TREMIS
Time passed by so quickly, month after month passed, and it was now time for Ono-nichan entrance exam at UA.
Right now, Furue and her family are waiting in front of UA along with many other families. It should be the time they get out now when the bell rings. The door of UA opens and many people walk out, some with faces full of smiles while others full of disappointment.
She looked around for Ono-nichan until she spotted the familiar dark hair, "Ono-nichan is there.'' She tugged on Ame-neechan's skirt, before pointing at Ono-nichan. Furue couldn't see his face hiding behind numerous students.
"Oi! Ono! Over here!" Ame-neechan yells, making people gather their eyes at them and Ono-nichan looks up.
"oi, isn't that the kid who failed to get a single robot?"
"Really? Man, that was a pathetic display!"
"I heard he accidentally hurt one of the participants, making her lose her chance at getting a point…"
Soon, whispers were heard, hundreds of people were now staring at them and Ono-nichan looked up, his eyes were tired as he looked at Ame-neechan…no…he was looking at her. Looking at Furue.
He disappeared among the crowd before Ame-neechan could get to him. The whisper is still followed.
They return home, only to find that Ono-nichan isn't there. "Tch, stupid brat, where is he?" She left to call him, but he didn't pick up. So she called him again. And he didn't pick up again.
Furue didn't like this, he was supposed to be home and playing with her and others like before, he should smile like before, but she didn't notice…he was distancing himself from her, slowly but surely, he put up more, and more distance and she didn't notice at all…
Is she doing something wrong? That he needs to put distance from her. What did she do wrong?
"Ne…Ame-neechan…did I do something wrong?" with an unanswerable question, she asks the only one she thinks could answer her.
Ame-neechan looks shocked, until her hand clenches on the phone before she smiles at Furue. "You didn't do anything wrong. Wait for me, ok? I will drag his ass back here. Gramp, can you watch the kids? I need to beat some sense into him."
Before Grandpa could answer, Ame-neechan had already left.
TREMIS
"Bastard…Making others worry like this." Ame grumbles as she clenches her fist harder and harder. It was her fault, she didn't notice it. She should have noticed something was wrong long before, but because she had her own worries she neglected him.
It was all Ame's fault. She didn't know where he was, but she knew there was a place he often fancied, a place they both used to go together. It was an abandoned park near her middle school, there were no people there so they took the place for themselves, but as Ame grew up, she didn't go there together with Ono anymore.
She rushed there, and in 30 minutes she finally reached that place. The sound of a rusted swing echoed in her ears. She saw him, sitting on the swing by himself, she sighed out her frustration before sitting next to him, more calm than before.
"You make…, no… you good?" she asks as she pushes the swing with her feet, but no answer comes from him, so she opts for sitting silently next to him.
"I failed…I didn't even need the letters to know that I failed…" he said, his voice sounding tired.
"UA isn't the only place, y'know?" Ame said.
"No…there is nothing else…If it's not UA then nothing else matters."
"There Shiketsu, Tokoriko, Ketsubutsu, Isamu, Seijin-"
"You don't get it! If it's not UA then it doesn't matter! I know! I know there are other schools! But…with my quirk…I…couldn't be a hero with my quirk…" He smashes the swing, destroying them in one punch.
Ame stared silently, waiting for him to stop throwing a tantrum. "You can-"
"Be a hero? No, but with Furue's quirk? Yeah! Why!? Why does that girl have such a strong quirk?! I work my ass off, trying to improve but I can't! So why does that girl manifest such a strong quirk right at that moment!?"
So it comes to this, yeah, this was Ame's Fault, she failed to see the jealousy of Ono. "Listen, Ono-"
"And you! If only you have a better quirk then! You would have become a Hero easily! Why do you have such a talent? If only you had a quirk as strong as Furue then you wouldn't have to think twice!"
Ame glared at the boy, he was being annoying right now. "So? Is that all? Does one setback make you fall this hard?" The boy shut up at her words, but he still looks defiant. "So what If I have a strong quirk? Me? Becoming a hero? In a hundred years buddy, I have never been interested in that, Why fight for some stranger I don't know? Look, my life now is hard enough, I have enough on my plate, I don't need to expose my identity to the world and face danger from who knows what. Stop being a bay already."
"You wouldn't understand." He said, as his hand clenched on the broken swing chain.
