Chapter 8: Strife the Teacher, Vytal Festival, Black and White
After they went back from their mission and brought back his uncle, they immediately reported to the headmaster's office. It was almost five in the morning when they arrived, good thing they slept in the bullhead. Strife who was in his Nephilim form, since his nephew had explained to him that Ozpin and his companion, Glynda, already knew of his origins, he thought that didn't matter if he revealed his Nephilim form to them. When he got into the office, the gunslinger looked at the surroundings of the room. In honesty, this doesn't put it inside the list of 'the many weird places that he encountered', but almost getting there. Not to mention the school's architecture when he first saw it. It was a castle he thought, but still he had seen a bigger castle than this.
Still, though, it was cool.
"Welcome back, team RWBY and Mr. Hopkins," he started as the headmaster looked at his students, then he looked at the new person in his office.
"And you must be… Strife, your nephew has told me everything about you and… what you are," he told the person. Strife narrowed his eyes, and while this Ozpin person already knew who he was, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was weirding him out about this old man. Regardless if his nephew said that the man deemed no harm then he would trust his nephew, but still, he will keep his guard up.
"Strife, at your service," he bowed, which the headmaster let out a 'hmm' sound, and Glynda rolled her eyes at the dramatic scene.
"Alright students, since you have completed your mission to investigate the area, I here by saying to the five of you well done," he said, but the students, especially the girls didn't seem happy over about the news.
"Professor… We don't feel happy about it," Weiss said.
"Yeah professor, those villagers… they died before we even began to save them," Ruby said as tears welled up on the edge of her eyes. Ozpin let out a sigh at the sad faces of the students.
"Yes… I am aware of the findings but don't feel overly sad about it, team RWBY," Ozpin tried to encourage the girls.
"Indeed, you girls didn't know about what could have transpired upon the village, but even if your team couldn't save them, you have brought us valuable information," Glynda joined to encourage them with her commanding voice.
"And also, your team brought someone over," Ozpin ended as he motioned toward Shaun's uncle. The comments slightly lightened the team's mood and they smiled at their professors.
"Now, then I supposed you girls must been very exhausted over the mission," Ozpin said.
"You got that right, professor," Yang yawned despite already sleeping on the way here. Blake followed her partner's action as she yawned herself too. Shaun looked at the scene, especially Blake, and blushed a bit as he thought she looked cute.
'Ah, what is wrong with me,' he thought as kept his cool.
"Now, then since your team has known the secret of Shaun's nature and the new enemy that has been uncovered, I promised you four that this secret must remain hidden," Ozpin said towards them.
"Professor, don't you think it's best that we tell the world what we are up against?" Blake voiced her opinion. Before Ozpin could reply, Shaun beat him.
"You may be right, Blake, but think of it this way if you told the world what these new creatures are, the general population would panic and because of that, the Grimm would be swarming towards the populations, and to top it all, we still don't know where Lilith would be. So, our best chance is to keep this in the dark, and if the population is wondering what these creatures are…"
"… We can just tell them that they are a new type of Grimm," Ozpin finished the half Nephilim's explanation. Blake pondered a bit by the explanation, now that she thought about it, Shaun was right, but still thought.
"Don't worry about it, if the demons came here, you can count on the two of us, me and my nephew Shaun here," Strife said as he put his arm around his nephew's shoulders, shaking them while doing so. The four girls looked at the duo and smiled, grateful that two people knew how to deal with these so-called demons.
"Now then, I supposed the four of you girls have exhausted yourself after the mission, don't worry today there are no classes since the professors are taking a vacation that day," the headmaster announced.
"Yeah! No classes and no sleep interruptions!" Yang pumped up her arm towards the ceiling. Weiss let out a tired sigh, Ruby, who recovered from her sadness before, let out a yawn.
"Well then, team RWBY, you may leave my office," he said. The team then went to the elevator, but just as Shaun and his uncle were about to follow them, the headmaster stopped them.
"Except you Shaun and your uncle," he said. The girls looked at them wondering why the two were stopped. Shaun looking at his friend's gaze let out a reassuring smile.
"It's ok you guys, must be something that me and my uncle need to discuss," he said to them. With this, the girls accepted his reasoning and they went inside the elevator. When the elevator door closed, the headmaster addressed the two people he wanted to discuss.
"Now that the four of us are alone, I wanted to discuss how will we deal with these new enemies. Strife, you said that there's a demon queen in Remnant, who is she?"
"The demon queen, A.K.A Lilith, is the most powerful demon, she was the one who created the Nephilim… that included me," he then explained that the demon queen was creating a portal to find his nephew Shaun in another universe, which was Remnant. He then told them that he was tasked to kill Lilith by the Charred Council, and then he told them that when he found her, she was already finishing the said portal.
"… and after I went into that unstable portal, I woke up in the forest, with no Lilith in sight," he finished his story. The room went silent as the professors pondered the information.
"So, you mean that you're stuck here, with no way to go back?" Glynda asked the gunslinger.
"Yes, although, I should probably try to search Lilith now… but something kept messing with this gizmo that the demon merchant bastard gave to me," he let the others look at the thing on his armored hand, it was a circular device with markings that the two professors can't read, but the half Nephilim knew what those markings were.
'Demon runes, huh?' he thought. For some reason, Shaun could understand any languages that he had seen. He asked about it towards his uncle and father and they explained that it was a trait that the Nephilim only possessed.
"I see… well then if we encounter any demons, we will be sure to report these sightings of these demons to you and Shaun immediately," the headmaster said to his uncle.
"Now then, there's a matter that I wanted to discuss with you, Strife…" he said.
Two weeks later
"So, I wonder what this new class will teach us?" Weiss asked the group. Today was like the usual for team RWBY and JNPR, but today was something new. The headmaster just announced a new class for the first years, what class exactly they didn't know since the headmaster didn't tell them anything besides that.
"I don't know, Weiss, but something tells me that it's going to be fun!" Ruby exclaimed.
"Oh-oh, I hope they teach us how to smash Grimm with hammers!" Nora said with her wicked smile.
"I think it is not about that, Nora," Pyrrha said to the hammer girl the girl's pout resulted in laughter coming from the others, Shaun included.
"But seriously, if there's a new class, who will be teaching?" Yang asked them. Shaun knew who would be teaching the said new class and what he would be teaching involved…
"Wow! There are so many guns!" Ruby shouted. Shaun observed around the room. There were rows of seats at the back of the room, then in the front of the said seats was a clearing and some target practice. He then looked where Ruby pointed where the firearms were displayed. Indeed, there are different varieties of firearms such as shotguns, rifles, and more. Once he stopped his musing, he went to the seats where all the first-year students were seated.
"Wow, quite the room," Yang whistled as she marveled at the class, they were in.
'Jeez, uncle did you ask Ozpin to do all of this,' he thought.
Then suddenly, another door from inside the room opened and there revealed the person coming into this classroom.
"Hello there, students," he said, none other than the half Nephilim's uncle, Strife in his human form. The students stopped their chatting and looked at the person in front of them. (AN: Just picture his outfit as the same as Darksiders 3, yeah, I suck at writing clothes ).
"Introduction First, my name is Jones Hopkins, and I'll be your new teacher for this new class for this year only; Range Weapon class. Here, you'll be taught how to shoot your firearms and how to develop new techniques to use with your range weapons," he explained to them. From among the students, there was a person who jotted up their hand.
"Yes?"
"Umm, sir, if someone who doesn't possess any kind of firearms?" the person who asked the question was Jaune.
"Good question, well they will have now today. As you see, the firearms you see here," he motioned at the range weapons on his left, "are for you to choose," he said. Once he answered Jaune's question another rose their hand.
"Yes?"
"If our fighting style does not need any firearms, wouldn't be useless for us to have them," some student asked.
"Well you may be right but let us demonstrate it, shall we?" he said to them all. Shaun had a very bad feeling when he heard his uncle say that.
"Oh no…" he muttered. Blake looked at his savior with a questioning look.
"What's wrong, Shaun?"
"Let's just say… my uncle would probably ask me to come down there and fight him," after he said that, Strife (Jones) looked at him.
"How about you, then" his uncle pointed to him. He sighed as he went to where his uncle was. Once he was there, he looked at his smiling uncle and he smiled back.
"Well-well isn't it the 'Grim Reaper Huntsman', or should I say nephew," he said. The students all gasped at hearing that excluding team RWBY.
