The duo were lounging in their dorms, they didn't say anything after their talk. Harry and Draco had been happy to relax in each other's company and to spoil the kitten with affection.
Harry watched Draco stand up and walk towards their shared bedroom, Harry then laid flat on the sofa to let the kitten crawl on his chest. Lyra was purring loudly while laying on him. Harry himself was unconsciously purring with the cat, it takes him a brief moment to register his chest vibrating peacefully.
Harry scratched behind the kitten's ears, his brows furrowed as he thought.
'I should make a list, things I need to do.. what I need to research.' He noted down that he would need to visit Hogsmeade over the weekend, maybe even use a floo to get to Diagon alley.
Harry saw his hair in the corner of his eye, the colours slowly changing as they blended into each other. It reminded him of Teddy… he also needs to visit him and Andromeda.
He sighed in frustration, it feels like there is so much he has to do and figure out but he never has time to do it. Honestly it makes him reconsider even coming here in the first place.
He felt Lyra crawl towards his face, her soft pink tongue kissing his cheek. For a transfigured kitten she is very smart, maybe it's because she was made from magic. Her existence is a little confusing seeing as transfiguration is only supposed to last a few hours even days, but Lyra felt.. Harry can feel true life in Lyra unlike the nasty feeling he would get in the back of his mind when everyone transfigured their animals.
It was like.. hm. It was like the animal's soul wouldn't transfigure with the body. But Lyras did, maybe it was because of Death? Maybe even Fate. He is unsure.. Another thing to add on his forever growing mental list.
"You alright Harry?" Some- no Draco, said. Throwing Harry out of his own mind. Harry sat up properly on the sofa and let Lyra lay on his thighs.
"Oh! Yeah I'm okay." He saw Draco holding a Book. "What's that for?"
"It's a catalogue, you know for the owl post, I thought we could go through it and see what we- erm you, can get for Lyra before dinner starts." Draco replied, he sat down next to Harry and pulled the coffee table softly towards the sofa.
Draco placed the catalogue on the coffee table, it was titled "Things4Pets", the name reminded Harry of the "Pets4Home" in the muggle world.
"Well I'd say w- you should get Lyra things that compliments her, like this white cat scratching post."
Harry nodded, taking note of how Draco would correct himself, his lip twitching into a small smile.
"I think we should get the white one that has the dark oak instead of the normal oak," Harry said, pointing to the catalogue.
Draco's eyes widened a smidge, not very noticeable unless you're looking.
"We should get the full set then shouldn't we? It would also be cheaper to get the set instead of individual things" Draco replied.
The set contained a white litter box that magically cleaned itself, a cat bed that would have a constant warming charm, a cat post that regenerated itself after a certain amount of time and various cat toys. Harry can tell this is the high end stuff, he could definitely afford it.
"Yeah okay then, I'm paying tho." He said.
"No, I can pay, I have enough." Draco replied
"Draco, not to be rude but I definitely have much more galleons in my vaults than the Malfoys I am capable enough to pay."
"What if we split it?"
Harry pondered over it, "yeah we can split it"
Draco went to stand up, but Harry summoned parchment and quill for them.
Draco raised an eyebrow at the obvious showing off but his face had a small smirk on it. He then grabbed the floating parchment and quill, he wrote the company's name, what we wanted and signed the paper with his signature and heir ring, his hand lifted and showed a family crest with a large M painted on the parchment.
"Your turn" he said as he passed the parchment and quill to Harry.
Harry grabbed the quill and signed the paper, he pondered on what ring to use. He decided on the Potter ring and watched his ring become the thick gold ring with the large polished garnet. He softly pressed his ring onto the parchment, he lifted his hand and saw the gryphon that was etched onto the paper.
"I would've thought the Potters would have a lion on their ring," joked Draco.
"I could've said the same about the Malfoy's and their obsession with snakes," Harry replied back with a smile.
Draco then pulled a small ribbon from his pocket and tied it around the letter, "we can send this after dinner."
They both then heard a soft meow coming from Lyra, who was demanding attention from them both.
Harry laughed and gently picked her up and held her at his face, the kitten gently kissing and rubbing her fur on his cheek.
Draco watched the interaction, his face softening into a small smile, Harry's hair turning snow white as if he's unconsciously mimicking Lyra. The display felt pure and innocent, something only him and Harry would display to each other.
The bell then sounded, pulling the duo out of their bubble. Harry's stomach then decided it would be a good time to make itself known.
