Hopeful Days IV – Lucky Me
Makoto blinked slowly as the form of a girl gets up from the chair in the middle of the workshop.
She is a tall girl, with sickly pale skin, light gray-green eyes and shoulder length white wavy hair.
Her attire is composed of a white t-shirt, a long dark green hooded coat with red details, a dark green miniskirt that shared the same details as her coat, black tights and brown boots.
"You must be the new lucky student?" The girl asks looking straight towards Makoto.
Not knowing why, the boy instinctively stepped back, before answering. "Y-Yes I'm Na-" Before he can introduce himself, the girl's grayish eyes move away from him and land on the pinkette by his side.
"Oh! You must be Utsugi Kotoko, Ultimate Actress right?" Now looking at the other girl, the older Luckster's tone loses all of its unheard hostility and becomes a lot more friendly. "I have watched some of your performances online, your talent shines brighter than anything I have ever seen!" The older girl approaches Kotoko, which also steps slightly back.
"U-Uh, s-sure!" Laughing awkwardly, the pink-haired teenager asks. "I-It's a pleasure to meet you… uh…?"
Widening her eyes, the white-haired girl steps back and chuckles awkwardly. "Oh heavens, I was so excited that I forgot to introduce myself, didn't I?" Smiling gently, ths girl bows and introduces herself. "I'm Komaeda Nagito, Ultimate Lucky Student from class 77-B!" Her smile seemed genuine, but at the same time, it felt unsettling to the other two teens.
"S-Sure, uh, you seem to already know me, sooo-" Walking slightly back, the pinkette pushes Makoto a little but towards the other girl. "W-Why don't you introduce yourself, Naegi-kun?"
' I already tried to but she cut me off.' Thinks the brunette.
"Naegi?" Nagito turns to face the boy, her eyes glaring at him in a way that sent chills down his spine. "You wouldn't happen to be Naegi Makoto, would you?"
"Y-Yeah, that's me." He replies and the girl widens her eyes. "I-Is something the matter?"
Nagito doesn't reply, she had too much going on in her mind right now. ' This is Naegi Makoto?' She looks at him with disbelief. "I've… heard of you." The other lucky student says, her eyes going back to the cold glare from before. "Nanami-san spoke very highly of you."
Makoto blinked, a smile forming in his lips. "S-She did?" Reluctantly, the taller girl nodded. "I'm glad, so Chiaki-chan didn't forgo- ouch!" He is interrupted yet again, but this time, it is by a slap hitting his face.
The brunette steps back and brings a hand towards his cheek.
Kotoko looks in shock towards the older student which had her hand still lifted from the slap.
"Don't you even dare to call her by the first name with your filthy mouth!" The white-haired girl growls in anger, before she notices the Ultimate Actress' eyes on her. "Oh, I don't know what came over me! I'm so sorry you had to witness such a deplorable scene, Utsugu-san!" Nagito bows apologetically, although completely ignoring the boy she just slapped.
"H-Huh?" Kotoko blinks. "S-Shouldn't you be apologizing to Na-"
"I'm truly sorry you had to witness such violence!" With a gentle smile that completely contrasted with her earlier attitude, the girl starts walking towards the door. "I'm make myself useful and leave, see you around Utsugi-san!" Nagiti smiles again and walks out of the workshop, leaving the two other Ultimates alone.
"W-What just happened?" The actress asks herself still confused. "N-Naegi-kun! Are you okay?" She turns to the lucky student that was still holding onto his cheek.
"I'm okay." The brunette says, forcing a smile. "I-It actually didn't hurt that much." He laughs awkwardly. ' But left a mark.'
Tye pinkette gulps down and nods. "What was her problem anyway?" She asks, looking back towards the door.
Makoto follows her gaze and shakes his head. "No idea."
Nagito stops at one of the hallways in the academy, her eyes glancing around. "Naegi Makoto eh?" She clicks her tongue. "First that talentless wench from the reserve course, now this lucky trash." The white-haired girl sighs, but soon opens a creepy smile. "But that won't be a problem for long." Cackling, Nagito closes her eyes. "I'll save you from those impure trash, Nanami-san!" She whispers to herself, before turning around and disappearing in the hallways.
After that moment with Nagito, Makoto and Kotoko decided to just go to their rooms at the dormitory.
While walking towards the building on the other side of the campus, the two teenagers stopped to look outside the window, admiring the orange of the sunset as it transitions to night.
"It really pretty." Kotoko says, watching as the shadow of the academy grows and develops the courtyard.
"Yeah." Makoto agrees. "Pretty crazy first day isn't it?" He asks and the girl giggles.
"Hehe, to you it must have been." She retorts and the brunette blushes. "I'm just joking."
Soon the boy chuckles too and the two share a good laugh.
Turning to face the window once again, Makoto puts his hand inside the pockets of his hoodie. "You know, I'm still not sure if it was the right decision to come here to Hope's Peak." The orange tint was replaced by the darkness of the night, or at least of the school which was covering up the sunset. "But at least, it isn't as bad as a thought it would be." He says, then almost like a reminder, the cheek that had been slapped by Nagito pinches in pain a little bit.
The pink-haired Ultimate just listens, before turning to Makoto and smiling softly. "Hey Naegi-kun?" She calls making him look back towards her. "Wanna be my friend?"
"Huh?" Makoto lifts a eyebrow. "But aren't we already friends?"
She giggles. "Yeah, but I want to make it official!" She bends down slightly and smiles. "So, what do you say?"
The brunette blushes. "S-Sure." He then extends his hand and smiles. "Friends?"
Kotoko giddily grabs his hand and shakes it. "Friends!" She turn around and starts pulling him towards the dorms. "It's getting late, we better go the dormitories!"
Makoto just chuckles and lets himself be pulled by the excited pinkette.
Once at the dorms, Kotoko excuses herself and runs to her room leaving Makoto to wander around on his own.
After some minutes of walking and checking his e-Handbook for a map, the brunette finally reaches his room.
He stares at the door for a short while, then takes a deep breath and opens it.
His new room wasn't anything special, in fact most of his personal belongings are still on their box, waiting for him to arrange them and customize his room.
Steeping into the place he was going to be living in for now, the brunette locks the door behind him.
Walking past all the boxes scattered around, Makoto sits down on his bed and looks down to the floor. His mind flashing back to everything that happened today.
He got hit by someone's butt and sent into the infirmary, made a scene at the entrance ceremony, met with Maizono Sayaka, met Kuwata Leon and Utsugi Kotoko and-
Makoto flinched as he subconsciously brought his hand up and touched his cheek.
-got slapped by another lucky student.
He sighed again, throwing himself at the bed and looking towards the ceiling.
If he had to say, this first day went better than he expected really.
While his luck did cause some shenanigans and his encounter with Nagito wasn't, well, the most friendly one.
Still, Makoto was feeling hopeful, maybe it was because of his encounter with Sayaka, or maybe it was because Leon and Kotoko are more friendly than the others, he didn't know.
The brunette boy couldn't deny that feeling of fear from not fitting in was still there and after everything from today, it kinda got amplified.
But, that excitement that was building up inside of him had also grown and he couldn't wait for the next day to come.
Looking at his ceiling, Makoto smiled softly.
Hope's Peak was going to be one heck of a ride, he could feel that.