"Wait-wait, Professor Jones is Shaun's uncle?" Jaune asked his friends.
"Yup," Yang answered for him. This information didn't surprise team RWBY. Blake who looked at the scene below gave a curious expression towards the demonstration, wondering how it would play out. Back with the uncle and nephew, Shaun observed his uncle's hands. When he was fifteen, he once had a spar with his uncle and although he had quite a fight towards his uncle, it didn't avoid his inevitable defeat.
'but that was three years ago… let's see how much I'm improving now,' he thought. He put on his mask and drew his hood.
"Well, we didn't quite see each other for three years, let's see how much you have improved," Strife smirked. He first let out a stream of bullets towards his nephew, which the nephew easily avoided. Shaun then used his teleportation to instantly be in front of his uncle.
"Now, when you have firearms, you can easily use them to shoot blindly when you're in a tight situation like I am in," the gunslinger said to the students inside the classroom. Strife then loosed a couple of shots toward Shaun's chest. The half Nephilim uses his shadows to protect himself from the hail of bullets.
"And then, when your opponent is disoriented, you take the chance to shoot them in between their eyes," The gunslinger then let out a bullet toward his nephew. Shaun who surprised at the quick shot narrowly avoiding the single bullet by tilting his head down. He even didn't have time to look at his uncle when suddenly he was tackled at the ground and a single pistol was at his forehead.
"Then when that didn't work, you simply moved towards them in quick succession, and went for the kill," Strife said to his class. The said class was in amazement at the scene before them, the way their professor moved was so fast and the way he carried his attack was precise and calculated.
"Did you see that?!" Ruby said with stars in her eyes. She had to admit the way Shaun's uncle used his firearms flawlessly not to mention how fast he reloaded his two pistols.
"That was so fast…" Blake said, discarding her book minutes ago to see the demonstration. The sheer skills that Shaun's uncle possessed with his firearms were unlike those she had never seen before, in the White Fang some had great skill with their range weapons, but they were unlike what she had seen.
"Oh-oh, Ren, did you see that! He shoots like bam! And then he got to Shaun with a WOOSH!" Nora said shaking her male friend.
"Yes, Nora! I know, but can you please let me go," Lie Ren said which the orange-haired hammer girl complied.
Back with Shaun, he knew that his uncle was holding back. The demonstration was meant to show how much a firearm was important to them, not to display his uncle's more… unworldly abilities.
'but despite that… I am surprised that I can still hold him this long,' he thought. This was the first time he was still standing despite receiving his uncle's range attacks. When he was fifteen, he was struggling to do so, but now?
'yeah I have gotten stronger, Uncle,' he thought as looked at his uncle's form. His uncle smirked at his nephew, he knew that his nephew was stronger now, and looking at him now, how big he was, how skillful with his scythes, it just reminded him more about his older brother, Death.
'Yup, I'm proud of you, nephew,' he said as he approached his nephew and lent his hand towards him which he accepted.
"Well, that's all for the demonstration. Today, let's see how well you do with your range weapons, and for the ones who don't have any or don't possess one, you're pleased to take one firearm from the left side of the room," he motioned again the range weapons on his left. So, then all students were tasked to practice their range attacks and how they improve on them. Shaun was leaning on the wall and watched them all use their firearms. Now, why he doesn't join them is because his uncle appointed him as his assistant.
And he doesn't mind about it.
'Hmm not bad,' as he watched Jaune used a dust pistol. The students were given target dummies with the said dummies were holograms. He then shifted his view toward team RWBY specifically Blake. Shaun was… he doesn't know how to describe it, but he was just mesmerized by the way she used her range weapon, her calculating gaze, and whenever she wiped off her sweat from her forehead…
"Hey, Remnant to Shaun," he was cut off from his… gaze when he looked to who just addressed him. The voice belonged to none other than Yang.
"Oh uh, yes, Yang?" he asked her. Yang smirked at him. She knew that Shaun was staring at her partner for quite a while and well she felt kind of bad when she stopped his gaze.
"Well, it's just that did you know that your uncle would be teaching?"
"Yeah, it was what Ozpin was discussing with us before when you and your team went inside the elevator,"
"Oh, ok then, well don't forget after this my team will be going to the city, ok?"
"Yeah, I know, but I have something to do first,"
"Oh, what is that?" Yang asked curious.
"My uncle is asking me to help him with administrating your grades," He said as he took notes on the students who had finished shooting their dummies. The half Nephilim is grading their precision, the way they used their firearms, and how many they have used their bullets.
"Well, ok then, we'll see you after that, yeah?" she said as she bid farewell and went back to her team which had finished their shooting.
After his uncle's class was done, the half Nephilim and his uncle walked to his office. While they were on their journey to go there, they took the time to have a conversation with themselves.
"So, how did I do?" his uncle asked him.
"Well, surprisingly good uncle, I mean you taught me how to use firearms when I was little, so teaching a class must be not hard for you, right?" Strife laughed at the response.
"Yeah, you're right. They have potential, even if some of them are still green," the gunslinger recalled towards some people who caught his eyes on the skills with their firearms.
"There are two people who have good accuracy and precision with their ranged weapons,"
"Oh, yeah who is it, uncle?"
"Ruby Rose and Pyrrha Nikos," his uncle said which was not a surprise for Shaun.
"Yeah, I agree, uncle. In my time here in Beacon, I have seen them use their ranged weapons better than any first-years here in Beacon, their accuracy and precision are good," Shaun explained which his uncle nodded.
"Well, good to know,"
Soon, they have arrived at the teacher's office. As Strife opened the door, they were greeted by none other than Ms. Goodwitch. Before the two males entered the room, the professor was already there thirty minutes ago. The reason why she was here was to check on the new teacher, Jones. She was quite annoyed that she was forced to wait for the Nephilim, good thing she already had a snack, or she would be waiting with an empty stomach.
"You're late, Jones," she said eyes narrowing at the said person.
"I recalled that we were supposed to meet here at," he looked at the clock on the wall, "… noon," he said to her.
"No, we do not, we were supposed to meet thirty minutes ago," she said in an annoying tone.
"Jeez, sorry Goodwitch, don't bust your crop at this little thing so much," he said in a laid-back tone, which made the said female growled. She then took a long breath to calm herself, arguing about this will only lead to wasting her time with him.
"Well, I am to inform you that there will be a meeting amongst the teachers here in this academy to discuss the Vytal Festival and inform the others that you are a new teacher for Beacon Academy that specializes in range weapons," she said to him, as Jones listened.
"… does it involve me dealing with paperwork? Because I have plenty right now," he said, motioning to Shaun holding a stack of papers. The headmistress rolled her eyes from the statement and she let a frown.
"No, it will not, I am honestly questioning Ozpin why you are assigned to be a teacher in this academy," Glynda put her hand on her face, nursing a headache.
"Well, one lady, I can teach new knowledge to them because I lived over a million years, and two, you can see my finest student that is my nephew here," he then shook Shaun's shoulder as the result of the stack of papers began to fall off, but the half Nephilim quickly uses his shadows to grab all the papers and then stack them all up on his uncle's table.
"See, he even had great reflexes… because of me—"
"And father,"
"Yes, and his father, so that is why Ozpin decided that it is great for me to teach the first years and become a teacher," he said with a smirk. The headmistress pinched her nose at the answer, if she keeps talking with him, her head will explode.
"Alright-alright I get it, I suppose that is a reasonable conclusion…"
"Of course, it is jeez," Shaun chuckled at his uncle's antics which in a rare moment, Glynda let out a small smile, which she quickly wiped off from her face.
"Well, now I will leave since all has been said to you, Mr. Jones," she said.
"Aww, you're leaving already? but we just have a good moment right there," The headmistress after hearing that, blushed and immediately left his office. The two males looked at the scene with confusion.
"Uncle… what did we just see?"
"That Shaun my nephew, we just witnessed something rare from a lady as caliber like her,"
"And what is that, uncle?"
"… embarrassment," he only said with a knowing look which the half Nephilim chuckled. Well, he had to admit it was quite funny when his uncle talked with Ms. Goodwitch moments ago, it looked like he was flirting with her.
Shaun widened his eyes, did he?