Harry's white hair then became a dusty red at the ends, his cheeks becoming bright red, Draco laughed at the other.
He pecked Lyras nose and set her down on the sofa. "I'm starved… as you can tell." He said to Draco as he stood up.
"So am I, let's get going then" he replied, standing up with Harry as they both walked out their dorm together.
Harry's face became a little stiff as he thought.
'I don't want to sit next to them two, what about Neville? I swear to Merlin himself if Ron and Hermionie try anything…' he shook his head, he was working himself up into unneeded anger.
He felt someone flick the back of his head.
"What's the matter with you Scarface?" Draco said.
"Oh- nothing much really" he replied.
Draco shrugged his shoulders as they both entered the great hall.
Everyone still looked a little as they both walked passed but honestly both of them are more than used to looks from people.
Harry then saw a familiar head of white and brown hair and walked towards them. He saw Draco walk towards his friends.
"Hi Neville! Hey Luna!" He said enthusiastically and sat next to them.
"Oh hi Harry how have you been?" Asked Luna dreamily.
Neville nodded his head towards Harry, unable to speak with the food in his mouth.
"I've been okay what about you Luna"
"Oh the usual, Nargles taking my quills and stuff. Just have to wait for them to give it back" she replied.
Harry started to fill his plate with his usual and did not even react to Ron and Hermionie staring at him.
"What are you here for then?" Asked Neville quietly after he finished eating.
"Trying to avoid certain people" replied Harry as he darted his eyes to Ron and Hermionie and put some mash in his mouth.
Neville nodded his head as he glanced towards them "no surprise mate, I would've done the same thing. I'm surprised you put up with them for so long"
Harry hummed in reply and swallowed his food, "yeah… y'know Nev, this is going to sound weird but what would they be like.. without me there?"
Neville paused and seemed to think, Luna looked towards Harry, her eyes in a rare state of being clear.
"Do you know?" Luna asked.
"Depends on what you are implying"
"My phoenix, do you know." She stated her voice in a whisper.
"Yes" he replied back.
Luna nodded her head, "so it's all back on track now right?"
"Yes, it should be." He replied.
"What.. uhm anyway. To answer your question… they were very.. parental? towards you, but they would be icy cold and different when you were not there to watch them." Neville stated in a quiet tone making sure only the three could hear him.
Harry nodded his head, it would make sense "okay then"
As he was putting a piece of sausage in his mouth Professor McGonagal stood up at the podium.
"I would like to make a short announcement. First of all I would like to remind you all that skipping is prohibited no matter how old you are" Professor looks directly at the year eight table. "Furthermore, the year eights are allowed to head towards hogsmeade during free periods if they are of age. Do not cross further than hogsmeade as you are still a member of the student body" well that ruins Harry's plans for Diagon alley.
Professor Mcgonagal waited for some of the hushed talking to die down. "However, if you are an of age pupil who needs to visit Gringotts or any other related issue you may talk to your head of year and get permission to floo or apparate to your destination."
Soft muttering came from the year eight table, mostly from the slytherins or well known families. The announcement made Harry's life a little bit easier as he would be more able to freely travel to places instead of being stuck in Hogwarts.
Harry's brow furrowed slightly in thought, Draco looked at him slightly from across the table wondering what was going through Harry's head.
"Harry, have you thought of what you are going to plan?" Questioned Luna.
Harry looked at her as he was thrown out of his thoughts.
"Not really Luna… I haven't had much time. But with this I may have more leg room to see certain people, plan certain things" he answered truthfully.
Luna hummed in acknowledgment then turned to her food and started to eat.
It didn't take long for Harry to finish. The small talk between him and the other two was greatly appreciated and relieving.
"It was nice talking Nev, do you want to hang out some time soon?" Asked Harry as he wiped his mouth with a napkin.
Neville's eyes opened slightly, "of course mate, I haven't got much to do as I completed most of it last year so my timetable is pretty open"
"Aw I wish, we will have to talk soon to work something out Nev, I'll see you tomorrow" Harry grinned slightly standing up and waving goodbye to Neville and Luna.
Harry walked back up to his dorm peacefully.
"Harry mate!" Someone said behind him.
Harry whipped around to see a familiar redhead and brunette.
"Oh Ron.. Hermione… Hey" he said, backing up slightly.
"How come you never told us about… about… that!" Hermionie fumed, gesturing to his hair.
