this is a story about Caitlyn and Vi. it doesn't follow any timeline, although Arcane was a bit of inspiration. It's just a fun story. please feel free to leave notes. I'll get to the next chapter as soon as possible.
Chapter 1
As Caitlyn got ready for the day, she found herself even more eager than usual to arrive at the office early. Today was a special day. New recruits. As hextech was growing, so was the city. Meaning more and more new people were making their way to piltover. Whether it be to visit or to hopefully make a new life for themselves. For Caitlyn, this meant more crime, which required more officers.
Not everyone was happy about having new recruits, Vi especially. Although she was the only one willing to actually voice it allowed. New recruits meant a new partner for her. Someone she would have to look after and teach the ways of the police force. And in Caitlyn's oh so lovingly ways "you're to be a good example and show them what it means to be piltovers finest", while taking extra time looking at Vi hoping this set in for her a little more. Vi tended to forget sometimes that she was now an enforcer for piltover and not a Zaunite criminal like she used to be.
Caitlyn was very fond of Vi. Even so that she considered her a friend. It's not something she could say about many of the people she knew. She was always on good standings with most, but never so much that she felt she could actually be herself. Something she wasn't even sure she knew. She always had to hold herself to a higher standard because of where she came from. Her mother is a very well-known council member, and her father is a retired judge. They both had higher expectations for their daughter. Not a nobody police officer as her mother would so kindly say. She was sure she only made sheriff because her mother had pulled a few strings, but that wasn't going to stop her from being the best sheriff this town had to offer. Her father was a bit kinder and always supported her, following her dreams. Her father knew deep down how hard it was going to be for Caitlyn, being the daughter of his wife. He loved his wife but knew she lacked certain qualities when it came to being more empathetic or soft. He made sure to do what he could to make up for it, though. He often praised Caitlyn, and made sure she knew she was loved no matter what.
Caitlyn always assumed her closeness to vi was due to the fact that Vi never made her feel like she had to act a certain way due to her last name. Or even the fact that she was sheriff. Although Caitlyn wished for a bit more respect at times. Vi always made Caitlyn feel at ease. She allowed her to let her guard down occasionally, which took indescribable amounts of weights off Caitlyn's shoulders. Caitlyn had never told Vi what she actually meant to her. This is because Caitlyn herself couldn't admit what Vi meant to her. She often found herself when alone thinking of Vi, what she might be doing in her free time, what she liked to eat, and so forth. But the second she noticed what she doing she would quickly snap herself back to reality, angered that she allowed herself to pine or even think that she ever could mean more to Vi than just her boss.
Vi was often leaving working announcing her plans to visit the local bar. Mainly because the bar owner would give Vi a free drink here and there for helping to save his bar from would be thieves. Caitlyn often heard the idle chat in the bullpen the next morning. more often then not, many high fives to Vi for the amazing beauty she was able to bring home with her that night. Caitlyn often found herself slightly jealous. She convinced herself it was because she wished she had the confidence Vi had to hook up with total strangers, and not that she wished to know what it was like to be brought home by Vi herself. Caitlyn lacked when it came to companionship. Never having a real relationship. She always felt she came off to strong or intimidating especially with her parents background. She had been on many dates when she was younger. always set up by her mother. she found them all to be awfully dull and lacking a certain something, though she could never place just what that was. Ever since she moved out on her own a year ago, she avoided any sort of topic that had to due with proper suiters and children with her mother. This became easier and easier, as her mother refused to visit her. Her small 2 bedroom apartment although most would find very nice and neatly furnished, was just not in the right part of town for her mother.
Caitlyn came into the precinct. She was the first one there as usual. The main bullpen is a bit more crowded with new desks filling in the empty spaces. Caitlyn's privet office just in the corner. It's small but big enough for a nice desk, a bookshelf, and some filling cabinets. Caitlyn made her way to her office, unloading her bag, her rifle, and removing her light jacket. Caitlyn normally wore a slim fitting blouse with a black skirt and either nice heels or black knee-high boots with black tights. Today, though, she dressed in her official piltover sheriff uniform. It was a very classy uniform it was. A long white button-up shirt under a dark navy vest lined in gold trim that fit tight enough to push up her already large breast's. Long black trousers that fit her like a glove. Long black elegant combat boots that stopped just below the knee. To finish the uniform off, an elegant navy top hat.
As Caitlyn finished up doing a bit of paperwork from the day before, some of her officers began to trickle in. Caitlyn watched as they all made their way to their desks, all preparing for what the new day had to offer. Her desk was facing out, with Vi's desk in her direct line of sight. Vi was often late, but Caitlyn made sure to let her know she needed her on time today. The minutes passing by, getting ever so closer to 7:30 with still no Vi. Caitlyn is feeling disappointed that Vi would do this to her today. Pushing herself back to stand up to greet the office and give her speech about how she wanted things to go today. She grabbed some papers off her desk and stepped out the door, just to run right into Vi.
"Sorry boss".
Vi exclaimed as she was reaching for Caitlyn, grabbing her with one hand behind Caits waist , the other under Caits arm. Pulling Caitlyn close to her to keep her from falling to the ground. Caitlyn instinctively grabbed Vi around the neck, not realizing their closeness until Vi
"whoa cupcake, if I thought all it took to get you this close was to run into you, I would have done it sooner"
Vi often made flirtatious jokes at Caitlyn. But she never took it serious knowing that Vi had a different kind of humor, and probably flirted with most of the women she knew.
Caitlyn immediately pulled away, trying to hide the smile forming on her face and the pink cheeks forming as she could feel herself staring to blush. She bent down to pick up her dropped papers
"glad you're finally on time today Vi. You should try it more often."
"If I get to see that smile again, then you got yourself a deal."
Caitlyn's cheeks began to turn a little brighter. How does this girl do this to her, she thought. But quickly regained her composure and got back to her original task. She gathered all the officers together. Went over the tasks for the day and let them know that their new partners would be heading over after lunch.
"any questions"?
A hand raised in the back.
"Yes officer Jackson. "
A tall, skinny but toned man took a couple of steps foreword.
"do we know who our partners are, or will we be picking them ourselves?"
"Your partners have all been assigned to you through a special computer system."
Everyone looked very confused at these words Caitlyn just said.
"one of our great computer science engineers has created an algorithm that will partner you each with a new recruit. It takes your overall record here at the precinct, arrests, time on the force, your aptitude for getting tasks done, and more, much, much more. It will assign you with a new recruit that best fits both your strengths and weaknesses".
"This sounds like a real losing experiment". An officer whispers under their breath, drawing a few quiet laughs from others close by.
"I expect nothing but the best from each of you. Is that clear? "
"yes sheriff" was said in unison