'Nah, he wouldn't, uncle sometimes told me stories of his past with women,' he thought. His uncle always played with women, he asked him about it and he simply said, 'Because it was fun,' which Shaun rolled her eyes. He then compared it to when he talked with Blake when they met at the usual spot on the rooftops. She always got flustered whenever he tried to tell her funny stories and gave little compliments about her looks.
Wait… did he unconsciously flirting with her all this time?
He blushed at the thought. Shaking his head to get rid of the feeling, he then turned towards his uncle. Right now, his uncle was sitting on his chair doing nothing except lazing off.
"Well, uncle, if it isn't anything you need from me anymore, I'll go," the half-Nephilim said.
"Oh, yeah sure, but by the way, where are you heading?"
"Team RWBY asked me to accompany them to Vale," he was honestly curious about the place, even if he already visited villages from his travels, visiting a city full of people, he was looking up to going there.
"Wow, playing with four girls? Damn, nephew, if Death can see you now," his uncle said with a laugh which Shaun let out a sigh.
"They are my friends, Uncle…"
"I sensed a but in there—"
"Ok, one of them I have feelings which I'll tell her later, happy?" Shaun said flustered which was a new feeling he experienced. His uncle only laughed louder, which made the half-Nephilim let out a frustrated sigh.
"Ok-ok, you can go, have fun!" he said, and Shaun then quickly got out of his office.
Vale City
After taking a bullhead and landed at their destination, they began to explore the city. Shaun being the first time coming to a city that isn't destroyed felt in awe. He saw cars, people, and children all with a smile, it was refreshing to see a lively city, not a barren wasteland full of draughts and demons that needed to be dealt with.
"Alright, guys! What shall we do first?" Ruby asked them as they stopped their walk.
"I supposed we should go to the port to see the other students from other academies," Weiss suggested. Yang snorted after hearing her teammate's suggestion.
"Boring, it's still in the afternoon, the other students will not be arriving until evening," Yang reasoned. Weiss grumbled at what Yang said.
"Well, we can go to the library," Blake suggested.
"Or maybe we can go shopping," Yang grinned. Ruby then asked the half Nephilim who was still in a state of bewilderment over his surroundings.
"Hey, Shaun, do you want to go somewhere?" Ruby asked him which interrupted his sightseeing.
"Well… to be honest I don't have a clue where should I go first," he scratched his head. The group's reactions were understanding, now that they knew his origins and where he came from, they knew that their friend was confused with his decision.
"You know Shauny, I never see you with any other clothes except with the black jacket you have and the cloak. Perhaps you want to buy new clothes?" Yang suggested Shaun had to admit he only had the clothes that he currently has right now and the ones for whenever he got to bed.
"I guess new clothes should suffice…"
"Oh-oh and how about we visit the weapons store next, Shaun? I mean we can search for any new weapons for you to use!" Ruby said to him with stars in her eyes which made him smile.
"Sure thing," Shaun then looked at the other members, well particularly Blake who had an amused face at him. Shaun then got an idea for what he wanted to visit next.
"How about the library? After visiting the weapon's store?" he suggested to the group.
"Ugh… boring Shaun, but still if you want to go there you can ask Blakey here to go," Yang said with a teasing smile which elicited a small blush from her partner.
"S-sure," the Faunus in disguise replied. Shaun let out an amused expression at that. Soon enough the girls and the half Nephilim began their small trip across the city. First, they went to the clothing store just as Yang suggested.
Shaun marveled at the clothes around them. Back on Earth, stores like this were left in ruins, the places were filled with dust, wild vines, and of course, your typical hell creatures that used these places to set up their hunting ground for humans to capture. Now? It was clean, with clothes upon clothes that were in good condition.
Suddenly he was dragged across all the clothing sections. The girls, specifically Yang and surprisingly Weiss, took it upon themselves to help him pick some new clothes for him, when he spotted a jacket that was similar to his own, they immediately turned him down. The two girl's reasons were that it was too boring (It was Yang who said that) and they wanted him to have something new for him to purchase. He sighed at their reason, but his choice would be still some type of jacket and hoodie.
After a couple of minutes, Shaun and his friends got out of the store with Shaun carrying the four girl's shopping bags plus his. Good thing he has super strength and his sorcery, or his arms would be sore after carrying their bags. The next destination that they were going to visit was the weapon shop that Ruby suggested. When he looked inside the shop, he was amazed by the shop's weapons and armor that were displayed for the buyers to see.
"Isn't cool Shaun?" Ruby asked him with stars in her eyes. Shaun chuckled at her and gave her a head pat which she didn't mind.
"Yeah it is," he then caught something from his view. Shaun then approached the thing that caught his interest. It was a weapon, its size was massive, it had a hammer at the end of the pole, and there was a chamber at the hammer which Shaun deduced was for the dust to be stored.
"You like what you see there, kid?" a man said, Shaun looked at his left to see the shopkeeper.
"Yeah, sir," the half Nephilim said, as he traced his hand across the weapon.
"This right here is a dust-powered hammer, capable of wiping out Grimm in your surroundings. Its specialty is it's utilized fire dust and ice dust so that the Grimm surrounding you will not be able to go near you, and this weapon right here could easily break Ursa's hide and a dead stalker's armor," the man finished his explanation. Shaun has to admit this weapon is very good, it is useful if he needs to have space. Well despite only having scythes as his only weapon, it could not hurt to have another weapon, especially a heavy one.
'Besides, father always uses heavy weapons that he salvaged throughout his travels,' Shaun once saw his father wield some type of hammer like this one, but it was massive. He once asked where he got it and Death explained that he salvaged it from when he saved a human from a demon named, Abyssal.
"It is… a fine craftsmanship you have here, sir," Shaun complemented the weapon, to which the shopkeeper chuckled.
"Ah well thank you, young man. Perhaps, you are interested in purchasing the weapon?"
"Sure thing, sir" The shopkeeper grinned, happy that a customer purchased one of his crafts.
"Good, to be honest kid, you are the first person to ever purchase this particular weapon,"
"How so? Does everybody not want to buy this weapon?"
"Nah, everyone these days prefers ranged weapons, swords, you know the one-handed kinds," he explained. Then, the shopkeeper directed towards his cashier. There he saw Ruby and Yang waiting for him with their ammo bags.
"Ooh, what you got there, Shauney? Yang asked him as she looked at the weapon he was holding on. Ruby, who was preoccupied by the weapons around her, suddenly darted her attention to him.
Well, especially his newest weapon.
"WOW! WHAT IS THAT?! A NEW WEAPON!" She said as rose petals went beside him. Ruby had stars on her eyes as she looked at the new weapon his scythe buddy had in his grasp.
"Yeah it is Ruby," he then slightly lifted the weapon for Ruby to see, "this is a dust-powered hammer, I decided that I wanted to purchase it because I remember that my father used a similar heavy weapon like this," he explained to them. Shaun then realized that Weiss and Blake were not present in his vision.
"By the way, where's Weiss and Blake?"
"Oh, Weiss just got a call from his father about some company matters, she said, she needs to check one of the company's branches in Vale," Yang replied.
"As for Blake, she is outside, reading like usual," Ruby finished up her sister's answer.
"I see, well I guess I am going to pay for this weapon. I see you outside," he said.
"Oh, about that, I and Ruby decided to head somewhere else, which means—" she then let out a teasing smile.
"You'll be going alone with Blake to the library," Yang said with a mischievous look. Shaun let out a sigh as he figured out what Yang just did, leaving him alone with his… crush, but well he didn't mind it.
Just that he didn't want to satisfy Yang's teasing.
"Sure thing, that would be great even," he said to her with a smirk.
"Heh, you hide your embarrassment very well, Shauney," she then left with his sister and the sister said her farewell. After Shaun paid for his weapon, he got out of the store and tried to look for Blake. Using his Death sense, he smirked as he felt Blake's presence on his left. As he turned his head towards the left, he felt a finger poking his cheek.
"Got you," the Faunus in disguise chuckled.
"Nah, I just let you win this time," he smirked, which earned him a playful jab to his left shoulder. They began to walk side by side together. With Blake, she felt excited for some reason, she knew she had feelings for him, and she suspected that he also had feelings for her, but she decided to not tell him about it now.
'Not the time…' she thought to herself.
"Blake?"
"Y-yeah," Blake was startled when she was interrupted by her thoughts.
"I was wondering where the bookstore is?" he chuckled which earned him a blush from her.
"Well, I know a place, it's a friend from… you know," she said, which Shaun caught about what she meant.
