Air jetted up Jack's nose like water from a pool, he had expected his death to be more painful. Though everything still felt physical, in fact he could feel like the sun's light was hitting his skin. He opened his eyes slightly so as not to get too much light into his eyes. The bright yellow shine hit his eye causing him to immediately cover them with his left hand.
Yep, that is the sun for sure! Jack used his right hand to lift himself from his laid position and into a sitting one. The air was much cleaner than New York's smog infested air, so cleaner in fact that it felt like he was losing his breath. This made Jack wonder… Where am I? The sound of wing beats thundered in the sky sounding extremely heavy. I got to hide! He turned himself over belly flat on the ground and began crawling. As fast as he could he began crawling towards anything that he felt could conceal him. He opened his eyes gradually as he continued on, soon enough he could open them wide. Jack looked up hoping to at least see trees but what he got was far larger than that.
Gigantic trees that look like they could reach the height of redwoods were everywhere. The trees themselves looked like pine or Christmas trees though he couldn't tell as the last time he made that mistake he muted out the Child of Demeter that lambasted him about it. As the wingbeats got closer and closer, Jack pushed himself up and started sprinting. He looked from tree to tree trying to find one that could conceal him best.
Come on, come on! That was when his eyes darted to one on the left, the base of the tree were slightly revealing roots, roots that were lifted from the ground. Perfect! He changed his direction towards it as the sounds of the wing beats stopped and multiple heavy thumps began shaking the ground. The shaking was comparable to an Earthquake… or when one of those world ending scenarios came up. He proceeded to enact a slide that would've impressed some baseball players and slid underneath the tree.
Jack turned his gaze outside, wondering what the threat could be from the sounds of those wing beats.
It's not one of the small monsters, I'm guessing the large ones. From what he could tell the monsters had red and orange scales, large wings, horns, and smoke leaking out of their noses. Oh my Gods! Multiple dragons, I can't fight them. Alright think, maybe if I wait those dragons will leave? Yeah, that's a good plan. He sat down as roars began erupting into the air, leaking into his hiding place. The roaring seemed to begin to drone on and on as if they were talking or something.
After a while the sound of roaring began to sound harmonious with it almost becoming ear breaking. It felt like hours had passed as he continued sitting underneath the tree. That was when the sound of roaring suddenly stopped. Jack unfurled himself from his sitting position and looked through the opening of the tree.
Did they leave yet? What he saw destroyed his hopes even more as bulkier brown dragons and yellow dragons with scorpion tails came down to where the red dragons were. You gotta be kidding me! The brown dragon began roaring to other red and orange dragons before flying off. Whatever the brown one roared had the others follow entail. Jack slumped back down underneath the tree, a sigh of relief flowed from mouth.
The words slipped from his mouth as if they had a mind of their own, "Thank Gods!" He climbed from underneath the tree and back into the open. The sun began to sink like a boat over the horizon, night was coming. Jack began analyzing his environment, he had hoped to find a path or something but to his horror he faced a wide expanse of desert. He felt rage building up, ready to burst.
YOU GOT TO BE FU- Before he could finish the thought he felt a sharp pain causing him to fall forward into the ground. Jack quickly rolled and looked towards what had attacked him. Standing there was a single weapon-headed monster that he had previously seen, two viking ish zombies, and a small gryphon.
"What the-" Before Jack could finish the weapon-headed monster step forward. The sword head glinting off light.
"Our master wants your head served to him!" The weapon-headed monster said. The odds weren't in his favor in this, he was outnumbered, and had no weapon. The only thought that came to him was.
Run! Jack turned and began running through the desert, from behind he could hear the swing coming in, coming in fast! He ducked and turned, grabbing the zombie's sword arm. The other zombie advanced swinging their sword. Jack quickly pulled the arm of the one he was holding into the other's attack, cutting the arm clean off. He pulled the zombie's arm off the handle and slashed at the armed zombie's torso. The zombie faltered, a deep cut across the chest that should've destroyed it. The zombie however kept on coming for him charging at him, the weapon-headed monster also joined in trying to slash Jack from above with their head. As he tried to block the next attack something barrelled into him from his right.
He turned and saw the gryphon beginning to viciously claw at him, he tried to block it but the claws kept cutting and cutting. That was when he heard those dragon wing beats again.
Gods sake this just keeps getting worse! The gryphon looked up before jumping away and trying to fly off. Flames erupted out above him catching the monster mid-flight, the heat scorching his skin and his breathing became harder. The other monsters tried coming closer before they too got eradicated. When the flames died down there was nothing left but piles of ash. Jack's breathing became normal again, the cool air of the night cooling his skin. He took a deep breath and turned to face the dragon.
