AN: I saw a post on Reddit that inspired this so all credit goes to them- whoever they may be!
Read and review :)
Chapter 1
I glance down at the device on my wrist.
5 minutes and 23 seconds remaining
Oh God. That's so soon. Why did I agree to this? There was an option to refuse, why didn't I refuse?!
My leg bounces up and down on the foot rest of the stool I'm sat on as my mind races.
What if I'm not in the right place? I've heard that the timer then resets and it could be years from now that our paths cross again. No, this is the place. I can feel it.
I glance around the bar, taking note of all the faces so I'll know who arrives when it's time.
3 minutes and 6 seconds remaining
My hands start shaking around the empty glass in my hand and I signal the bartender for another one. She takes my order with a smile.
"You waiting for someone?"
"Yeah." I laugh nervously, lifting my wrist in response.
She glances at the device and smiles. "Good luck with that. I met mine 3 months ago. Trust me, it'll all go smoother than you think."
As she walks off to get my drink I tell myself to stop panicking.
1 minute and 49 seconds remaining
I close my eyes and take a few deep breaths before simply staring at the wall in front of me, refusing to look at my wrist.
When the device gives off a small vibration, signalling that the time has ticked down to zero, it makes me jump slightly. My heart races as I look around the room again, frowning when all I see are the same faces as before.
Wait.
No.
No please don't let me be in the wrong place.
I glance down at the device and watch the words 'Congratulations! You've just met your soulmate!' scroll across the screen.
Did I get a defective one? Did I just wait almost a year to find out this stupid thing doesn't even work?!
"Here's your drink. Sorry for the wait."
"Thanks." I respond, not bothering to look up.
I remove the device from my wrist and place it back on, hoping to reset it somehow but it still shows the same message.
This has got to be some kind of joke.
I huff and look up again, scanning the room once more to make sure I didn't miss someone.
"Are you okay?" A voice asks from behind the bar.
"Yeah, just a little confused because…"
I stop in the middle of my sentence as I meet the eyes of the bartender.
"Because…?" She prompts.
"You're a different bartender." I state.
"You're confused because I'm a different bartender?" She laughs. "Well to ease your confusion, we just had a shift change. Michelle told me your order before she left."
"No that's not why I'm confused I… wait. You served me my drink?"
"Yes. Are you sure you're okay?"
I smile lights up on my face. This is it. This is her.
"Yeah I'm good I…"
Again I trail off as I notice something. Her sleeves are rolled up to her elbows and I can clearly see her wrists.
She doesn't have a device.
I just met my soulmate and she doesn't even know who I am.
AN: So I wasn't planning on having two stories on the go at once but here we are. Sorry it's really short and sorry in advance because it'll probably be a long wait before the next chapter!