"I see…" Blake then noticed something new from his back.
"You bought a new weapon?" she asked.
"Yeah, might come in handy when facing multiple enemies and create distance between me and them," he explained which Blake nodded.
Then the two began to head to the bookstore, Blake explained that the bookstore was the best one in Vale since the books contained were quite new and had a good atmosphere around the place. Soon, they arrived at the place, Shaun looked at the sign that wrote 'Tukson's Book Trade'. Upon entering the bookstore, Shaun observed his surroundings. Many books are lined up on the shelves in an organized manner with the comic section at the front, and novels in the middle and back.
At the back of the cashier, there was a man, who wore a short-sleeved quarter-zip burgundy and black shirt with a visible white undershirt. The man who was busy checking out the list of books he had purchased, turned to look in their direction.
"Well… it is been a while, Blake," he said as he put down the stack of papers. Blake grinned as she walked to the man with Shaun following her.
"Yeah, it's been a while, Tukson," the man grinned back, he then noticed the half-Nephilim beside her.
"Well hello there, you must be Blake's friend," he said as he offered the half Nephilim a handshake which the half Nephilim took it.
"Yes, I am, my name is Shaun Hopkins,"
"Tukson, a pleasure to meet you, Hopkins," Shaun nodded.
"Well, Blake, what can I get for you?"
"Has it come out yet?" Blake asked in anticipation. Tukson chuckled at her eagerness.
"Yeah, you can find it at the back," he pointed at the shelves at the back of the room. Shaun chuckled too at her eagerness, which earned him a playful jab on his arm.
"What?"
"Nothing, it's just it's the first time I've seen you like this, I mean eager about wanting something," he smiled. Blake blushed at his smile, she then quickly sped off to the shelf where the new volume 'Ninjas of Love currently resided. Shaun smiled and was amused at the scene every time he saw the girl blush made him happy.
And he enjoyed it.
"Well, that's a sight that I never see on her face often," he was cut off from his thoughts. He turned towards the man who was showing a smile of relief.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean the way she interacted with you, it is like when she interacted with Adam Taurus," he said reminiscing the times in the White Fang. He knew Blake when she was little when she often joined the rally even if the general population were throwing you fruits and insults for even trying to voice your beliefs.
But Blake kept strong and the other person who supported her was Adam Taurus. Whenever she felt down, he would be there to lend his shoulder. Tukson was sure that it would have stayed that way even after he left the group, but then Blake came here to his shop looking betrayed, and the rest of he knew the story.
"Seemed it has been a long time you ever seen her like this," Shaun voiced his opinion.
"Yeah… ", he then looked at the half Nephilim, this time with seriousness.
"Hey, can you promise me something?" Shaun looked at the man and beckoned him to continue.
"Can you promise me to be there for Blake? She… had a hard time when she came here to me, she was betrayed and scared. So, can you promise that?" He said at the half Nephilim, as his face showed a serious look.
Without hesitations, Shaun answered the man in front of him.
"I promise, she meant the world to me… the last thing that I wanted to do is to hurt her, so yeah I promise I will be there every step of the way," he said. The former White Fang member observed him to see if there was any deceit in his words. He smiled because of the half Nephilim words were sincere, and he picked up something more from it.
"Thank you… and good luck," he smirked earning a confused look from Shaun. Soon, Blake returned to the cashier with the book in hand. After Blake paid for the book, Shaun excused himself to walk around the bookstore. As he walked around, he stumbled to the novel section. Shaun noticed that the book was one of Blake's novels.
Shaun quickly shook his head, he regretted ever reading that book, the writings and the descriptions of the inappropriate scenes were quite… descriptive.
'Blake, I don't know you are that type of person,' he chuckled to himself as he picked a random novel on the shelf. After he had gotten a book that he wanted to read, he then went back to the cashier. When he arrived, he saw that Blake had a very red face, so red that her skin turned into the colors of a tomato.
"Blake? You alright?" he asked concerned. Blake snapped out of what she was in and in a hurry, she went out of the store. Shaun was confused by the action.
"What was that all about?" he asked Tukson as he handed the book.
"Don't know… you have to ask her yourself," he grinned as he finished scanning the book. After he paid for the book, the half Nephilim exited the store.
'That was very embarrassing…' Blake thought. When Shaun left to search for any novels that he was currently interested in, Tukson told her about what he and Shaun had just discussed.
'He thinks that I meant the world to him…' Blake blushed as she repeated what the man told her. After he told her that, she heard the door behind her opened.
"Uh, Blake, are you alright?" He asked her concerned, she blushed at seeing his concerned face.
"Y-yeah, I'm alright, it's just that he just reminded me of an embarrassing memory that's all," she chuckled. Shaun just stared at her and shrugged.
After that, the two of them went to the location where the others were. Not long after they arrived at the location where the others were.
"Took the two of you long enough," Weiss said.
"Hello to you too, Ice Queen," Shaun retorted, earning a laugh from the other three. Weiss just pouted and turned around to lead the others. Weiss then led them to a street where there were people who were putting banners between buildings.
"Oh! This is wonderful!" Weiss said excitedly.
"I have never seen Weiss smile this wide before… it's creeping me out," Ruby said.
"How could you not smile, a festival dedicated to the cultures of the world? There will be dances, parades, and tournaments. Oh, and the amount of planning and organization is simply breathtaking," The heiress explained.
"You do know how to make something so fun and then turn it into something boring," Yang commented which earned her a 'shush' from Weiss.
"So why are we here exactly, Weiss?" Yang asked her gesturing towards the docks they were at.
"Ugh, this place smells like fish," Ruby pinched her nose because of the smell.
"To answer your question, Yang, we are here because I heard that the students from Vacuo will be visiting here by ship today, so as a representative of Beacon I feel as though it is my solemn duty to welcome them to this fine kingdom,"
"She just wanted to spy on them so she could have the upper hand on the tournament," Blake said.
"No, I won't,"
"I think you are, Weiss," Shaun said which made the heiress pout.
As they were continuing their conversation, Shaun saw at the corner of his eyes a building surrounded by police. As on cue the others also saw the same scene as him. Soon, the group approached the scene. Shaun could see that the building had been barricaded by police tape and multiple shards of glass sprawling on the streets.
"What happened here?" Ruby asked herself.
"Robbery, another dust shop has been robbed this week," the man answered her question as he walked away.
"That's terrible…" Yang voiced her opinion. Then, the man from before who answered Ruby's question was having a conversation with his other co-workers.
"This does not make any sense, they left the money, but they took all the dust. I don't understand, who needs that much dust anyways?"
"I don't know man," the second man answered.
"You think it was the White Fang?" Shaun widened his eyes at hearing that and then looked at Blake, which for a second showed sadness then she erased it.
"Yeah, I'm thinking that we are not being paid enough,"
"Hmph, the White Fang, what an awful bunch of degenerates," soon after the heiress said that the former White Fang member reacted.
"What's your problem?"
"My problem? It's just that I simply don't care about the criminally insane,"
"The White Fang is hardly a bunch of psychopaths. They are a collection of misguided Faunus," Blake said. Shaun could feel that the situation would be getting worse between the two.
"Misguided? They want to wipe out humanity from the face of the planet!" Weiss retorted.
"So, then they are very misguided. Either way, it doesn't explain why they would rob a dust shop in the middle of downtown Vale," Blake explained.
"Blake's got a point, the police haven't caught that Torchwick guy a few months ago… maybe it was him?" Ruby said Shaun was curious about this Torchwick guy, so he asked the little red.
"Torchwick? Who is he?"
"Oh, Roman Torchwick… umm he was the guy I encountered a few months ago," Ruby replied.
"Yeah, and he is also the reason why Ruby was accepted into Beacon," Yang added.
"I see…" Shaun said.
"Anyway… that still does not change that the White Fang is just a bunch of scum, those Faunus only know how to cheat and steal," Weiss said. Shaun could feel the air a lot thicker with tension, as he sensed anger coming from Blake's soul.
"That's not necessarily true," Yang retorted. In a miracle, suddenly they heard a commotion beside them. The half Nephilim could see that two people were chasing a teenager on a boat. The teen has blonde hair, an open-loosed-collared white jacket with no shirt underneath, blue cargo pants, and two red wrist braces over black fingerless gloves. The teenager then leaped from the ship and landed on the docks. The teen then climbed up towards the lamp post and proceeded to hang upside down using his tail.