Harry's jaw tensed slightly.
"I didn't even know until today!!" Harry lied, throwing his hands up.
Ron just looked like his eyes would turn green with jealousy.
"Don't lie Harry!! First it was going to gringotts, this and then what?? What else haven't you been telling us" Hermione screeched.
"I don't have to tell you everything that happens in my life. At the moment Hermionie I am busy. I will have to talk to you later." Harry said coldly, turning on his heel.
Hermionie gripped on Harry's arm stopping him from walking away.
"No you listen here Harry you have been acting strange for a while now, I'm sick of it. After everything me and Ron dragged ourselves in because of you!!"
Harry yanked his hand away opening his mouth to say something.
"Wasn't that your choice Granger?"
Harry looked up to see Draco behind them, his face icy yet his eyes full of anger.
"What's it to you Malfoy, you can hardly say anything" Ron finally chirped in.
"If you never wanted to go with me then you should've stayed. Don't you dare try making out that you were forced with everything, you chose this life. Sadly I didn't" Harry said with a monotone voice. He felt burning anger swirling in his stomach.
Hermionie glared at him, her expression sour.
Draco pushed past them both and softly grabbed Harry shoulder, leading them both towards the dorm.
"Harry, you get back here!" Hermionie said walking to follow them.
"Hermionie if you carry on, I swear to Merlin my patience will snap." Harry gritted.
"No! you will tell us what is going on" she replied
Harry took a deep breath as he noticed certain things vibrating in their place. His magic seemed to spike.
Harry carried on walking with Draco not looking back at Hermione.
He saw red hair behind him and his other shoulder was grabbed and tugged towards Ron.
Harry spun around and his magic suddenly pushed Ron away, causing him to go flying a few metres away.
"Cmon Potter" Draco said warily, he could see the anger in Harry's face and was worried about anything making an appearance.
Harry nodded and turned back towards their dorm following Draco.
"Harry James Potter!" Hermionie fumed.
Harry gritted his teeth as he walked a little faster, Draco trying to keep up.
Hermionie yanked Harry backwards by his wrist.
Harry set his jaw as he didn't look at her.
"What in Merlin's name is wrong with you! You hurt Ron- You won't even speak to us!"
Harry's hair turned a nasty red at her sentence.
"I told you already, I did not know about the whole hair thing until today! And I don't need to tell you anything about what happens in gringotts, that is strictly business."
"Strict- Strictly Business! You never even cared about that before." She said as if it was ludicrous. She glared at Draco.
"I don't know what the hell he has been whispering in your ear but it stops now" she said, "I want you to change dorm partners"
Harry shook his head, "didn't you want us to be civil? What's the matter with you? And he isn't whispering anything in my ear for Merlin's sake!"
"Now get the hell off me Mione" he said with a dark expression.
She glared at him, "or what"
Harry's magic spiked on its own again as Hermione was pushed away from him, he quickly put a leg locking curse on Hermione and Ron.
Harry's jaw was tense as he started walking with Eraco again.
Harry quickly led them both to a hidden shadow and walked through it, taking them both to their dorm's living room.
Harry took a deep breath as he tried to calm himself down, Draco softly patted his shoulder and Lyra danced around his feet.
"I'll make us some tea?" Draco offered.
Harry felt overwhelmed, like he was spilling.
"Not a minute Draco.." he hummed, trying to rein in his anger. The palms of his hands pressing against his eyes.
Draco nodded as he rubbed Harry's back soothingly.
"Just don't understand either of them- the cheek!" Harry gritted out as he moved his hands away from his face.
His hair turned a nasty black colour as he gripped and tugged at it. "What gives them the right to- ugh! Who the hell do they think they are!"
Draco softly pried Harry's hands out of his hair as he intertwined his fingers with Harry's. "They didn't have the right, especially to interrogate you like that." Draco agreed.
Harry softly gripped Draco's hands. "It's like fifth year all over again! Especially with Ron- So jealous over what…"
Draco hummed, "That's the Weasel for you, seems to think he has a hard life"
Harry huffed, he gently let go of the grip on Draco's hands.
"He just doesn't understand- it's like… like he never sees the bad in things. He'd gladly take my place, the money, the fame… yet when people are- are talking about him the way they did to me he'd…" Harry said trailing off.
"I know Harry.."
"He's… I get that his brother overshadows him but." Harry exhaled a little. "But he's always been jealous of someone, something…" Harry continued, thinking about what Ron saw in the mirror during their first year.
