. The blonde had to rein in the shudder of delight at the sensation of feeding his one and only. He would never admit it to anyone, not even to his reliable cousin, but he had dreamt of what this exact moment would feel like multiple times. It had been part of his normal and unconscious teenage dreams as well as his conscious daydreams during his private time. While the circumstances that led the moment was not pleasant, he couldn't deny the relief that he had finally allowed to permeate him at the amazing fact that his sweet Ichiru was now there as a vampire, alive and well.

The hand that held his lover's head closed around the silken threads of starlight hair. Hanabusa distracted himself from familiar dangerous thoughts that instantaneously surfaced with the delight and carnal hunger produced by the intimate action. As much as he would like to proceed to the next action that was normal after feeding between lovers, it was unfortunately inappropriate given their circumstances. Not to mention, he would need to prepare for their departure soon. He would rather not face his soon-to-be brother-in-law's Bloody Rose. He was sure that their pureblood king would not protect him.

And so, after the shy fangs retracted and a wet appendage deliciously licked the punctures until they closed, in spite of the difficulty of ignoring those beckoning ruby orbs, Hanabusa quietly held the lovely face between his hands. Instead of a kiss that he would normally administer, he somberly imparted the dire situation. Apologetic cerulean orbs watched as the haze of the feeding immediately left disbelieving lilac orbs. The pale angel weakly trembled in his arms after he had fully conveyed all that had happened and plans that were made.

"Anne-chan?" Incredulity colored the silverette's shaking voice. "How's my brother?"

"As well as you could probably imagine."

Ichiru winced. He was sure that his twin had gone ballistic. He was already surprised that he didn't directly storm out of the place or outright punched the Vampire King. It must have taken tremendous self-control to sit down and hear out the other side. That he managed to go through the whole planning and even allow the current break were evidences of how much his brother had changed. "I-," The silverette started, an offer of help at the tip of his tongue.

"You're going to stay here to protect the castle and keep an eye on the other nobles with Yuki-sama." Hanabusa immediately interjected, knowing fully what would come out of those soft lips.

"Hana, I can fight." Dark silver brows met at his lover's firm words.

"Ichiru, things would be different now that you're a vampire. Do you think that you'll be able to control your strength so readily? It would require you more time than what the current situation would allow." The noble stubbornly shook his head. Even if he was given enough time, he still couldn't allow his Ichiru to be near fatal dangers. Never again.

At those words, Ichiru hesitated a bit. He knew the importance of fully ascertaining one's abilities and limitations before a fight, but he felt useless being unable to participate when it was clear that all needed to be hands-on. While he was given a part, he knew that the chances of the castle being attacked again were slim to none. It was surely the reason why he was being left behind and that didn't sit well with him. "But I'm sure that I can… help…"

Hanabusa understood his lover, of course. He had fallen for the raging fire of life that refused to be snuffed out no matter. But how could he possibly endanger this exquisite being again? Immediately resorting to underhanded and low blows, he asked, "Did you know how I felt when I saw that bullet hit you?"

As expected, the silverette tensed. Pearly teeth unconsciously bit soft pale lip. "I'm sorry Hana. I couldn't help it." Ichiru apologized though his voice was steadfast. How could he have done anything otherwise? "You know I would have done the same thing even if it happened again."

At this declaration, hardened sapphires flashed with genuine and terrible rage. True, he had put the accident at the back of his mind. Hanabusa didn't want to remember the details of that nightmare but those words reawakened the insurmountable anguish he felt at the thought that he was very close to losing that which he cherished more than his own life.

It was like being back on that cold, hard floor with the imminent danger of an incensed pureblood so apparent in the air. His heart beat fast and his mind raced a mile a minute in despair with only the thought of the impending loss seared in his very core. He was dreadfully close to forever losing his dearest light. All meaning of life was almost beyond his grasp yet this creature would ignorantly subject him to that excruciating hell once again given the chance? "Do you know how much I love you? How much I cherish you? How could you even hurt my important person that way?!" Grief-stricken voice bellowed as trembling hands held his beloved's face once again. "Don't you ever dare treat yourself poorly!" He was his most precious treasure. The one he'd been looking after all this time. How could he disregard his feelings like that? "Don't you dare hurt my lover like that again. Not even for my sake!"

The stunned silverette was taken aback by the passionate admonishment and was instantly overcame with guilt. He had only thought of his feelings and had not the wit to think about how those around him would feel. Indeed, had their positions been reversed, he would have killed himself if Hana was hurt because of him. The realization of the pain he caused brought tears to melancholic lavender eyes. "I'm sorry, Hana. I'm so sorry." He whispered again and again. Pale hands mirrored his lover's and tremulously held on to the noble.