"Hey, you get down here!" one of them said. The monkey Faunus who had just finished eating his banana, threw the banana peel at the man. The teen then leaped off from the lamppost and continued to run away from his pursuers. The teenager then climbed up the stairs of the docks and in front of him were Shaun and his friends.
The monkey Faunus passed by them, but the half Nephilim saw that the monkey Faunus gave Blake a wink and a smirk. The stowaway teen then passed by them as he was still being pursued by the detectives. Shaun after he saw the teen give a wink at Blake felt a feeling of irritation and jealousy, but he quickly calmed himself down. He hoped that he would not see that Faunus again.
"Well, Weiss you wanted to see the competition, there he goes…" Yang said. Quickly, Weiss asked them to pursue the Faunus. The half-Nephilim and his friends then chased after the Faunus, but the heiress suddenly bumped into another person and the heiress fell, the result was the monkey Faunus got away.
"No! he got away," The heiress whined. Then Yang mentioned the person or girl, and Shaun corrected himself.
"Salutations!" the girl said while still lying on the sidewalk with a smile. Shaun looked at her appearance, light-skinned, curly orange short hair, white blouse, black thigh–high leg pieces, and green eyes. But Shaun could sense something strange with her, specifically her soul…
'Why does her soul feel artificial? It's like… it was made rather than natural, unlike the others…' Shaun thought to himself.
"Umm… are you ok?" Yang asked the girl.
"I am wonderful, thank you for asking," Although they were puzzled as the girl was still lying on the sidewalk.
"Do you want to get up?" Yang asked her. The strange girl said yes as she got up from the floor. They took a step back as the strange girl got up.
"My name is Penny, it is a pleasure to meet you," the girl said.
"Hi Penny, I'm Ruby,"
"I'm Weiss,"
"Blake,"
"Shaun,"
"Are you sure you didn't hit anything on your head?" Blake gave her a nudge, "Oh, I'm Yang,"
"It is a pleasure to meet you," Penny said.
"You've already said that," Weiss said.
"So, that I did," she replied.
"Well, sorry for running into you,"
"Bye friend," Ruby said as they left her alone.
"She was… weird," Yang commented.
Weiss was ranting about the Faunus when suddenly out of nowhere Penny showed up in front of them. Shaun even with his death sense was surprised by the sudden arrival.
"What did you call me?" the strange girl asked them. Yang thought she asked her, knowing she made a bad comment towards the girl, but she then approached Ruby.
"M-Me, I-I don't know what I-I made-" little Red said nervously wondering what she said to the strange girl.
"You called me your friend…" she then leaned her face towards Ruby, "… am I your friend?" Ruby then turned towards her teammates and the half Nephilim. Her teammates gave her a 'no' gesture while Shaun just shrugged and smiled at her.
"Sure… why not," Little Red said, soon after she said that Penny's facial turned into ecstatic.
"Sensational! We can paint our nails and talk about cute boys!" Penny exclaimed.
'Wow sounds like Ruby and Weiss before they met,' he chuckled at the thought while Ruby asked Weiss about the girl's same answers as hers and the heiress's only comment was the girl was too coordinated.
"So… what are you doing in Vale?" Yang asked her.
"Wait, you're fighting in the tournament?" the heiress asked.
"Yes, I am combat-ready," the girl saluted.
"Forgive me you don't look the part,"
"Says the one who is wearing a dress," Blake said.
"It is a combat skirt," the heiress replied, as Ruby joined in too, to defend her.
"I mean for the record you guys aren't wearing outfits suited for combat anyways…" the half Nephilim muttered. Then Weiss realized something as she approached her.
"Wait, if you are in the tournament, that means you know who that monkey-tailed rapscallion is," she said while grasping the girl's shoulders. Shaun felt Blake's soul begin to feel anger. Weiss then continued to fuel the anger more as she used bad names towards the monkey Faunus such as 'filthy Faunus and degenerate'.
"Why do you keep saying that!" Blake said finally releasing her anger.
"Stop calling him a rapscallion, stop calling him a degenerate, he's a person," she said.
"Oh? I'm sorry, would you like me to stop referring to the trash can as the trash can or this lamppost as a lamppost," she sarcastically exclaimed. The mood of the group from happy gone to sour.
"Stop it!"
"Stop what? He broke the law, give it time and he would end up joining the Faunus in the White Fang," she said.
"Ugh, you're an ignorant little brat!" Blake said as she stormed off leaving the group behind.
"Hey! Don't you say that to me, I am your teammate!" Weiss replied as she caught up with her. Soon, they were arguing with each other without any signs that they would going to stop. Meanwhile, the other three looked at the scene with concern.
"I think we should go…" Yang suggested confused about how to deal with this situation.
Shaun looked at the two girls and sighed. He then thought about the two opinions on the matter. While the two seemed in the right, at the same time they were also in the wrong. Weiss's comments make sense, he read news articles about how the White Fang always targeted her family, and he deduced that probably Weiss felt like this because of the number of attacks upon her family name and company. With Blake, Shaun understands her outbursts, being a Faunus herself, her kind was always being mistreated, he even once read about the cave-ins that happened. But the thing is, these cave-ins happened with Faunus who worked with the Schnee, or in this case; slavery. Many articles showed him about these things. And that is why the White Fang targeted the heiress's family.
"Are they going to stop…" Ruby concerned.
"I hope so," Shaun replied to her as they continued to watch the two arguing.
Sometime later
After seeing the city, the group went back to Beacon, even when they got to the academy, the two girls were still arguing about the matter before. After they finally made it into their team dorm, Shaun excluded himself he then gave Yang and Ruby their bags (Weiss and Blake's also) filled with their clothes to them. Soon, he finally was back in his dorm room and immediately put all the new clothes inside his wardrobe.
After that, he drew his weapon from his back and inspected it. To be honest, he should have brought one of those hammers or mace from Earth, he kept all those weapons from whenever he returned from killing Demon lords or some fallen angels he had taken from. Then again, he rarely used them since he didn't think he needed them in the first place.
'But eh, it was just a couple of times I used those heavy weapons on my fights,' he reminisced as he traced his hammer-like weapon. Surely, Nora would approve of him for possessing a hammer such as hers.
He then put the weapon back on his back again, and just as he was about to change into his nightwear, he got a call from his scroll. He looked at the screen and there was Blake's name written on it. He wondered what was going on and so he answered her call.
"Blake?"
With Blake
"I-I n-need you," She said as quiet sobs left from her mouth on her scroll. It was so sudden their arguing was so intense that she revealed her secrets to her team. The secrets about she was once a member of the White Fang and that she was a Faunus. After revealing her secret, she runs away… just like she always did whenever the situation was compromising her cover or getting out of hand.
She runs, and runs until her feet tire out, the girl stops in front of the statue located in front of the academy. Observing the statues, two people, a huntsman, and a huntress stood upon a ledge with Beowulf on the bottom. She noticed that her dream of becoming a huntress, to prove that Faunus and Humans could achieve peace together… was all gone. She then carefully removed her bow, it unveiled a pair of cat ears, the secret that she was trying to hide from her team.
She wiped a tear from her eye, she was alone… but then she remembered the person who saved her from that day, the kindest guy who didn't even care if she was different, the one who didn't stand idly if her kind was being harassed. And that we got into the present, as she quietly sobbed that night in front of the statue waiting for her savior.
"You know… those cat ears looked good on you, I was wondering what kind of Faunus you were," someone said as she stopped her sobs and looked up. Standing there was her savior, the so-called 'Grim Reaper Huntsman' as he displayed concern towards her. Without thinking, she leaped at her savior and hugged him tightly as she didn't want to let go of him.
"There-there…" he said as he rubbed her back soothingly. They continued to stay in this position for a while until Blake calmed down. The girl then looked at his face, still hugging him.
"I-I messed up…"
"I know… I should have stopped the two of you right there in the city, I'm sorry I didn't," he said sad at what he didn't do.
"No… it would bound to happen anyways…" she said as she leaned on his chest, Shaun felt his heart beating faster at the contact, but he calmed down. Now was not the best time to feel embarrassed, it was time to help the girl he had feelings for.
"So… what do you want to do now," the half Nephilim looking at the cat Faunus.
"Now… I should probably take some space with my team… but I don't know if I want to come back to them…" she said feeling sadder.