Harry heard Lyra meow softly from his feet. He felt exhausted, like everyone else was weighing him down.
Draco noticed the tired look on Harry's face, he led him to the sofa and sat him down.
"I'll make tea," Draco said, walking to the kitchen.
Lyra jumped on the sofa as Harry melted into it.
The white kitten laid in Harry's lap. His hair turned from the swampy black to a dusty grey, unconsciously starting to mimic her colours again while still feeling shitty.
Draco walked back into the scene with two mugs of tea. He placed them on the coffee table and sat next to Harry.
Harry didn't pick his tea up, his gaze fixed on the kitten.
Draco looked at Harry with a soft expression. "Cmon Scarface drink up before it goes cold"
Harry glanced at the cup and then at Draco. He felt a little lost. He knows what they did, he knows now. But he still feels… empty. Like his world, the bubble he was in shattered.
Draco looked at Harry's green eyes as he saw the black flecks in them. He saw the hidden turmoil behind them. He sighed and moved his arm pulling Harry close.
"Draco?" Harry murmured, he sank into Draco's hold unconsciously, Lyra moved from Harry's lap onto the arm of the sofa.
The weight of the situation seemed to dawn on Harry as he felt his eyes turn glassy.
Draco looked at his face, "oh Harry.." he murmured as he pulled him close, he readjusted them from the side hug to a more comfortable one with Harry leaning on Draco's chest.
Harry seemed to burrow into Draco as he thought. The years with them two were fake, horribly fake.
Harry gripped onto the front of Draco's shirt willing himself not to cry while Draco rubbed comforting circles into Harry's back.
Draco's other hand drifted to hold Harry's cheek, his thumb softly caressing his face. Harry looked up at Draco with something nagging in the back of his mind.
Draco looked at Harry's watery eyes, "it's okay Harry.." he whispered.
Harry felt something snap as his shoulders shook, he softly wrapped his arms around Draco and rested his head on his shoulder.
A low trilling noise escaped Harry as he cried, his body slumped against Draco.
Draco softly comforted the other whispering sweet words as he rubbed circles into his back.
Harry's hair turned a light blue, Draco watched the white and blue fade into each other as the hair shifted, he felt a little lost on how to help Harry.
A constant string of quiet, sad and angry trills filled the silence. Lyra moved from the arm of the sofa to the back, steadily walking to the pair as she purred to them both.
"I don't- I" Harry stuttered through tears.
"I know.. I know it's okay" Draco replied.
"No- they weren't even..." Harry tried to explain against Draco's shoulder as he soaked it with tears.
Draco softly shushed him, knowing Harry will just work himself up more if he talked.
After a few moments Harry calmed down, his trills becoming quiet and his tears becoming sniffles.
Draco looked close at Harry's eye and saw how his pupil was large again. Harry rubbed his eye and looked at Draco.
Draco smiled a little at him as he ran his fingers through Harry's hair. Harry leaned into the touch, his quiet trills becoming a soft purr.
"It'll all be fine okay?" Draco said quietly. He knew he had to bring Harry out of the mindset he slipped in as they had charms.
"Cmon then birdy let's wash our face?" He suggested, looking at the dried trails of tears on Harry's face.
Harry let out an amused huff at the nickname and nodded at the suggestion and peeled himself away from Draco.
Draco led Harry to the bathroom and Harry quickly washed his face. His pupils have shrunk in size but not enough to indicate Harry sinking back to a human mindset.
"Cmon now Scarface we have twenty minutes before charms, let's get you sorted"
Harry hummed in agreement, then he pointed at Draco's shoulder that had a wet patch from Harry. Draco looked at it but shrugged his shoulders.
"It's fine it'll dry" he said, "let's try tame your hair a little bit though"
Harry sat back down on the sofa and watched Draco summon a hairbrush, Draco stood behind the sofa and ran a hand through Harry's hair.
"It shouldn't be too bad.." he hummed as he softly ran the brush in Harry's hair.
It didn't take long for Draco to retract his statement. Harry's hair seemed to work against the brush, not even letting it move in the hair.
Draco huffed in defeat as he took away the brush, grumbling while walking to the bedroom.
Harry laughed a little at Draco's expression as he walked away, his pupils dilated to a normal size as he returned back to a human mindset. He felt better than what he did a few moments ago, finally calmed down enough in time for charms.