It took the lovers a while to calm their turbulent emotions. Soft pads of thumbs gently caressed the soft skin of the one they loved the most. With the warmth as evidence that the worst didn't come to pass, Hanabusa finally managed to regain control. His finger once again traced the newly acquired fangs of his lover in a daze manner. His mind was intent on the fact of his beloved's change and all that it entailed.

"Do you hate it?" Ichiru whispered worriedly, spying the absent look in aquamarine gaze.

The blonde urgently shook his head. "No, God, no. Of course not." Azure orbs looked at the enchanting creature soulfully, drinking the welcomed sight of him right as rain. He was only worried that soon, his angel would come to hate what he had become. He knew how important his hunter lineage was to Ichiru. Didn't he aspire to be stronger in order to finally take the mantle that the Kiryū family had always don? "It's just that… I was afraid that you would regret the loss of your lineage… your treasure…"

"This hesitation is not like you, Hana." Ichiru finally smiled, not the least bit concerned. "Nii-san had no problems carrying out his hunter missions even after being turned." After hesitating for only a while, he added, "And Hana," A pale hand reached out to cup his cheek. "You are also my treasure." The most prized one.

Tears stung sapphire orbs as the noble whispered through trembling lips, tightly taking Ichiru's hand holding him and kissing his palm. "And you are mine." Sometimes, he could still not believe his luck that such a magnificent creature turned to him. After hopelessly pining for many nights, his affections were even returned. Hopefully, he could make him turn his way for as long as they both shall live.

Hanabusa couldn't believe someone so precious, someone this beautiful, someone so wonderful could be his.

He could still remember when those intense lights in amethyst eyes penetrated his heart accompanied by a breathless but satisfied laugh and a frail arm lifting a proud fist in air. He knew that at that very moment, he wanted to become the reason why that person lived for the rest of his life.

If he ever managed to use all his luck in this lifetime to acquire such a precious gift, then he believed it was all worth it.

After a tense car ride and what seemed like a million years, six imposing figures finally found themselves in front of a magnificent mansion. They abandoned their vehicle just outside the gate and travelled the expansive length of a neglected garden on foot. Their plan to secretly enter the mansion was all for naught, however. The occupants of the old, grand manor were clearly expecting visitors for multiple vampires halted their advance.

A hum of power shivered before disappearing completely. Lavender orbs glared ferociously after spotting a simple, short-lived but effective hunter spell for presence concealment. That damn fucker of a president really needed to rot in all circles of hell.

Burgundy orbs narrowed also when, like what happened with the senate, he felt his initial advantage of control as a pureblood ineffective. How was Rido able to move even after shedding much of his blood? How irritating.

An old aristocrat stepped forward to represent the hundreds of vampires under their Rido-sama. Face smug and without any regard for the new comers. Smirking lips opened but before one word of the speech he had internally rehearsed went passed his lips, metallic thorny vines attacked. "This uncouth-!"

"Shut the fuck up. We're not here to talk." The silver hunter immediately unleashed indiscriminate attack at all the opposing vampires.

"Quite so, otou-chan." Agreed Kohaku who had already jumped forward with undetectable speed in all his teenage glory, slashing seven adversaries at once. He threw a few flat metal spheres in the air and with a snap of his fingers, electricity charged in the air which transformed the innocent metals into deadly projectiles that took several lives at once. Building ire had found its much needed outlet and the normally calm heir was quick to take advantage.

"Geez, why do villains like to first make a speech?" Derided Akira who had already released several rounds of bullets which turned into balls of fire that reduced about two nobles and three level Es to ashes before they could even react. Long legs then dodged a slow attack before long fingers snapped once to incinerate the fool. "We'll take care of these small fries, chichiue."

Kaname had to smile at the impulsiveness of his mate and children. Of course, out of all the wonderful characteristics their children could get from his beloved, it just had to be the one that would give him the most headache. The pureblood then turned to their only surprised companions. "Zero and I will go first. Annihilate these blights." Quiet burgundy orbs fell on the two nobles and added, "Make sure no harm comes to my children."

While Akatsuki Kain sincerely wondered if the meager them even had the capability to shield against something that two creatures of monumental powers and exceptional skills couldn't win against, he didn't voice that. He had, after all, developed fabulous self-preservation skills thanks to his cousins. "With our life, Kaname-sama." He would take the initiative and assume that what their supreme gang leader, erm, their Vampire King meant was to not let his formidable but reckless, half-mad children run amok.

"We will do our best, Kaname-sama." Ruka answered more sincerely. She could not let herself fail now when it was sure that their defeat could mean something more than their death.

"Whoever manages to finish first must quickly find Anne." The silver hunter stepped back from his barrage of attacks to also turn to the nobles. Even if he wanted to do it himself, he knew that Rido wouldn't be a simple walk in the park.

"Once you managed to secure our daughter, you must retreat back to the castle with the children without any glance back." Kaname ordered, a hand made a simple slashing move which turned three vampires into ashes at once.