"Why do you think like that?"
"Because I kept a secret from them… I hid that I was a Faunus, I hid that I was from the White Fang… and I even threw bad words towards Weiss, and then in a panic after what I revealed to them… I ran away. I'm afraid if I come back again… I will not be welcome…" she said as the thought saddened her. Shaun felt her body shaking again, he pulled her closer and stroked her hair to calm her down.
"I think… they will understand, I mean I kept a big secret from the four of you. I thought that would be the end, that you and the others would see me differently… as some freak that you don't know about, but you four still see me as your friend and understand why I didn't tell you guys. So, if you come back and explain why you kept that secret from them, they will understand and forgive you, Blake Belladonna," he said with confidence and a smile. She looked at her savior with widened eyes, and then she let out a genuine smile at him, as she realized that this guy that saved her months ago was helping her so much.
She was glad that she had feelings for him…
"Wow, that was the first time I heard you talk this much to me," she smirked and giggled. Shaun let out a chuckle of his own.
"Well, if you asked me to do this again… I don't mind," he said to her. That comment made her blush, as she unwrapped her arms around her savior and gave him a playful jab.
"Har-har…" she said as she laughed. The half Nephilim let out a sigh of relief, seeing his crush feeling better.
"Hey, Shaun?" Blake stopped her laugh after a while.
"Yes Blake?" he asked her, she turned to him keeping her genuine smile on her face.
"Thank you," she said, now this time the half Nephilim felt his cheeks getting warm, good thing that his scarf blocked them from showing it to her.
"You're welcome,"
"Well, I think… I should find a place to sleep since I can't go back to my dorm," she said. Blake was about to go when Shaun stopped her by grabbing her arm.
"… I'll go with you, I don't want you to feel alone," he said scratching his head. Blake giggled at Shaun's embarrassment, Yang was trying so hard to make him embarrassed, but here she was, easily making him embarrassed with no effort.
"I love that," she said to him with a smile. Soon the two went to take a bullhead and flew to Vale. Unbeknownst to them, a certain monkey Faunus was following them from behind.
Morning, Vale City
After that night and arriving at Vale, the two teens were thankful to find a hotel that was still open that night. Shaun offered his money to buy a room for the night, which the girl was thankful for him to do. The room they were in only had a living room, a bathroom, and one bedroom with only one single bed. Shaun suggested that Blake should take the bed and he took the couch. Shaun remembered that night after he said that he could briefly see sadness, but she quickly erased it.
Shaun was confused by that, but he let it slide.
Soon sleeping for a night turned into two nights since the two of them didn't want to search any hotels until Blake decided they should check out that morning. Now here he was with the girl sitting in front of the cafe enjoying their hot beverages. Shaun looked at the girl in front of him, after that night, her condition was devastated he had never seen her like this before, but now he could feel that she was getting a little better…
He hoped.
"So, this is what coffee tasted like? Huh," he chuckled as he sipped his beverage. The girl in front of him also chuckled.
"Yeah, is this the first time you are drinking coffee?"
"Yeah it does, I was about to try this you know? But, well I don't have the time to until now," he replied. She smiled at him, his first experience tasting a new food or drink was adorable to her. Moments like this brought back memories of her team. She admitted that spending time with her teammates was the best time in her life. Seeing Ruby's muttering about weapons, Yang's puns that sure were bad, and surprisingly… Weiss's scolding towards Ruby and Yang's antics.
"I missed them so much…" she said.
"You know, we can just go back to them, right?" he said as he was finishing up his coffee. Blake only shook her head.
"Not now… it's just there's something that bothers me,"
"What is it?"
"I just don't think that the White Fang are all behind these robberies, they didn't need this much dust before," she voiced her opinion to him.
"What if they did? I mean, I read all the articles about the attacks that the White Fang all had done and Blake, the evidence was heavily pointed towards them that they were doing these robberies," the half-Nephilim replied. Blake now was loss for words, now there was no way she could find out if the White Fang wasn't doing these robberies.
"Perhaps… I can help," someone said, startling the two. The two looked at the new person who approached them.
"It's you, you're that guy who was being pursued by security docks," Blake pointed out. The monkey Faunus only gave her a salute while showing his toothy grin.
"That's me! Hello, my name is Sun Wukong, leader of team SSSN from Shade Academy, pleasure to meet you two," he said. Shaun narrowed his eyes at the guy, how did he find them? Is it possible he was following them all this time? Somehow, he could answer those two questions rather easily.
"You followed us here, did you?" Shaun said to him still narrowing his eyes. Sun scratched his head in an awkward moment.
"Well… you see, two days ago, I saw her crying in front of Beacon. I was about to approach you when you suddenly showed up," he said.
"That doesn't explain why you are following us," the half Nephilim pointed out. Sun could swear that the air just felt very chilly all of a sudden.
"I-I'm getting to that!" he flailed his arms, "… I wanted to help you guys, that's why," he answered him. Shaun was about to ask more, but the half-Nephilim felt an arm holding him. He looked at the owner of the arm and saw Blake looking at him with determination.
"Hear him out, please…" she said to him. Shaun sighed as he motioned the guy to grab a seat.
"I heard you guys were discussing about the White Fang and heard that you two, umm…" he pointed out to Blake.
"Blake, Blake Belladonna," she simply said as she knew that the monkey Faunus wanted to know her name.
"Shaun Hopkins,"
"… wanted to prove that they aren't responsible for these dust robberies. Well, I think I can help you guys with that," he said to them.
"Explain," Shaun simply said.
"When I was on the ship, I heard that there was going to be a ship full of dust from Atlas coming to Vale,"
"How much?" Blake asked.
"A huge amount of it," Sun said opening his arms wide to emphasize the huge amount of dust.
"You sure it was true?" Shaun asked him.
"I'm sure of it since they were secretive about it. Hell, I almost got caught eavesdropping on them," he said wincing at the memory. Shaun thought for a moment, if what Sun told them was true then there was going to be an army of White Fang storming into the docks.
"When will they come?" Shaun asked him.
Fast forward, the three teens were now on top of a rooftop overlooking the port. Before this, they had formulated a plan for tonight, they would observe the port for any signs of White Fang, and if they were, they would stop the robbery before it even started. Now, it brings us back to the two of them since one of them (Sun Wukong) was absent as they told them that he was going to find food for the three.
Shaun was observing the area like Blake, using his Death sense and Dust, he could span the search further for any White Fang Faunus.
"You found anything, Shaun?" Blake asked from her prone position. Dust was returning to him as the crow gave him news.
"Nothing from Dust or my senses," he told her. Before this, Shaun had told her about his ability to feel and recognize someone's soul. Blake quickly understands how Shaun was able to notice her without even looking at her from behind.
"How about you?" Shaun asked her in return as he let Dust scout the area again.
"None from me," Blake replied. Then they heard a thud from behind them. Shaun who had already known that it was Sun, turned to him. He was greeted by Sun carrying apples in his arms.
"Did I miss anything?" he asked them. Shaun sighed at the guy.
"Nothing, it is just quiet around here," Blake replied to him. Just after she said that Shaun's crow returned to him delivering news.
"Dust found something," the crow pointed its beak towards a section of the port. There was a group of people, who were currently offloading the dust from one of the shipments, one by one the shipments of dust were being opened and the crates containing the dust were brought out from the containers. Then after that, the group was just standing there as one of them was talking into their scroll.
"Why are they only just sitting there?" she voiced her opinion realizing something in the miss.
"Something tells me that they are waiting for something or someone," Shaun replied narrowing at the group. The half Nephilim then felt a hand on his shoulder.
"Hey, you want an apple?" Shaun lifted an eyebrow, but the half-Nephilim accepted his offer.
"Thanks… btw, I wanted to say sorry for before," Shaun said to him. To be honest, the monkey Faunus didn't feel so bad, it's just he was just suspicious of him at first and probably from before at the docks when he winked at his crush, but he still just wanted to apologize to the teen.
Because that is what his mother always said, always apologize to someone.
"Nah, it's fine, you have the right to be like that, so no worries," he said. Shaun smiled at the Faunus.
"Sure thing, Sun," then suddenly they heard a bullhead coming from above them as the vehicle shunned it was like at the port where the group of people was waiting. As the bullhead touched down on the port, the door that led to inside the vehicle opened itself. From within came out the White Fang soldiers with the insignia of their group on the back of their uniforms.