"Right, I wouldn't understand. So-" Before she could think, her instinct screamed at her to dodge, but she did as her instinct said and leaped out of the swing, only to see it was broken into pieces. "The fuck? You playing like tha-" Just as she looked up, Ame stopped her mouth from speaking, Ono…her little brother looked different, his veins were popping up like mad and there was a dangerous glint in his eyes.
She looked around and saw a bottle in his hand. "...What is that?" she asks cautiously but receives no answer, then, another swing from the chain and Ame dodge again, but this time, it almost hit her legs.
"See…You are so strong but have no good quirk to go along with it." Ono said as he continued to swing his chain, and Ame dangerously dodged each one, though it kept getting closer and closer, his time limit was near, it was almost 5 minutes, in around 30 seconds.
Ame counted in her heart, slowly, and slowly, just as it hit the 30-second mark though, the attack didn't stop, instead, it came out even stronger and hit Ame's leg, making her scream out.
"W-what? Y-your time limit…should be now." She spoke out from the pain, Ame could hear the boy getting closer by his step, her leg…got broken from one attack that she couldn't dodge.
"If only you have a better quirk…" Ono mumble.
"You still on that shit? I said I was satisfied with my life, asshole, Now tell me how you got that, call an ambulance and go back with me or I swear I will beat your ass!" Ame growled out, getting up on one knee, her leg hurt like hell but she needed to be strong, she needed to fix her mistake, otherwise, it would haunt her forever.
But instead of answering her, Ono just walked away, not looking back. "Oi! Come back here!" She screams out but just as Silhouette becomes even smaller and smaller. "Oi! Ono!" But he was gone. He went leaving her here.
She failed…Ame failed to stop her little brother.
TREMIS
Ame-neechan got into the hospital, but Ono-nichan never came back, Furue didn't understand why, she asked Ame-neechan but she just had this painful look in her eyes and then forcefully smiled at her…But Furue wants to be Ono-nichan sidekick in the future, that's what she wants…but if Ono-nichan is gone…then what purpose does her quirk have?
They file a police report of Ono-nichan as a missing child, but the police still haven't found him… It is as if he disappeared from the world, there was no record camera or other place, Grandpa is worried and so is everyone, but the one who worries and is in the most pain is Ame-neechan, she blames herself for the reason Furue couldn't understand…
She doesn't want Ame-neechan to be in pain, She doesn't like that. So…this is how it feels…to worry about someone to the point you want to protect them, she thinks…she understands it a little bit now.
"Ame-neechan." Furue got the attention of the older girl by calling her, she was staring out of the window, looking at it absently. But her emotionless face turns into a smile as Ame-neechan greets her.
"Come here, Furue, give me a hug, This big sis is quite lonely," Ame-neechan said as she waved her hand. She has been in hospital for over a week now and missed her college entrance exam. Furue walked to her bed and let the older girl slowly caress her head. "What is it, Furue?" She asks, her hand stop caressing Furue's head.
Furue looked up, and stared at the older girl's eyes, the red hair that flowed down was messy, and her yellow eyes were like cats, there was a mark, it was red from crying. Furue extends her arm up trying to reach the older girl's face and slowly, she wipes her lingering tears away. "I…" She stops, trying to find the better words, one that she wants to say.
Ame-neechan waits patiently as she watches Furue straight in the eyes. Furue takes in a deep breath and returns the gaze. "I…want to be a hero." Ame-neechan nods, seemingly knowing what she wants to say already.
"Why?" She asks simply, without much word to say, Furue looks toward the windows.
"Ono-nichan is missing…I want to find him." She then looks toward Ame, this time, her green eyes shine bright with resolution. "I don't want to see you get hurt…and I don't want to see other people get hurt. It…painful…I want to protect you and Aya-nee and Yuzu-Nii and Grandpa and…Ono-nichan. I want to protect everyone."
Ame-neechan simply nods and caresses her head softly. "I can't tell you what to do, but as long as you have the heart to do it, go for it, as long as it does not trouble anyone, and not trouble yourself then, Big sis will support you." Ame-neechan lifted her up, and even though Furue had been gaining more weight, she was still able to lift her up, though with a bit of struggle, Ame-neechan then hugged her, and Furue returned the hug.
It was silent, but it was broken by Ame-neechan crying, she didn't know what to do, so Furue did what she thinks is the best, She slowly caressed Ame-neechan back, and not saying anything, letting her cry her heart out.
Author's rant of the day!
I have to say, I don't feel very much like writing this chapter, maybe it is because I didn't introduce Ono properly? Or is it because I know it going to happen eventually? Well, What do you guys think?