"By your will, Kaname-sama." Both nobles steadfastly answered at once.

Quietly determined russet orbs then met raging amethysts. With an understanding, they met their children's eyes once more before both ran into the mansion, killing more filth as they went. The rain of fire and thunder expertly avoided them. The previously clean air was at once filled with scent of acrid burning and sharp astringent.

With the dynamic force that was the royal couple, it took them no time at all before reaching the main entrance. Silver vines immediately turned the heavy double-doors into kindling before the pair run through spacious and lavish halls. Even without proper directions, both could feel that odious presence that could only belong to a particular revolting vampire.

Soon, Kaname and Zero faced another set of heavy double-doors which unfortunately met the same fate as the poor entrance door. Russet and lavender then met the opulent interior of that mansion's Great Hall. While the expanse, architecture, interior and furniture were nothing to the opulence and grandeur of the Kuran Castle, it would still make any aristocrat proud and boastful. However, the picture of resplendence was ruined by the sight of blood and carnage of the remains still on the floor. They couldn't even tell how many corpses were there for they were carelessly piled away like an unbecoming hill just beside the throne on the dais that greatly resembled the one that could be seen in the Vampire King's castle.

"Why did you have to break the door, my dear Zero? It wasn't even locked." Tutted Rido with a shake of his head. He was a little taken aback when he felt the aura of the hunter but had remained calm. An elegant hand around a large wine glass moved as blood-red orbs eyes the swirling contents in his goblet.

The vile sight of the bloodied vampire perched without care on the throne would have made any hunter shudder in disgust and fear but all it gave the silver hunter was unfathomable fury. Amethyst orbs bled crimson at the sight of the liquid inside the glass that was in that loathsome vampire's hand. Even without looking, he could tell that his mate's flaming eyes had also noticed the disturbing contents in the chalice.

Maddening outrage filled every fiber of the couple's body as their blood raged and their instinct screamed at the abominable scene before them.

Kaname had felt anger before. Multiple times, he had lost control of his serenity despite the control he had always tried to maintain over his temper. He was no stranger to boiling rage and thirst for bloodshed. But it was certainly his first time feeling this much wrath that his head was filled with nothing but violence that he thought he would have gone insane. The desire for death was very palpable and long fingers twitched in response to the intense hunger for murder in his veins.

Yet, despite the call for his blood almost obvious in the air, the pureblood on the throne still had the gall to smile charmingly. As if not seeing the savageness reflected in the carmine orbs glaring viciously at him, he simply continued to sip his drink. He was immeasurably satisfied at the expression he had finally pried out of his pathetic nephew. He had sorely hated whenever the normally apathetic and flat gaze fell on him, as if he was nothing, of no consequence. Perhaps, to his age-old ancestor of his, he was not threatening enough. But now, look at that miserable face. How exciting.

"You-," With voice trembling in rage, the hunter couldn't quite articulate the thousand curses he wanted to say to that motherfucker.

"How dare you?" The dark and heavy voice of the Vampire King resounded in the enormous room. The brutal and devastating aura of the enraged pureblood that would have sent even his most loyal subject to run away in the speed of light tore violently into the room without restraint.

"Oh, this? Given how much of a fool you are, my dear nephew, I very much doubted that you've tried to have a taste of that baby's blood." Rido tutted before chuckling as if the thought was very amusing indeed. He took another sip of his drink, not bothered by the two pairs of murderous garnets narrowed dangerously at him. The beast in beautiful skin savored the contents and hummed. "Your daughter's blood is so exquisite. I must say you're missing out a lot by not taking even a small taste. Don't worry. I'll enjoy your mate and that little angel's blood for the both of us."

"In your fucking dreams!" There was only that scream of anger before the previously luxurious room descended into ruin. Numerous deadly vines aggressively charged at the lounging pureblood. It met only an empty throne, however, for the previous occupant had already left with undetectable speed.

The sound of the empty goblet shattering on the marble floor resounded before a mirthful voice spoke. "You're still so impatient, little hunter. I have to train you later on."

Kaname's eyes widened imperceptibly at his uncle's speed while the hunter was only momentarily stunned before redirecting his attack behind him. Zero had no doubt that the surge of power came from the blood he had so abominably feasted on just seconds ago. The thought alone was enough to squash the trepidation at the realization of their adversary's increased strength.

Regardless, he would still die by their hands.

Having felt the same conviction and hearing his mate's urging through their bond, the brunette immediately summoned his own sword from the ruby sitting on the necklace around his neck. Smooth palm met the cold hilt of the old blade and Kaname had to hum in satisfaction at the lack of rejection from the anti-vampire weapon that would have already burned his hand.

Indeed, it didn't matter. Imminent death was the only fate his uncle would have.