"It's that them?" Sun pointed out after finishing eating his apple.
"Yeah… it's them," Blake frowned at the scene with Shaun looked at her with concern.
"Didn't think they were behind this did you?" Sun asked her.
"No, deep down I just knew. It's just that, I don't want it to be right," she said, Shaun then put his hand on her shoulder to give her his support.
"Let's stop them, together," he said smiling the girl returned his smile.
"Hey! What's the holdup? We're not the most inconspicuous bunch of thieves at the moment," They heard someone shout. From within the bullhead came out another person who was different from the rest. Shaun quickly recognized who it was as he already read the article and the appearance of the man he saw right now, with his bowler hat display, a cane in his hand, a red-lined white suit, and orange hair.
"Roman Torchwick," Shaun said as he looked at the man descending the stairs from the bullhead.
"… so why don't you all animals pick up the pace," Roman said as he looked at the White Fang soldiers with irritation.
"This isn't right, no White Fang would ever work with a human, especially someone like that," Blake said as she stood up from her prone position and immediately leaped off from the building. Sun was about to stop her, but it was too late as she landed on the streets and continued to head over to the group of White Fang. Shaun sighed at the action his crush took as he dawned his mask and followed her also with Sun on his back.
With Blake, she was currently taking a cover from behind a shipment container. She was looking at Roman who was currently scolding one of the soldiers for bringing the wrong rope. Blake took the opportunity to put her blade in front of his throat.
"Nobody moves!" she threateningly said as the soldiers around her drew their blades.
"Woah, easy there, little lady," he said, the White Fang soldiers were approaching her slowly with their blades drawn out. Then Blake decided to take off her bow, the soldiers were then shocked at seeing the girl's cat ears as they stopped their advance to help Roman.
"Brothers of the White Fang! Why are you aiding this scum," she said to them as the soldiers were putting down their weapons, but still kept them.
"Oh kid, didn't you get the memo?"
"What are you talking about?" Roman chuckled at the question.
"The White Fang and I are going in a joint business venture together," he simply said.
"Tell me what it is, or I'll put an end to your little operation,"
"I wouldn't call it a little operation, missy," he said as another bullhead suddenly came, Blake widened her eyes at the new arrival. Roman took the chance while Blake was distracted, to use his cane to fire a dust bullet to the ground as a result an explosion occurred and Blake was pushed away and Roman was free. The explosion was loud it caught the attention of the other two girls one of them was looking for her lost teammate.
Roman didn't skip a second as he shot firedusts towards the girl. Blake was still disoriented, but thankfully her savior came in as he effortlessly parried those attacks with his dual scythes. Roman stopped his shots to look at the new arrival and instantly recognized the individual.
"Well-well if it isn't the 'Grim Reaper Huntsman', didn't expect you to be here. I thought you were on another continent saving people," he said as he rested his cane on his shoulder with the soldiers beside him pointing their guns at the two.
"Well, this also counts as something right? And I am surprised you know me, Roman Torchwick," the thief laughed at the half Nephilim.
"Oh! your reputation is very well known towards the criminal underworld, huntsman," he said. Then suddenly a banana peel was thrown towards Roman's face. The thief grabbed the banana peel from his face and threw it to the side, with Roman distracted Sun delivered a falling two kick toward the thief's face.
"Leave them alone," Sun said as he stood up after kicking the thief. Soon, the other soldiers that were inside another bullhead, fell towards them and positioned themselves beside Roman.
"You are not the brightest banana in the bunch, aren't you kid?" then the White Fang soldiers charged to attack the monkey Faunus. The first soldier went to deliver a slash to the teen, but Sun parried it away and counter-attacked by delivering a punch, then two other soldiers attacked him too, but Sun gave them a roundhouse kick. Soon the battle began to get intense, Sun then drew his weapon from behind his clothing. When he let out his weapon, Ruyi bang and Jingu bang, he quickly transformed it into a bō staff, then he twirled them around so he could hit the soldiers around him. He then smashed his staff to the ground and with his aura, the soldiers were blown away. (AN: Sorry didn't leave any description for Sun's weapon, its for shortening this fight).
Shaun looked at his new friend for a moment and he concluded he didn't need any help for now. The half Nephilim turned his attention towards Blake.
"You alright?" he said offering his hand.
"Yeah, I'm fine, just a little disoriented by the explosion. Thank you by the way for the save," she said as she took his arm and got up. Roman looked at his soldiers who were easily defeated by this new-comer.
"Pathetic," he muttered as he avoided a soldier who was heading towards him. The thief then used his cane again to shoot fire dust bullets toward the monkey Faunus, but it was futile as Sun used his staff to shield himself by twirling it in a circular shape. Blake saw the opportunity, but she would need help from Shaun to do this.
"Shaun! Throw me!" Shaun nodded as he grabbed her hand and lifted her, then with one torque of his body, he let go of Blake as she was heading towards Roman.
"His mine!" she said towards Sun as she passed by. Blake using Gambol Shroud delivered some serious slashes towards Roman, but the thief easily parried her attacks and then he kicked her away. Just was about to deliver his attack, Sun jumped in and attacked the thief. He used his weapon's staff mode to attack him first then he transformed his weapon into nunchakus. Using his nunchakus, he attacked him from different angles and since his weapons were shotguns, he simultaneously fired them. The result was Roman being overwhelmed and eventually in a moment of distraction, Blake came in to deliver the final blow.
Roman, who was on the ground, observed his surroundings for any opportunities to attack them. He grinned when he looked at a container that was suspended in the air by a rope. He then shot at the cable and the container fell towards the two, but the container was suddenly sliced in half as they saw Shaun with a large scythe on his hands. Before saving them, Shaun was preoccupied with the remaining soldiers. It was no problem for the half Nephilim, using his heavy weapon, the dust hammer, he quickly got rid of them. He swung his hammer towards a lone soldier and the result was he was blown away and his body got hit by another soldier. Then he smashed his weapon toward the ground while using fire dust, the soldiers were blown away and some of them were on fire. He could say that buying this dust hammer was worth the lien he spent. After he finished the remaining soldier off, he heard gunshots and it brought him back to the present.
"Hah! As expected, the Grim Reaper huntsman saves the day," he said, Shaun could sense that the man in front of them was panicking.
"Surrender Roman, it's over," Shaun simply said while pointing his combined scythe toward the thief.
"Not an option, huntsman. I got some higher-ups that I needed to satisfy,"
"Who is it?"
"Well… that is classified information, huntsman," he smirked.
"Hey! You leave my friends alone!" a girl shouted as the three teens and the thief looked at the top of a building.
"Well-well if isn't my old nuisance Red. Hey is it already past your bedtime?" Roman said. Ruby Rose after hearing the explosion before quickly headed towards this location with Penny also following her. She was surprised she discovered that Blake and Shaun were there since they had been missing for the last two days, but Shaun only left her a message from her scroll, saying.
'I am with Blake don't worry she is safe. Just focus on calming down Ice Queen,'
Of course, she didn't listen and kept searching them and now she found them, and isn't that the Faunus they saw on the docks two days ago?
"Ruby, are those your friends?" Penny asked her.
"Stay here Penny," Ruby said to her. Roman was about to fire towards her, but Shaun teleported to him and then he pinned him down.
"Not going to let you hurt anybody else," the half Nephilim said.
"Tch, really bony masked? You think this is going to stop me?" he grinned, Shaun raised an eyebrow at that, but then his instincts warned him as he moved away from the thief to avoid a kick coming to him. Shaun quickly drew his gun and he shot the new arrival, he briefly observed the new person but then he heard a sound like glass shattering as Roman and this mysterious person disappeared.
"Where did they go?" Sun asked out loud.
"I am wondering about that myself…" the half Nephilim replied sighing as he detached his combined scythes.
"You guys alright?" he asked the two.
"Yeah, we're good," Sun said as Blake nodded at him. Still, White Fang soldiers were surrounding them.
"Damn it, these guys just kept coming," Sun commented as they regroup.
"Guys!" Ruby said as she came with them while on the way she was beating up soldiers. Soon she arrived beside them.
"Ru-Ruby!?" Blake was shocked to see her here.
"Blake! I finally found you!" if the situation was not them being surrounded by White Fang soldiers, she would hug her teammate. The little red then turned towards her scythe buddy.
"And Shaun! Your message was short! But I am glad I found you too," she said as Shaun chuckled.
"Sorry,"
"Hey guys! Sorry to interrupt your reunion, but the soldiers?!" Sun reminded them. As they were ready to fight, they were shocked at seeing one of the soldiers being attacked by floating swords. Shaun using his death sense saw the green coloured string that was connected to the swords belonged to the girl he met two days ago.
"It's that Penny?" he asked Ruby.
"Yeah, I don't know that she could do that," Ruby stared in awe. They watched as Penny descended towards them and attacked the soldiers with ease. One soldier was slashed with swords and another one was thrown at a container as a bunch of swords were piercing him. Then she used her swords to create a windmill as she threw it towards a group of soldiers, instantly taking them down.
"Wow! That is something else," Sun commented to her. Then the group heard three bullheads coming to their location and they were preparing for fire. Shaun quickly got into Sun, Blake, and Ruby, then he used his shadows to create a barrier to shield them from incoming fire. With Penny, she used her sword to defend herself from the incoming bullets. After that she went to go back and then with her swords, she brought them together. When the swords started to spin, it created an energy beam that she used to cut in half the two bullheads. The two destroyed bullheads fell towards the sea.
Shaun was surprised at the attack the girl just displayed it kind of reminded him of that one demon he encountered back then. She used the same powers as her, but instead of swords, the demon used giant boulders.
'Although to be honest swords are way cooler than boulders,' he thought amused as he saw Penny prevent the one bullhead that was carrying a container of dust from flying away.
"Wow… how is she doing that?" Ruby asked in awe.
Roman who was being helped by his partner quickly used the distraction to escape. He and his partner, a girl who had Neapolitan colors as her hair, a white cropped wide broad-tailed jacket with a pink interior, wore brown leather pants, and a pink parasol that hid a thin blade inside its tube. The two entered the bullhead that waited for them, Roman took his time to observe the events that had transpired before him.
"These kids just getting weirder, and the Grim Reaper Huntsman's arrival isn't accounted for," he said as he closed the door of the bullhead. Then the vehicle took off, and Shaun and Penny were about to chase it.
'He got away, but something tells me this will not be the last we see them,' Shaun thought as he took off his mask, he then looked at Penny as she put away her weapons and stored them inside a backpack.
'… Uncle Strife will probably want to see this,' he thought.
Minutes later, the group was now sitting on top of wooden boxes with Police coming to the area.
"This day was…" Sun said.
"Eventful? Surprising?" Shaun asked him.
"All of the above, I mean wow! You're that rumored huntsman man! Why didn't you tell me?" Sun said nudging the Half Nephilim.
"Yeah, I don't tell my name that easily to people," he said. He then looked at Blake who had a conflicted expression as she was thinking about something that bothered her.
"Blake? What's wrong?" Shaun asked, the question snapped out Blake from her head as she looked at him.
"Nothing," Shaun narrowed his eyes, he then took out his scroll and sent a message to the cat Faunus.
Blake heard a notification coming out from her scroll. As she checked who it was, she widened her eyes and looked at Shaun then she nodded at him as she put back her scroll.
"Hey, Shaun?"
"Yes, Ruby?"
"You owe me cookies, for making me search you and Blake for two days! And not telling us where you are," she said pouting. Shaun chuckled as he ruffled her hair.
"Ok-ok, how about I buy you that double chocolate chip cookies at the cafeteria after we arrive at Beacon, ok?"
"Yay! Thank you, Shaun," Ruby said. Yes, whenever Shaun asked a favor to the little red, he needed to buy cookies for her and yes, it was her idea. The group laughed at the antics, but they died down as two remaining people of Team RWBY arrived at the scene. Ruby quickly got up and approached Weiss to calm her down, saying things as if Blake could explain what happened she has cat ears, but the heiress didn't listen and approached Blake with narrowed eyes. Blake stood up and confronted the heiress, she knew she needed to explain what to do, but she felt scared.
She then remembered what Shaun said to her before, she then took a breath and let it out.
"Weiss, I wanted you to know that I am not associated with the White Fang. Back when—"
"Stop, did you have any idea how long we've been searching for you," he then looked at the half Nephilim, "And you, you should have told us where the two of you were," Shaun remained silent as he only watched the two of them.
"12 hours, that's how long we have been searching for you. That means I've had 12 hours to think about this and in that period, I have decided," Shaun and the other two girls were worried, Blake was tensed, this was it, would she accept her or not?
"I don't care,"
"You-you don't care?" Blake was surprised at the answer as she thought that the heiress wouldn't accept her again.
"You said you are not one of them anymore, right?"
"I-I haven't since—" Weiss then cut her out.
"Nope, I don't want to hear it. All I want to know is that the next time something this big comes up, you'll come to your teammates," Shaun was proud of the heiress for understanding Blake, but she was not done it seemed as if she looked at him too.
"And you Shaun, that also includes you, even if you are not in our team, if there is a problem you can count on our team to help," Weiss said.
"Alright then Ice Queen," Shaun chuckled which the others joined in.
"Of course, Weiss," Blake answered too as she wiped a tear.
"Yay! Team RWBY is back again!" Ruby shouted.
"I am still not quite sure how I feel about you," Weiss pointed to the monkey Faunus as Sun only gave her an awkward laugh. Then Ruby suddenly remembered about someone.
"Hey where's Penny?" she said out loud. Shaun used his Death sense, he looked at a far corner to see a car and the soul of Penny inside with another person he didn't recognize.
"She probably went home Ruby, we can see her again, you know," Shaun explained not telling her she got into a car.
Beacon, Somewhere on the rooftops
"So… what's bothering you?" Shaun asked his crush. After they returned to Beacon and Shaun bought the cookies that he promised for Ruby, he and Blake went to the rooftops as usual.
"Roman… he is still out there, and we still don't know what his planning with all of that dust," she said to him frustrated.
"I know but thinking about it now doesn't help you anything. For now, you should get some rest and reconcile with your teammates and catch up with class," he firmly said.
"You sounded like my father," she chuckled.
"I get that from my mother," he chuckled also. Blake smiled, she then went closer to Shaun as their shoulders were touching and leaned her head on her right shoulder.
"Thank you, Shaun. Before apologizing to Weiss and my team, I thought my future to become a huntress was tarnished…" She then looked at him with happiness.
"But I was wrong thinking like that… they accepted me again and now… my future to show that Faunus and Humans can live together in peace, can still be achieved… and that is thanks to you," she said. Shaun could hear his heart beating and his face felt burning from all the embarrassment he was feeling right now.
"Y-yeah, you're welcome," he said using his other hand to scratch his head in embarrassment. Blake giggled at his reaction, she felt pride at making the half-Nephilim embarrassed. Shaun then with his death sense, sensed three people behind the door leading towards the rooftop.
And instantly knew who they were.
"Want to join us, Ruby? Yang? Weiss?" he said out loud. Blake was startled as she stood up from the edge and looked at her teammates, now outside with them.
"Well-well, Blake you said that you were going to the cafeteria to get food? I don't think you were going to see our resident edgy huntsman?" Yang said teasingly.
"Yeah Blake, I was waiting for that juice, you know?" Ruby the n said with the same tone as her sister.
"Indeed Blake, you should know that you can just be honest with us now, if you wanted to see Shaun," Weiss, for the first time, teased her.
Blake was feeling a multitude of emotions, first embarrassment, second anger, then irritation. Then, she walked towards them with a simple smile.
"Ruby, Weiss, Yang…" the remaining team felt something dark from her teammate.
"Y-yes, B-Blake?" Ruby said as she swallowed her saliva. Blake then drew her weapon and unsheathed her blade.
"I am going to count to three, I suggest you three start running…"
"One," the three then started their run as dust clouds were left after they went. Shaun looked at the scene in amusement. His friends were something else entirely. Even if his supposed grandmother was out there… he would ensure that he would protect his friends.
Especially Blake.
He was cut out from his thoughts as he felt Blake's lips on his cheek, she then quickly pulled. Shaun looked at the smiling Blake with widened eyes, as she giggled.
"Goodnight Shaun," she said her red cheeks evident. Shaun was too late to say as Blake disappeared because of her semblance.
"Goodnight… Blake," he chuckled as he traced his cheek that was kissed by his crush.
'What an eventful day indeed…' he thought as he looked at the stars, smiling on this night.