Far away from the skirmishes that happened in the upper-class mansion, four equally purpose-driven individuals found themselves inside the old but intimidating headquarters of hunters. Thanks to the knowledge of the oldest vampire hunter in their midst, all managed to infiltrate the association undetected and with little difficulty.

Now, all they had to do was find that wretched president and all the other hunters that were far too gone to change. Unfortunately, more hunters thought of hunting vampires as sport rather than a means of safeguarding the weak. They had to do away with them.

Having decided that covertness was the best way to finish their business without them being overwhelmed by the sheer number of the hunters, all four split and went their way after cautioning each other from making a commotion. Each checked to see that they still had their flares which should only be fired if and only if they found themselves in a very fatal situation. Since their undertaking would only become more arduous once they were detected, they hoped that it would not be used.

If only they could have made used of a distraction. However, aside from the vampires within the Vampire King's circle and what with the recent betrayal from all sides, they found themselves unable to rely and give power to others. Once all these were over, they must make sure clear all the bad blood.

An irritated but still inaudible sigh escaped a brunette vampire hunter. He was still not recovered even with his hunter healing and the mojo the vampires did to him to aid his recuperation. It went without saying that coupled with the throbbing pain on his side, he did not appreciate all those fuckers of comrades looking squarely at him while reminding each other to stay stealthy. What? Did he look like moron? Was he ever like his trigger-happy kohai who would shoot at the slightest provocation? Damn bastards.

He stopped his internal cursing and immediately hid behind a pillar when he heard some footsteps near and was surprised to see the Hunter Association's president himself emerge from a chamber he believed was used as a stockroom. Would you look at that? The young hunter couldn't believe his luck.

"What the hell are you doing here?" Kaito muttered under his breath. Narrowed hazel orbs observed their sexually confused president and paused. His breath stuttered and copper orbs widened, anxious heart at once started sprinting. He would have already attacked if not for the rude shock he felt at clearly seeing the kook's face.

That loon had always been quite youthful but never to such an extent. Anyone who looked at the current president's face after knowing how he had always appeared would think that they had travelled back in time. How could they not when the features sitting on that bastard's face was definitely someone who was barely in their twenties?

The young hunter shuddered even more at the insinuation. In now what seemed like a lifetime ago, he asked about his kohai's children's abilities. This was why he was well-informed about different ways they could transfer their abilities. He was told that the brats had to concentrate in order to impart their particular abilities when creating bloodstones or temporarily grant said abilities to another being through feeding. However, unless they willed it otherwise, certain abilities would be temporarily awarded through their blood once consumed. While the blood of the little royals would give the consumer momentary skills like becoming impervious to attacks for a period of time in the case of one Kuran Akira or being able to use precognitive abilities for a while with the little silver princess' blood, only one of them would be able to restore one's youth.

That bitch. Terrible hatred invoked unsurmountable violence in the hunter's head. It can't be. Kaito had to take deep, quiet breaths in order to restore his calm. If the horrible speculation was true, then it was not the time to be attracting attention to himself.

A trembling hand took hold of the other that was in the act of reaching for his gun. Brown eyes closed and teeth gritted to will more self-control. Ears intent on the sound of retreating footsteps. Kaito never knew that being patient would be this fucking hard. Finally, after what seemed like an entire century, he deemed the perimeter clear.

Quiet but quick steps immediately went to the abandoned room once he was sure that the president was completely gone. Darkness covered him after closing the old door that gave a loud creaking sound in protest for being overused.

Hazel orbs looked around and closely observed the room. The only light came from his ever so trusted lighter. Nothing of importance was around. Broken chairs, detached wooden parts of furniture on the dusty floors, forgotten crates partially covered by tattered fabrics and moth-eaten books were the only things inside. Kaito had to wonder why they didn't just demolish the old rotten place but he didn't think that that bitch would come there for old time's sake.

He smirked when he looked down to find a clear clean trail on the thick dust-full floor, no wonder from the hem of that man's gown. Despite the hatred he felt earlier, he couldn't stop the comical and mocking insult that formed in his mind. Really, for someone who claimed to be straight, he sure liked to wear fancy dresses. If he was not the president, insults would be raining down from the hunters about his choice of apparel for sure.

Dark brows crumpled over sharp copper eyes when the trail reached a dead-end. There was nothing but a solid wall in front. His free hand experimentally tapped the wall for any secret button that might reveal another chamber because no matter how deranged that slimy snake was, he surely wouldn't be just kissing this wall every time he came here, right? He was still patting the wall when his eyes caught an old rusty wall sconce torch holder that was still dust-free even after all these years.

Huh.

He looked around the dark room once more and strained his hearing to make sure that no one was approaching the room before he took hold of the torch holder and pulled it downwards. And just as he suspected, the empty wall creaked to slowly reveal a dark passageway.

Heh.

How basic.

He was still smirking to himself when he took a step to venture inside without a second thought.
